the main duffernece between Coulter and Rhodes is Ann Coulter is right. Talk Radio has long been dominated by the Right Wing, and yes, yes they are successful. So what is so wrong with an experiment in Left Wing Talk Radio? Did Air America bite off more than they could chew? Probably. And so they declared bankruptcy. Big Deal...Delta has declared bankruptcy, is it because no one is flying? Donald Trump once declared bankruptcy, is he a bad real estate developer? No. Bankruptcy is not the end of the world, nor might it be the end of Air America. To take pleasure in another's misfortunes, to gloat and strut and mock them...well, that's just plain sad. You all have my pity.

I know exactly what Air America did wrong:

1. They went for the New York market. They could never, ever of competed with the giants WOR & WABC. No starting-out radio station could. They are monoliths when it comes to talk radio.

What they should of done: Went to Chicago, Michigan, or Fort Lauderdale, or Seatle, or Philadelphia. Start in a much more loose market.

2. Another reason that they should not of made New York City a permanent home: There are notenough places for the signal to go out of.

What they should of done: The same answer to point for 1. The thing here is, when they had their 1190 signal (or better) and were near a source of water, their signal carries farther, creating a fan base in another area, making it easier to get attention from radio listeners from other cities and affiliates there.

3. Al Franken should not have "went up" against Rush Limbaugh alone.

What they should of done: They should of divided Al Franken's spot in 3 different parts. Al Franken does day, 9 until 12, some other person does an hour during 1 o'clock, and Randi Rhodes starts up from 2 until 6 o'clock. Something like that.

4.Nobody countered Michael Savage on WOR.

What they should of done: Mike Malloy should have went up against Michael Savage. He would be perfect. Not to mention the fact that Mike Malloy always had half-a-day on icy days.

5.They rushed production for affiliates.

What they should of done: They shouuld of launched Air America once WLIB was established. It all just came way too fast to be successful for a longer period of time.

I do not understand why it is over for Air America. Al Franken was in the tenth spot, and Randi Rhodes was in Ninth place, nationally!

I have to admit, liberal talk shows are a hard sell. Most of them just aren't that entertaining, and most of the truly entertaining ones (Stephanie Miller, for example, and Ed Schultz) are not part of Air America, I like Al Franken, but a lot of Air America's shows are simply bellicose ramblings similar to Rush Limbaugh. I'm sorry, but if you can listen to an hour of Rush Limbaugh, you can't be a very interesting person. Unfortunately, the same is true if you can listen to an hour of Mike Malloy. That sort of thing works better for conservatives than for liberals because more conservatives are bellicose jerks who only want to hear their own opinions echoed back to them.

I've heard that Fox News wasn't profitable for the first three years, and Air America has had to carve out its own market with a lot less resources, and considering the determination that they've shown, I'm sure they're going to stick around in some capacity, even if they're only going to be a streaming internet operation.

Because they lost 41 million $ in two years and every time anyone looked at the books they were certain that they would lose 41 million more. The conservative talk hosts have made their names in different ways, but they have grown their shows by making money for the affiliates that carry their shows. Plain and simple. Lots of listeners = lots of ad $. High paid amateur hosts who don't get ratings don't make advertisers swoon. If Franken had gotten 20 million listeners, he would have had the same advertisers that Rush has beating down the Air America door.
