It was a huge story, in the US and internationally. Viewers flocked to their sets to watch the dawn of democracy in Iraq, but they didn't exactly flock to Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Olby's audience hasn't exactly been thriving lately, but according to the numbers reported by TVNewser, cable news viewers considered Keith's coverage of the Iraq elections a must-miss:
The O'Reilly Factor: 2,209,000 viewers
Countdown with Keith Olbermann: 193,000 viewers
The coverage brought a huge influx of viewers on CNN and especially Fox, but, bucking the trend, Olby's audience actually went down, sinking below the 200,000 mark. To make the humiliation complete, KO's nemesis Mr Bill O'Reilly beat Olby's ratings by nearly 12-to-1.
Clearly OlbermannWatch is having an impact. No doubt Keith's cheap shots at successful broadcasters will now become increasingly frequent and even more frenzied and desperate. And we will continue to chronicle his sour calumnies and jaundiced reporting.
That is to funny!!!!! At what point do you have to concede his viewers are actually people who fell asleep during Hardball and never turned the tv off?
There is a point at which the numbers are actually within the margin of error and may actually be zero...Keith seems on target for McEnroe territory.
Frankly, it's the disconnect that's going to kill Countdown.
I mean, here you have a show that juxtaposes President Bush's face with the head of a groundhog and then breaks for a "Right Now" news spot showing Iraqis crying for joy and holding up their ink-stained fingers.
I know Olbermann's crew is laughing their butts off at his antics. But on their day off, they're tuned to The Daily Show, not MSNBC/Countdown...
