"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)
Guest Host: Brian Unger
Topics/Guests:
Unger first dealt with the President's trip to Iraq, minimized as "stagecraft", a "photo-op", and a Tony Award worthy bit of "stagecraft". But the real fun came in the second segment (#4 on the backwards "news" hour). How was David Shuster to explain all those imminent Rove indictments he's been trumpeting for months? That's when Slippery Shuster's whirlwind spin went ballistic.
Desperately backpedaling to cover his own sorry reportage, Slippery first shifted the responsibility to those "lawyers" who, until tonight, were his excellent, thoroughly reliable sources. Then it was Fitzgerald's fault, because he only charges cases that are slam dunks. (Wouldn't he then have a perfect win-loss record? How come he doesn't?) Unger thought Fitzgerald showed "remarkable restraint" because he didn't obey Shuster's predictions and indict Karl Rove. And don't forget it was Luskin's fault too, because his Svengali-like mind control convinced Fitzgerald not to go forward.
It was everybody's fault except David Shuster's.
Still, Olberman and Countdown is hilarious. It's not as funny as The Daily Show, but it still has its moments. I'm sure he'll talk about Dr. Evil (Rove).
Oblerman is on a job interview. How funny is it going to be when they announce that his show has been canceled? How will he be able to show his face anywhere? Who would hire him after all of his cockeme conspiracy theories disguised as news reports? He could always go to work for that new gay news network. Is Olberman gay? OK, I think I will go outbid him on some baseball cards now. Bye.
Listening to Shuster backpedal on the Rove non-indictment is absolutely hilarious. Priceless.
"we hate when that happens"
You Olbski haters. See you got it all wrong. It wasn't that Ubertwit and Spinster got it wrong; that flaming, fire-eating conservative Fitzgerald didn't think he could bully 12 average idiots . . . er, Americans into indicting and then convicting [that Nazi, brown-shirt] Rove [damn it!!!]--even though everyone says that a ham sandwich can be indicted.
I love Spinaround . . . er, Countdown. The craven smile on Spinster's face was priceless.
The usual bevy of bloviators on tonight...Dana "Sperm Blossom" Milbank (did you see the look on his face tonight?) and David Sheister (the preppy spinmeister). Will the Kooky One ever return or are they gradually conditioning us for his departure?
Missed most of it, I'll catch it at 12. But dear Lord has there ever been anything on TV more awkward than this crap about Daryl Hannah? The "comedian" guest isn't funny, Unger is so damn insistant on this "evolution of Ms. Hannah" thing that you can see the guest going "WTF????", and enough with the animals falling from trees video. We've seen them 8 million times already (along with the interviews).
Sorry, just actually read the synopsis.
"CELEBRITIES AND RELIGION: Paul F. Tompkins, comedian" Celebs and religion is about the "evolution" of Ms. Hannah from mermaid to tree-climbing, bleeding-heart criminal. And that has to do with religion.
The writers and producers at CD really have no clue, do they?
And why the constant use of comedians as hosts and guests? KO states he wants to do a New Years Eve comedy routine in Vegas, Unger is a Daily Show cast off, this Paul F. Tompkins guy, who usually is fairly humorous but not tonight, et al.
If they want CD to be a less funny Daily Show, just make it that. Quit claiming to be a news show, and be a parody. It could be the same exact show, just with different commercials.
And where are the Olbermann defenders? Still crying in their towels about Rove's non-indictment? Why aren't they asking themselves serious questions about how Olbermann and Shuster and Milbank and KO's usual roster of accomplices be oh so wrong? If they're half as smart as they're always assuring us they are has their critical questioning abilities gone to exactly?
Cool. "Asked at a June 10, 2004 news conference if he stood by his pledge to fire anyone found to have leaked Plame's name, Bush answered, 'Yes. And that's up to the U.S. attorney to find the facts.'"
Press Gaggle: 10/10/2003: "Q Scott, earlier this week you told us that neither Karl Rove, Elliot Abrams nor Lewis Libby disclosed any classified information with regard to the leak. I wondered if you could tell us more specifically whether any of them told any reporter that Valerie Plame worked for the CIA?
MR. McCLELLAN: Those individuals -- I talked -- I spoke with those individuals, as I pointed out, and those individuals assured me they were not involved in this. And that's where it stands. "
Nice of you guys to stand by men who basically lied in your face. Interested in a bridge for sale?
Seemed perjury and lying to the people are a valued traits for dems..oh, it was about sex.
Seems this current case failed to find any law broken regarding the 'outing' of somebody who wasn't covert.
If truth to the people and respect for the courts really were to have meaning, you are making your stand about 8 years to late.
I have to say it. Brian Unger does Olbermann better than Olbermann does Olbermann. Basically the same sensiblities presented with a less (bordering on hysteria)scary style. Unger wouldn't be caught dead doing the funny voice. Unger is not shackled to the O'Reilly obession. And the Media Matters Minute? Who misses it? Dan Abrams, are you watching?
This is just unbelievable! I'm just listening to CD (to hear what you guys have been talking about), while shopping on Amazon. But it sounds more like I'm surveilling the enemy. These idiots (Unger and Dana Milbank) have just taken shots at every single thing the President has done. They downplay the significance of Zarqawi's death; they ridicule the idea of the President visiting Iraq today; they are absolutely giddy at the photo taken on the trip of Tony Snow and possibly Dan Bartlett, who looks a little ill.
God help us; now Unger has just brought in the ill-informed David Shuster. No apology for being so wrong so many times about Rove's "imminent" indictment; just excuses as to how it was his sources who were wrong. And they are "contrasting" Rove speaking to "war heroes" Kerry and Murtha.
These people are absolutely DEVASTATED, and bitter, of course, of all of the events that have happened the last few days. But they are SUPPOSED to be impartial journalists. How can this be allowed to occur, at the tiny "subsidiary" of a major news organization?
Just wanted to tell the anonymous poster that federal grand juries aren't "12 average idiots." The grand jury in this case is the same grand jury used in all the federal grand jury cases (for monday and friday--or whatever days they meet).
Fortunately, there are still two possible days of reckoning remaining in this situation. Uberspinn returns on Monday. One wonders what he will say? Perhaps, he will allow the 900-lb. gorilla to rest uneasily on his shoulder for several days. Must-See TV returns to (MS)NBC.
Next, by implication, since Fitzgerald only selects cases that are slam dunks--according Spinster--Libby should be going to the gallows when that case is brought before the jury. Perhaps, based on Spinster's recent record, another day of joy awaits, also, if Libby is acquitted.
Perhaps Fitz cut Rover loose because it wasn't a slam-dunk. That's sensible. Maybe he also cut Rover loose so the statute of limitations for Plame's civil suit wouldn't run out.
At any rate, Rover still needs to explain why he lied to Scott McClellan and the President about his involvement. The Prez also needs to explain why Rover was jabbering about Plame to reporters anyway. Its no longer "an ongoing investigation" so they can fess up.
Switched to O'Lielly during the Hannah segment. He was telling Ingraham that he wouldn't have Kos or Atrios on his show because he couldn't have a convesation with them. He also told her he wasn't going to mention the "Take Back America" convention but had to because Ingraham brought it up. No wonder Faux viewers are so misinformed.
I also noticed (as Robert Cox pointed out) David Schuster's "we hate when that happens". Schuster (aka Gomer Pyle mouth), is so obviously not an unbiased reporter, really showing his disappointment tonight. What is with those weird facial movements David? Too much Gomer Pyle when you were a kid? Practicing "Shazam" and "Goooooooaaaaally" too much?
Odd that olby wasn't here on the night of the non-Rove indictment. Would he have been absent if there were a Rove indictment announcement this morning? Hiding under you desk tonight olby?
What a pathetic show. I fully expect Abrams to fire this nut sooner rather than later.
Hey hit_escape:
What's the point of discussing the content of O'Reilly's show tonight? I mean really? It's pretty weird.
What's the deal with the way Schuster says "Hardball"? Every time I hear it, I think its a joke. It can't be a joke can it?
hit_escape,
Get some new material. That "Faux" News and "O'Lielly" stuff was funny for a nanosecond when we first heard it 10 years ago, but it no longer makes an impact.
However changing words with a "c" into words with a "k" will always be funny. As well as splicing Keith Olbermann's name into numerous other words. Harharhar.
Oh, and to DadX4: I believe Schuster said "we hate it when that happens" in reference to having all sources wrong on a story rather than about Republican officials being indicted.
And to clear up any misconceptions you might have Keith is on vacation, he should be back on Monday. And Abrams has stated that he likes shows like Countdown and Hardball and wants to define MSNBC (something they haven't been able to do for 11 years).
#1. All this gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands just begs the wonderful question, "what will happen when Libby walks?" Believe me, Fitzgerald is not happy. He looks angry and depressed. Scooter has been accumulating the evidence that Fitz didn't, and it will come out in court. Maybe Fitz and Nifong will have a beer together after their respective witch hunts result in disgrace.
#2. "hit_escape" typed >"Perhaps Fitz cut Rover loose because it wasn't a slam-dunk. That's sensible. Maybe he also cut Rover loose so the statute of limitations for Plame's civil suit wouldn't run out."
Ah, the "civil suit." Uncle Joe and "007" Val are going to be under alot of pressure to file a civil suit. Problem is, a civil suit will expose all of their lies and make them look like the pathetic spotlight grabbers they are. If they file a civil suit seeking damages, they will have to explain how their income increased one-hundred-fold after Joe wrote his attack piece in the Times and Chucky "the Schmuck" Schumer made this a "cause celib {spelling purposeful}." I mean, Uncy Joe and Val have never been so happy! Vogue spreads, front page glamour shots, uberlib status, free trips. . .exactly where are the damages? Exactly who has been hurt? No Mr. Escape, I don't think this pair of opportunists will be filing any lawsuits unless they are truly insane or pressured with excommunication from the Church of Latter Day Uberlibs.
This civil suit may mean that Libby is entitled to some of Wilson's profit? After all if it wasn't for Libby who suppossedly outed them, they would never have benefitted financially. Hmmmmmmmmm.
Actually something interesting did occur on the Factor this evening. Major Paul Hackett, no friend to the Bush Administration, was on and basically stated that John Murtha is fabricating much of the Haditha incident. Hackett claimed that numerous times he has tried to contact Murtha about how the Marines conducted the offensive to no avail. Seems Murtha won't even return Hacketts telephone messages. Appears another liberal politician is politicizing the troops. And we're to believe they "support the troops"
"Seems this current case failed to find any law broken regarding the 'outing' of somebody who wasn't covert."
Paul, I don't think this was a case. I believe it was an investigation. Libby's is a case and it is not yet over. Yes I know Libby's case is about perjury and not the 'outing' of an undercover operative but it is about why he had been lying to federal investigators and the grand jury to hinder their investigation. It's not over yet. Rove is in the clear though. Oh! Yeah! There is a difference between a special prosecutor and a independent council.
KfK,
Fitz is Bi-partsian. I challenge you to find a source that suggest he isn't. By source I don't mean other blog sites or name calling. I did hear when he was a kid he collected baseball cards. Baseball card collecting can you believe that? KfK, I also would like to recomend book for you to read. It is called The Apprentice. It is a must read. The author's name has escaped me at the moment.
Boy O boy Danny,
I didn't say Fitz was partisan, did I? Did I write he was exercising a political vendetta? No, I didn't. I did compare him to Nifong, because I think both have very bad cases on their hands. So your fervent defense of the guy in response to your own invention is touching but unnecessary.
KfK,
So you believe him to be Bi-partsian correct?
Did anyone catch oreilley on Today? Krazy Keith must be steamed that his own network doesn't take him seriously enough to have on their main news programs. Instead they invite his arch rival for political commentary. H emust be going nuts. You think he's under the kitchen table in a fetal postion?
Meltdown's host is missing in action
Is there discord within Oafie's faction?
Unger's wearing Keef's hat
Just another moonbat
No viewers is the public reaction
Danny
What is your major malfunction? I don't know his political leanings and don't care. From what I can see, he is overzealous. Happens alot when you give a public servant a huge amount of power. His political leanings have not been relevant -- only his inability to refrain from stupid public statements and foolish indictments that will make him look bad. He dodged a bullet by not indicting Rove. However, Scooter's lawyers are going to blow this thing wide open, and Fitz will find that all his liberal cheerleaders have vanished when his case collapses and he looks dumb. Tough lesson to learn, but there you have it.
Dannyboy, I think non-partisan may be more appropriate, if you mean that he has know ideological horse in this case.
bi·par·ti·san ( P ) Pronunciation Key (b-pärt-zn, -sn)
adj.
Of, consisting of, or supported by members of two parties, especially two major political parties: a bipartisan resolution.
If Krazy Keith gets cancelled MSNBC, that's like being cut by the Kansas City Royals.

He'll wind up destroying AA farm club The Dan Patrick Show too.
