The left giveth and the left taketh away - at least if you are Keith Olbermann. Reports of KO's misogynistic tendencies are well-documented:
- his deplorable remarks about a female colleague at ESPN
- his smashing an Ann Coulter doll to pieces on air while cackling maniacally
- his characterization of Rita Cosby as "dumber than a suitcase full of rocks"
- his incredibly vile references to Ann Coulter as a [slang for part of the female anatomy
- referring to Lindsay Lohan's mother as a "bag"
- there are at least two websites deveoted to discussing nothing but this very topic - and those are from his FANS!
Keith's latest transgression against the fairer sex?
Making a coarse sexual reference to Hilton, mocking her report of a criminal assault, and running the tagline "A Slut and Battery" throughout the segment - and it has raised eyebrows even on the left.
Fish Bowl NY (with video):
Yes, you heard Keith Olbermann correctly. In case you missed it, here it is again:
Paris Hilton claims she was punched in the face yesterday morning at a nightclub in Hollywood [pause] 'Course she's had worse things happen to her face ...
And yes, that is what he meant. Also note MSNBC's "A Slut and Battery" graphic — perhaps Page Six wasn't so Olber the line with yesterday's unflattering Olbermann sex story after all.
...there is something really unseemly and misogynistic about that particular phrase - not only is it stunningly inappropriate for MSNBC and Olbermann (the recent holier-than-thou voice of America Wronged, lest we forget) to throw that label on anyone, but particularly in the context of a claim of assault, which diminishes the seriousness of an assault charge and suggests that assaults on 'sluts' are less worthy of serious consideration....a vile reference, and completely beneath what Olbermann holds himself out to be. Not exactly what one would call an Edward R. Murrow moment.
Raw Story picked up the HuffPo piece, generating hostility from some of the OlbyLoon commenters.
Becky at Relevant Torture has up a terrifific post on Saint Keith of Secaucus:
I was waiting for something like this, for all of those recent KO converts to discover Keith isn't the saint Left Blogslyvania is making him out to be. To wit, this unattributed bit from yesterday's Huffington Post.
