First Shoe Drops as MSNBC Axes Norville; Keith Next?

OlbyPal Brian Stelter has a copy of MSNBC President Rick Kaplan's email formally announcing Deborah Norville's long expected departure from MSNBC.

As the new year approaches at MSNBC, the promising Scarborough Country in the hands of fill-in Pat Buchanan, Joe is still out on seemingly permanent medical leave, Norville's much-ballyhooed return to the NBC family was an even bigger failure than her first go around as the Wally Pipp of NBC's Today Show, replacing Jane Pauley and half of MNSBC's evening schedule is now up for grabs.

This just can't be good news for Keith Olbermann's tenure as "news" anchor. What Norville replacement is going to be willing to deal with the troubled Countdown and their .3, and falling, ratings as a lead-in?

At this point MSNBC has pretty much tried everything and failed. There last best hope may be to bring in the gals from Naked News before GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt shuts the entire mess down.

I wouldn't be too worried about Olbermann. We are talking about the guy who quit a show because... he didn't want to talk about how Clinton tried to suborn perjury by having his secretary, Betty Curry, come in on a weekend so he could coach her in a false memory ("Monica and I were never alone, right?") before she testified before the Grand Jury.... errr... I mean Olbermann left because he didn't want to talk about Clinton's private life...

And he was still rehired.

I'm sure Olbermann has won some sort of Profile In Courage award in the hearts of his fellow media folks everywhere...

Deb is a great loss, but she didn't do her job well. She should have read the news while frottaging a stripper pole. Hot chicks are dumb, as evidenced by her attempt to do news!

We're talking about tv news here, my friend. No one is suggesting that "hot chicks are dumb" and that's certainly not the mindset of tv producers. No, theirs is far worse....it's "who cares if she's dumb or smart as long as she's hot".
