St. Pete Times' TV critic Eric Deggans spoke with Olbermann on Friday and produced yet another OlbyLove festival which credits KO for his "Edward R. Murrow moment" and accepts at face value Olby's inversion of history by claiming Rumsfeld channels Chamberlain.
Keith provides Deggans with the intimate details of how he prepared the modern equivalent of the Gettyburg Address and provides this nugget:
"I am loath to wrap myself in the flag, because when I see other people do it, my stomach gets turned," said Olbermann Friday. "But...what does this country stand for? And what is Don Rumsfeld trying to get us to change when he says something like he said?...The more they try to accomplish the oldest trick in the book - scaring people into abandoning some of their liberties - the more people will say, 'Hey, wait a minute.'"
Just in case you have not had enough, Deggans provides a "condensed" version of KO's "Murrow Moment".
Is that the paper that O'Reilly said was the worst (most far left) in the country? If so, that explains everything.
So Keith gets nauseous in face of opinions that differ from his own, and now we learn he gets tummy trouble from those who speak of patriotism. Or maybe those two things aren't so different after all.
Someone should send him a bottle of Pepto-Bismol.
St. Pete's also home to the Poynter Institute, which focuses on media and is home to Jim Romenesko's Media News, one of the main sorces of insider news and gossip for the industry. Keith is a frequent e-mail writer to Romenesko's feedback page (http://www.poynter.org/article_feedback/?id=45 if you want to browse the site), so it's not surprising that you'd have a St. Pete Times media critic keeping close tabs on the doings at "Countdown" and trying to tout it to the paper's readers -- which given the viewership of the show and the fact it's not a new show is a bit of a waste of trees.
Olbermannwatch.com can focus on Keith's actions, but the Internet allows for narrowly-focused sites, and if Deggans had a website/blog of his own through the paper where he works he could focus on things that are only of interest to inside baseball types. But rehashing Olbermann's latest diatribe when neither what he or what the show is doing is new or has attracted any significan bump in viewership over the past four years is simply tilling at windmills for a pet cause that your readers have had plenty of time to sample but have rejected. He could better serve his readers by using his limited newsprint space to cover shows/people the readers might actually care about.
Why is an ex-sports commentator's opinion on patriotism any more newsworthy than the opinion of the person who serves my breakfast at Cracker Barrel?
If he doesn't improve his standing in the ratings, Mr. Older-man may very well be serving me breakfast in Cracker Barrel in the future.
Yeah but Barbra Streisand and Sean Penn give their opinions on all things political, and you know how newsworthy ( and important ) that is!!
Actually, Deggans has a blog.
"The more they try to accomplish the oldest trick in the book - scaring people into abandoning some of their liberties the more people will say, 'Hey, wait a minute."
Global warming!!!! We are all going to die!!!!
We will run out of oil in ten years......

Stop trying to scare me. That Hitler guy seems like a nice fellow. Let's wait too long to enter this WWII so that we can lose 500,000 men as opposed to entering early and lose much much fewer.
Liberal think always seems logical, at first, until you actually think.
So Olbermann wrote a commentary. Big deal. O'Reilly writes one every night; it's called "Talking Points".
When Keith opines, the left acts like he's Moses coming down from the mountain, with words to live by. But I'm sure Keith's words were not those of God.
spud has more on ICN...
I added a comment over there

"scaring people into abandoning some of their liberties "
And the liberal/left complain that Bush hasn't made us "sacrifice anything" (usually read as higher taxes but the idea of property rights to the left is a no-no).
And they also complain that Bush hasn't made us any safer; indeed, they say we're at greater danger now than before 9/11 due to the incompetence of the White House.
Can someone please figure these folks out for me?

OWW POST REMOVED HERE
Oww you can't spam your site with 1,000 words "comments". I do accept GUEST POSTS so if you would like to submit your piece as such just send me an email. I have left up ONE version of this "hilarious" bit here: http://www.olbermannwatch.com/archives/2006/09/path_to_911_-_o.html#28604 but the other three (so far) are being removed.
It's not a "speech" issue, it's a "Clutter" issue. If you really want everyone to see what you wrote the GUEST POST route is the better one to take.
I am fascinated by your obessession with the estate tax.
Did Mommy and Daddy cut you oout of their will?
"I am fascinated by your obessession with the estate tax.
Did Mommy and Daddy cut you out of their will?"
Are you nuts?! But they could die any minute, and if the estate tax isn't revoked I'm going to lose a bunch of my money, which will jeapordize my ability to spend all day outing the nefarious, mendatious Olberman for the hideous mangled sub-human beast that he is.
I do not think you are truly committed to "outing the nefarious, mendatious Olberman (sic)".
When your parents do die, and even if you are cut out of their will, will you go their funeral or watch Countdown and report on his nefariouos mendacities? This is not a TRICK question!!!

I will go to their funeral of course. But the very next day I will be back fighting the unspeakable evil that is the disgusting, nefariouos (sic), revolting, appaling (sic) Mr. Olberstinkpot. And If I have to make up a limerick to do it, well, so be it. I will do this every day until I die.
I'm sorry but that's not good enough. You are dismissed.
"scaring people into abandoning some of their liberties "
liberals have been using THIS tactic to negate the second Ammendment for over forty years.
They have been also using this tactic to raise taxes, push unjust and unconstitutional laws, and general fearmongering for decades.
as for the estate tax I want to know what right does the government give itself to steal the accumulated wealth of a family? They tax every other damn thing at the state, local and federal level and now they want to punish a family even in death itself. You are right maybe we should just put and IRS office at every graveyard and funeral home to make sure these families are not depriving society and the state. Sounds more like socialism every day- the needs of the state supercede the rights and needs of the family and individual.

LOL, that's exactly what I was thinking! Does he etch his "special" comments in 24 karat gold? Will there be a "Worst Person in the Biblical World" edition available to Olberfanatics?
