UPDATE: I was linked by Drudge. Hehehe!
Some folks seem to like knowing when I write non-Olbermann Watch stuff so I am linking my latest Op-Ed for The Washington Examiner: When will the right recognize the cost of conceding Web 2.0?. In it I relate my experience over the past several years watching my friends on the left build and control most every "node" in the emerging Web 2.0 to the Michelle Malkin/You Tube controversy and how that is just the leading edge of a very broad sword which liberals are using to cut conservatives out of the online national dialog.
Reax:
Newsbusters calls it a "must read" and says "In today's DC Examiner, Olbermann Watch blogger Bob Cox sounds the alarm against what he (correctly) perceives as the conservative movement's failure to sufficiently become involved in creating the next generation of the internet"
The National Review calls it a "must read" too. Hmmm. Then you had BETTER read it!
186K is not so sure about my the premise for the piece.
Outside the Beltway says " I don’t see how it much matters who invents certain technologies."
The Real Ugly American says "I don't know if his fears are well founded or not but it certainly bares (sic) more attention."
You rightwingers should stick to abacuses and sundials, leave the technology to those of us who are capable and emracing the future instead of ruing it. The grim reaper is here waiting for you.
"The grim reaper is here waiting for you. "
But not for you O'Liely. You're given free uncensored reign to reveal your despotic little soul.
Cecelia.. Despotic,, because I am an unbeliever ? I do not believe in Satan,, or multiple gods or L Ron Hubbard or any of that stuff. TRhere is tremoundous power in dealing with one's reality and not living in a miracle based world.
The recent attempts at Columbia to suppress free speech are going to be mirrored by the ultra-left secular-progressives on-line. Stalin's old dictum "no person, no problem" will be updated by these google techno-autocrats to "no content, no problem."
O'Liely,
I couldn't care less that you're an atheist.
You're despotic because you want to silence political opponents.
silence.. really how so ? I could easily go to one of multiple leftist websites if I did not want to read opposite thought from my own.
Don't let O'lielly get you off track. The issue here is youtube has gone to political censorship to get rid of Michelle Malkin and others that are on the right. If youtube/google is going to act as a political arm of the left wing, maybe there will have to be an alternative. Kind of like what Fox News has done for cable television.
Christ, Lie- don't you EVER leave? You're on at night, you're on the morning, you're on in the afternoon... don't you have a LIFE?!?
I'm at school (checking emails between ConLaw and Evidence) and I thought I'd peek in... and YEP! There's LIE spouting off as usual.
It's not as if you don't provide the sometimes necessary comic relief (every show/site needs a "Kramer") but Sweet Georgia Brown- go outside once in a while. Fly a kite, or take a walk, or whatever it is you godless liberals do for fun.
Can't you find a rent-a-mob to join and protest something else?
O'Liely,
Then you didn't understand the gist of Bob's piece when you exulted over it.
Malkin was pushed out of youtube because they don't allow the freedom of speech that you enjoy here.
Nowhere do I support youtube getting rid of any political speach. We are stuck into a two party system in this country and America is not better because of it. I happen to think that Malkin is a nutjob,, like you folks think people on the left are nuts. We need multiple parties in this country, now that many of both parties have moved further out on the idealogue concept we need far more people to do what is best for the American people not their political party. Do you ever see me supporting any democrat... the last one I had any respect for was Dean in the run-up to the 2004 election. And for you Lawstudent steve.. I am here at odd hours for short periods of time because of the nature of what I do for a living which is a home-based business and I have been doing for 20 plus years.
O'lielly says with his usual candor and wit-"Lawstudent steve.. I am here at odd hours for short periods of time because of the nature of what I do for a living which is a home-based business and I have been doing for 20 plus years.
yeah O'lielly I reckon the presures of having your worm farm and and home based colostomy bag repair business must really cut into the time you can spend on sites like this demonstrating what a moron you are. it's OK we all know what a moron you are you don't have to keep trying to convince us.
Maybe that's the problem Mister O'leilly. Maybe you need to get out more and see the real world and get out of your own insular little liberal world. Stop getting all your news and views from the young communist website. Or do they even let you out? I cannot see somebody with your obvious lack of mental skills going out into the real world.
For you O'lielly posting here must be like you pissing into the wind. You must give yourself a nice warm feeling allover but everybody here is just laughing at you.
I wonder if the grand high poobah of liberal nutzos the vainglorious, pompous olbermeister himself posts at this website? If so this O'leilly person(?) sounds the closest to what I would imagine conversing with his olbermannship would suffer to be like.
I wish you continued success with your worm farm and repair business Mistah O'leilly with your personality , or rather lack of it, I can see why nobody would choose to work with you. Maybe you can branch out someday and grow to become the guy that picks up the dogshit in the park and maybe you can even make some new friends.
O'lielly says:
"Nowhere do I support youtube getting rid of any political speach."
Besides the obvious fact that you spell and construct sentences on a third grade level I would also like to add - yeah well who the f**k are you to support what youtube has on their website?
He also injects his stunning wit with:
" We are stuck into a two party system in this country and America is not better because of it."
Let me take a wild stab at your choice of party affiliation, either communist or socialist. Well thank you Che friggin Geuvarra! How many of those tacky Che shirts do you own Mistah O'leilly?
It ceratinly folows that you would choose Howard "eeeeeaghhh" Dean as role model for your poltical ideology. Dean condemned the Republicans for their lack of (ahem) "diversity" at their convention saying that the only minorites at the convention was "the help" yet Howie from Vermont had ZERO minorites in his cabinet for all the years he ruled his little liberal utopia in the northeast. But hey at least he gave the Green Mountain State the first ever gay civil unions so I guess in myopic liberal eyes homosexuality trumps hypocrisy.
"Malkin was pushed out of youtube because they don't allow the freedom of speech that you enjoy here."
Last I checked, YouTube was a privately-held company that had the right to set the boundaries of what is "acceptable" content.
They don't HAVE to show anything - they CHOOSE to. If you don't like what they show, there is a button marked "report abuse". USE IT instead of hand-wringing about "suppression".
O'Liely,
Well, then I've mischaracterized you and I'm sorry.
I agree with you on your approach to speech and I'm glad you're around here.
"there is a button marked "report abuse". USE IT instead of hand-wringing about "suppression"."
Nice sidestep. The solution to the right dominating talk radio isn't to shut it down, it's to create an alternative. But I don't blame you for the suggestion. If you had a strong hand you wouldn't be so keen on shutting down communication from the right.
Apologies, anonymous, for the snark.
I agree with you, and Mr. Cox, that if YouTube is playing leftie politics with its business the right needs to develop an alternative. As you say, YouTube is a private business and can do what they wish within the law. If they choose to delete all criticism of the left, Islamist fascists or Bozo the Clown they are within their rights. Where I disagree is with a 'tit for tat' response - shutting down discourse is bad and increasing it doesn't make sense as a response.
Guess what? I've been linked on Drudge.
It's up there right now - lefthand column, near the words "YouTube".
That is a MAJOR score...and my piece is now #1 on Examiner.com which means it is also on the home page. Very cool.
Awesome, Bob. That's great news. It is a great article.
I'm not surprised, Bob.
You've developed an issue here. It's not some half-baked hyperbolic screed based upon political squabbles and conpsiracy memes.
With facts and reason, you've done what Olbermann has tried to fake.
Bob,
Did you know that your piece was mentioned at The American Thinker website?
