We're dealing with family matters for much of this week, so sometimes (like tonight) our reports will be abbreviated. Not that there will be anything unpredictable from Olby and Company; these reports pretty much write themselves. Please use the comments to flesh out these brief outlines and fully develop the latest outrages from the Hour of Spin.
Tuesday night's focus: The Great Leak Case. Blather with Howard Fineman, the shape-shifter of pundits, exploring all the different ways Libby, and especially Dick Cheney, could maybe, possibly, be indicted. Typical Olbermann: bring on yet again the discredited, scandal-ridden Air America hack Al Franken. And not in the worthless final segment, but right after the first commercial break. We hit fast forward whenever that repellent sissy threatens to appear on our orthicon tube.
What Republicans made "worst persons in the world" tonight? Bill Frist. What Democrats or liberals made the list? Yeah, right. Only on Bizarro Planet.
Johnny,
Thanks for taking time away from your family to give us a summary of Olbermannworld.
There is a piece on last night's Countdown on Newsbusters.com. (Thanks Krazy for hooking me up with that site.) Unfortunately, I missed last night's installment but at Newsbusters they had a transcript of the festivities.
This has got to be exhibit A for anyone who argues that Olbermann MUST come with a warning label. Everyone knows Tucker Carlson is conservative. They know Scarborough was a Republican congressman. Chris Matthews was long a liberal columnist. But the trusting soul who happened upon Countdown would have no idea they were about to encounter a leftist in the Michael Moore tradition. Olbermann describes himself as being "non-political". Be on guard, oh public. This is lie from the pit of hell, brothers and sisters....
Olbermann's guest was Al Franken. He was on, Olbermann expressly stated, to do a bit of "I told you so.":
Keith Olbermann: "'When I despair,' said the pacifist and revolutionary Mahatma Gandhi, 'I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and, for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall.' Think of it: Always. Our number two story in the Countdown, perhaps in the last two years, those who have opposed the war in Iraq or the current administration or both have fallen back on Gandhi's words. Well, his, or those of my next guest: Al Franken. Consider: The Vice President and former CIA director now implicated in the CIA leak investigation, Scooter Libby and Karl Rove may be on the eve of indictment or resignation or both, and there's a Tom DeLay mugshot and a Bill Frist SEC investigation. Now, here to tell us 'I told you so,' is the author of a book officially on sale for the first time, by remarkable coincidence, just today, The Truth (with Jokes) by Al Franken. Good evening, Al. Thanks for coming on."'
Yes, Olbermann just likened the Bush Administration to murderers and tyrannts. Yeah, the same guy who calls O'Reilly a kook... Bet you didn't know too that opponents of the war and of the Bush Administration are the purveyors of "truth and of love." Yes, folks, Cindy Sheehan and Al Franken have been Ghandi-like in their opposition to Bush tyranny.
That the people who DID suffer under a dictator, just ratified their own Constitution... is meaningless to Olbermann. Just a fading glimmer of light in a dark sky. That the circumstances of Tom Delay's indictment are coming out, starting with the jury foreman admitting he had decided to vote for an indictment BEFORE he even heard the evidence...or many questions about whether the indictment will be thrown out... are details that are of no concern whatsoever. That at airtime, NO one in the Bush Administation had been indicted, and that Olbermann has no idea what charges might be brought, nor if any charges to come will be about a conspiracy to hurt a CIA operative in order to get at her husband-- Olbermann's own nightly narrative. That Olbermann has no definitive information that Cheney is a figure of interest, why let that make you hesitate...
None of these details matter as they would if it were Bill Clinton, or Sandy Berger, or John Kerry. Crap has been throw at the folks in power, we don't like them, so let's assume the worst is true and lets get a prominent liberal on to gloat.
Olbermann is not non-political anymore than he's a mere liberal. He's a leftist. And by golly, he's going to have to wear that label, publicly someday. Just as Robert Novak or Tucker Carlson wear their conservative ones.
We're going to make that happen.
