"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)
Guest Host: Brian Unger
Topics/Guests:
Comedian Brian Unger, substituting for comedian and prolific emailer Keith Olbermann, began The Hour of Spin by stating that the Congress today wasn't debating the war, it was debating the "patriotism of Democrats". After a string of Democrat strategists on Countdown all spouting the party line, tonight they decided to be fair and balanced. Instead of a Democrat strategist, they brought on a Democrat lawmaker: Jack Murtha.
In the Repeating a Lie Makes It True Department, Unger continued to flog yesterday's now-discredited story (amnesty for killers of American troops) as if it were gospel. The rest of his interview was so toothless it made Larry King look like Michael Savage, complete with fatuous nonsense about Murtha being "personally attacked" on the floor of the House (actually Murtha personally attacked the Republican!). This propaganda-fest was spread over two segments: a nice bit of free PR for the left. Naturally conservatives don't get even a one-segment interview on The Hour of Spin
The failed comedian claimed Cheney said the Iraq war "has actually prevented further terrorist attacks here in the US". What Cheney said: it was "in part responsible" for the absence of terror attacks. Is this called doctoring a quote? Someone call Slippery Shuster and get a ruling! And in discussing privacy and the NSA, Countdown continued in its biased, propagandistic tradition of never interviewing a guest who argues in favor of the NSA program. So they dragged in Turley again.
Unger kept harping on how poorly the war was going, but for the second day in a row didn't report on the Zarqawi documents that paint quite a different picture. Also for the second day in a row, no mention of the upturn in both Bush's poll numbers and public opinion regarding the war. Newly-translated documents that link Saddam Hussein to the Taliban were also tactfully avoided.
We didn't bother with the rest of the show. We're taking a long weekend to steel ourselves for the return of the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann. He will bring fairness and balance back to Countdown by interviewing another Democrat politician: Al Gore.
UPDATE: Newsbusters take - MSNBC: Murtha Is 'Personal Attack' Victim, As Murtha Insults Rove's 'Fat Backside'
Of course, now that you've been linked to by "the ping-pong ball queefing whore" that self/asian-loathing Malkin thinks she is, it's only a matter of time before you disable comments so you won't have to hear from the reality-based community,
Ah! More racist talk from our open-minded liberal pals! Seems they LOVE to attack Michelle for being female and Asian! Oh well, kooks will be kooks!
Keith and his pals have infinate disdain for women.
Murtha personally attacked the Republican? Were we watching the same video clip? You've used the term "failed comedian" twice (or maybe more) in your reviews this week; one would think you could go into a thesaurus or something like you do every time Dana Milbank comes on the show (quick, what's another word for costume?).
Way to parse over words and make a fool of yourself. I don't see how the claim made by Unger changes at all when you add in "in part responsible" - Cheney is still saying that the war has prevent more terrorists attacks on the U.S. (if Unger had said that Cheney said the Iraq war is solely responsible then you might have a valid point).
If those link Saddam to the Taliban then Republicans are all corrupt and Democrats are all against the war. First of all we don't even know how true the documents are, we'll see if other, more credible, news agencies pick up the story and if FOX continues to talk about it. Secondly, this (reported) conversation took place in 1999 and we didn't even have the "information" until after we invaded Iraq. And thirdly this isn't a link between Saddam and the Taliban as you'd like to believe, but rather a claim that his "inner circle" once talked to officials in the Taliban 4 years before we invaded. But you can always count on FOX"mobile weapons labs"NEWS to report the truth.
GraynotGray -
Nice to see the leftwing bigots are out tonight. You're typical of the mindless scum that watches Olbermann.
You're almost semi-literate.
Oh, and the ping-pong ball comment doesn't have anything to do with being Asian, it has to do with popping a ping-pong ball out of her vagina.
> Murtha personally attacked the Republican? Were we watching the same video clip?
Murtha did not address any of the substance of the argument. Instead he bellowed at the guy, were you at Normandy? Were you in VietNam? Etc. If that ain't an ad hominem attack then I didn't study five years of Latin.
Was the honorable congressman from Pennsylvania at Normandy?
Under the implications of Murtha, previous wars and battles may not be discussed or debated, unless by a veteran.
You mean a lefty cannot invoke Vietnam? If this is what it is like if the dems were to come to power, will free speech be ammended?
If they are rolling out Turley, it can only be a rehash of framing impeachment for Bush. Turly is left of center, but on the NSA stuff, he is zealous.
A Congressman uses his time on the floor to insult John Murtha stating that if he were around during World War II the Nazi's would have won, and he was the one who was verbally attacked?
Jack Murtha could've responded with a real ad hominem, but instead he asked questions that shut the man up. You just don't accuse someone, on the House floor, of being an ally (potential) to the Nazis.
The man wasn't talking about former wars, he was simply using his time to attack Murtha.
Sure the Republican Congressman would be free to discuss Normandy or Vietnam from a historical perspective, but to claim Murtha would've been an aid to the Nazi's is just slander.
Actually Murtha accused me of committing attrocites in Haditha...
Were you there too, Jack?
http://www.armytimes.com/story.php?f=1-292925-1808360.php
Rep. John Murtha, an influential Pennsylvania lawmaker and outspoken critic of the war in Iraq, said today Marines had “killed innocent civilians in cold blood” after allegedly responding to a roadside bomb ambush that killed a Marine during a patrol in Haditha, Iraq, Nov. 19.
Now why would Jack put his career on the line?
Rove must have really gotten under his skin.
“There was no firefight. There was no [bomb] that killed those innocent people,” Murtha explained, adding there were “about twice as many” Iraqis killed than Time had reported.
Wow. Talk about being sure of your intel. Be a shame if this is not even close to what happened.
BW2221---
Speaking of semi-literacy, you misspelled my name. There's an 'E' in it.
Just stick to regurgitating her rhetoric, you'll never have to be bothered with an original thought in your life.
You mean like
GeyNOTgay?
Why does Murtha hate Marines?
Why does Murtha hate Freedom?
Why does Murtha hate America?
Who is they?
Actually if Murtha had spouted his objections and allegations against the troops toward World War Two, Roosevelt would have had some secret service thugs snatch him up blind folded and deposited in a White House Basement without windows to stew a couple hours till FDR got around to calling him up for an ass chewing.
FDR didn't play politics.
I am wondering what you think Iraq and the Taliban had to talk about in 1999?
The Fox news mobile weapons labs have been well documented by the Times and Newsweek as dual use mobile labs, and no doubt they could have been used to launch weather balloons. But what I am wondering is why did Saddam spend $1.5 billion dollars on predicting the weather in 2002?
Like he did to Charles Lindberg?
Firstly, I don't even know if the accounts that some (one or more) Iraqi officials met with the Taliban are true. If they are then I honestly don't know. It could have been anything from a Middle East house party to a plot to control the sun.
The host likes to send viewers hate mail
While his show it continues to fail
He's vulger and crass
Celiac gives him gas
His emails should land him in jail
Look what I found on AOL.
Bill O'Reilly:
AOL says ===It must suck to claim that U.S. troops were responsible for murderous war crimes in WWII at Malm餹 when really it was 84 Americans who were brutally slaughtered by Nazis in the massacre. It also sucks that Fox then washed the show's online transcripts to make it look as if the misrepresentation never happened. Thanks to Keith Olbermann for providing the "Stairway to Heaven" of verbal attacks.===
You all probably hashed this over seeing as it's your shtick. But It's worth saying (again?) How stupid do you have to be to think "O'Reilly couldn't remember one instance of an American led massacre. Look what a bonehead he is."
It's as if Bill didn't get the AOL memo directing all stories to be slanted to show Americans as bad guys. Then AOL says Bill sucks because he couldn't smear the military even when he was trying to.
O'Reilly just proved by accident that he really does support the troops, even subconsciously.
nonfactor, I guess you missed the memo on Asian racism. Ping Pong references are designed to denigrate Asians. Really. Everybody knows it except you. Now you can go to bed less stupid.
"Oh, and the ping-pong ball comment doesn't have anything to do with being Asian, it has to do with popping a ping-pong ball out of her vagina."
I understand why you libs fantasize such things about conservative women. Imagining Kim Gandy or Natalie Maines doing anything sexual doesn't quite have the same effect does it? And we know how racist, anti-semitic and intolerant of anyone who disagrees with your ideas, (particularly religious people) you lefties are. We're not as stupid as the people you're used to talking to. WE GET IT.
I understand how you conversative types may not know what "queefing" is.
In "Southpark: Bigger, Longer, Uncut", the ping pong ball trick was simulated by Winona Ryder. Ryder's not Asian. It's got nothing to do with being Asian.
Nonfactor is a member of "the former party of tolerance". Democrats love to preach how tolerant they are. Today's democratic party is full of nothing but hate led by Michael Moore, Cindy Sheehan and Al Sharpton. I wonder if Nonfactor is really Kooky Keith? This forum sure rents alot of space in his head.
The Democrats aka the Dhimmicrats. Olbermann will soon be wearing a Zarqawi T-Shirt!
"Intolerance of intolerance is the only intolerance tolerated."
Nonfactor, you're statement about Michelle Malkin is disgusting. You "people of tolerance" are pathetic, and GROSS!
Why describe her as self/asian-loathing? She's anything but self-loathing. The original quote that gray was referring to was indeed a racist comment.
It seems the writer was looking for some excuse to work the asian theme in. I'm not sure it's racism, but there's definitely a foul odor in his post.
More like "only tolerance is tolerated." Kumbaya fascism.
Oh yeah, now I've had the pleasure to be called a racist intolerant anti-Semite. I'm sad the standard for the conservatives on this site was set so low.
Missy, I didn't make any statement about Malkin, I just clarified that "queefing a ping-pong ball" was not racist.
And isn't a bit ironic how conservatives love so much to say what liberals believe in or what liberals do, or even who runs the Democratic party. Of course they always mention un-elected individuals who happen to adhere to liberal beliefs.
Bush said he talked to Maliki about the amnesty proposal. There's your confirmation right there. They tried to backtrack on the thing by pretending it didn't happen. The next day, one of Maliki's aides resigned over it but didn't backtrack from the statement. Nothing was disproven because Bush himself confirmed there was a proposal.
Apparently, five Repub senators thought it was real because they went on record saying it was okay to give amnesty to Iraqis who have killed Americans. Nevermind that the war is still going on. Should make for an easy pickup of five senate seats for dems when those traitors come up for re-election.
Murtha was attacked by the Repub saying we'd be speaking German if Murtha had been been at Normandy. Murtha asked the idiot if he had been in WWII, Vietnam or Iraq. The chicken-hawk swiftboater replied "No". I think the guy attacked himself by even bringing it up.
"they went on record saying it was okay to give amnesty to Iraqis who have killed Americans."
I have heard a lot of democratic Senators saying that the disbanding of the military was a bad idea. If we had kept the military together(note the command structure is almost completely Baathist) we would have reinstated people who have killed US soldiers.
Yeah, anony, which is why we should never try and reinstate Foreign PoW's; afterall the killed U.S. Soldiers.
The Iraqi army is different from the insurgents in Iraq, especially when the insurgents kill someone it's murder, when an army does it it's war.
