Always ready to fish around for ways to work KO into any story, MSM'er James Poniewozik of Time magazine takes the occassion of Fox News' 10th Anniversary to work in a little KO promotion:
...the Fox gestalt of insouciance, attitude, and even playfulness—has had a bigger effect on the news media than any Bill O'Reilly rant. Fox taught TV news that voice, provocation and fun are not things to be afraid of. And for better or worse, probably every TV news program outside of PBS has been Foxified by now...Keith Olbermann ranting at George W. Bush and O'Reilly on MSNBC's Countdown: that's Fox through and through, whether Olbermann would like to admit it or not.
Newsbusters: Time Magazine Critic: Blame Fox News for Olbermann's Lunacy.
Hot Air: Time critic blames FOX News for Olbermann's whacky behavior
The Cable Game: "What Hath Fox Wrought?"
The only person Olbermann can blame is himself.
k.o. is his own worst enemy. it's not too hard to see why watching someone selfdestruct every night, whining about and bashing his competitors, while offering only one "absolute" viewpoint on the news, doesn't really make for much of a thought provoking or entertaining hour-

How is Keith's behavior odd ?
An actual transcript of Olby's last visit to his psychiatrist:
OLBERMANN: Listen, I am Olbermann--do you hear me, Ol-ber-mann, the Olby-dude, the Olby Wan Kenobe, the Big "Do Not Fuck with Me Media" Icon-- nobody tells me what to do and nobody tells me what to say ( well- except for that bullshit about my producers "making me" do stories on my badder than bad ass show, but, hey those stooges don't mind if I blame them so the audience don't know I'm really into TomKat and Amercian Idol). Anyway, where was I-- oh yeah, I was talking about the right wing Bill Frist loving Nazis. You'll have to excuse me --I don't think my meds are balanced out quite right today, but man that Xanax gives a hell of a buzz, it does make me kind of agitated and grumpy though. For some reason when I pop about 4 or 5 of those Xanax tabs I'm just cruising for about 3 hours, then the buzz wears off and I start to get depressed and think about my stupid miserable life-- I'm all alone, everybody hates me, I have to try so hard to act cool-- good God, what I doing?
I'm almost 50 years old and I'm throwing papers all over the set, making "here kitty, kitty" noises, and Ted Baxter voices to O'Reilly and-- O'Reilly . . . O'Reilly . . . O' Reilly . .. that, that . .. that . . .man, he is trying to get me! I saw him ducking down behind the hedges outside the studio. I know he has something to do with those e-mails I wrote getting out there. You know, those ones where I told someone to "Kill themselves" I'll bet that Karl Rove put him up to it. Karl's still mad at me you know for saying he was gonna get indicted. I know he watched my show. Everybody at the White House does. They like to say they watch that wretched Fox news, but they just say that to soothe the right wingers.
They really watch me though-- and why wouldn't they? I'm edgy and hip and Lord knows this administration needs an infusion of hip. And I know how hip is done, baby. Just look at my demos for the 18-34 age group. Pretty bad ass, huh? Yeah, they really dig it when I start getting into my personal stuff like when I started spitting up blood in the trashcan when I had cancer and talking about my mental problems. It's like I'm inviting them into my living room and everybody can be my buddy. Not that I need any buddies. I don't need ANYBODY . .NOBODY, GODDAM IT! The OLBY doesn't need anyone. I'll tell everyone to fuck off or fuck their mothers, fathers, whoever. Just don't fuck with me !!! I'm not afraid of anyone-- well, except (dont' tell anybody this, you gotta promise) except that O'Reilly. He intimidates the hell out of me. He's got so many fans and he seems like such a natural in front of the camera and I'm so stiff and dopey-- I just can't do it like he can. I wish I could just admit my insecurity instead of hiding it by going off on those idiotic tirades I go off on about O'Reilly and "Mister" Bush.
I know I look like such a moron. But you know, there are some viewers that like that kind of stuff-- you know, the presidential election was rigged, Rove is getting indicted stuff. They think I'm "brave" and "keeping it real", so that's pretty cool. But they're idiots-I just keep this stuff going because the slackers who watch me like it-- do you know how hard it is to sit there night after night with a straight face and act like David Schuster and Dana Milbank are serious commentators on the the issues of the day? Lord, I've gotta do something else before I get cancelled. Have you seen my numbers? they suck . . .
I must be good at something.. You know, I'm in the Baseball Hall of Fame. That's right I am. O'Reilly 's not in the Hall of Fame, that wussy. Let's see him name even 10 of the third base coaches I compiled on my list. Now that's really something . . . Oh are we out of time today, doc? Hey listen doc, my employment situation is a bit. . .um, unstable at the momement, and you know I've got some bids in on e-bay for some really bitching baseball cards that I just gotta have, so could I, like, pay you next time I come in? Thanks, doc, really appreciate it, Hey, I need a double refill on the Xanax if you could. Great, thanks.

Yeah, let's ban him from the airwaves. That's the American way!! Get rid of free speech for all those that disagree with us!! And fuck civil rights!! And fuck black people!! They brought Katrina down upon themselves. God is vengeful and he does not like gumbo!!
I'm a god-loving conservative!! And I'm so happy that our blessed country is finally going down the path of righteousness.
It is ridiculous that this site even exists when the majority of it is character bashing rather than discussion over what is being said by Olbermann. But time and time again that's what I have seen from the ignorant people of our country. They character assasinate and skew our perceptions without offering many, or often embellished, facts. When speaking of political commentators such Olbermann you seek to ignore his message of accountability in our white house. Conservatives should identify best with this. After all, they are supposedly against big government's involvement in our lives. Your elected government is seeking to strip you of your freedoms in order to "protect" you from an unidentifiable, openly defined threat. This threat is being used to target our own people, not just al Qaeda or other terrorist organizations. Hold them accountable!
Now we have evidence, through a leaked document, that is telling us we are creating the very threat we wish to combat. Many of us have known this was the case for quite some time, using common sense.
I ask for true conservatives to help us fight to preserve our rights set out by our constitution. If you love this country and what it stands for than you will recognize that our biggest threat right now is our government and its recent expanse of powers. We cannot ignore Habeus Corpus, doing so gives more reason for those outside the US to hate the US.
Olbermann may have his faults, he may be all the things you say he is, egotistical, whiny (which I believe to be false), but at least he has the guts to say what 67 percent of americans have been thinking. That this Bush administration is failing us, domestically and through its foriegn relations. In my opinion, it is responsible for pushing a fear-based society we live in today.
I can only hope that people start to ignore the character assualt that is being spewed at us from the media (which is by no means "liberal"). It is through common sense that we as a nation will have an awakening. And no, not the spiritual awakening that Bush has talked about. Rather, an awakening from an imposed state of illusion. The illusion is that under this Bush administration, we are safe. We are not safe.
I leave a link here to a Time magazine posting. It is a soldier's letter from Iraq. Any american should read this, especially those who participate in sites like these.
