On Thursday's Hour of Spin, Keith had to break from his prepared text because Judith Miller was released from the pokey. After chatting that up with Pete Williams, Olby decided it was time to call in one of his Rogue's Gallery to get things back on track. So Richard Wolffe of Newsweek showed up to sing from KO's sheet music, touting the great achievements of Joe Wilson as if he had never been caught in his own lies and discredited. Wolffe also referred to the "16 false words" in the State of the Union speech, an exercise in irony since the words in question weren't false, and therefore Wolffe's words are. No challenge by Olby of course; no tough questions permitted for members of the Olbermann echo chamber.
In his nightly FEMA-bashing statement, Olby noted:
For the smallest rural areas in SouthEast Texas, the situation has been worse. Some officials say they saw relief convoys passing them by on the way to other localities.
No kidding. Might that possibly be because in a crisis, you bypass smaller communities to get to the major population centers first? Otherwise you might never make it to those centers. Of course, suppose FEMA had taken the opposite tack, and sent its relief to towns of 8,000 people while leaving the large cities and urban centers waiting? Any guesses as to how Olby would have reacted to that?
Perhaps because of all the breathless reporting on Judith Miller's prison break, Olby didn't get around to the "worst person in the world". Either that, or he didn't have time to check out the George Soros websites before the Hour of Spin aired.
As usual, I tried to watch Olby -- I really tried. As soon as I see his face I reflexively turn the channel. I just can't help it. I do want to lend Mr. Dollar moral support, but it is awfully tough.
Surprising that Olby didn't get around to the "worst person in the world." I would have guessed that he would jump on the chance to officially smear "Scooter" Libby. After all, the Sootmeister only released Judith Miller from confidentiality obligations BEFORE she went to the joint, and a SECOND TIME when she called him in tears after a little time in the pokey!
The reason high-and-mighty Judith squealed was a healthy dose of jail time -- nothing more, nothing less. She decided that she couldn't wait out the prosecutor. She's a gutless wonder.
Why is the MSM pretending that this "new" release is what made the difference? Hmmmm. . . I wonder. Could it be they want to save face while their reporter squeals to a Grand Jury?
Funny, the last reporter (Journalist Matt Cooper of "Slime" magazine) also required two releases (from Karl Rove) to testify -- one before the threat of jail time, and one after! Another gutless wimp. How many releases do these people need? Nice try guys, but you are pathetic backstabbers and everybody knows it. Good luck getting "tips" in the future!
One other point about Judith Miller --
She asked for a "personal" waiver from Libby, and told the Prosecutor she would only talk about him. So who else did Judith talk to? Who is she protecting?
This whole thing stinks. Amazing how Olby has a nose for every fictional cover-up imaginable, but misses the real cover-up right in front of his face.
"So who else did Judith talk to? Who is she protecting?"
Another journalist/s. Duh!
Not necessarily C. Could be protecting NY Times Op- ed "columnist" Joe Wilson, or a politician she likes. Clearly she has stuff to hide.
What do you expect from a "reporter" who likes to tip off Muslim organizations before the cops can search their offices? Remember this:
"U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, who is prosecuting the case, is also seeking the telephone records of Miller and fellow Times reporter Philip Shenon in a separate investigation of a leak about a planned FBI raid on the Global Relief Foundation, an Islamic charity suspected of funding terrorism."

Hadn't heard about that other leak investigation.
THAT'S certainly not widely reported...
Your remark about Wilson is interesting too. This past week Olbermann mentioned something about Miller being a reporter who was sympathetic to the Iraq War AND who went to jail in order to protect a WH source. Olby conspiracy alert!
I'd seen that characterization on lefty blog sites like Eschaton, but never from someone in the media. They generally focus on the sacrament of protecting a source aspect of the matter.
Anyway, interesting post, Krazy.
Miller and the NY Times are despicable. Turns out that Miller's old lawyer Floyd Abrams had tried to get Fitzgerald (the prosecutor) to allow Miller to testify about Scooter Libby only ONE YEAR AGO. The prosecutor said no and Miller went to jail to protect her OTHER SOURCES. Of course, her lawyers all blame Libby for her jail time, when she was protecting these other sources all along. I sure don't trust anything from the Sulzberger crew. Quite frankly, Sulzberger reminds me of "Junior" Gotti. His operation is a racket, and he is too dumb to hide that fact. For more, see this:

That's our media that we know and love!
NBC's Tim Russert and Tom Brokaw make the same sort of deal with Fitzgerald that Robert Novak made and there's not a peep. Miller is willing to sell out a WH source she spoke with about Plame from jump street but goes to jail to protect "other" sources. Why her lawyer and the NYT hit the talk shows blaming the WH.
Now she has a million dollar book deal.
I'm waiting for the movie with Julia Roberts as Miller, George Clooney as Pinch Schultzberger, Jack Nicholson as Dick Cheney, and Scooter Libby to be played by the guy who did Newman on Seinfeld.
