Olbermann Watch, "persecuting" Keith since 2004

    September 19, 2006
    MSM KO Bandwagon Example #163

Will the Kooky KO Fan Klub known as the lefty members of the TV Critics Association ever get tired of carrying KO's water in their pathetic attempt to help Keith advance his liberal agenda while posing as "journalists"? Apparently not, judging from Ray Richmond's dose of OlbyLove in today's Hollywood Reporter.

In it we learn that Keith is...

...a lone voice of reason in a world gone mad

...a zealous polarizing force as a journalist who wears his heart in plain sight

...the second coming of Howard Beale (ed. "the mad prophet of the airwaves") immediate sensation in the video download universe

...the most compelling news personality of his generation

...a charismatic, righteously indignant force of nature

and, most improbably... enemy of the state.

    Keith writes

    ...impassioned, acerbic essays

    that are...

and, of course, what KO LoveFest would be complete without the BIG LIE:

"Olbermann's household numbers are up 73% in the first two weeks of September from August."

You know? If you stacked all of KO's supposed ratings surges on top of each other his would be getting more viewers than American Idol and Survivor. Of course, we all know that Keith remains mired in 4th place in a 3 network race (behind Fox, CNN and Headline News).

This line from that piece sums up Keith very well: "I just think maybe I'm first in voicing skepticism of the administration that's been irrationally muted"

Some people might think that he is only being half-serious here but clear-thinking readers know (sadly) that he is TOTALLY SERIOUS. Keith actually believes that he is saying something NEW and that "skepticism" of Bush has been muted. Has he EVER watched a White House Press Conference? Jeez. More over this is actually a put down of others in the media because according to Keith they have "failed" and their "failure" to express skepiticsm of Bush is "irrational". They have failed AND they are crazy. All I can say is Pot, Kettle, Black.

Claims like this might help explain why my pal Tony Snow said (prior to his current gig) that you could "fit Keith's friends in a phone booth".

TVNewser: Olbermann: "The Most Compelling News Personality Of His Generation"

Posted by Robert Cox | Permalink | Comments (33) | | View blog reactions

Maybe these KO lovers are from Bizzro world or the Mirror universe of Star Trek..where in those worlds KO is a top rated news reporter that is listen to by millions of fans....unlike the real KO whose a 4th place partisian hack, who can only generate buzz for himself by getting the word out to ultra leftwing bloggers who still can't get anyone to watch him.

Overstating it with, "the most compelling news personality of his generation," this article is pure crap. If Olbermann is so compelling, why is his guest list mostly "B-listers?"

The show does not draw a lot of viewers, he is not even on network television, and his interviews are mostly with second and third tier personalities. When he starts getting people like Hillary, Kerry, Edwards, etc, consistently, then I will admit, he has become the uncontested outlet for his liberal cadre.

If he finally allows dissent on his show and gets interviews with the likes of Cheney, Rumsfeld or McCain, then I will respect him as a real journalist. This will never happen, but The TV Critics Association has to admit his content is pretty sparse. Give me a break!

KO is a waste of time. I'm done posting here. I thought I would be getting paid as I have blogging here fulltime.

Maybe I can get paid by MSNBC for watching Keith's show. Anyone have any ideas how I can make a living at this?

I watched countdown for like 30 seconds last night, then switched to Bonanza. Where is my check MSNBC?

Why do I believe that in the circles that Olbermann travels and associates with that it takes more courage to say that Bush is NOT a fascist than it is to state that he IS a fascist?

Would someone like to dissuade me of that thought? Really, does Mr. Olbermann risk anything with his denunciations of the current Administration? Ostracism, criticism? Read the media reviews of his show like the one posted above. Cotton candy criticism.

The level of poverty of discourse in American increases every time Mr. Olbermann issues a special commentary. It's called (to borrow from Moynihan) defining dissent down.

    Way down.

Olbermann isn't even a man. He is about as immature as a 10 year old. Watching Harry Reid lean on something Olbermann said, makes the democratic party look weak.

And why is it that no one is questioning his sudden rash of "special comments" and the fact that his book was published at the exact same time?

One houre and 45 minutes before god takes the air. KO we speak your name... praise Keith

Hey O'leilly, why doesn't your boy go up against someone from the other side like "Billo" does on a regular basis? Mr. O'Reilly even has blow-hard Reverend Al on regularly.

Coward Olbermann should ask the likes of Tom Delay or Pat Buchannan to debate if he is such a powerful diety!

    Excuse me, I meant, "O'lielly"

On Dan Patrick's radio show today, Olby mentioned that at the time, he was wearing pajamas and an overcoat. TMI! Dan asked him why, and Olby told him he was doing a "national magazine" shoot for an upcoming article and that some type of award was involved. Olby said he mimicking some type of Howard Beale character. I just can't wait for that issue of the "national magazine" to hit the newsstands. It ought to be a real scream.

Yes, it takes true bravery to criticise the Bush Administration if you're a journalist.

Surely there's a Profile in Courage Award with Keith's name on it...

Howard Beale my ass, Peter Finch got an Oscar. Keith deserves derision only.

I'm waiting for the urban commie hit squad to pop up and blast away his sorry carcass.

It'll be his greatest...ratings...EVER. (In reruns, of course.) Maybe he can watch it on a loop in hell.

KO's special comments have rocketed him into a solid 4th place showing on Monday.

Why do you wingnuts worry so much about someone you cannot stand that is in fourth place in the ratings... afraid of him ?

If Olby got an award from a national magazine, then the magazine must be "High Times."

Wow your bias has certainly got in the way of objectivity. It would be easy to do the total opposite with this article. According to the article KO is......

    Bush-bashing tool of liberal propagandists

    zealous polarizing force

    over the top

Yes maybe his essays are "devastating" judging by the the amount of time and effort you spend debunking them. I think you would agree that he is "the most compelling news personality of his generation'. You've dedicated a whole site to him. I hope you can at least accept the ironic nature of your KO fan site.

I need a break, can some clear-thinker please address Nod Scenes silly comment.

TVNewser trumpeted this article today, predictably.

Olby's essays have been devastating - to his ratings.

One wonders how long Olby will be allowed to continue to foam at the mouth without producing any ratings increases for the network. I love the spin on the "he's up from this time last year" propaganda. What they fail to mention is that Olby is now regularly coming in dead last behind O'Reilly, Zahn, and Grace. Network wide, the documentary block also regularly beats him for most viewed program on MSNBC. And those docs are so much more infinitely cheaper to produce.

Sorry Bob, didn't see your post above.

Nod Scene, I know that since you get your news from Keith you're sadly misinformed about any number of topics. You see, Keith and his followers live in a land devoid of things like facts and reality. So naturally they think he is some sort of journalistic God. But "God" doesn't allow anyone on his show who might present a contrary opinion, reality can't be allowed to intrude on your little special universe now can it? "God" also doesn't correct blantant lies and misstatements on his show, but gleefully goes off on anyone else on any other network who does, never mind said networks almost always correct THEIR mistakes. With Olby and his fanatical followers, it's always a case of, "Do as I say, not as I do." I believe in general paralance, that's called being hypocritical. Why does Olbermannwatch exist you ask? To bring together clear thinkers of this world who delight in poking fun at the so-called "intellectual" leftys in the world who aren't half as smart as they seem to like to believe they are since their theories and "facts" are so easily debunked here on these pages.

And now I have a question for YOU: If Olby is the "Edward R. Murrow" of his generation why is no one watching his show? And why is OLbermannwatch a far more popular website than Olby's own little blog?

I find it interesting that while I joked about Keith straying into Howard Beale territory in the thread about Monday's show, Keith and his admirerers apparently are planning to wholeheartedly embrace that image, judging from the Hollywood Reporter's story.

Of course, Keith's probably thinking about Beale speaking truth to power and then becoming a martry when he's gunned down for his courageousness at the end of "Network". The part others might see as more relevant was that Beale had awful ratings and was fixing to be canned when he went off his rocker and started delievering sermons that captured audiences as much for their train wreck quality as to what was being said.

Keith's got the wacky commentary down, but he doesn't yet have that "Invisible Bugs Are Climbing On My Skin!" manaical on-air presence that will pull viewers over from the other channels to watch a televised meltdown five nights a week.

You need to rent Network and watch it again.

Beale was encouraged by his network to do his rants as way of inflamming the masses and increasing ratings. As Beale starts to do hit pieces on the television industry and upon his own audience, and as his grasp on reality becomes more tenuous, his ratings slip and the network plots Beale's on-air murder in order to score big ratings and to get rid of him.

Howard Beale for all his craziness had an honesty, naivetee and nonpartisan aspect to his character. Olbermann has none of this. He ain't a Howard Beale. He's a narcissistic control-freak with a partisan ax to grind and his own television show. He's savy enough to know exactly how to play it with the network.

Cecelia: I think you left out: egotistical blowhard. Otherwise, an excellent description of who and what Keith Olbermann truly is.

I love "Network". I own it on DVD and have watched it many times.

This is not correct: "As Beale starts to do hit pieces on the television industry and upon his own audience, and as his grasp on reality becomes more tenuous, his ratings slip and the network plots Beale's on-air murder in order to score big ratings and to get rid of him."

Arthur Jensen is angry with Beale for revealing that the Arabs are buying CCA which owns the network. He gives him the "primal foreces of nature speech" which closes with:

"The world is a business, Mr. Beale; it has been since man crawled out of the slime. Our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that perfect world in which there's no war or famine, oppression or brutality - one vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock - all necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused. And I have chosen you, Mr. Beale, to preach this evangel."

When Beale proceeds to preach Jensen's vision for the world is when his ratings drop and the plot to kill him live on TV is hatched.

Just because I love it, let me put the entire speech here along with the audio. If you have never seen this film I urge you to read along as you listen to the mp3.

Jensen: You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale, and I won't have it!! Is that clear?! You think you've merely stopped a business deal. That is not the case. The Arabs have taken billions of dollars out of this country, and now they must put it back! It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity! It is ecological balance!

You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multi-national dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, Reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels.

It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today! And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU WILL ATONE!

Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale?

You get up on your little twenty-one inch screen and howl about America and democracy. There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM and ITT and AT&T and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today.

What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state -- Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do.

We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business. The world is a business, Mr. Beale. It has been since man crawled out of the slime. And our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that perfect world in which there's no war or famine, oppression or brutality -- one vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock, all necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused.

And I have chosen you, Mr. Beale, to preach this evangel.

    Beale: But why me?

Jensen: Because you're on television, dummy. Sixty million people watch you every night of the week, Monday through Friday.

Beale: I have seen the face of God.

Jensen: You just might be right, Mr. Beale.

I remembered the Jensen thing and characterized it as an attack on the industry.

Didn't Beale attack the small-mindedness, or swallow nature of his audience too (which didn't help his rating either)?

Anyway, John at 10:34 AM sorry to correct you when my bit about network was clear than I interpreted your's to be.

I remembered the Jensen thing and characterized it as an attack on the industry.

Anyway, John at 10:34 AM sorry to correct you when my bit about network was less clear than I interpreted your's to be.

    Cecelia --

No problem. My main point was Beale was suffering from a mental illness and the network took advantage of him. Keith and his people seem to forget the first part, and simply jump right to the "truth to power" bromide of Beale's commentaries (and isn't it going to be fun to see how Olbermann handles Hugo Chavez's speech to the U.N. on Wednesday during tonight's "Countdown". Hugo kind of upped the ante on Keith, as far as the red meat content any 'special comment' will have to contain to fire up the left from now on).

At least they are reading the same books. Did you see Chavez waving around that Chomsky book at the U.N.

When you see that, you have to wonder how the Dems thought that hooking up with Cindy "Hugo Lover" Sheehan was a good idea.

    Brandon-- thanks!

John-- You're right. Chavez has upped the hyperbole factor. I think The Oracle is up to the challenge... :D

Olbermann was labeled a "progressive newscaster" at The Huffington Post. I think we ought to be breaking out the champagne here. The more widely used that lable becomes the better. Finally truth in advertising!

The Mark Foley republicans really show their true colors with the constant references to gay sex. It is the demons of sexuality that haunt them. Guns and hunting, race cars and trucks are the safe subjects. They clam up when the conversation gets analytical fearing that others might get a sense of the secrets they hide within. These are the people that become the Jeffery Dahmers of this world. The bulk of serial killers come from the white southern protestant world of uncle rape and sexual demonization. Homophobia is literally about survival in their world. The attacks on personality types like KO's are common though out their social circles. Anyone that says it how they see it is a threat to them. Gay bashing is the logical response and done purely in self defense!
