I am on the West Coast for a week of family fun in San Diego and Los Angeles. I will be heading to Phoenix tonight for a week there and then onto St. Petersburg, FL for a conference on online journalism ethics and then later that week to Chicago for the Society for Professional Journalists conference where I will speak on blogger ethics among other things. I am trying to check in on Olbermann Watch but spending time with the kids is the priority this week and and next.
For you GH, Desperate Housewives and CSI fans, you might be interested to know that a buddy of mine who works at Universal Studios where those shows are shot walked us all through the interior sets - living rooms, bathrooms, bedrooms. In the case of GH, the hospital rooms. We were later taken over to "the hill" where they have built the exterior sets for Wysteria Lane and watched them taping the show. We promised not to disclose any plot lines so you will just have to watch if you want to know what happens next on GH or DHW.
I wrote a piece for the Washington Examiner on my thoughts while traveling ranging from Lieberman-Lamont, SeaWorld, the UK Terror Plot and more. You can read it here
It begins...
When I left New York last week for a family vacation in Southern California, Sen. Joe Lieberman had just lost the Democratic primary in Connecticut and was preparing for his first day as an independent candidate for higher office...
Why is the terror plot still "alleged," even in the mainstream media (except Faux News of course, but they're not mainstream). KO's right on target with this one, or is it really coincidence that "terror plots" occur within days of a Bush downturn in the news cycle? Jesus - we're gonna be awash in terror plots if things go the way they'll probably go in November.
It looks like you can write (not well, mind you); I suppose you can read. Why are you so wrong?
"The only thing we have to fear is fear itelf."
THE NEXUS OF POLITICS AND TERROR
The nexus of politics and terror revisited. The British now insist no liquid bomb airliner attack was imminent, that it was the U.S. which pushed to arrest the alleged plotters last week, before and after which, the administration beat up its critics over counterterrorism. The first hint that the plot, while real, might not have been quite as real as it was being advertised came Thursday night, when TIME magazine reported that the alleged airline liquid bomb plotters were arrested by the British only after American intelligence reported chatter among them.
Then came the revelation that the British had the purported conspirators under surveillance for 13 months. Now we know, from senior members of British intelligence, that no attack was imminent, that those suspected had yet to buy airline tickets, and some of them didn't even has passports. British intelligence wanted another week, wanted to capture the man who was hoping to make a dry run, as he dry ran. Our government insisted on immediate arrests, and proceeded, both before and after them, to make every imaginable piece of political hay out of them.
No Dave, why are you so woefully uninformed. Do your eally believe the corporate powers-that-be in this nation would allow such a crippling blow to our airlines when they are all just struggling to stay alive these days if there was not a legitimate threat? Could you be so naive as to think that they turned a British Airways plane around that was headed to the US after an unclaimed cell phone rang on board? The terror threat is very real as we have seen in London and Madrid. I do not want another 9/11 in my country and if you're so big on supporting the rights of Osama Bin Laden and his crew might I suggest that you join him? Furthermore, your comment about Fox not being "mainstream" is pure lunacy. In case you haven't noticed, they kick major ratings ass on a nightly basis and far more Americans get their Fox than the other two cable news networks put together. Perhaps that is why we are well informed on the issues and you come out looking like the Olby-loon you truly are.
Slight error there, forgot to add "get their news from Fox" but I doubt it matters in the face of you idiots posting pictures of your Olby-Won here to worship. Could you tell me how Olbermann is being a fair and impartial newscaster in his above statements?
The nexus of politics and terror.....
Where can I find thata article... i would love to read it.
Johny Carson tonight show theme kicks in)
Good Day Ladies and Gentlemen......welcome to another exciiiiiting day oooooof misinformation lane.....where the right always get it wrong!!!!
Yesterday we visited Condi Court and gave you detailed insight in spewing of misinformation she has given over the years....it's almost given we will be visiting Condi Court again...probably on a weekly basis since there is so much misinformation she has puked up over the years......in a special two for tuesday event we stay on Condi Court and visit the home of Trickie Dickie Cheney...the old drunk has been in seclusion so we are not sure if he is at home or somewhere beneath the surface still trying to find evidence of an Iraq - Al Queda connection....please be forewarned, if he is home he may be armed.......anyway, we are going to try and not pick on Trickie Dickie to much, since he has a bad ticker and all, plus let's face it....does anyone really listen to hom anymore........hasn't he reached the "just shrug your shoulders, he's just a demented old man" status......we think he has .......anyway here goes.
By the way his home is being reconstructed by haliburton and it's about two O'clock in the afternoon and we don't see any workers.......looks like half the house is done.....the neighbor Mr. Wolfwowitz......said he hadn't seen anyone in about two months and the house has look the same...all torn up in the back and everything.....Colin Powell actually stopped by before the construction and told Trickie Dickie he would need a crew of thirty men to complete the job but he;s only using three.....anyway back to our fact vs misinformation...............
Quote/Claim:
"[Saddam Hussein] provided safe harbor and sanctuary…for Al Qaeda. [Source: LA Times, 9/9/04]"
Fact:
"There is no evidence Iraq and al Qaeda ever developed a collaborative operational relationship. - 9/11 Commission Report"
Quote/Claim:
"I think has been fairly significant success in terms of putting Iraq back together again…and certainly wouldn't lead me to suggest or think that the strategy is flawed or needs to be changed.” [Source: Meet the Press transcript]"
Fact:
"White House officials acknowledge that their post-Saddam plan for rebuilding Iraq has been substantially flawed on the security front. Some officials said privately that the plan for security after Baghdad's fall has been an utter failure.” - Washington Times, 8/28/03
A secret report for the Joint Chiefs of Staff blames setbacks in Iraq on a flawed and rushed war-planning process” in which officials, conceded in recent weeks that the Bush administration failed to predict the guerrilla war against American troops in Iraq.” - Washington Times, 9/3/03"
I guess I should take back what I said a while ago about ripped off Media Matters talking points being Orange Boy's only source of propaganda that he spews on Meltdown-- he uses Tom Tomorrow comic strips as well. My apologies.
Hank......I thin O'Reilly gets all his information from Fox Security....I think they're more covert than NSA or the CIA.........didn't Billy O say he saw no evidence of abuse at abu ghraib...I don't want to say for sure and make a false statememt.....but I'm almost positive he did....if someone can prove that he didn't, please let me know.......I don't want to misinform.
The nexus of politics and terror.....
Where can I find that article... i would love to read it.
--------
it's in the transcript from last night's show (starring Keith Olbermann).
about half way down the page.
the passage you seek begins, "No. 1, May 18, 2002, the first details of the president's daily briefing"
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14360348/
or you can watch the video here, while supplies last:

The problem with Lieberman's "denunciation of partisanship" speech is that he was the most partisan person in the primary race, and he's arguably making politics in Connecticut more partisan by trying to have it two ways.
I agree NonFactor...instead taking his ball and going home he is sitting in the middle of the field having a temper tantrum...holding the progress of the game.....he has been in politics for years.....he knows the game.....you win some, you lose some.....He took a stance, one he believed in and the people he represents didn't agree with him.......I think it is something he forgot as politician........you work for the people and you follow what the people you follow decide......as George Bush says...he is the decider.....uh no....the american people are.
Bushywushy writes:
"Fact:
'There is no evidence Iraq and al Qaeda ever developed a collaborative operational relationship.' - 9/11 Commission Report"
Bushwushy of course doesn't mind if you take a extra few seconds (like I did)to see whether this is all the 9/11 Commission had to say on this matter, because, without doubt, what Bushywushy has to say is the complete and total account of the 9/11 Commission's findings in this regard--- oops, it looks like we've got a bit more more to deal with here than our good friend Bushywushy was willing to let on:
"Both the Times and the Post based their reporting on a single paragraph, written by the staff of the September 11 Commission, which conceded a few ties between Iraq and Al Qaeda but said there was no "collaborative relationship" between the two. The findings, revealed in the commission's last hearing on June 17, were preliminary, and the apparent rush by some in the press to deny any Iraq-al Qaeda relationship left commission vice-chairman Lee Hamilton baffled. "I must say I have trouble understanding the flack over this," Hamilton told reporters. "The Vice President is saying, I think, that there were connections between al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein's government. We don't disagree with that. So it seems to me the sharp differences that the press has drawn, the media has drawn, are not that apparent to me."
" Now, with the release of the commission's final report, it is clear what Hamilton and Cheney were talking about. The final report details a much more extensive set of contacts between Iraq and Al Qaeda than the earlier staff statement. It also modifies the original "no collaborative relationship" description, now saying there was "no collaborative operational relationship" (emphasis added) between Iraq and Al Qaeda. And it suggests a significant amount of contact and communication between the regime of Saddam Hussein and the terrorist organization headed by Osama bin Laden."

Bushywushy also claims:
"didn't Billy O say he saw no evidence of abuse at abu ghraib..."
I don't remember seeing this but it's possible. What I do know is that when O'Reilly takes positions like this, he is not afraid to debate anyone who wants to challenge his opinion. And Orange Boy? Well, how many times have we seen the nightly ritual of circular ass kissing between Orange Boy and his litany of sycophants (John Dean, Richard Wolffe, Jonathan Alter, David Brock, etc. ad nauseum)
didn't Billy O say he saw no evidence of abuse at abu ghraib
-----
actually, i think the big giant head said that about Guantanamo -- which he visited. and just a day or two after BillO visited, that's when they had the recent multiple-suicide day. makes perfect sense. you can only take so much waterboarding, but BillO definitely qualifies as cruel and unusual punishment.
HAnk.....I just read the article you linked to...interesting...seriously.
However, I have read the 9/11 commision report cover to cover and I remember it distinctly said there was no connection in various paragraphs.....but, if there is a new edition that contends this than please forward me a link and I would be happy to read it....I mean it.....I did make a statement and if I am wrong I will retract it.......the only way to prove this is of course to link me the passage in the book.......I look forward to it...
see was that so bad......Hank and i are having a discussion......see no insults, no baack handed slaps to the ego......I hope it continues.
As For Billy O - you are right he does bring people on to debate, but what I see is a consistent case of interrupting Bill O making his point.....more interupting-Bill O making his point...than he gives them the last word...interupts during the last word.....and then gives a short commentary of why they are wrong and the person who he just debated is no longer on the air to defend him(her)self........
Anon-hilarious post.........
yeah, the bitch in the burkha AND the brat were wired...should've capped 'em both...now THAT would make the cartoon relevant.....
The nexus of politics and terror.....

However, I have read the 9/11 commision report cover to cover and I remember it distinctly had no places for coloring the pictures ....but, if there is a new edition that contains this then please forward me a link and I would be happy to color it....I mean it.....I did make a statement and if I am wrong I will retract it.......the only way to prove this is of course to link me to the the passage in the book.......I look forward to it...
What I do know is that when O'Reilly takes positions like this, he is not afraid to debate anyone who wants to challenge his opinion. And Orange Boy?
debate is not the format of Countdown.
never has been.
long past time to get over it.
Where is my lover Nick......someone please take this broomstick out of my ass.
Yoo-hoo, you know who out there, you know, YOU. Meet me at the gym like last night for, you know! Silly!
Great, more cartoons. How pathetic must it be not to be able to have a serious discussion with facts & figures not totally pulled out of your ass and have to resort to cartoons to express yourself? It's even more pathetic that they think that if they hijack this board with their silliness, that we'll all just throw up our hands and give up, close up shop and stop criticizing their (ill-informed and biased) hero. But that is not going to happen as long as Olbermann continues his hour of spin and disinformation. In the end, they reveal themselves to be the utter idiots they are and lose their own argument in their attempt to be "clever" and "funny". Oh, you're funny alright, just not in the way you intended.
Morgan........bash bash bash bash..........wow someone with a small brain(like most of you) would've stood up and said........RIGHT ON!!!!!!!
Let's take a looksee here and see what Morgan was trying to say-
Great, more cartoons. How pathetic must it be not to be able to have a serious discussion with facts & figures not totally pulled out of your ass and have to resort to cartoons to express yourself?
First off, I believe....and this is solely based on what I've read...some of you asshats will only understand a cartoon.......and the so called figues pulled out our asses...well if they are nothing but fluff....prove them wrong.....c'mon Morgan be like the little train that could.....you can do it....I think I can I think I can I think I can.
Silliness- where's pick...last time I checked he had a broomstick in ass....he must like that sort of thing....isn't Nick helping him.
Hijack the board so you will fold- please don't ever leave, I haven't had this much fun since I saw Star Wars.
KO spewing misinformation- As opposed to whom Rush Limbaugh?
Morgan- put your diaper back on....you're shitting aLL OVER YOURSELF!!!!
Anyone see my gerbel?
wushybaby, you always bring the level of discourse down to a level that you can manage, which is about knee-high. Try again...
wushybaby, why so angry? the short bus leave you behind again?
Here gerbel gerbel.....here gerbel gerbel.....here gerbel......Oh O'Reilly where are you???...here gerbel here gerbel.
it's gerbil, quit embarassing yourself further.
hey man, leave BUSYWUSSY alone, he can't be so stupid to try and post as someone else. wait. nevermind, he is.

since the British terror suspects were under surveillance for over a year, they would not have been allowed anywhere near an airplane. as a result, they were being surveilled for two reasons: to gain evidence for their eventual arrest and to identify co-conspirators. looks like the Bush admin screwed yet another pooch by rushing the job for PR reasons.
once again, if it's not a failed policy coming out of the White House (i.e., let's invade iraq, and legalize torture, and obstruct stem cell research, and ignore katrina) -- it's the failed implementation.
culture of incompetance. culture of corruption. culture of clueless.

Reality based Humor:
A Conservative and a Liberal are walking down the street and see a homeless guy. The Conservative gives the guy his business card and tells the man "call me about going to work", he then reaches into HIS pocket and hands the man $20.
This impresses the Liberal. And they continue walking along. They soon come across another homeless man. The Liberal says he'll help this guy out. So the Liberal gives the guy directions to the welfare office. Then he reaches into the Conservatives pocket, pulls out a $20, keeps $15 for amninistrative costs and gives the homeless guy $5.
Thats Liberalism.

Blah, blah same old song and dance. You sound scared about the VERY REAL TERRORIST THREAT is going to hurt at election time. Its a shame your more worried about an election than death cult ambitions. I heard some of the info on that plot was gleaned through torture, to that i say YEAH !! As for Katrina Myth:
From Popular Mechanic study:
GOVERNMENT RESPONDED RAPIDLY
MYTH: "The aftermath of Katrina will go down as one of the worst abandonments of Americans on American soil ever in U.S. history."--Aaron Broussard, president, Jefferson Parish, La., Meet the Press, NBC, Sept. 4, 2005
REALITY: Bumbling by top disaster-management officials fueled a perception of general inaction, one that was compounded by impassioned news anchors. In fact, the response to Hurricane Katrina was by far the largest--and fastest-rescue effort in U.S. history, with nearly 100,000 emergency personnel arriving on the scene within three days of the storm's landfall.
Dozens of National Guard and Coast Guard helicopters flew rescue operations that first day--some just 2 hours after Katrina hit the coast. Hoistless Army helicopters improvised rescues, carefully hovering on rooftops to pick up survivors. On the ground, "guardsmen had to chop their way through, moving trees and recreating roadways," says Jack Harrison of the National Guard. By the end of the week, 50,000 National Guard troops in the Gulf Coast region had saved 17,000 people; 4000 Coast Guard personnel saved more than 33,000.
These units had help from local, state and national responders, including five helicopters from the Navy ship Bataan and choppers from the Air Force and police. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries dispatched 250 agents in boats. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), state police and sheriffs' departments launched rescue flotillas. By Wednesday morning, volunteers and national teams joined the effort, including eight units from California's Swift Water Rescue. By Sept. 8, the waterborne operation had rescued 20,000.
While the press focused on FEMA's shortcomings, this broad array of local, state and national responders pulled off an extraordinary success--especially given the huge area devastated by the storm. Computer simulations of a Katrina-strength hurricane had estimated a worst-case-scenario death toll of more than 60,000 people in Louisiana. The actual number was 1077 in that state.
Theres your culture of corruption the media lies and rumors about Katrina and you bought everyone of them you poor sad "Usefull Idiot"
Defending Krazy Keith is such a lost cause that the Olbypologists don't even try. Instead they change the subject
yes, how dare they talk about real issues.
making patently imbecilic accusations about an entirely different cable channel--the one they hate because it dares to present all points of view.
absolutely, FOX definitely presents all points of view, fairly and balancedly.
That spin does not work with the clear-headed readers of Olbermann Watch.
yes, OlbyWatch readers are certainly clear-headed. and it's just that type of clear-headed thinking we have to thank for all the success in New Orleans, and the success in Iraq, and the success of the senior drug program, and success of the five trillion dollar deficit (which used to be a five trillion dollar surplus failure).
"which used to be a five trillion dollar surplus"
uhhhhhh? you wanna explain that one. i expect not, since making up facts is easier and more effective.
Perhaps you are confusing debt and yearly deficit. For example, the clinton years saw some yearly surpluses, but the overall debt stayed trillions of dollors in the red. We may see yearly surpluses now and then, but the overall debt will NEVER see black again. NEVER!
Also, i think we are more than five trillion in debt, but i'm not sure.
"yes, how dare they talk about real issues"
there is nothing wrong with talking about the issues.....at talkabouttheissues.com. THIS is olbermann watch. So why not talk about..oh... i don't know.....OLBERMANN!!
JD cogently observes:
"Defending Krazy Keith is such a lost cause that the Olbypologists don't even try. Instead they change the subject."
To which the prolific Anonymous brilliantly replies:
"yes, how dare they talk about real issues."
Anon, let's consider the import of your reply. You don't attempt to refute JD's observation that the criticisms of Orange Boy here on this site are on the mark and that Olbyplogists, recognizing this to be so, do not even attempt to defend him but shift the arument to the "real issues". Instead, the tack you take (which, in my time of reading and digesting the weak attempts of loons to defend Orange Boy, is new to me) is the following:
The blatant partisanship and lack of opposing views on Meltdown is inconsequential and is not a "real issue".
We are not concerned about the fact that Orange Boy and his network promote Meltdown as an objective "newscast" with Orange Boy as "anchor" because it is not a "real issue"
We are not concerned with the pathological obsession of Orange Boy with Bill O'Reilly to the point of exhibiting deviant and deranged behavior against religious minorities in the service of grinding his personal axe against his more successful and superior competitior Bill O'Reilly because this is not a "real issue".
Anon, the clear thinkers here at OlberMannWatch disagree with you to the extent that we believe that these are "real issues". It does matter whether one holds himself out as "not political" and yet openly cheerleads for one side and constantly disparages the other. The word for this sort of behavior is "propaganda".
We do not disgaree with you that the other matters you mention (Hurricane Katrina response, the war on terror, the federal budget deficit) are "real issues". The point is, Anon, there are many outlets on the web for pouring out your views on these weighty matters. Here at OlbermannWatch the focus is on the clownish Orange Boy. What do you have to say about Olbermann, pro or con?
