Don Imus is worried that his coming move from Astoria to MSNBC's Secaucus, NJ studio complex will adversely affect his ratings on radio, as the Online Edition of the NY Post reported yesterday.
Imus told listeners yesterday: "They think the ratings are going to be better because we're there [in Secaucus], but from essentially the same set that Keith Olbermann and those other people do their programs from."
The Imus show simulcasts on WFAN (660 AM) radio and on MS-NBC weekday mornings. He boasted that he averaged 361,000 MS-NBC viewers last week, which was a bit higher than the 353,000 who watched Olbermann's prime-time show. He described MSNBC's programming as "horrible".
Imus fears that having more NBC television news personalities on his show may not appeal to his broader radio listenership---estimated at 3 million. But since most of the interviews that Imus books now are NBC News personalities, one may surmise that his fear is the mere proximity to the ratings losers themselves. Perhaps that's why he singled out Olbermann by name, as Countdown's ratings are the lowest.
This makes perfect sense if you know Imus.
He's the quintessential fair-weather-friend.
The best line is Imus's last statement:
Imus said, "because they have some programming that's horrible."
Wonder who he was talking about? He only metioned one MSNBC personality (whoops, I mean anchor) by name in the article.
If Imus has KO on his ratings will go down. On the other hand, I would love to see Imus take KO apart.
Napa,
Actually, Imus has voiced his admiration for Keith and his show many times.
It's only now that the show seems to be in trouble that Imus is exhibiting his usual allergic reaction to failure.
interesting, well you can tell I hardly ever watch him, not up that early
