I think we can all agree with the sage when he writes...
Don't say "Nazi" ever again in your life. There's no place for the reference in this culture. Not about the Republican tactics, not about the Democratic tactics, not about Guantanamo Bay. The Republicans are not the SS, and the Democrats are not the Gestapo, and Gitmo is not Buchenwald...
More over, this particular moment in our history is no time to pour more ice into the crevices of our national political discourse. We have enough of the makings of fighting in the streets, enough of the rancor that preceded the caning of Senator Sumner on the floor of the Senate in 1856, without people throwing the devils of the 20th Century into the mix.
In fact, it would be a really good idea, for the sake of the country,...to steer out of this skid of Party First and Country Second that now pervades both sides [and is] carrying the disease of branding other American leaders - no matter how wrong-headed some of those "others" might seem to you - with the same kind of vitriol that enabled the rise of the Nazis in Germany.
Stop it, stop it now, stop it for good.
Amen, brother

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Goebbels would be so proud.
Sieg heil Keef-o, you naszti hypocrite. Hollow words from an even hollower man.
Nothing could be added, except that the bush administration tactics are better compared to Stalin's than the Nazi's.
I couldn't agree more. The Nazis imprisoned people without due process, lied, tortured prisoners, bombed and invaded other countries, lied more, threatened to arrest members of the press, and "outed" their own covert agents.....Oh! wait, that was Bush.
Olbermann addresses Dick Durbin, Rick Santorum, and Robert Byrd in that post. He's being (gasp!) bi-partisan in his criticism!? How can this fit neatly in our pre-prescribed, daily Kanned Kriticism of Keith???!!!!
That's the only time he addressed Durbin too, in that blog entry. He never mentioned it on Countdown even ONCE during the entire controversy.
Olby Hater wrote "How can this fit neatly in our pre-prescribed, daily Kanned Kriticism of Keith???!!!!"
Quite easily as it turns out, since Keith was using one of his many parlor tricks in a pathetic and transparent effort to blur the distinction between the hideous words of Sen. Durbin equating U.S. troops with Nazis (among others) and those of other Senators who committed lesser versions of a remotely simliar "offense". In other words, he was putting out the party line on why what Durbin said wasn't really so bad because other people used the term Nazi too and so "everyone is doing it" and wrapping it up in a nice little "can't we all just get along" bow.
That may fly in OlbyLoonLand but even Al Jazeera was able to tell the difference.
touche, Robert. Well said. But to divert for a moment: Durbin's words hurt. They cut close and were shocking. BUT HE WAS RIGHT. Abu Ghraib was a despicable chapter in this "war" - one that warranted a strong rebuke from our side that the world would hear. Of course this was undercut immediately as the repubs jumped all over it, successfully diverting the issue and temporarily donning the badge of PC Word Police when it served them. That's how I saw it anyway.

Durbin is a disgrace! Abu Ghraib is a summer camp relative to WWII German death camps. Anyone who says otherwise is ill informed or like Durbin knows better and said what he said because he's a self serving ASS. Under the circumstances Durbin should be shot for TREASON along with most of the NYT and WAPO and LAT,etc.
I would volunteer for that detail!!!
"warranted strong rebuke" now i know who teaches conflict resolution. strong "rebuke"s are what the UNs for. those problem solvers.....Darfur,Rwanda.......
It's nice to see the best and brightest of the left weighing in here about how Bush is Stalin.
Your fifteen minutes of fame are over, Keith. Dumbass.
Olby Hater,
I am certainly not surprised that you and the folks at Al Jazeera are on the same wave length regarding Durbin's comments. Guess what, Durbin's fellow Dems were not quite so enamored with him going to the well of the Senate to lump American troops in with Pol Pot, Staling and Hitler. I know you don't believe it but we ARE at war and a sitting U.S. Senator (#2 in the Dem leadership) serving up that kind of fodder for Islamo-Fascist propaganda is not helpful.
Under the circumstances Durbin should be shot for TREASON along with most of the NYT and WAPO and LAT,etc.
scooter, there are over 50 million people who disagree with the President's war policy (give or take a couple million). Are we all traitors?
Are we all traitors?
Of course we are.
Scooter,
"Abu Ghraib is a summer camp relative to WWII German death camps". Is that right? I'm sure you know all about it, but Durbin was specifically talking about what the photographic evidence revealed, not the camp in general.

It's Not nice to see the dumbest talking about anything. but alas we get you.
Does that mean that 250 million agree with Bush's Iraq policy?
"We will submit legislation to the United States Senate which will…authorize the Congress to undertake judicial review of those signing statements with the view to having the president’s acts declared unconstitutional," Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, R-Pa., said on the Senate floor.–Specter’s announcement came the same day that an American Bar Association task force concluded that by attaching conditions to legislation, the president has sidestepped his constitutional duty to either sign a bill, veto it, or take no action.
Damn Liberals
If my nazi salute doesn't get me fired, my pathetic performance on Leno should. Seriously, I am sooooooo sorry.
I just want to say facts and evidence will, NEVER PERSUADE ME!!
To Can't shoot us all:Don't bet on it.

That's great except for one thing - Durbin was talking about Gitmo not Abu Ghraib.
Other than that another brillliant retort from the OlbyLoons among us.
