As for KO's ratings being up, we have observed on this site that KO's ratings have been up. We have also noted how KO's pals among the very liberal membership of the TV Critics Association of which David Bauder is a member in good standing go to great lengths to exaggreate Keith's "success". In this most recent case, Bauder apparently picked a day or week right before Labor Day which is traditionally the lowest HUT week of the year and then compared that to the single highest rating night that Keith has ever had to draw his conclusion. We caught MSNBC inflating KO's numbers in an email to Peter Johnson of USA TODAY who then used MSNBC's manipuated data to make the false claim that KO's ratings were up 33% when they were actually up only 9%. Bauder is doing the same thing here.

We here at Olbermann Watch are not concerned what ratings Keith gets or does not get; we are concerned that they are accurately reported and when they are not we will note that. If you think that this site is unhappy with the increased attention Olbermann has been getting you are nuts. What is good for KO is good for Olbermann Watch.

Mr. Cox... I respect the fact that you think dissent is welcomed here. But, when you use terms like "Olbyloons," that's not welcoming dissent. Bob, on the Friday preceding Labor Day 2006, Sept. 1, Olby got beat by the National Heads Up Poker show. He broadcasted live that night, BTW. His demo was 99,000. If they are using this day's ratings data as a comparison, this is how they superinflate the ratings gains.

I think you are exaggerating the "language" issue when you take issue with my use of the term "OlbyLoon". The language in most corners of the blogosphere is much harsher than that. Are you REALLY that offended by my use of the term?

"Welcoming" dissent does not mean I agree with everything posted on the site, that I will not mock Olbermann apologists who post here or that I am responsible for what others post to this site in the comments section. What it does mean is that I am not going to prevent people who disagree with me from posting on this site. As regular readers know, I rarely edit or delete comments and even more rarely ban commenters and when I do take action it is because people - left or right - are being dramatically disruptive or spamming the site.

The reason for that is simple - and somethiing I touched on in my Op-Ed for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram - that I believe in the notion of a marketplace of ideas (you will note Keith once again lifted material from me in his quote at the end of the AP piece). If I believe in myself and my views I ought to be willing to articulate them under my own name, to expose them to criticism and take whatever heat may come.

I do not have any respect for people who come to my blog, attack me or the site and hide behind the anonymity I grant them. They are free to do that but do not expect me to respect them for that. People who do this for the purpose of "defending" Keith or challenging my supposed attempt to suppress his speech are, by definition, OlbyLoons.

Yesterday, I went to a site mentioned here run by "Colorado Bob", called Thank-You-Keith-Olbermann.

I posted some comments that, while dissenting from the majority of those on the site; were respectful (ie- no profanity or name calling). Within MINUTES, my posts were yanked.

When I tried to post again (asking why were my comments removed) I received a message that I was BANNED by the webmaster.

I do not doubt that if you pick a really low night a few days before Labor Day and then pick the highest night Keith has ever had you will find an increase. In the USA TODAY piece Peter Johnson relied on fake math from MSNBC (their OWN numbers showed an 18% increase even though the headline they sent to Johnson said "33% increase". Johnson never bothered to check the numbers and simply ran MSNBC's phony headline. In Bauder's piece he does not provide us the base number but if he used August 30 (the day the KO piece ran) and compared it to Monday then the 69% is not untrue (as was the case with the USA TODAY piece) but simply misleading.

The fact is that you can use the ratings data to make any argument you like. This is an old trick. So the AP does a 10 year anniversary piece on Fox News but focuses only on the last few months of rating to claim "Fox News ratings declining" when, in fact, from where they began ten years, their ratings are through the roof. Then they turn around to spin a story on how KO's ratings are up 69%. My only interest is when KO or the KO-friendly media do this to advance their agenda.

I really wish those who come by and take cheap shots will stop, breathe and then go and read some of the thoughtful discourse in previous posts. With the exception of the baned riverdog, it has been pretty nice lately.

It would be of great value to continue to have a dialogue as a nice contrast to Mr. Olbermann's show. Dissent is greatly encouraged at OW and yes, it can get heated. Yet, Mr. Olbermann never allows dissent on his show and overlooks facts and news developments that are not in step with his ideology.
