hit - Why am I not surprised that you can't tell the difference between "speaking truth to power" and "being a jerk". I don't have any particular feelings for Kaplan (whom I've met), Abrams or Cosby (who I don't know at all) but is it really good office politics to be be so dismissive of a guy who constantly boosted your show (Kaplan), your new boss (Abrams) and go around insulting a fellow news anchor (Cosby) in "fan emails"? Forget office politics, is that really a good way to treat other people?

KO is famous for mistreating staff and insulting colleagues so this is hardly a surprise but only serves to highlight why, as Tony Snow famously noted, you could fit Keith's friends inside a phone booth.

Only an imbecile would send out negative, catty comments to a fan from his personal inbox. A functional psychotic. Does Keith have any healthy relationships with women? Rita Cosby is an infinitely better reporter/investigator than Keith. She is known for big "gets" and a tireless worker. Rita has to think on her feet and be creative. Keith has to read teleprompters and insert snide remarks to placate his Dailykos base. At this point, I actually feel sorry for him. He is in way over his head and he knows it.

I LOVE how much some people read into words they seen written in a gossip column. Do we know the context in which Keith said he answered to no one? Was he smiling jokingly or did he have a stone straight look on his face? When columns don't say what exactly people said it's easy for things to get muddled (for example did Olbermann say about Abrams: He's capable, very capable...etc.). KO called Rita dumb, so? Does anyone here ever listen to Don Imus?

And if we're going to start taking Lloyd Grove opinion pieces about KO seriously we might as well start believing that KfK is non-partisan. Grove has a grudge with KO even more so than any right-winger on this site.

I have to admit, I tune in to watch - because the great Opie train wreck is going to come - and I don't want to miss it live. Scientology actually might help this guy

Paul - When Olbermann worked at ESPN2 he was very very very very cynical. He made many comments about how he didn't like the people he worked with and I think something about his executives. The issue with Kolber was (and I'm not sure about this) that Olbermann was simply nitpicking (as many men were back then) about there being a woman covering sports. He didn't say anything about her like Andy Rooney, but he was blaming the problems of the network on her.

Once he figured out that his comments made her cry he was very sorry. He wrote an article about it in which he apologized, not only to Suzy, but to all the people at ESPN2.

And on topic. I don't really see the problem with what KO is reported to have said about Abrams and Carlson. He was commenting on Abrams saying he was capable (really not much information) and Carlson in jest about his fight with John Stewart. Sure, KO will probably have to resolve any conflict with fellow hosts, but I don't think calling Rita Cosby dumb (which is a laughed about quality she has) is anything career threatening or even worth much speculation.

The trend that seems to be apparent is that "progressive' Kieth really isn't.

Rita has gone to Iraq has she not? Rita went to New Orleans. Rita in short has been a real reporter, a real journalist. You can make cracks all you want about her voice or the sometimes tabloid nature of her show but she at least leaves the studio on occasion. She's not lazy. And she's anything but dumb. And I hope Olbermann finds out first hand how nice she really isn't. It's high time a woman set Olbermann straight. Keith has made disparaging remarks against several women, especially those over 40, on Countdown or on DP's ESPN show - for example, Sharon Stone, Heather Locklear and Meredith Viera. I think that the snide, elitism is what pushes people to disdain Geef so much. I am right-of-center, but I listen to people whom I believe are probably left-of-center because I like their shows--Dan Patrick without Olbermann (though his is primarily sports related) for instance. Geef believes that he knows everything and every one else is some inferior, inbred moron that just fell off the turnip cart. He thinks this though he hasn't succeeded anywhere he's been.

Plus, his show is so overtly biased. Say what you want about Fox News, but I have never seen a news broadcast on that channel led off with such a blatantly partisan story as the one about Coulter and the Republicans last week.

Yes, one should make sure one's insults are up to par before posting -- on that Nonfactor and I both agree. I suggest clever wordplay with the prefix "Olb" or "Olber" as well as liberal use of alliteration. Some of my best work has involved song parodies and the invocation of mad libs. The full frontal insult can be effective if used tastefully. Always keep in mind your audience and always remember, "with hunchbacks one may well speak in a hunchbacked way!"

Those of us who rail against liberal media bias are just like Hitler. How progressive of you. Old tricks are the best tricks. It is precisely for that reason, that you will never see media bias or a journalist's use of adjectives and inuendo to inject his own commentary on the subject he is "reporting" as showing bias.
I am not saying that this doesn't happen at Fox News' Special Report, because it does. It certainly insinuates to the right. In that timeslot, however, there are 5 others that do the exact opposite. I would say a current 5 to 1 slant towards liberal bias and a 40 year history of viewing events through the eyes of liberals is reason enough for you to feel safe in your own indoctrination.

The reason Gregory, Olby, Gibson, Schuster, and even Matthews (to a lesser degree) deserve scrutiny is because they represent themselves as objective reporters of fact. People like O'reilly, Hannity, Carlson, Scarborough, Colmes don't. Because MSNBC uses Matthews for special events like election coverage, he gets this scrutiny as well, probably unfairly. When I watch "Hardball" or "The O'reilly Factor", I know I am going to get an opinion from the host, in fact the tease into the show tells us this much (especially in The Factor's case). If they would just tease "Countdown" with: "Keith's got a problem with President Bush, and Republicans are evil, so stay tuned for commentary from only the 'left'," there would be no real reason for this site to exist.

You miss a vital point. "Newscasts" should contain news, not opinion. Keith needs to be honest and call his show something other than a news show or suffer the consequences. After I forwarded that and other E-mails to an MSNBC exec, {wish you hadn't attacked Lloyd's assistant much Keith?} Olbermann wrote: "I apologize to anyone who might take offense at my part of this correspondence. Your assumption is precisely why talk radio works for the right and not the left. While the left is pounding the opinions by openly conservative or right of center pundits and columnists, the right is focused on the mainstream media (something that everyone watches, reads). Who cares what Randy Rhodes, Al Franken, or Jerry Springer say? Those guys set themselves up to be hypocrits as do people like Hannity and Rush. The real problem is that something like 60% of journalists consider themselves independent.

By the way, who exactly are the current liberal intellectuals? I'll take Krauthammer, George Will, Gingrich, Larry Miller, Dennis Miller, William F. Buckley etc... Who you got?

Personally, I am not offended at Olbermann said. I am offended that he was so uninventive in his put downs. I mean give me a break. No wonder he's got no ratings. I also like his statement that one of his "correspondents" did not know the medium. Apparently, he hasn't heard about glass houses.

The executives have met and decided to change the format for Keith's show. The new "Go Fuck Your Mother and Die" show with Keith Olbermann debuts this Monday. The show will consist of lively real-world interactions between Keith and his fans.

Also, don't forget to watch Keith's new reality show, called "Yes I Hate You." Cameras follow Olby from when he wakes up ("I feel like shit -- this planet sucks") to the corner store ("just give me my fucking paper you ass") to his place of work ("fuck you everybody -- how stupid are you all -- if you need me I'll be under my desk").

In terms of being a pompous ass windbag, KO is cut from the same cloth as Bill O'Reilly. It's no wonder they hate each other. The only difference is KO uses Bill to try to boost his ratings. On KO's attack on Rita Cosby, when you compare all her credentials, awards and accomplishments to his meager profile, he should be embarrassed. I mean how many World leaders has he interviewed, how many languages does he speak, how many charities does he contribute to and how often has he been recognized for his excellence in reporting by his profession has he received?
