Do you know people whose sense of self-importance is so overbearing that, no matter what, they always have to get the last word in everything? Even if they're just saying the same thing, over and over? If you don't, you know one now.
John Gibson made an off-hand comment on his radio show yesterday about the propriety of NBC having a primetime newscast that seeks to name the "worst person in the world" every night. When TVNewser reported those comments today, Keith Olbermann, like Pavlov's dog, immediately reacted. He fired off an email, eagerly repeating the fallacious drivel he used to attack Gibson in the first place. Plus he took the opportunity to up the smear ante, pompously accusing his "friend" Gibson of "hatred and bigotry".
What a classless clown.
That's what Olbermann calls "religious bigotry and hatred"? Not stopping people from practicing their religion. Not refusing to hire them if they do. Not trying to put them in jail or blow them up. Not persecuting them any way.
No. You're a religious bigot if you believe that your faith is the one true one. Generally, like the holy book of your religion stipulates.
Olbermann isn't the worst person in the world, but he's certainly one of the most idiotic.
Update: 12:47pm: Olbermann responds via e-mail: "About big ratings, as they say, 800 billion flies can't be wrong."
What a perfect a**hole. Nice stuff to say about 'potential' audience members. Guess even he's given up that dream.
Meltdown with Keith Olbermann. Keith must really be feeling the pressure. I am sure the GE execs who were watching O'Reilly didn't appreciate learning their 8 PM slot gets beaten regularly by a 4 AM repeat. I would love to see advertising rates for the 4 AM show versus Keith's. My favorite Keith memory is of his delusional, quixotic quest to find voter fraud in Ohio. He is so detached from reality that the Bush win brought him to an almost hallucinogenic state where fantasy seemed reality and the reality a personal nightmare for him. That was him at his best---unhinged and under a narcisstic illusion that his reporting would make him the Carl Bernstein of the 21st Century. Does Keith still believe there was a fraud or has he ever on air admitted he got completely duped by a bunch of unstable lunatics?
Keith is truly a useful idiot for the Left. He is an utter embarassment to all GE employees.

Well, Bill Gates finally figured out that his investment in MSLSD was a stinker. I guess the write-off of millions was too much to take. Now NBC Universal gets full control of the channel that brings us news from the minds of petulant children of the '60s (Matthews) and their wannabe breatheren (Blabbermann). Here is a little quote from the news item in Variety regarding Microsoft's long-overdue bailout:
[QUOTE]NBC U takes controlling stake in MSNBC
Deal, allows conglom to take full control within 2 years
By MICHAEL LEARMONTH
HOLLYWOOD -- After years of losses and hundreds of millions invested, Microsoft laid the groundwork to exit the cable news business by selling a controlling stake in 24-hour news channel MSNBC to NBC Universal.
The deal raised NBC Uni's stake to 82%, giving it complete management control of the cabler and allowing it the option to buy out 100% of Microsoft's stake within two years. The deal does not affect the status of web site MSNBC.com, which will remain a 50-50 joint venture.[QUOTE]
If numbers don't correspond to anything...guess Keith can quit reporting on polls.
Irish,
During the Ohio voter fraud canard, Keith defended himself from the charge of obsessively beating a dead horse, by saying he had always been interested in voter reform.
Unfortunately, aside for pushing the theory that Ohio officias were corrupt, Keith had no interest in any other voter fraud stories in the country.
Not even when hundreds are votes were discovered in Washington State. Course they did help the Democratic candidate...
The thing about the worst person list it's used too much on pushing KO own agenda which is why people like O'Reilly, Frist and Coulter always win. There was an Air America host who advocated violence against Republicans and I'm not surprised KO or the media didn't pick up that story like it did the Bill Bennett one.
Eddy,
Well it is Olbermann's show so he can use this particular segment to go after professional and ideological enemies and he does.
I think the entire segment is just 'the gift that keeps on giving' to his critics. It's exhibit A of Olbermann's relentless and overt partisanship and of his spite.
Long may Countdown's "Worst Person In The World" segment be the window into Olbermann's ill-will.
do you people have a life? is the only thing you do is watch a tv show you all admit to each other suck and then comment on it? if all of you hate the show so much, why don't ya just stop watching. i'm sure olbermann won't mind. here's a suggestion, when 8 PM comes around, WATCH ANOTHER SHOW.
maybe all of you need to walk 5 steps outside your front door and breath some fresh air for the first time in a year.
the jealously everyone here has for olbermann is apparent...
Do we have a life? Sure, but the same could be said about you "Jane Doe." Do you have anything better to do then tell people on some blog to watch another show? As for being jelous for Kieth well you got that right.... geez I wish I had a low rated show on MSNBC that gets lower ratings then a 4 AM replay of O'Reilly.
Jane writes: "here's a suggestion, when 8 PM comes around, WATCH ANOTHER SHOW."
Just like the rest of the country...
Keith needs a new staff.
I had thought that the reason Olbermann messed up so many quotes, got so many easily ascertainable things wrong, etc. was because of ideological tunnel vision.
From "The Best of Oddball" last night, I can see that's wrong. It wouldn't matter if the team was completely apolitical, they'd screw it up.
One of the admirable things about Countdown is Olbermann's comedic timing. How is that these guys completely squashed that by putting on a loud, confusing, frenetically paced show, that just begged you to scream "make it stop!"
I am jealous of Olby! I desperately want to be like him. Sometimes, I sit in my bathroom and yell the names of the "worst people in the world" into the faucet just like Keith. Then I make up news stories using mad libs pads and read them as fact while staring into the void just like Keith does. I have no viewers. . . .wait -- that makes me just like Keith too! I have attained my dream of being just like Keith!
K for K,
Now all you need to do is hire Frankenstein's tailor.
I absolutely *love* this stuff. You people can't take any of your own medicine! It reminds me of the dumb bullies in elementary school.
I get a real hoot out of how you seem to believe that the true measure of the worth of all this stuff is ratings and advertising dollars. God save us all!
I don't condone Olbermann's antics at all. He's put himself in the same category as the rest of you with his personal attacks and slanders. But, I think it's great to see how he's got all your panties in a bunch, acting like little schoolgirls!
Anyway, good to see you folks continue to focus on the issues. Keep up the good work!
Dear Bob,
Ummm...here's a clue.... all the proclaimations in the world about your being a non-Olbermann fan, are belied by your action of specifically going to an anti-Olbermann site in order to insult commenters and tell them they're wasting their time.
Now go tell anyone else as silly and dishonest as you.
Oh No! Bob, could it be? Could I be a "worst person in the world?" Perhaps you could tell me, or jot an e-mail off to your pal Olby for panel consensus?
As far as "You people can't take any of your own medicine!" I am interested in understanding what that medicine is? As far as I can tell, this site is devoted to pointing out the paranoid ravings of a Democrat hit man. What in God's name are you blabbering about Bob?
I heard the clip. Gibson called religeons not his own "wrong". Might have been a poor choice of words, but he did say he. Olbermann, who may be overreacting, is not incorrect in the facts.
No, Mike.
Gibson was replying to a point made by Parshall.
Gibson called it a theological point that was likely over his head.
Here's words with my capitalizatons and brackets:
**** "IF" **** you figure that ..... and **** "IF"***** somebody is going to be -- have to answer for following the wrong religion, they're not going to have to answer to me [nor Parshall, nor the Christian majority] We know who they're going to have to answer to. [Only God]
Here's the transcript:
PARSHALL: And number two, I have to tell you, I don't know when they held this election and decided that tolerance was a transcendent value. I serve a god who, with a finger of fire, wrote, he will have no other gods before him. And he doesn't tolerate sin, which is why he sent his son to the cross, but all of a sudden now, we jump up and down and celebrate the idea of tolerance. I think tolerance means accommodation, but it doesn't necessarily mean acquiescence or wholehearted acceptance.
GIBSON: No, no, no. If you figure that -- listen, we get a little theological here, and it's probably a bit over my head, but I would think if somebody is going to be -- have to answer for following the wrong religion, they're not going to have to answer to me. We know who they're going to have to answer to.
PARSHALL: Right.
GIBSON: And that's fine. Let 'em. But in the meantime, as long as they're civil and behave, we tolerate the presence of other religions around us without causing trouble, and I think most Americans are fine with that tradition.

Well, Bobby, let me set you straight. The "value" of a TV show to the consumer is the entertainment it provides. Therefore, crappy ratings imply that a show is not entertaining to the masses, which does not mean it is by definition a bad show. Olby's ratings are a result of his show being bad, however. Stop me if I am going too fast for you.
The value of a show to a company (in this case, MSLSD) and to its advertisers is REVENUE. If you look in the DNC / Socialist handbook you were given at your last protest march, you'll see the definition of revenue: "Ill-gotten capitalist profit units taken from the poor by conglomerates for use by oligarchs and the bourgeoisie." Without revenue, MSLSD is unable to pay bloated gasbags like Matthews and Olby, at which point your socialist "talent" would likely bail on the network. (Actually, Olby might stay on for free anyway, but he is a lunatic.) Additionally, MSLSD would be unable to send crazed flying reporter-monkeys throughout the United States of Oz in search of the evil Bush cabinet members.
So, what the Hell was your point? This may be too much for you. Here is something simpler. Most comments about Olby result from the following:
1. Disdain for Olby's lies
2. Annoyance at his bias
3. Astonishment at his lack of class
4. Genuine enjoyment of his lack of ratings
K of K,
I've viewed Olbermann as an annoyance and a clown, but I'm seeing him in a whole new light.
Here's a guy who has charged someone he describes as having been a "friend", with having the mentality of killers/ Olbermann has called for Gibson to be barred from the airwaves.
He's attributed doctrinal views to Gibson, which Gibson denies he holds, and then argued that Gibson should be fired for these views. And this while arguing that it's intolerant to make judgements as to the validity of a particular religion!
Olbermann isn't a clown or an annoyance. He's a sick bastard and a menace.
Oh, goodness, Johnny! Someone just sent me a link to where you quote me on your site.
I'm flattered and anxious at the same time! :D
Why shouldn't I? You're a better writer and a more insightful thinker than I am. My readers deserve the best.
And if you think I'm buttering you up to try to convince you (again!) to write for OlbermannWatch, well, you're right again.
Not at all true, Johnny, and we both know it.
But thanks for the kind words and all your work on exposing this hideous man who I now regard as an utter fiend.
Hey C,
Olby probably has a paranoid personality disorder with a narcissistic chaser. His Evil Republican parents undoubtedly wanted a star athlete and got Olby instead. They then mercilessly beat and belittled him. As a result, he idolizes sportsmen and despises conservatives. The conservative sportsman causes Olby immense mental conflict, hence the bizarre attacks on O'Reilly's athletic history.
By the way, my "reporting" on Olby's youth is about as accurate as his reports on politics.
KFK,
I think the personality disorder diagnosis is right on the money.
However, I'd peg Olbermann as a Mama's Boy with a capital M. He was her little prince and he learned to cover up that geek-factor with an interest in sports and a keenly developed sense of the socially acceptable 'easy target' to bully. He coupled that with an fiend's appetite for personal destruction.
Ma and Pa Olbermann managed to instill in little Keith the fixed notion that they were better than the rest of the planet and a sense of outrage at those who didn't instantly recognize their betters.
As to the accuracy of our analysis of Keith's psyche-- don't trouble yourself.... We're been far more even-handed than he's ever been...
There are few things more effective at making me more secure about my own emotional maturity than reading these ignorant, hate filled rants.
So, thanks to all of you.
awwww.... you're welcome, Marcus!
(such a polite, boy!)
It's all about Marcus, isn't it Marcus! Just like Olby. Oy!
All the fox news-bush lovers sure have a good time on this blog. Like the swarming flies they watch O'reilly then dutifully follow his exhortations and follow the scent to their beloved pile of dung.
"All together now!"
But methinks there's only 2 or 3 flies along with their pseudonyms posting on this blog. They do sound much alike in self congratulatory mode, don't they?
But the other ones had more important things to do. They went off to watch Rush, or went to attend their Bible meetings, or to watch their beloved Idaho Redneck potato-ditoheads football team, or salivate while watching a Cheney or Bush jr speech (with brave young soldiers in the background) surrounded by family and loved ones.
Yes much like the Pavlovian animal, Rove figured out how to best use these idiots, to channel their inner sense of worthlessness outward towards others. They will accuse others of smearing, while smearing, lie while lying, fornicating while fornicating. Their beloved mantra: "Do to others before they do unto you".
and: "May the best hypocrite win...God Bless the Unites States of Hypocrisy"
I LOVE OLBERMANN.
Allan,
You left out Emeril Lagasse watching.
We here at Olbermann Watch love us some I-tal-uhn food!
Dear Allan (Combs?)
Nice rant. You have accurately displayed the smugness we at Olbywatch love to hate. I also love your concept of those with opinions other than your own -- so provincial!
Football is indeed a tool of the Devil, and only religious yahoos find Obly repugnant. Several studies have shown that the 300,000,000 non-Olby watchers are ignoramuses.
You stated:
"Yes much like the Pavlovian animal, Rove figured out how to best use these idiots, to channel their inner sense of worthlessness outward towards others."
I am really interested in your thoughts, and I have a few questions:
1. What is the "Pavlovian animal?" Is it native to Russia?
2. Did you mean to imply that Rove is much like the "Pavlovian animal"? If not, then you might want to correct the improper reference in your sloppy-ass sentence.
3. Exactly how is Karl Rove mind-controlling everyone who finds Olby an abomination to all decent men? Is he using magical "Pavlovian mind control?"
4. Heaven forbid I criticise your hero, but your statement accusing Olby's detractors of, "channel[ing] their inner sense of worthlessness outward towards others" is fascinating. How does running around accusing people of being "worst in the world" jibe with that statement? Have you perhaps projected something that you should have hidden better? Is your hero Olby guilty of the crime you so despise?
Anyway, let's set you straight (at least for two seconds, then you can careen back to the left). Pavlov discovered (among other things) that dogs can be trained to associate a sound with food, such that after the animal is conditioned the sound itself will cause salivation. It is a good thing he used dogs and not someone like you, since you are undoubtedly too stupid to train, and you most likely chronically salivate!
Good Day Sir!
KFK, you Pavlovian animal!
Stop! You're killing us!
And good day to you sir!
"It is a good thing he used dogs and not someone like you, since you are undoubtedly too stupid to train, and you most likely chronically salivate!"
Why thank you, you honor me (drool, slurp)
But you are mistaken, I'm not Faux's token liberal.
That's the problem, there's no balance to counteract the repug party network at faux. The dwindling 35-40% bush lovers still need their stimuli or they won't watch it anymore. Of course that lying network will still have good ratings...for now.
But leave it to O'reilly, when he's in a pickle, to bring out a non sequitur, that ratings make an argument valid.
Oh really Bill...did'nt Joseph Goebbels have good ratings too?
In Olbermann's case, maybe we need a little balance to offset the faux liars and bush apologists. So thumbs up for Keith and his "worst list"
As for Pavlovian animals and Rove, if you can't see the simple analogy in the political misuse of the mass media (ahem...define stimulus and conditioning), then you should go back and reread what you wrote.
