"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)
Guest Host: Brian Unger!
Topics/Guests:
Once upon a time Aaron Brown covered news on CNN. Then there was the Space Shuttle disaster, and Mr Brown was nowhere to be seen. He had an important golf game. Nowadays he has a lot of free time to spend on the golf course. So it is that during the biggest news story of the year, the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann just doesn't have time to anchor his own show. Jay Leno and the Hollywood crowd take precedence over that annoying business in the Middle East. In the tradition of Edward R Murrow, of course.
So we get another night off (for this relief, much thanks), and leave analysis of Unger's spinning to our clear-headed commenters. But that in no way means we can completely ignore Olbermann's latest lies.
Keith dismisses ratings as meaningless and unimportant, but if that's the case, why does he continue to lie about them? To wit:
In total audience, we can be beaten [by O'Reilly] on a given night 7-to-1, 3-to-1, somewhere in that range usually. Three-to-one is a good night that we're down by in total audience.
The latest monthly [June] ratings:
The O'Reilly Factor: 2,141,000
Countdown with Keith Olbermann: 286,000
O'Reilly Superiority Ratio: 7.5 to 1
But in that demographic number [25-54], we have in the last year moved from third place at 8 p.m., past CNN, into second place, which is, if not unprecedented at MSNBC, it is unprecedented in the last 100 years, 200? OK, five years. (Laughter.)
8:00 pm Cable News Race, 25-54 Demo, 2005 vs 2006:
June 2005 monthly ratings 25-54 demo:
The O'Reilly Factor: 511,000
Paula Zahn Now: 193,000
Nancy Grace: 191,000
Countdown with Keith Olbermann: 121,000
June 2006 monthly ratings 25-54 demo:
The O'Reilly Factor: 402,000
Paul Zahn Now: 167,000
Nancy Grace: 136,000
Keith Olbermann: 106,000
I'm a little loose with the numbers, as you can tell. On an average night, we might come in somewhere around 150,000, 250,000 in the demographic number. And O'Reilly is somewhere between 400.
Latest monthly [June] ratings in the 25-54 demo:
The O'Reilly Factor: 402,000
Countdown with Keith Olbermann: 106,000
Virtually everything Krazy Keith told the Kansas City Star about his ratings was a lie! O'Reilly's advantage in total viewers averages more than 7-1, not some fictional vague ground between 3-1 and 7-1. Olby wasn't in third place a year ago. He's not in third place now, and has certainly not moved up to second place. He's right where he was a year ago: fourth in a four-way race, both in total viewers and the 25-54 demo. Finally, his demo numbers do not come in between 150-250,000 on an average night. Try 106,000, Keith.
Olbermann has a habit of lying about his ratings, and the MSM have a habit of never calling him on it. But the spin stops here.
I noticed with great interest this weekend as the MSNBC set was living it up in Hollywood that Larry King & Anderson Cooper were live on both Saturday and Sunday in CNN Prime. Fox was live too, hauling out their A-list anchors. What was MSNBC doing? Taped programming on b-list celebs and jails. Says a lot doesn't it?
I feel a "cry more" is necessary here.
Maybe Keith is out playing in traffic. He says he likes that sort of thing.
Shows you exactly how important KO is to the MSNBC network. I believe all the important players are on the air this week.
Shows you exactly how important KO is to the MSNBC network. I believe all the important players are on the air this week.
I hear that Olby is appearing on ESPN SportsCenter tonight. Hmmmm....
Is there anyway to justify what he is saying? At all?
From what is posted above it looks like total viewship is down 20%.
It looks like both June 2005 and June 2006 that O'Relly gets about 50% of of those who are wathcing th cable news channels. No? 402/811 is 49.7% and 511/1016 is 50.3%
So, in percentages BO is down one-half a percent.
Obly goes from 11.9% to 13.1% of the total. In a way that can be argues as a 10% increse whil BO is down 1%. But is takes a twist to get there.
My question is, for him to claim he is up like he says he is and BO is down like he says he is, what are they doing to the numbers.
Not thay Ko deserves it, but I am just trying to see if the guy is just crazy or if he has pathological.
It does not depend on the definition of "is" but it all depends on what you count and from when to when.
His ratings are up from their all-time lows. If you take the absolute low point and compare from there then yes his ratings are up. If you take them from when the show first aired until now then they are down. If you take them from their peak during the Winter Olympics then they are a straight line down.
It's the biggest news story of the year
But Krazy Keith must be hiding in fear
He's a no-show
But he's booked on Jay Leno
It's no wonder his colleagues all jeer
Leave it to the conservatives to try and play what's happening in Lebanon as the "biggest news story of the year," while trying to ignore the conservative created travesty in Iraq.
Leno tonight, after the monologue, did his usual Monday hype of guests for this week. To my amazement (yawn), he didn't mention Olby. The powers that be probably decided that Leno's audience demo doesn't know who he is.
:WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In a major victory for the White House, the Senate early Friday voted 77-23 to authorize President Bush to attack Iraq---
Hours earlier, the House approved an identical resolution, 296-133 date 10/11/2002.
Lots of crossovers makes it a bi-partisan "travesty".Give credit were credit is due.Quit distorting reality Nonfactor. The facts support some credit to Democrats for Iraq.
New Liberal definition of travesty: Capturing and removing Dictator, killing terrorists, freeing Kurds,Shia and helping a country establish a better brighter future.
Funny…Olby on vacation……wasn’t he just on vacation…wasn’t he just snickering a few weeks ago about Bush being on vacation all the time.
Mr SprayCanTanMan seems to always be on "vacation" when the crap hits the fan regarding his behavior.
Witness all the time off he had when it was exposed he wrote vile emails...and now Saturdays vile Nazi salute.
Me thinks he is afraid to own up to his flaws and face criticism for his vile behavior
It's bad enough he's in last place. He's willing to tell outright lies about his standing in his "coveted" 25-54 demographic.
How long will this last. What kind of a network willingly accepts bottom rung on the ladder forever and ever. Will Dan Abrams address this disaster or just pull the MSNBC ostrich trick.
He is not on vacation. He went to California to promote MSNBC and his show. Tonight he is on Leno.

Keith Olbermann
Music - Los Lonely Boys
Found it to be kind of funny seeing a promo for Rita Cosby's show this morning. Her special guest for tonight's show is none other than....Pete Rose. He will discuss the current state of baseball in relationship to the steroids scandal and will also commenting on his own situation in regards to baseball. Either Rose did not want to appear on CD and the MESSNBC decided the best time to bring him on was when KO was away or the decision was made at MESSNBC not to have KO interview him or KO made it known to the brass that he had no desire to interview Rose. Any guesses which scenario?
OK, I'll put this as politely as I can -- you guys are in your own bubble of sorts, because you are of the 23% who see Keith as being vile, and your percentage always will. But among the other 77%, Fox News is a bit of a running joke, as is Bill O, as is Bush, as is Congress, as is FEMA, etc. And like it or not, that's just how things are for most people these days. And that is directly reflected in Bush's approval and country-direction poll numbers, tho you may choose to deny them. So when Keith says nasty things about Bill and Bush, most people are in agreement with him. Naturally, that doesn't translate into viewers, as most folks aren't into watching the news, in any format.
You can cling to the fact that Bill's ratings treble Keith's if you like, and that Keith is last in the ratings, but that doesn't keep Keith off the air, and it doesn't even come close to reflecting how most people feel about the issues he is biased about -- because most people agree with him. So when Keith comes out and calls Bill and Bush fascist-like, and throws a nazi salute to make a point, there IS no popular outrage like there is within your bubble. Among the 77% there's just mild bemusement, and a tacit agreement.
Hell, people have been throwing around the F(ascist) word since Bush took office, so there's no precedent-setting outrageous aspect to Keith's sieg heil salute -- despite how over-the-line Ailes may think it. People are pretty used to Bill and Bush being called fascists by now, it's been going on for years. So Fox and Ailes better cool it on the postured outrage, 'cause as Keith said, you never punch down, only up. And as I'm sure you all know, you can't even buy this kind of national press exposure.
So Fox News Channel, the #1 cable news network, is a bit of a running joke? Then what does that make Countdown? Seriously JayZ, you might want to click on the preview button before posting. It might save you from any further embarassment, like posting that 77% agree with pig Olbermann's nazi's salute and that he'll benefit from his swine like actions. Shouldn't the infamous and deplorable Keith Olbermann translate this into viewers? I mean, an awful lot of people seem to be watching the FNC, the #1 cable news network.
In summation, the preview button is your friend. Use it.
P.S. Who won that senate seat in California that was vacated by Duke Cunningham? Yeah, the country is soooooo upset with the republicans!
Perhaps your point would have more force, Pat, if you were to reference an election in a district not solidly republican/gerry-mandered as such.
ROBERT COXS....And I quote “I’m ( who ever the guy was hosting last ) I’m in for the vacationing K.O. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
READ THE DAMN TRANSCRIPT ROBERT COXS! Keith is on vacation ! We at Olby Watch don?t go around making stuff up. I know that?s hard for someone as pretentious as you and Keith to understand.
I am not sure what point is being made here but I did not write the post above. Are you upset with me or with J$ or what? And what is it that you are upset about, exactly?
I think it's the Olbermann fans who are in a bubble. They seem to think he is far more popular than he is and seem to think he's some sort of ratings God when the ratings clearly show he's got at best, a few hundred thousand viewers a night, when compared to Fox and even CNN. Lately he has managed only to best CNBC in the ratings game and is coming dangerously close to matching their lowly ratings in terms of unpopularity. Because his show slants so far to the left, they desperately want him to be popular but the facts just do not bear this out. Walk out on the street and ask 10 people who he is. I bet only about 3 can and I bet they remember him from ESPN, not MSNBC.

so what? OWs revel in Keith being last in the ratings. but Keith's still on, despite you guys saying every other day that he'll be fired/folding/self-destructing any time now. Keith's ratings are much less important than the President's -- which is why OlbyHaters are the ones in the bubble (among many other reasons).

not at all. we're not desperately in want of Keith being popular. and we don't think he is that popular. you are the ones that linger on every rating.
Riiigghhht. Keith doesn't linger on ratings at all. I mean, unless they benefit him.
Riiigghhht. Keith doesn't linger on ratings at all. I mean, unless they benefit him.
non-sequitur.
"OWs revel in Keith being last in the ratings"
No, OW revels in watching Keith obsess about his ratings, so much so that he repeatedly lies about them, inflating his numbers to preposterous heights, when in fact he is right where he was a year ago: fourth in a 4-way race.
If KO didn't keep lying about his ratings, we wouldn't have to keep correcting the record.

we were talking about:

Keith's fans are not desperately in want, that's you guys.
You know, you're right. We are desperately in want. We are in want of Olbermann to do his show in a fair and balanced manner instead of making factual errors. We want to see guests on who don't just merely parrot his opinions back to him. We want Olbermann to start telling the truth about his ratings instead of wildly inflating them.
"non-sequitur."
What, did you just learn a new word? You don't have to use it constantly, even when it doesn't apply.
"we were talking about..."
I don't care what YOU were talking about. In case you didn't notice, the article at the top of this page is what Olbermann Watch is talking about. And it's all about the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann lying again about his ratings. HE keeps bringing them up. HE keeps lying about them. WE respond with the truth.
"OWs revel in Keith being last in the ratings"
We ONLY brought up the ratings because KEITH brought up the ratings. Now perhaps you would like to defend Keith's new policy: don't just lie on Countdown, but lie when you give interviews, and lie when you talk to reporters. Make up fake "ratings" that show you climbing from third to second--when you're really fourth (and last). I have yet to hear one Olbypologist come up with a defense for his pathological lying.
the truth hurts, eh johnny dollar?

Anonymous (if that's your real name)-
You said that Olbermannwatch lingers on every rating, then I point out (rightly so) that Keith only lingers on ratings only when the benefit him. You call that a non-sequitir.
Hmmm...got a dictionary?
"You said that Olbermannwatch lingers on every rating, then I point out (rightly so) that Keith only lingers on ratings only when the benefit him. You call that a non-sequitir."
yes, that is a non-sequitur.
being a rightist, your thought processes are likely too fucked up to discuss this.
but when the following occurs, whether it's at OlbermannWatch or not, then yes, it is a non-sequitur.
Bob: I think Barry Bonds used steroids.
Ray: But McGwire used steroids too!
Wrong. The reason I bring up the ratings argument is because Olbermann and other news outlets falsely gin up the ratings. You say that OW is obsessively fixated on ratings, but ratings are routinely mentioned in nearly every Olbermann interview/feature.
That is hardly a non sequitur in my 'fucked up' thought processes. It's a rebuttal.
And thanks for calling me 'fucked up'. I'll take it to heart since it came from a leftist, who regularly chastise us rightists for not being sensitive, nuanced, inclusive, and non-judgmental.
Yeah,
O'Reily should hit that guy with a loofah! Ooops, I mean a falafel. Does anyone ahve a copy of those tapes? I have the transcripts but I'll bet the live recording is priceless.
My first comment here, I had heard that this was a fan site (and I wondered how someone like Olbermann could have fans) but guess they were completely wrong.
Anyways, Anonymous, why do you insist on using the word non-sequitor and completely ignore everything else people have said?
Olbermann says his ratings rank him 2nd and puts his viewership at 150-200k, which are both overstaments then when it is brought up here you complain that this site brings it up? Olbermann lied about ratings and don't give me the excuse that he wasn't sure, if he didn't know the exact stats then you don't bring it up, simple as that. (you really shouldnt mention stats anyways specifically)
The ironic thing is that he is worse than what he hates. Say O'Reilly is the worst person in the world (though I can't say either olbermann or o'reilly are, I don't hate either), Olbermann does the exact same things people critcize O'Reilly for. (lying about facts, being arrogant - not saying o'reilly is those things, but thats what most complainers say) Olbermann is a lyer and arrogant and I in some ways feel sorry for him.
I just hope that, not for show but deep down if he honestly thinks O'Reilly is the word person in the world, worse than Bin Laden, Hussein and others, then I have sympathy for him that his hatred is that deep. But I would say that he just hates O'Reilly so much because of envy, like BOR or not, his ratings are excellent and don't go down even with him not covering the Isreal-Lebanon crisis.
People don't like it when you point out the fallacies they use.
Well Poeple Like Puck and pat fegan and scooter. don't use falliecies they... HAHAHAHAHAHA I can't get through it sorry. OK they're morons.

Hay anonymous,
The word is "fallacies" and it was posted one centimeter above your wonderful work. I know you love to look left, but it is better if you look both ways before you leap.

Oooh!! Little Tommy caught a couple of spelling errors. isn't he so clever.
My work was pretty wonderful you are right. Now if you only had a centimeter of wit.
