It should come as no surprise to Olbermann Watch readers that Keith Olbermann is defending Bryant Gumble's right to publicly disparage his employer and not be fired after causing a firestorm with comments directed at the outgoing NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and NFL Players Union chief Gene Upshaw. Olby has gone on many similar benders - attacking collegues at ESPN, slamming MSNBC during his first stint there, undermining Fox Sports in regards to the Rupert Murdoch-owned Dodgers, attacking colleagues and bosses during his current stint at MSNBC. He was shown the door at ESPN, MSNBC and Fox Sports and, in what can only be a matter of time, will likely suffer the same fate at MSNBC II.
Tim Graham at Newsbusters pulls this gem from KO's remarks on ESPN Radio:
"I don't think I'd consciously go out and ever give information I knew not to be true, deliberately."
SHOCKING!!! You mean a liberal is siding with a black person in claims that the man is unfair and racist and black people deserve to be given more money?!!!?! I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!!!
I know it is unusual Orion, but of course in this case Bryantt is right, because after all, it's mostly black people who do all the "work" in the nfl, running around catching footballs and making up clever tribal celebration dances, while whitey only does EVERYTHING THAT ACTUALLY TURNS THIS INTO A PROFITABLE ENTERPRISE.
You can't expect keith to lay off a story that combines unions, black people screaming racism, and sports. Heck, just throw in Dick Cheney and an underaged Jewish girl and old keefie's head would explode.
It was just a matter of time before Gumball would slip. He could make as many racist remarks against white people as he wished and get away with it. But when he bit the hand that feeds him, that was the end. BTW, Olbermann is also showing himself to be quite the hypocrite, isn't he. I thought such a kind hearted, compassionate liberal would have condemned a racist like Gumball long ago. Libs are such phonys. Sickening!
NEVER,NEVER trust a liberal
I think Bryant is married to a white girl, too.
There's a difference between "defending" someone and saying they have a "defensible positon".
Of all of the player's unions in professional sports, the NFL's is the weakest. Has been since the 1987 player's strike. That, combined with Tagliabue's aggressive and pugnacious personality, would put any union rep in a bad position.
Was Bryant Gumbel's choice of words poor? Yes, just as Al Campanis' and Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder's made poor rhetorical choices. But the underlying point that the NFL Player's Association is docile is true and would be true regardless of who was it's President (while what Campanis and Snyder said were blatantly false).
I believe the point is..
"Don't shit where you eat"
(while what Campanis and Snyder said were blatantly false).
Uh, if I remember right Snyder said that black people tend to have larger thigh muscles which if you ask me is as true as that their skin is black and you can't see them in the dark unless they grin.
Is there no end to the political correctness?
Who knows if Olby will ever show up to work again. He's out again tonight. Maybe he's at odds with management yet again. Or is it another meltdown?
nick, you crack me up. :D
Those last two were great monkey faces. You can picture David Scheister saying "ee ee ee" and Matthews saying "aaaaah!"
The next challenge is to capture them throwing their own feces.
"During the slave period, the slave owner would breed his big black with his big woman so that he would have a big black kid—that's where it all started." - Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder, stating why he believed that African-Americans were superior athletes (Snyder was fired by CBS shortly afterwards).
Asked about the lack of a significant number of blacks among the ranks of baseball management on the ABC program that night in 1987, Campanis said that "they may not have some of the necessities to be, let's say, a field manager or, perhaps, a general manager." - Al Campanis on a special edition of Nightline celebrating the 40th anniversary of Jackie Robinson's major league debut (Campanis was subsequently fired from his job as General Manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers).
Olby, Matthews, Shuster, Gregory, Williams, Russert and the rest of MSNBC/NBC is an embarrassment.

Night after night these hack journalists made up the news of the day.
Rove and Cheney arrest and perp walk is imminent....lol.
Speaking of white males being fired for making controversial remarks about race, here's the one you missed Anonymous:
"I don't think he's been that good from the get-go," Limbaugh said. "I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. There is a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."
Like Jimmy the Greek and Campanis, Limbaugh lost his job as a commentator. So, how come the "let him have the freedom to speak" standard doesn't apply in these instances, yet Olbermann rushes to defend Gumbel? It seems especially hypocritical when you compare the cases of Limgaugh and Gumbel side by side because both men are known for being lightning rods and you know what you are getting when you hire either one of them. In fact, the "you know what you are getting" defense is being trotted out for Gumbel by hypocrites like Olbermann, but this defense doesn't fly when it's Rush because . . . well, it's just different because we can't have Rush Limbuagh saying those kind of things, don't you know.
Also, you notice how Mel Gibson makes offensive remarks about Jews and it's news around the world, but when Olbermann flashes the Nazi salute, the symbol of hate against the Jews, and is admonished for it by the ADL, tries to makes a joke about it on Leno AND, unlike Gibson, NEVER apologizes or even acknowledges this outrageous offense, Olbermann gets a pass from the MSM. I know that some of the different treatment is that Gibson is a huge star and Olby is a last place bufoonish cable talk show host, but the fact that there is no outcry whatsoever for Olby's act is another example of the MSM excusing behavior for some that it would not tolerate for others.
I already understand the futility and nihilism involved in the notion of responding to any point of contention made by any poster on this site...
There is this thing called satire. I understand that people who are judgmental, prejudicial, and generally functionally illiterate may not understand the nuances of anything, let alone a device in action. But surely, if you've studied the history of this great nation, with any sort of focus on our culture and our courts, you may have stumbled across Falwell vs. Flynt. Or you may have seen "The People vs. Larry Flynt". Perhaps instead of noting how well Courtney Love plays an addict, you could have gleaned something about Freedom of Speach. In particular, the fact that the First Amendment protects speach that some may dislike or find offensive, even the strictest constructionist has to concede that.
Olbermann mocking O'Reilly by making allusions? Sure it's not for everyone. What's more amusing is that all the prejudicial and judgmental and spiteful folks in the world who so despise the idea of "political correctness" suddenly embrace it as if they conceived it when the jokes on them.
But, I stand by my blanket statement:
There is nothing to be gained from reading this sycophantic drivel. The most pathetic element of this entire site is in it's shear stupidity.
There is no discussion with discourse or debate. There is nothing factual being stated. There is no argumentative viewpoint supported by facts. All prose contained herein on this site and in this blog is petty name calling. Pathetic.
I would hate to think that any of you believe yourselves to be Christians or upstanding representatives of the Christian community. Jesus, were he not emphatically dead, would have nothing to do with you, your non-causes, or your tactics. All you do is call people names. Your only impetus is immature and empty.
You are pathetically consumed by hatred. You dislike something, so you have nothing better to do with your time than to obsess over it and make pithy comments about it? How stupid. How irresponsible. How lazy.
Try doing Jesus a favor, can you handle that? Go do something productive and humanitarian with your time. Try some altruism.
Sarah, why don't you do yourself and us a favor and spare us the Sermon on the Mount. You tell us that we're consumed by hate but you turn right around and accuse us of being stupid, irresponsible and lazy. Nice. You're just like your hero Olbermann. You preach to others about how they should act and turn right around and do the same exact thing that you're decrying someone else for doing. Sorry but you won't win anyone over with your "logic" using these kinds of tactics.
The overwhelming arrogance you come to this site with is really quite something to behold. You suggest it has no right to exist because it criticizes Olbermann. I guess if it was a pro-Olbermann site you'd have no problem with it would you? So tell me, do you believe that there should be no anti-Fox News, O'Reilly, Coulter websites out there as well? Are you making long-winded, pretensious, preachy posts at those types of sites decrying their existence and begging them to do Jesus a favor and cease and desist too?
Yeah, I thought not.
speaking of honest discourse, i would like to know what ya'll think of the following: "Charles Black, a longtime GOP consultant with close ties to both the first Bush administration and the current White House, said branding Islamic extremists as fascists is apt. "It helps dramatize what we're up against. They are not just some ragtag terrorists. They are people with a plan to take over the world and eliminate everybody except them," Black said."
does the right really think that islamo-fascists want to take over the world and eliminate everybody except them? because Bin Laden's stated goal has always been U.S. WITHDRAWL, not world domination: "Bin Laden issued a 1998 edict that Muslims should kill civilians and military personnel in the United States and allied countries until they withdraw their forces from Muslim countries and from Israel."
the reason i mention it is because i think this is an important point of contention between the right and the left, and that it may be responsible for much of the polarization in this country right now. because if you consider the right's belief that islamo-fascists are imperialist -- rather than anti-imperialist, as viewed by the left -- it's understandable how adamant the right is about the global war on terror. know what i mean? (even tho i know this is off topic here at olbermannwatch, is anybody interested in a civil discourse about this? especially since SaraH says there isn't any here).
And I believe Hitler claimed he was just reclaiming "lost" land when he invaded Poland too. Do you honestly think Bin Laden and his ilk are trustworthy and that you can trust what they say? Oh, never mind. You people think Olbermann is a Journalistic God the likes this country hasn't seen since the days of Edward R. Murrow. Sorry but Bin Laden can't be trusted, there is an assault on this country by the Muslim-extremists and no, Olby is no Murrow.

Yes, I really believe that, Leo. Totally honest. Even a blind man has to admit that they at least want to wipe our friends Israel off the face of the map. Many of these extremist leaders are calling for a global caliphate. I'll get you some quotes. They ain't whistling Dixie, Leo. They mean it.
Has anyone been monitoring TVNewser today?
First, Brian Stelter whines about the NY Post and NY Daily News noticing the same thing he did, and presents absolutely no proof that they ripped him off:
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/site_announcements/credit_where_credit_is_due_42949.asp
Second, Stelter, who pumped up Olbermann's numbers when he finished second in a demo he thinks is important (http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/q1_06_msnbcs_olbermann_beats_cnns_zahn_hlns_grace_in_the_demo_34504.asp), has been completely silent about Olbermann's fall to fourth place in the more-important total viewers category, and third in TVNewser's demo.
Lastly, this 20-year-old kid tries to turn the attention to Fox (http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/aug_s_oreilly_no_longer_1_in_the_demo_hannity_colmes_tops_the_factor_42967.asp) to divert away from Olbermann's decline.
Who does Brian Stelter think he is fooling?
Here is a poll question I would like to see:
"Do you think CNN internet polls are worth the pixels that they are printed on? Do you think idiots who cite CNN internet polls as "proof" have their head partially or completely up their ass?
"Do you think CNN internet polls are worth the pixels that they are printed on? Do you think idiots who cite CNN internet polls as "proof" have their head partially or completely up their ass?
it's just one more drop, in an inconvenient ocean, of boots-on-the-ground reality for you to be in denial of, numbskull.
WHAT IF BUSH REALLY WAS ASSASSINATED?
In Death Of A President, which has caused outrage in America and will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival this month, the shooting is a starting point for a fictional documentary about what happened next. So what would happen if President Bush was assassinated? The assassination of John Kennedy at the height of the Cold War hadn't led to Armageddon in 1963, so why should things spiral out of control now if a president was murdered? That confident view was shattered as global communications networks froze from overload while transmitting round the world the picture of the 43rd President of the United States slumping forward after being fatally shot in the stomach. The crude dum-dum bullet fired into the President's stomach that November day caused fatal bleeding and the media were reporting the suspected assassin's details within minutes.
At home and abroad, the gloating over Bush's death soon gave way to a sober realisation that he had actually been a check on Dick Cheney's ruthless way of defending America from enemies at home or abroad. Executive orders authorising detention without trial of citizens as well as aliens suspected of 'terrorist affiliations' and closing America's borders were signed off with astonishing alacrity, as were military plans to strike regimes that had celebrated Bush's death.
'I thrive on crisis,' Cheney explained, 'it was peace that got me tense.' Occasionally he was short of breath, but Cheney even turned this to his advantage. Images of President Cheney in a wheelchair at Thanksgiving 2010 were carefully choreographed to recall Franklin Roosevelt in charge of the war effort 70 years earlier. For an embattled America and its allies, this endless war, with its relentless suicide bombings, anarchy in countries all over the globe and brutal reprisals, became known as a 'clash of civilisations'. But how much worthy of the name civilisation remained to be defended?
Rought Row. Somebody actually stole puppet-master Cheney's idea of killing the boy-chimp and ascending to the thrown himself.
The Thrown? Sorry, I believe you meant "throne". The Thrown would be what has happened to the Dems in the past two presidential elections.

Note to self: shoot Cheney FIRST.
