"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00-9:00 P.M. ET)
Guest Host: Brian Unger
Topics/Guests:
Even though we're still in the May Sweeps ratings period, when Olby wants a day off, Olby takes a day off. So to replace comedian Keith Olbermann, Countdown again brought us comedian Brian Unger. At least A-Mess-NBC doesn't bother pretending any more that the host's chair of this show is a place for journalists.
Unger is cut from the same cloth as the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann. He tosses erroneous data into the mix without batting an eye. Twice BU claimed that the Senate passed an amendment to make English the "official language". Um, no. The amendment deliberately avoided that declaration, opting for the fuzzier term "national language". Unger decreed that opposing same-sex marriage is a "divisive" issue. Polls are running almost two-to-one in favor of the "divisive opponents, a wider spread than most current controversies. But in Ungerville (a small suburb on OlbyPlanet), amnesty isn't divisive. Giving retroactive social security benefits to illegal aliens isn't divisive. But being against gay marriage is.
For the record, the Countdown:
And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 91st day of the Keith Olbermann CoverUp.
If being anti-gay marriage is such a "winner" for Republicans, why did the Republican-contolled Judiciary Committee hold the vote in CLOSED session and then send it to the Senate where it has ZERO chance of mustering up the 2/3 vote needed to pass?
Feingold had it right - Democratic Senators should simply walk out when this comes up for a vote in two weeks. It's a transparent and shameless ploy by Republican thugs to get another drum to beat in November to get the "values voters" to the polls and the Senate has no time for such obvious shenanigans.
Have a great unofficial leave. Community service?
Gay marriage, English as official language. Boy, can the repubs try any harder to pander to their base? Perhaps, the GOP should delete the spanish part of the web site to show they are serious.
How about solving the Iraq problem, the looming deficit, New Orleans, high gas prices, erosion or irrelevance of the Bill of Rights?
It's great to see that once again Chickensh*t Keith had a diverse lineup of guests to challenge him and cover all points of the spectrum. That guy's a joke, which is why he is dead last in the ratings.
Bob,
FYI that "run activeXcontrol" went away all by it self. Go figure,
Bon voage.
Ut oh! Tape showing William Jefferson DEMOCRAT from Louisiana taking $100,000 in $100 bils from undercover FBI agent. Think Kooky Keith will call in sick tomorrow night? HAHAHAHAHA
http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/05/21/D8HOCUJ81.html
With a tape documenting it, Krazy might not be able to ignore it as he did for months. But watch for him to question the "timing" of this happening now, to distract from Rove, Abramoff, etc. You heard it here first.
Recall that Jefferson is the guy who commandered troops to go to his house in the middle of the worst of the Katrina aftermath. If you had a freezer full of cash melting you'd be in a hurry too.
He roots for the team in pin stripes
Whose fans are bandwagon butt-wipes
Meltdown's circling the drain
But Keith's at the game
With a guest loon to spew moonbat gripes
Kooky Keith will spin the William Jefferson DEMOCRAT from Louisiana "Freezergate" scandal as a racist conspiracy. He will blame the white power structure as payback for Trent Lott. Any other bets on what this loon will come up with if he even dares show up for work tonight?
My boss has his head up his ass
Attacks on colleagues? No class
The staff thinks he's a fool
But he's NBC's tool
Unrefined, insensitive, and crass
Unofficial leave! Guess you Bill-O lovers/Keith Haters won't have any time to disect this piece of information with your usual brand of witty, flippant comment:
"But are Ailes and O'Reilly truthful in their claims about Fox News in general and The O'Reilly Factor in particular? As this... study shows, Republicans and conservatives have received dramatically more face time on Fox News' flagship program than Democrats and progressives."
http://mediamatters.org/items/200605220001
Not quite the bastion of "balance" that we've come to expect from the Bill-O enablers on this site. But I'm sure that you'll probably dismiss it outright because (choose one):
1. You won't bother to visit the site because you think somebody made it up
2. The study is done by a progressive think tank... I mean if they don't take bribes, er.. donations from Republicans, how truthful could it be?
3. Who cares because Bill-O has better ratings...
4. "Reality does have a well-known liberal bias" (Thanks Stephen!)
5. C'mon Bill-O-phants, I'm sure you can come up with a new reason why your guy is sooo much more unbiased than KO!
Either way, enjoy your totally unbiased, unspun, hero-worship while you can still delude yourselves into thinking Bill-O is some bastion of quality journalism. Congrats! Your guy is the cable news show equivalent of McDonald's. Me? I like steak...
Bill O'Reilly is not the subject of this blog. The infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann is.
Furthermore, the study is a typical media matters hack job. They list Andrew Napolitano as (C)onservative [about a half dozen times], Jonathan Turley as (N)eutral, Dick Morris (C), Dave Marash (N), Marvin Kalb (N), John Stossel (C), Juan Hernandez (N)...I could go on and on, but these are all lies. Not one of these people is as described. When you lie about what people are, it's easy to get whatever results you choose to get.
And even if O'Reilly went an entire month with only one Democrat on, that would be more balanced than intellectual coward Keith, who doesn't allow ANY Republicans to be interviewed on his pitiful, losing cable show.
FYI - cable doesn't observe sweeps periods. You should know that.
Remember when Clooney went after O'Reilly, and talked about "sweeps weeks," how Bill O. brushed it off? Same deal. The Nielsen ratings periods only apply to broadcast television.
"Chemist",
If BOR had even ONE progressive/liberal/socialist/moonbat on his show, that number would exceed the number of guests that Triple O (Orange Oprah Olby) has on Meltdown from the opposite side of the political spectrum. Can you name one guest that Triple O has had on his show who dissented (that means "disagreed") with his viewpoint? All I want is one name over the last 18 months that Meltdown has been in existence. Can't come up with one can you? That is because, THERE ARE NONE! No guests on Meltdown challenge Triple O's viewpoint or they don't get invited on. What a tool!

Uh, Just out of curiosity what exactly do you think that "national language" is? Not Portuguese I hope.
hello? Echo?
hello? Echo?
hello? Echo?
Johnny "Ten-Cent": So you're going with the "liberal bias" arguement, eh? I can't speak to all of your list (although the 5 -- out of a few hundred -- wouldn't really skew the results too much) but I will say that Dick Morris is a conservative. Just because his last meaningful job was for Clinton doesn't make him a lib. That would be like me claiming David Brooks is a conservative - not anymore he's not...
Anon: Kenneth Blackwell. Next?
Dick Morris is a conservative? What is his position on abortion? Global warming? Gay rights? Gas taxes? Get back to me with the answers and then explain why this guy, who is the quintessential political technician, is a "conservative".
Interesting that you pick those issues JD.
Gas Taxes? Is there really a part line (D or R) on gas taxes? I mean other than the standard con line "All taxes are bad" (unless they pay my salary OR go to my constituents OR are for a pork barrel project for one of my big donors OR I can form a commitee and put my wife on it OR...). Funny how the so-called cons have somehow built the biggest government bureaucracy in the history of the U.S. Or how they cut taxes primarily on those who can actually afford to pay them - all in a "borrow and spend" form of gov't finance. All very conservative, I'm sure.
Gay rights? Cheney thinks its a states rights issue and diverges from his boss on the issue (for good reason, Mary). Does this make him a lib?
Abortion is still polling at 60% legal. Are we saying that 60% of the nation are libs? Even I can't get on board with those numbers.
Why not some real issues and not these bullsh** election-year hot-button issues you present. Jobs, Standard of Living, Terrorism, Iraq, Alternative Energy Research, Conservation, EDUCATION! HEALTHCARE!!! That, in a nutshell, is the quintissential problem with the Con leadership right now. It's all about winning the election; they have no stomach for the actual governing which takes (gasp!) compromise and an earnest want to achieve actual results with your policies.
I think you hit it on the head with that last sentence. Morris is the "quintessential political technician" - therefore he has no beliefs himself other than the beliefs of those who happen to be paying him. In the 90s he was a lib because he worked for Clinton. Now Murdoch foots his hooker bill, so I'd be inclined to call him leaning-con right now.
In any of his appearances on FOX has Morris ever had ANYTHING nice to say about a Dem or Lib. No, he doesn't, does he? He must just write checks to Dems in secret. Maybe he has his hookers sign them as part of a "special game" they play. I've heard more nice things about libs out of Buchanan. Is he a lib now too?
End thought: the study had to use some criteria to form the basis of the guests political leanings. But I guess taking people at their word would be to subjective, sans actual voting records, which I hear is illegal.
Say Johnny Dollar are you ever going to repsond to that or can we declare the chemist the victor?
I'm on leave this week so I don't read all the comments. But Chemist's arguments are ludicrous on their face. Nothing he said backs up the claim that Morris is a "conservative". And that's just one of dozens of false, fake, phony labels used to weight the Media Matters study so as to come out with the result they wanted. You can get more detail on their trickery here:
http://homepage.mac.com/mkoldys/iblog/C1049953760/E20060525012119/index.html
But this is really off-topic for this site. We are discussing Keith Overbite, not Bill O'Reilly or who his guests are, which in any case is a far more diverse assemblage of viewpoints than Krazy Keith has on.

You are a moron. The chemist very nicely pointed out that you have not explained why those particular issues make anyone a conservative. many Rebuclicans are pro-Choice, or pro gay rights. But if Morris is pro-Choice he can't be a conservative? That makes alot of sense Johhny.
The fact that Dick morris comes on the air and attacks democrats, or writes a book about how Condi can stop Hillary. Or attacks the Clinton's regularly makes calling him a conservative farily reasonable.

Stay on leave a little longer. Maybe you will start making sense when you get back.
what?
Thanks, Anon, for the support. I wasn't really expecting an answer either way... I mean the thread IS a week old...
JD's definitely a Bill-O-phile, though. Same arguement style: just flippantly declare it all "ludicrous". Debate over. Cut his mike.
