Thanks to J$ for pointing me to the most recent incarnation of this post. I could not find it because the URL was changed.
This is the original URL with the 1:19 PM time stamp:
The Ticker: King, Olbermann, Holt/Brown...
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/the_ticker/
the_ticker_king_olbermann_holtbrown_39526.asp
It is still on the Media Bistro server but is no longer listed on the TVN home page or in the archives (don't worry Brian I took a screen grab of that too). The archive now lists this post instead:
The Ticker: Greta, King, Holt/Brown...
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/2006/07.asp
That post is also available here (note how the URL has been changed but the time stamp is the same)
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/the_ticker/
the_ticker_greta_king_holtbrown_39526.asp
Longtime TVN readers know this kind of rewrite and manipulation of timestamps is par for the course over there but a word of advice to Brian - next time you are going to curry favor with Olbermann and MSNBC by taking down posts they don't like make sure to check ALL the files on the server first.
Now, what was that about your credibility being all you have?
Great, more stuff about TVNewser. Who cares if the site took down a link to another site which offers unsubstantiated claims? Is it really the cover-up of the century you're trying to make it out to be?
Actually, this is about Keith Olbermann and how TVN covers for him. I'm not making it out to be the "cover-up of the century". What I am doing is simply pointing yet another example of how TVNewser shills for MSNBC and does the bidding of Keith Olbermann. This is hardly the first time (recall his removing the link to the OW post about the Sileo email or Joe Hagan's critical article in The New York Observer after Keith bitched about it) and I doubt it will be the last.
No one told Brian to link to that blog but to put it up and then take it down under the pretext that the site was giving him a 404 error is worth noting, that he not only made this claim but removed any mention of Olbermann in the post and dropped the reference to the Grove column is also worth noting. That he then went back and manufactured an entirely new post with a completely different URL but using the same same data and time stamp is also worth noting. That all the while he was doing this the site (which was temporaily down on July 3) was up and running is also worth noting.
No one told Brian to trumpet his supposed integrity when it comes to his accuracy - or his supposed graciousness in making corrections. Who can forget his FAILURE to correct his erroneous transcript of the Factor during election week 2004? It's this type of selective integrity that I'm pointing out.
Seems to me that if you are going to put yourself out there as some kind of beacon of journalistic integrity you ought to at least ACT like you have some.
When you run TVNewser you can post and take down whatever you want. Until then, however, you can continue to whine about the happenings over there on this blog.
Taking down a site with unsubstantiated claims from your website doesn't discredit the site, if anything it makes it more credible.
I just checked TVN. I had gotten on him about his erroneous post about Joe Kernan and Aquaman on CNBC where he was cited as a source so now he is out there running megaposts rowbacking on what he said and his role in the false information ending up in The Daily News. I like how he says "But apparently the New York Post and the New York Daily News didn't get the joke" without noting that the joke was believing something on TVN to be accurate - and makes no mention that HE was the source for their stories.
And guess what, Brian will be on Squawk Box tomorrow with Kernan at 6:50 AM to discuss. Most likely some softball questions to make light of the whole thing.
I agree with you on that subject with TVNewser, just not when it gets into the partisan things (same with the problem you have towards wikipedia).
But in re-reading his post it seems to me like he knew it was a joke all along. I don't see your problem with the whole "Kernen issue."
Non,
My problem is what I said it is - that the NYDN based an erroneous story on his post, a story that Brian could have quite easily fact-checked by simply calling CNBC and asking them for comment. Obviously Brian knows this which is why he wrote the mega-correction today. If you don't think Kernan is unhappy about being portrayed as a fool in newspapers all over the country then you did not watch him this morning (I did). That kind of crap gets into LEXIS/NEXIS and becomes a part of the permanent record no matter whether it is true or not. Brian played a major role in that - just a couple days after patting himself on the back for his journalistic integrity.
I am just pointing examples of people who claim to have high standards and then apply them selectively (in other words they DON'T have high standards). At least we here at Olbermann Watch make no pretensions about standards. We have none. You read what we write and take it or leave it. And folks like your are free to slam us right back because we have open comments. Last time I checked TVN it was stricly a one way deal.
I can personally vouch for the accuracy of Brian Stelter.
Me Too!
Brian Stelter is a great and honest man.
Brian Stelter is a great and honest man.
UGH - did anyone see the top of TVNewser today? "Stay tuned for special 10th Anniversary MSNBC coverage all weekend." LIKE ANYONE CARES! This kid is OBSESSED with promoting that little network, it's so painful and embarrassing. Honestly, who on earth cares about the 10th anniversary of a 4th-rate network except people affiliated with MSNBC? It adds even more credence to the theory that he takes orders from them, seriously.
Man, that Aquaman movie sucked.
Go see Superman Returns instead.
