"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)
Host: Keith Olbermann
Topics/Guests:
#5: Supposedly the William Jefferson investigation, but first Olby led with a report that Dennis Hastert was being investigated re Jack Abramoff. But wait, no he's not because the Justice Dept denied he was being investigated. Then on to the Jefferson business with Milbank, who made a bad joke about frozen assets. KO described the search of the office as a "G-Man approach", so what does this tell us? Apparently Olby doesn't like searches with a warrant. But he doesn't like searches without a warrant. He doesn't like government acting without judicial oversight. And he doesn't like government acting with judicial oversight. Maybe that's why Lloyd Grove christened him Krazy Keith. Points to Milbank for not openly buying into the preposterous, constitutionally illiterate claims of "separation of powers" violations.
#4: One of KO's most blatantly partisan comments:
[moderates] found themselves sucked into a phony war that has cost the lives of nearly 3,000 American service personnel.
This to introduce a spot on Richard Viguerie, a "noted conservative" who actually has little influence on today's "far right", to use Olby's phraseology. He is so last century that Norah O'Donnell didn't even know how to pronounce his name. RV is upset with George Bush's leadership; he pulled the same stunt during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Regurgitated NBC video.
#3: Interview with Al Gore = PR for his new movie, recycled from the network mothership. #2: iPods for fitness training (regurgitated), Elton John, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Brittney Spears. #1: SUV crash Caught on Tape.
Worst person: Bill O'Reilly (surprise!) because he said a student refused to stand up for the pledge, when her father claims she really does. KO left out that this student was lobbying the school to stop making students do so. No matter, it's still O'Reilly Attack #92.
And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 96th day of the Keith Olbermann CoverUp. And the magic number is now 8.
hey, i love these new merit badges. hey johnny, in your episode summary, maybe you could list who won "world's worst". that part of his show is what usually gets me over here. i noticed olby named bill oreilly again. pathetic. actually, olby has made me hate oreilly less (i never really hated him) simply because oreilly looks so good compared to olby.
In the "pending" update, please address the issue of the Hastert coming to the aid of Jefferson over the issue of his office being searched. This is surely the bipartison initiative you've all been looking for. Be careful not to appear to be agreeing with Olby's distaste for the whole mess.
Additional suggestion for the "update". Olby mentioned the godfather of concervatism. Please comment on Viguerie's comments on Bush's betrayal. Only one rule. You can't attack the messenger, just the message. Go ahead, give it your best shot. Do you agree or disagree?
Viguerie writes: Bush's Base Betrayal
"I've never seen conservatives so downright fed up as they are today. The current relationship between Washington Republicans and the nation's conservatives makes me think of a cheating husband whose wife catches him, and forgives him, time and time again. Then one day he comes home to discover that she has packed her bags and called a cab -- and a divorce lawyer. As the philanderer learns: Hell hath no fury. . .
Hey Patrick Fegan...did you mean to say Terri SCHIAVO?? Ha! If Keith had called her Shindler instead of Shiavo, you would have been all over him. Gee, you were wrong. Imagine that!
And while we're at it I wish you'd all give up on the notion that you're poets!! Can the horrible limericks!!!
With guests like Dana Milbank
The ratings have bottomed the tank
The guests are all loon
Cancellation will be soon
Cuz Meltdown is smelling quite rank
There once was a woman named Starr
Who found OW poets sub-par
She complained in a huff
You boys are too rough
Keith deserves better by far
If you look at yesterday's blogs out here Opie's program WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY SCRIPTED OUT HERE
1- It was "predicted" he would act like a rabid dog about the O'Reilly bit with the kid who didn't stand up for the pledge of Allegiance
2- It was predicted he would act like a rabid dog re the questtons of searching the good Congressmann's office, the one from LA who (remember) had a National Guard entourage (sp?) take him to his house "to gather belongings" during the height of Katrina
The only surprise was that he now is resorting to car crashes for news (#1 story) - which was surprising that (1) shows is going downhill faster thatn expected (2) surprising that Millbanks, Fineman or O'Donnell didn't come on to blame the accident on Bush - and start a coverup investigation.
Who does that Rick Kaplan guy - Opie's boss -report to ?? Certainly not the owners of the Co. the stockholders
Opie is at the height of USA journalism - and integrity - those other journalist just dont; take their jobs seriously
I'd love to see O'Reilly knock Opie's teeth out for him. I can't wait until these two run into each other in person. Opie is such a jealous little pussy that he has to resort to attacking his competitor night after night after night.
Sherry Star, I referred to Terri Schindler as Terri Schindler instead of Terri Schiavo because I just couldn't bring myself to call her by her married name. It had to do with her husband starving and dehydrating her to death over a 13 day period, shacking up with a woman who was not his wife, fathering two bastard children, treating his in-laws like dirt, not allowing his in-laws in the hospice room before she died, lying about the possibility that Terri might have been bolemic, claiming Terri wanted to be starved and dehydrated to death about 6 years into the ordeal. That's why I called Terri Schindler Terri Schindler.
Keith should be proud of you, though. I can hear him singing to you now. " Honey you, are my Sherry Star, don't you go away.....
There are many things worse than limericks, most especially the object of said poems, Komrade Keith.
Here we go again!
"Cheney may be called in CIA leak case"
By TONI LOCY, Associated Press Writer Thu May 25, 2:22 AM ET
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060525/ap_on_go_pr_wh/cia_leak
Well, I wonder if Olby will cover this? Here's a preview:
"UNPRECEDENTED"
"FROGMARCHED OUT OF OVAL OFFICE"
"HUGE BLOW TO THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION"
"NIXONIAN"
Never mind that Joe Wilson lied, Cheney wanted the truth out there, and Val "007" Plame and Joe Wilson are a pair of opportunistic leeches. What a week for J$ to be on vacation! I can't watch the show and I rely on the summaries!
This is hilarious! Has anyone clicked on Fegan's link? It links to a site called Napoleon.org. Patty Fegan has, literally, a Napoleon complex!!! That's the biggest laugh I've ever gotten out of this site.
Still no response to Kenneth Blackwell; conservative who appeared on Countdown; I thought you guys said never; Blackwell had ass given to him in a plain brown wrapper...
Or maybe we can do more limmericks?
Chemist, I watched the clip twice, just to make sure I didn't miss KO do something. I didn't. KO repeatedly made refefence to "Internets rumors" to accuse Blackwell of a meeting the Blackwell stated "zero, never happened." Blackwell explained numerous times the methodology of the certification process and the recount process, detailed the reason that candidates are charged $10 per precinct for a recount (due to a 1956 law) and explained that at the local level at least 3 supervisors of elections were local Kerry campaign chairmen.
Not sure where you got "Blackwell had ass given to him in a plain brown wrapper..." I think that given the obviously antagonistic interviewer, the fact that he was asked to respond to rumor and conjecture, and that he was asked questions about Kerry campaign strategy, he acquitted himself well. He may not be the most well spoken guest that's ever been on CD, but he answered all the questions and insinuations posed to him.
Surely you can do better than this for an example of KO handing a conservative guest their ass. There must be numerous examples.
Hmmm.... my post got deleted.
This is called attacking the messenger. What about the message? "I've never seen conservatives so downright fed up as they are today."
Ah, I come back to see the right-wing hate in full swing.
First on Speaker Hastert. ABC has a source that said he was under investigation, from inside the Department of Justice. I'm not going to take what the DoJ or ABC says as 100% fact, but this is a developing story, and I'm sure there will be more of it. Funny how you wished and wished for Keith to talk about Jefferson, and when he does you talk about it for one sentence along with your interpretation of what Olbermann must've meant when he said "G-Man approach." Oh and those "illiterate claims" you talk about are supported by former Speaker Gingrich and many other Democrats and Republicans. I personally don't buy it, but before dismissing the belief you should at least discuss the claims for a sentence or two.
Hey, guess what, the war in Iraq and the "War on Terror" are phony wars, not in the sense that there aren't any battles, but in the sense that the pretenses for fighting were based on phony principles--even you can admit that.
I keep wondering how long Mr. Dollar is going to stand up for Bill O'Reilly when he keeps making so many stupid statements.
> before dismissing the belief you should at least discuss the claims for a sentence or two.
If the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann deems to make such brainless claims, I will discuss them, and for more than a sentence or two. This is not Hastert Watch or Gingrich Watch so I don't care as much when they say ignorant things.
"Ah, I come back to see the right-wing hate in full swing"
This isn't full of hate at all - rather amusement at watching a moonbat with a way left agenda- try to portry himself as something other, and failing miserably. Can't spin 8000 consecutive weeks last in the ratings any other way. Then - for added comedy - he attacks O'Reilly. Wonder if Opie- what is he 45 or so - isn't married becasue he is too preoccupied with O'Reilly that there's no time in his life for anyone else. No hate at all, amusement, like watching the 63 Mets - or morbid curiositry, like watching a trainwreck
M. nonfactor if you really want to see hate in full swing ease on over to Huffington Post. You will have to search far and wide to find an angrier, more bitter bunch of misanthropes.
"doesn't like government acting without judicial oversight"
I'm sure you are all for that though?
Worst person: Bill O'Reilly (surprise!) because he said a student refused to stand up for the pledge, when her father claims she really does. KO left out that this student was lobbying the school to stop making students do so. No matter, it's still O'Reilly Attack
Interesting, Bill gets it completly wrong but that's ok. because while he did stand up and say the pledge he is using all that freedom and shit,
to argue against being forced into doing so. You are quite the little authoritarian aren't you?

Because while the student did stand up and say the pledge he is using all that freedom and shit, to argue against being forced into doing so. I think it bugs you keith is doing this because You are quite the littl authoritarian aren't you?
The Chemist writes:

Oh, so the Klever Khemist has been doing some browsing and he has actually uncovered a single instance in which a guest on Meltdown has taken a view opposed to KK's. Wow. What a stunning development. Hold the phone, the Krafty Khemist has just exploded the whole notion that Meltdown news anchorman KK distorts the news by putting on guests of a liberal stripe to the exclusion of opposing conservative viewpoints-- HE HAS ACTUALLY FOUND ONE (1) GUEST WHO HAS APPEARED ON MELTDOWN WHO HAS DISAGREED WITH KK !!!!!
OK, time for a reality check. Let's do some math. Meltdown has now been on the air for a little over 18 months. With 52 weeks in a year and 5 shows per week, you have 260 shows a year and 390 for 18 months. Give KK 4 weeks a year for vacation, attending baseball games, brushiing up on the ManTan and you have 30 days out of the host's chair over the past year and a half. That means that you have 360 shows where KK is running the show.
360 shows, average of 3 guests a show = 1080 guest slots. And you bring us exactly ONE person whose dissenting view was allowed on KK's show out of one thousand and eighty possible opportunities.
This, Krazy Khemist is what is known as an anomoly, a deviation of the laws of nature. It is a deviation from the well-established cowardly nature of KK for him to actually debate someone who differs with his own point of view. You don't just look at the numbers, you can find the clinching evidence from KK's own mouth in an interview in the San Bernadino, California news:
"Having both sides politically debating a point adds nothing to the political discourse; plus, it makes me queasy".
Your citing of ONE guest (out of 1,080) who appeared many months ago does not even begin to discount this truth-- KK is a coward who refuses to debate those who disagree with him and therefore his show is a collection of suck ups who mutually reinforce each others hatred for President Bush. Such entertainment!!! Maybe this is why KK's ratings are in the toilet?
Just take some of the recent big issues:
NSA Surveillance program: how many guests has Olby interviewed that argued in favor of the program's legality? ZERO.
Cheney hunting accident: how many guests did he have on who argued against Olby's conspiracy-coverup theory? ZERO.
Phone records gathering: how many guests spoke in favor of the legality of this? ZERO.
We could go on and on. All you have to do is read the summaries night after night. One left-wing pundit, slip-and-fall lawyer, or academic after another, all arguing the same point of view. No consideration for the other side of the story. The ONLY dissenting opinion that stands out during all the time I've been doing these summaries is when Asa Hutchinson appeared to balance out Olby's wacky terror alert-politics nexus theory. And the only reason he was there is because MSNBC FORCED him to put Hutchinson on as a condition to doing his commentary on the issue.
Hank: The challenge was name ONE guest that has disagreed with Keith that appeared on his show. This site maintains it NEVER happens, so I guesss this is what happens when you deal in absolutes - you are more than likely wrong.
I proved the premise of this site wrong. Well, at least the half that doesn't have anything to do with bad limmericks. Sorry, but its true. Give up now.. :-P
JD: You seem to be confusing INTERVIEW show, which is what Bill-O does, with a GENERAL NEWS program, which is what Keith does.
The question begs itself: yea, Keith is biased. So what? He also says things (which I think myself when reading the news) that NO OTHER NEWS PERSONALITY would dare say. Its funny that you would say something like "read the summaries". I watch the show religously. I already know what was said. Not so surprisingly your "summaries" are usually biased and incomplete.
I think what you cons usually assume is that (like most cons) we only get our news from one source. My news intake is usually from AP. If an item interests me, I'll visit my favorite sites/blogs to get a "meatier" picture. Keith works as an end day "round-up" show that gives me yet another viewpoint (who, I'll be the 2nd to admit - after KO himself, is NOT ALWAYS RIGHT) with visuals thrown in for good measure. And car chase vid. Are you the only male on the planet who doesn't like car chases?
Your whole premise that Keith has to be a bastion of impartiality is just plain wrong. Enough so-called libs already do this on CBS. Take your NSA example. There are plenty of other news programs that will say that there are two sides to the NSA program. What they won't mention is that those pro-NSA people all work as lawyers for Bush. What do you think they would say? "Sorry, Boss, you're in deep doo-doo this time!"
KO is smart enough to know that his show fills the niche that many libs have been crying out for: someone who won't take the POTUS viewpoint and work from there. Sure, there are some people who, knowing all the facts on the NSA as well as the liberal foundation of this country, will still be for it. But they need to be pointed out as the neo-facists they are and not allowed to ever be in a position of power, not coddled as the "other" viewpoint. Keith knows this.
Keith also understands that if there were a "war on Xmas", it certainly wouldn't come from retail outlets that stand to make or lose the most money from such a "war". And he certainly wouldn't devote as much time as Bill-O would, all the while talking down to me as if he's someone who knows WTF he's talking about.
> What they won't mention is that those pro-NSA people all work as lawyers for Bush.
So then what, if I produce one attorney who believes the NSA program is legal, who doesn't work for the Bush administration, that makes your statement, what? A mistake? A lie? Something you just made up?
> Your whole premise that Keith has to be a bastion of impartiality is just plain wrong
In that case Keith has succeeding in avoiding any attempt at impartiality from his program. In that statement you have vindicated the purpose and goal of Olbermann Watch: to expose KO as one-sided and biased. Thank you for agreeing with us.
[[KO is smart enough to know that his show fills the niche that many libs have been crying out for: someone who won't take the POTUS viewpoint and work from there.]]
Sorry Chemist, but that niche has already been filled by ABCCBSNBCCNN for the last forty years which is why Fox News in now thriving. KO is just another in a long line of angry lefties that has contempt for middle America especially the white Christian male.
Why is it that Chemist pushes his "Kenneth Blackwell got his ass handed to him by KO" rant until someone responds and then quickly changes the subject to something else. Sounds like the Chemist has no answer for the response.
Game, set, match Olbermannwatch.
Chemist, I don't have a napoleon complex. But I think you might have an Anonymous complex. If I have a complex, it would haveto be a Bill O'Reilly complex. You know, having the #1 news show on the #1 cable news network. I just hope that, if that ever happens, they'll be someone like Olbermann around that I can dominate in the ratings. I'm sure the left could provide me with that person.
Chemist, you and your buddies on the left need to get your story straight. Yesterday or the day before, a Keith supporter posted that Olby has invited conservatives on his silly little show but they were too frightened to accept. Now you say that Keith is right not to give the other side any air time. Which is it?
Don't you think that conservatives view liberals in the same light: unworthy of being given a soap box. But who decides which side is true and which side is full of it. It's the American people and they deserve to hear both sides. Take the NSA affair, for example. Having a conservative on his program might alert Keith to the fact that Bill Clinton did much worse in this regard in the late '90's and with little or no authorization. A conservative would point out to Keith, like Rob Cox and Johnny Dollar here, that Hayden had warrants for these particular logging of phone calls. Then the conservative would say, " Which is it, Keith. Are you for or against warrants." If these folks are neo-fascists, it should become readily apparent. If, however, they are not, then the jig is up and Keith is out on his orange arse.
I have no doubt that Countdown is an answer to the prayers of liberals. But that indeed says a lot. Preaching to the choir gets awfully tired after a while.
The two biggest blemishes on Keith's Kharacter are his hypoKrisy and his Kowardice. First, the hypocrisy. His obsession with Fox News is that it's biased to the right. Apparently, Keith believes liberalism doesn't get a fair shake, or, at best, token bones are thrown to the left. THAT IS FALSE. However, if it were true, Fox would still be incredibly leftist compared to Countdown, who throws no such bone to the right.
It's his show and he can do what he wants. He's obviously comfortable with his abysmal ratings, which are a direct result of his one sided show. Just be honest about who you are, Keith.
Secondly, the Kowardice. One can convince oneself all one can that Keith doesn't have on conservatives or NSA phone call monitoring defenders because they're neo-fascist or some such bunk and why in the world would you let fascists get their message out. That's garbage. The real reason is that he's afraid. He is a klassic koward. He discusses very serious issues and has on stooges who talk and sound very serious, but in the end, if someone was present who would call him on the lies and distortions, he'd literally crumble or have a complete meltdown. That can't be allowed to happen. Over the past couple of years, he's developed a reputation among his true believers that he's witty and a fearless propogator of the truth. That personna would be killed if he had to debate someone his intellectual better. In short, just about anyone.
It's nice to see that Keith himself is posting over here now. Good for him!
Demerol, Robbie is dead. I was in England about a fortnight ago and I ran him over with my motor car. I suppose I was in the wrong because I forgot that the Brits drive on the wrong side of the road and, well, splat went Robbie. Seemed like a nice chap though. Before he died, he said I could have his fish and chips, he did. Cheerio.
Ionamin, what's your beef with Clear Channel?
Gambling-Poker, you, as a Scot of all people, should know that the Irish, Welsh, and the Cornish were also experimented on with Cre(a)mola Foam! Why does it come as such a suprise that it was found in Sheffield as well. For God sakes, man, it devestated all in the British Isles! As for a poll tax in Sheffield, all I can say to that is: Over Old Lady Worthington's dead body.
