Predictions? Who got Predictions?
OlbyWatch Election Predictions (we will close this when the polls begin to close)...
For all you regulars commenters, let's have some fun today. Copy/Paste this list into a comment box and fill out your predictions. I did my best to pick a bunch of races I thought folks would be talking about. If I missed your favorite race then let me apologize in advance.
For scoring purposes we will do it like golf where the lower your score the better. You get +1 for every point you are off in the house/sentate "pickup" question. And +1 for every race/ballot initiative you get wrong. Lowest score wins. Anonymous comments will not be counted so please identify yourself. The winner gets their choice of an evening chatting with Mark Foley on AOL Instant Messaging or an all-expenses paid trip to see John Kerry do stand up at the Improv in L.A.

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again
Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger's hand
In a...desperate land
Lost in a Roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah
There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the King's highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby
Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake...he's old, and his skin is cold
The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here, and we'll do the rest
The blue bus is callin' us
The blue bus is callin' us
Driver, where you taken' us
The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...fuck you
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
On a blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
C'mon, yeah
Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill
This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
It hurts to set you free
But you'll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die
This is the end
We are ready to face Karl Rove and the administration and we are scared to death.
It is expressed best below. Hoping we do not see this tomorrow morning.
HOW THEY STOLE THE MID-TERM ELECTION
by Greg Palast
for The Guardian (UK), Comment
Monday November 6, 2006
Here's how the 2006 mid-term election was stolen.
Note the past tense. And I'm not kidding.
And shoot me for saying this, but it won't be stolen by jerking with the touch-screen machines (though they'll do their nasty part). While progressives panic over the viral spread of suspect computer black boxes, the Karl Rove-bots have been tunneling into the vote vaults through entirely different means.
For six years now, our investigations team, at first on assignment for BBC TV and the Guardian, has been digging into the nitty-gritty of the gaming of US elections. We've found that November 7, 2006 is a day that will live in infamy. Four and a half million votes have been shoplifted. Here's how they'll do it, in three easy steps:
Theft #1: Registrations gone with the wind.
On January 1, 2006, while America slept off New Year's Eve hangovers, a new federal law crept out of the swamps that has devoured 1.9 million votes, overwhelmingly those of African-Americans and Hispanics. The vote-snatching statute is a cankerous codicil slipped into the 2002 Help America Vote Act -- strategically timed to go into effect in this mid-term year. It requires every state to reject new would-be voters whose identity can't be verified against a state verification database.
Sounds arcane and not too threatening. But look at the numbers and you won't feel so fine. About 24.3 million Americans attempt to register or re-register each year. The New York University Law School's Brennan Center told me that, under the new law, Republican Secretaries of State began the year by blocking about one in three new voters.
How? To begin with, Mr. Bush's Social Security Administration has failed to verify 47% of registrants. After appeals and new attempts to register, US Elections Assistance Agency statistics indicate 1.9 million would-be voters will still find themselves barred from the ballot on Tuesday.
But don't worry: those holding passports from their ski vacations to Switzerland are doing just fine. And that's the point. It's not the number of voters rejected, it?s their color. For example, California's Republican Secretary of State Bruce McPherson figured out how to block 40% of registrants, mostly Hispanics. In a rare counter-move, Los Angeles, with a Hispanic mayor, contacted these citizens, "verified" them and got almost every single one back on the rolls. But throughout the rest of the West, new Hispanics remain victims of the "Jos鬆ビow" treatment.
In hotly contested Ohio, Kenneth Blackwell, Secretary of State and the Republican's candidate for Governor, remains voter-rejection champ -- partly by keeping the rejection criteria a complete secret.
Theft #2: Turned Away - the ID game
A legion of pimple-faced Republicans with Blackberries loaded with lists of new voters is assigned to challenge citizens in heavily Black and Hispanic(i.e. Democratic) precincts to demand photo ID that perfectly matches registration data.
Sounds benign, but it's not. The federal HAVA law and complex new ID requirements in states like New Mexico will easily allow the GOP squads to triple the number of voters turned away. Rather than deny using these voter suppression tactics, Republican spokesmen are claiming they are "protecting the integrity of the vote."
I've heard that before. In 2004, we got our hands on fifty confidential internal memos from the files of the Republican National Committee. Attached to these were some pretty strange spreadsheets. They called them "caging lists" -- and it wasn't about zoo feeding times. They were lists (70,000 for Florida alone) of new Black and Jewish voters -- a very Democratic demographic -- to challenge on Election Day. The GOP did so with a vengeance: In 2004, for the first time in half a century, more than 3.5 million voters were challenged on Election Day. Worse, nearly half lost their vote: 300,000 were turned away for wrong ID; 1.1 million were allowed a "provisional" ballot -- which was then simply tossed out.
Tomorrow, new federal ID requirements and a dozen new state show-me-your-ID laws will permit the GOP challenge campaign to triple their 300,000 record to nearly one million voters blocked.
Theft #3: Votes Spoiled Rotten
The nasty little secret of US elections is that three million ballots are cast in national elections but not counted -- 3,600,380 not counted in 2004 according to US Election Commission stats. These are votes lost because a punch card didn't punch (its chad got "hung"), a stray mark voided a paper ballot and other machinery glitches.
Officials call it "spoilage." I call it, "inaugurating Republicans." Why? According to statisticians working with the US Civil Rights Commission, the chance your vote will "spoil" this way is 900% higher for Black folk and 500% higher for Hispanics than for white voters. When we do the arithmetic, we find that well over half of all votes spoiled or "blank" are cast by voters of color. On balance, this spoilage game produces a million-vote edge for the GOP.
That's where the Black Boxes come into play. Forget about Karl Rove messing with the software to change your vote. Rather, the big losses occur when computers crash, fail to start or simply don't respond to your touch. They are the new spoilage machines of choice with, statistically, the same racial bias as the old vote-snatching lever machines. (Funny, but paper ballots with in-precinct scanners don't go rotten on Black voters. Maybe that's why Republican Secretaries of State have installed so few of them.)
So Let's Add it Up
Two million legitimate voters will be turned away because of wrongly rejected or purged registrations.
Add another one million voters challenged and turned away for "improper ID."
Then add yet another million for Democratic votes "spoiled" by busted black boxes and by bad ballots.
And let's not forget to include the one million "provisional" ballots which will never get counted. Based on the experience of 2004, we know that, overwhelmingly, minority voters are the ones shunted to these baloney ballots.
And there's one more group of votes that won't be counted: absentee ballots challenged and discarded. Elections Assistance Agency data tell us a half million of these absentee votes will go down the drain.
Driving this massive suppression of the vote are sophisticated challenge operations. And here I must note that the Democrats have no national challenge campaign. That's morally laudable; electorally suicidal.
Add it all up -- all those Democratic-leaning votes rejected, barred and spoiled -- and the Republican Party begins Election Day with a 4.5 million-vote thumb on the vote-tally scale.
So, what are you going to do about it? May I suggest you ? steal back your vote.
It's true you can't win with 51% of the vote anymore. So just get over it. The regime's sneak attack via vote suppression will only net them 4.5 million votes, about 5% of the total. You should be able to beat that blindfolded. If you can't get 55%, then you're just a bunch of crybaby pussycats who don't deserve to win back America.
That's helpful.

Mr Cox,, how deep is the water in the De Nile ?
GOP will hold serve in both Houses. The thought of Pelosi running the House will send the voters out to the polls.
Citizen Keith will be on suicide watch.
Nancy Pelosi is a good leader and will restore some credibility to the office, and hopefully Ann Cuntler will kill herself to escape federal prison time and the humilating defeat tonight.
Hey OWhiney- See you tomorrow when you don't regain the Senate like you have been trumpeting for the past month? Come eat your crow. (Don't forget to say how happy you are that the house switched hands.) Only Olbyloons will see THAT as a huge victory. Watch MSNBC today- even the liberals pundits can't figure out why the election tide turned so quickly on the Senate race.
I see you have already written off the H.O.R. ?
Its gone- but we got the senate back in the past two weeks. Nice try but you bat 500 in 2006. Which maybe to you IS a huge victory.
Really,,,, so if the Dems pick up 5 seats and win the HOR it is still a victory for the GOP ?
Bill O -
We don't need that type of vulgarity.
Tonight you'll be singing "Show me the way to the old whiskey bar" to drown your leftist sorrows.
This may be the last hurrah for the Liberal Arts media - the last of their substantial influence
Thank Olbermann, Rather, & crew for that
1. Circulation and viewership is waaay down - layoffs, stocks at 5 year lows, etc.
2. With Olbermann, the New York Times, etc, there's is nothing left to the imagination of the extreme liberal bias.
3. Conservs now would be foolish not to air a one hour (RNC) talking points programs, with no rebuttable - just like MSDNC did with Olbermann. Abrams & MSDNC proudly set the precident - why not follow.
4. With Olbermann claiming his colleagues at NBC news (all) endorse his harsh anti everyhting conservative propoganda - any doubt that the Gregory's, the Matthews' the Mitchell's, the Russert's & Williams', etc of the NBC world are totally full of bias and propoganda is a foolish thought. Dishonest is dishonest is dishonest
Unless you're a dem - who wants to read or watch liberal son sided propoganda, why tune in to the fiction, half truths and all the pro lib news that' fit to print
I say the days of NBC (Olbermann damaged irrepairably), CBS (Rather damaged irrepairably) and ABC are toast.
Would also like to see the youth of the country, much like inthe 60s, start seeking out the truth. The libe Dem media is now the "establishment". Look for the youth to start thinking for themselves and seeing through the crap spewed by Hollywood, the old rockers who spew everyhting liberal "hook, line and sinker" ala the Neil Youngs, the Dixie Chicks, the Springsteens.
The times they will be a changin
Check your history... the incumbant has NEVER held both in a non-presidential election. To hold the Seante is a big victory. Losing the house sux... but go back two weeks. You have boasting a double victory for weeks. Truth is- I want Pelosi in. She will ruin the house, and all but ruin Hillary's chance in '08. Mark my words... 11/07/06. "Pelosi will botch the speaker job with an extremely Liberal agenda so bad that it will hurt the Dems in '08" Even Bush could win in '08 then.
Robert:
I wish I could share your enthusiasm in NJ.
You have Corzine forgiving loans to bimbos, and ex-Gov. McGreevey have man-sex on the Garden State Parkway. New Jerseyites will probably send the crook Menendez back.
Would love to see Keane pull it off.
In New York, the crook Hevesi will get re-elected after stealing 150K from the state.
Hell,, why not Bush has not been elected president once yet, so I am sure he could probably with Roves' assistance steal the presidency once again.
Dude, I had to get the impression of a chick's nipple in a jar of peanut butter. Since I didn't know who to ask I found a staute of a woman and used that. Long story short, the cops busted me with trespassing and vandalism. And they kept the jar as evidence.
How should I vote, straight D or R?
No Bad... go straight Green.
Olielly- pity the fool that still thinks that. You poor democrats think all society is against you. You'd think the Liberal media would be talking all day about stolen elections of 2000 and 2004 if that weren't just a talking point for the uninformed. Poor Gore. Poor Kerry. Maybe you Democrats should stay home and not vote, as a vote for a Democrat doesn't matter anyways.
"Pelosi will botch the speaker job with an extremely Liberal agenda so bad that it will hurt the Dems in '08" Even Bush could win in '08 then.
You know, that's an interesting angle. I kind of like it. The Senators will keep the house in check, but having the American people watch a Speaker Pelosi HOR could finish the Democratic party for good.
Benson.. do you think people should be stricken from the voters rolls for crimes they are siad to have committed in the future ? Yes,, the future,,,go to a bookstore... look up Greg Palasts' book " the best democracy money can buy ",, look at page 55. Read the excel file sheets directly from the state of Florida.
Bobby, you have Dems +2? I presume you are putting Santorum and DeWine as losing, right? But you also have Steele picking up Maryland. Wouldn't that make the Dems only +1?
1. Who will pick up seats (GOP or DEM) and how many?
House: DEMS +18
Senate: DEMS +5
2. Close Senate Races (R v. D):
(Casey over Santorum + Brown over DeWine)
Arizona (Kyl v. Pedersen): Kyl
Maryland (Steele v. Cardin): Cardin
Montana (Burns v. Tester): Tester
New Jersey (Kean v. Menendez): Menendez
Rhode Island (Chaffee v. Whitehouse): Whitehouse
Tennessee (Corker v. Ford): Corker (though I won't be surprised if Ford pulls it off)
and finally one other Dem from either
Missouri (Talent v. McCaskill): McCaskill (more likely)
or
Virginia (Allen v. Webb): Allen (As a VAn, I have trouble believing Webb will win)
3. Other Races of Interest
New York 26 (Reynolds v. Davis): Davis (I hope)
Florida (Foley/Negron v. Mahoney): Mahoney
Texas 22 (Delay/Sekula-Gibbs v. Lampson): Lampson
Conneticut 4 (Shays v. Farrell): Farrell
Florida Governor's Race (Crist v. Davis): Crist
California Goveror's Race (Arnold v. Angelides): Ahnold
Ridiculous Wild Ass Guess:
Liebermann 44% Lamont 41% Schlesinger 15%
or
Liebermann 41% Lamont 42% Schlesinger 17%
I predict that no matter how many seats in the House and Senate the Dems win today the Republicans will attempt to spin it as a positive for them.

Posted by: indierik at November 7, 2006 12:20 PM
I predict that your prediction will come true!
While I don't expect anything of the sort, I kinda hope the Dems win 30 seats in the House and win the Senate. It'll be kinda hard to spin that.
Bobby, I just looked at your 'Examiner' link.
How come here you say Menendez will beat Kean, but there you say Kean over Menendez?
I am going to predict a straight GOP sweep. A straight victory on referendums for the GOP.
Bsinrod has the straight scoop. And, my 'Evil and Stupid' tin foil hat to Karl Rove having been repaired, I have been ASSURED that the theft of the Dem votes will be absolute. Long live the King.
EVILLY AND STUPIDLY YOURS,
Janet Hawkins
AKA Grammie
Oh, and did I mention that I am an inbred fundy Christonazi, imbelcilic, rascist, callous, MAD BITCH and a barbaric c**T.
That why I post such driveling, hate filled, stupid nonsense.
Here's what I predict will kill the Dems in the Senate:
-Chaffee wins in RI
-Steele wins in MD
-Burns wins in MT
Let's hope I'm wrong.
Crap. I don't think my race features Greens. The cops who busted me were this white and black team of all ball busting rent-a-cops so that doesn't help matters.
This stinks man. All I wanted to do was get a nipple in peanut butter and now I have all this hassle.
I am thinking about not voting at all. I live in Maryland so if anyone has any suggestions on who to vote for to get out of this mess I'd send you something.
Bill O',
Ann Coulter said that the Democrats should win if the election follows history. (It would give her lots more writing material so I doubt she'll be on the verge of a breakdown.) You and she are actually very much alike in your abrasive approaches.
And the problems have already started:
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061107/LOCAL19/61107003
And, evidently, the FBI is looking into harassing phone calls in VA. Including ones that are telling people that supposedly they are registered to vote in another state and if they show up to vote they will be charged criminally.
Predictions:
Dems take House
GOP keeps Senate
O'Lamely remains a vulgar, name-calling ass.
Any takers?
Why does anyone even bother reading Palast anymore?
How many times does his nonsense have to be debunked before people stop reading him? Apparently, the answer isn't the hundreds and hundreds of times already...
Sorry Ollielly, I wouldn't read anything from NPR or BBC correspondants. I actually think you can find lots of good writers and reporters who write . Maybe you should not only read left slanted books... you's sound more informed. Thats like me citing an ann coulter book as reference.
The bottom line as reviewed by AP. Washington Post, and NY Times: The recount also showed that the only way that Al Gore could have tallied more votes was by using counting methods that were never requested, but that may have been applied if the USSC-mandated standards had been implemented, and which included "overvotes" — spoiled ballots containing more than one vote for an office. While some of these ballots recorded votes for two separate candidates, a significant number (20% in Lake County, for example) were cases of a voter voting for a candidate and then also writing in that same candidate's name on the write-in line. A judge supervising the recount told the Orlando Sentinel that he had been open to the idea of examining the overvotes, and had been planning to discuss the matter at a hearing when the US Supreme Court stopped the recount.
My Predictions
Senate: Dems +6
House: Dems +25
Keith Olbermann will take credit and declare himself majority maker!
Benson.. so you are OK with people being convicted of crimes in the future ?
O'Leilly:
Why do you keep repeating an already refuted assertion?
Go look it up yourself...Palast got it wrong...very wrong.
OLiles- Esplane? only if they come up with Minority Report technology
O'Lielly---
you are right...I experienced voter suppression in this election...KO came on every night and tried to get R's not to vote
Only those afraid of the truth should be leary.

_______________________________________________
You mean DENNIS LEARY? I'm leery of you, O'lie-lie, you are lost, little girl. And do lay off the Morrison, if you're wise. Then again, do pop all the barbiturates and down the vodka in your bathtub....
In the case of the movie, "Minority Report", fact is probably better than fiction.
However, it's just mind-boggling that opportunistis like Palast take the problems of the implementation of the voter list "purge" and immediately assume it was part of some mass conspiracy.
That's the problem with conspiracy theorists like Palast...they take a poorly implemented program such as the voter list "purge" (an understatement, if anything)link it to an historical event in which he doesn't like the outcome, Bush's win in 2000, connect the dots and assume that A caused B.
The kindly old Jesuit who taught me Logic in college is probably turning over in his grave at the perversion of logic perpetrated by the likes of Palasta. (He's probably not too thrilled with Keith Olbermann either.)
Now this clown is coming up with pre-emptive conspiracy theories, just in case the Republicans do better than most anticipate.
This would be funny, if it wasn't so daman sad that so many actually believe Palast.
What about the Nevada Gubernatorial Race?
I mean, you have a sex scandal, an illegal immigrant scandal AND a "pay-for-play" scandal dogging the Republican (Rep. Jim Gibbons) and the race is STILL too close to call.
Nevada is important to the Dems because it is the second state to caucus in 2008.
But what about the voter suppression for white guys like me who are black "below the belt" and prefer Mexican food?
O'leilly whatever happens today you still won't be able to gay "marry" your boyfriend. No now- not ever. You'll have a better chance trying to marry a dog.
Bad news- early retrurns has the house gone and the senate closer than expected.
Bad news- early retrurns has the house gone and the senate closer than expected.
Sorry for the misspellings and double post-
They'll count the votes on Tuesday night
Mister Uberloon should be a sight
"Impartial" says Keith
He lies through his teeth
And he might blow a gasket tonight
Another Prediction:
"Katie Turic" will continue to bore us with the same predictable 1-1-2-2-1 rhyme schemes.
If democrats lose the election
they'll send in lawyers to vet it...
And you know if they take back the House,
Olbermann will take all the credit!
(appologies to Katie :)
When the results go against Olby, Matthews will shout out... "Get thee to a Nunnery!"
How could Olby take the credit? According to this web site, nobody watches him!
Mike- because that is total Olby Logic. Does it make sense yet?
No matter what the results tonight there is a silver lining !
Ned Lamont and his Nutroots will loose!
Joe Lieberman is now an independent and pissed at the Democrats.
Jim Webb is really a Republican(he will loose though)!
We found out about scumbucket foley!
If the dems win they will make a mess of themselves and by 08 America will be begging to put Rudy Giuliani or Mitt Romney in the White House.
Hillary Clinton will implode over Iraq and be a non-factor in 18 months.
Keith Olbermann will be hosting on QVC!
Just the mumblings of a knuckle dragger.
one smart knuckle dragger
Mike does not know Keith that well.
benson,
I concur, the data that I have has the Dems picking up 28 in the house. The Senate is too close to call. However it seems that Michael Steele might win in Maryland.
I have a feeling that this is also a war between Karl Rowe and Keith, who wants to beat him so bad. He thinks he is smarter than Karl. Anybody agree with me?
"O'leilly whatever happens today you still won't be able to gay "marry" your boyfriend. No now- not ever. You'll have a better chance trying to marry a dog"
I'm sure you will keep fucking your dog whether it is legal or not river puppie.
My prediction:
Senate: Dems lose seats in NJ,MD
Reps lose seats in RI,OH,PA
Net gain Dems +1
House: Dems gain 9-11 seats
ATTENTION.... RIVERDOG HAS BEEN KICKED OFF THIS SITE,, BUT LOOK UP,, HE HAS RETURNED.
ATTENTION.... RIVERDOG HAS BEEN KICKED OFF THIS SITE,, BUT LOOK UP,, HE HAS RETURNED.
His IP was banned. I guess he wants back in. I am not going to ban his new IP unless there is a problem.
Meanwhile folks, those wonderful folks over at the Media Research Center have a live IRC chat going for election night. I am logged in over there. I don't think they want OlbyLoons and it is not quite the same as OlbyWatch where we want to hear from everyone so...consider this an invite to clear-thinkers only.
http://newsbusters.org/node/8881
Are you guys WATCHING MSLSD?
Olberloon looks like he might faint!
He doesn't know what to do on a "real news" show...
That guy is so uptight- you could stick a lump of coal up his ass and by the end of the night, you'd have a diamond!
WhOa! FOUR minutes into co-hosting and Olberloon makes a Britney Spears joke...
Its gonna be a LOOOOOOOONG night!
FIVE minutes in and we have our first MACACCA reference!
This must be some kind of record!
Senate: Dems win 6 win Senate.
House: Dems win 30 Win House.
Looks like exit polls are starting to come out. over 60% seem to be voting on national issues. the number 1 issue being corruption. Not good for the GOP
Olbermann just referred to George Allen as George "Mecaca" Allen. How can anyone take this "newscast" seriously from this point?
Feel free to believe those exit polls, Lawyer Boy. That worked well for you back in '04.
Red, was that directed at moi? I'm on YOUR side...
Just checking...
What a fascinating site. Bloggers just sitting there waiting for the man to make any "mistake" you can pounce on. Just look at yourselves!
Yea, I actually agree...he looked a little uncomfortable at first. Lets just see how it developes.
Hey....
WHERE'S Krazy Keith? Did they yank him right after the FIRST BREAK?
Clapping for mike!
Seriously... is the format tonight a "tag-team" of a segment of Chris, then a segment with Krazy?
I hope that Olbermann did not get a pink slip for giving George Allen a new middle name... if anything, he should have called him George "Deer-in-the-mail" Allen...
They just did a wide/pan shot - and I didn't see Krazy in the studio at all...
Maybe he's in his dressing room taking another bath?
Maybe he is looking for a lump of coal?
Sorry, LawStudent. I thought you were saying that we should take the exit polls seriously.
Why do only Republicans get middle names? Tom "The Hammer" Delay? George "Mecaca" Allen? What's next? Richard "The Animal" Steele?

Why is Delay not in prison ? The insidious little pile of crap should be under the tracks of a tank.
Is Keith allowed to talk to Republicans like The Hammer? He's been silent during this entire interview!
Bill O'Lielly: Instead, he re-entered the race! I am living in a bizzarro when you leave a room you enter it again alternate dimension!!!

Why is Delay not in prison ?
Uhhh- 'cause he hasn't been convicted of anything?
Is Keith allowed to talk to Republicans like The Hammer? He's been silent during this entire interview! And Chris is as orange as a Longhorns uniform!
Red State: Keith Olbermann's lack of experiance with the opposite side of the aisle leaves him with the driving-without-insurance-esqu slowness in responding to Conservatives...
Yeah,, he is innocent...
WASHINGTON, Sept. 28 – Representative Tom DeLay of

Representative Tom DeLay maintained his innocence, asserting that the indictment resulted from a "purely political investigation."
Mr. DeLay was indicted on one count charging that he violated state election laws in September 2002. Two political associates, John D. Colyandro and James W. Ellis, were indicted with him.
The indictment of Mr. DeLay, while not entirely unexpected, still reverberated through the Capitol. The House Republican rules require a member of the leadership to step down, at least temporarily, if indicted.
Late this afternoon, Representative Roy Blunt of Missouri, the majority whip, was appointed temporary House majority leader, with David Dreier of California, the chairman of the Rules Committee, designated to assist him. Earlier in the day, Republicans on Capitol Hill said Speaker J. Dennis Hastert intended to appoint Mr. Dreier to take over for Mr. DeLay.
A conviction on the felony charge against Mr. DeLay, 58, carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison. The lawmaker has consistently maintained his innocence and today asserted that the indictment resulted from a "purely political investigation" by the Travis County district attorney, Ronnie Earle, a Democrat.
"I have done nothing wrong," Mr. DeLay said, adding that he had violated "no law, no regulation, no rule of the House." Mr. DeLay, speaking on Capitol Hill, described Mr. Earle, a longtime antagonist, as "a partisan fanatic" and a "rogue district attorney" and said the prosecutor had shamelessly courted journalists on "the only days he actually comes to the office." Mr. DeLay said the charge lodged against him today was "one of the weakest, most baseless indictments in American history," one that is "a sham, and Mr. Earle knows it."
Mr. Earle, in a separate news conference, disputed Mr. DeLay's contentions. "We have over the years prosecuted a number of public officials," he said in Texas, adding that it was his duty to go after "abuses of power." In fact, he said, he has prosecuted more Democrats than Republicans.
At the White House, the president's chief spokesman, Scott McClellan, expressed support for Mr. DeLay, telling reporters, "Mr. DeLay is a good ally and a leader who we have worked closely with for the good of the American people.'' "The president's view is to let the legal process work," Mr. McClellan said. "There's a legal process and we're going to let it work.''
Democrats were quick to seize on Mr. DeLay's troubles. "The criminal indictment of Majority Leader Tom DeLay is the latest example that Republicans in Congress are plagued by a culture of corruption at the expense of the American people," the House minority leader, Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California, said in a statement.
Mr. DeLay is second only to Speaker Hastert of Illinois in power in the House of Representatives and has been credited with shepherding much of his party's legislative programs through Congress. He has also been seen as a key in expanding the Republican majority in the House, which now stands at 231 to 202 Democrats, with one independent and one vacancy.
Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said the indictment was further evidence that "alleged illegal activity reaches to the highest levels of the Republican Party."
"Tom DeLay is neither the beginning nor the end of the Washington Republicans' ethical problems," Mr. Dean said in a statement that also cited questions over a stock sale by the Senate majority leader, Bill Frist, and an investigation into the leaking of the identity of a C.I.A. operative that has touched on the presidential adviser Karl Rove.
The DeLay indictment asserts that Mr. Colyandro and Mr. Ellis were part of a scheme in which corporations contributed large sums ($50,000 in one instance, and $25,000 in at least three other instances) that were destined for the Republican National Committee. The indictment includes a copy of a check for $190,000 made out to the Republican National State Elections Committee, a component of the party's national committee. That money was to go to various candidates for the Texas Legislature, the indictment says.
The hammer.. you mean the disgraced booted Texas Tool ?
O'LAMEly said: "Why is Delay not in prison ? The insidious little pile of crap should be under the tracks of a tank."
Uh... because the "charges" have no merit? Remember, LAME-O, that this is the same Partisian, DEMOCRAT DA who filed the SAME charges against Kay Bailey Hutchenson- and he'll get the SAME RESULTS- (say it with me) NO CONVICTION.
Steve,, really then why did he step down ?
What Delay has been charged with pales in comparison to all of the ethics violations he is guilty of that are not technically illegal.
LAME-O keeps babbling: "Steve,, really then why did he step down?"
Ummm... because (unlike BJ Clinton) he wanted to spare his party/president/country embarassment?
that's right O'lielly I am back - get used to it moron. I told Robert I would keep my opinions down to a dull roar and he seems to have graciously allowed me to come back . somebody has to keep your stupidity in check O'leilly and I am just the one to do it so get ready for some fun you slimy little leftard. Let the games begin!
it seems that even the lefty Chris mathews is keeping olberman in control or maybe olbermann is afraid of talking to conservatives like Tom Delay who are about 100 times more intelligent than he is and who would verbally trounce his moonbat ass.
One More Prediction:
Krazy will not (or will not be ALLOWED TO) interview/speak to any conservative/republican or ANYONE who leans to the right of his myopic view.
Any takers?
OlberClown just wondered aloud to Lisa Daniels (who has a mouth similar to John Elway) if they were "constructing Santorum's victory stage or tearing it down." This is a travesty of journalism before our eyes.
Mathews looses so much of credibility for sitting next to Olbermann, as if Olbermann is a serious political analyst. Olbermann has every right to be on TV if he gets ratings, but don't for a second tell me he nothing more than John Stewart light - with a tad more sports knowledge.
OlberClown just wondered aloud to Lisa Daniels (who has a mouth similar to John Elway) if they were "constructing Santorum's victory stage or tearing it down." This is a travesty of journalism before our eyes.

O'lielly are you so gay that you cannot even refer to a Texas republican without informing us of your sick sexual fixation. Delay will be back .He has done nothing wrong. Republicans step down when accused liberal democRATS get elevated in their party. Barney Fag from Massachussets can be a homo pimp and he gets elevated in the democRAT party.
186kps, calling Olbertard "John Stewart Light" is an insult to John Stewart! At least Stewart is occasionally funny...
"sick sexual fixation"
"democRATS"
"Barney Fag"
"can be a homo pimp"
"democRAT party"
========================
You are probably going back to the swamp, river dog...
Riverdog- don't forget, its the DemocRATS who ACTUALLY HAVE SEX WITH MINORS. Foley was a creep- and he sent creepy emails... but it was DemocRAT Congressmen Mel Reynolds and Garry Studds who (say it with me, LAME-O) ACTUALLY HAD SEX WITH MINORS.
Reynolds was prosecuted and sent to jail (until BJ Clinton pardoned him) and Studds was promoted within the DemocRAT leadership and was re-elected by those tolerant folks in Mass.
Foley was treate as though he actually did touch minors... so I guess it is one in the same (?!?!/!?)

READ MORE: 9/11, Iraq, 2006, New York Times
In 100 hours, the top five oil companies will take in $4.3 billion in profits.
In 100 hours, $1.1 billion will be spent on the war in Iraq.
In 100 hours, the public debt will grow by $4.9 billion.
In 100 hours, the top 10 pharmaceutical companies will gain $2.6 billion in profits.
In 100 hours, the top CEOs will earn an average of $2 million each.
In 100 hours, a minimum wage worker working 8 hours a day will earn $171.67.
And if all goes as expected, in less than 100 hours my sixth grandchild will be born.
I want my grandchild to be born into an America where government is for and by the people. I want my grandchild to be born into an America that rewards and values hard work. I want my grandchild to be born into an America where you are not labeled a terrorist coddler when you honor the Constitution.
I want my grandchild to be born into an America where if the U.S. Central Command judges the situation in Iraq to be near chaos, with "violence at all-time high, spreading geographically", if the top intelligence agencies tell you that the war in Iraq is inspiring the very terrorism it was purported to prevent, and if four highly respected military newspapers say of the Secretary of Defense that "his strategy has failed, and his ability to lead is compromised...[he] must go" that you fire your Secretary of Defense and change the course.
I want my grandchild to be born into an America whose government honors its duty for accountability and oversight.
I want my grandchild to be born into an America that inspires innovation, that leads with dignity and diplomacy, that rejects fear mongering, and whose leaders start each day remembering that the Constitution begins with the simple but revolutionary phrase "We the people," which announced to the world that here, the people rule.
If you honor Democratic candidates with your vote today, in the first hundred hours of a Democratic Congress: We will restore civility, integrity, and fiscal responsibility to the House of Representatives. We will start by cleaning up Congress, breaking the link between lobbyists and legislation and commit to pay-as-you-go, no new deficit spending.
We will make our nation safer and we will begin by implementing the recommendations of the independent, bipartisan 9/11 Commission.
We will make our economy fairer, and we will begin by raising the minimum wage. We will not pass a pay raise for Congress until there is an increase in the minimum wage.
We will make health care more affordable for all Americans, and we will begin by fixing the Medicare prescription drug program, putting seniors first by negotiating lower drug prices. We will also promote stem cell research to offer real hope to the millions of American families who suffer from devastating diseases.
We will broaden college opportunity, and we will begin by cutting interest rates for student loans in half.
We will energize America by achieving energy independence, and we will begin by rolling back the multi-billion dollar subsidies for Big Oil.
We will guarantee a dignified retirement, and we will begin by fighting any attempt to privatize Social Security.
I say this as a grandmother (of almost six) and as the Democratic Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives.
OWUB said: "Foley was treate as though he actually did touch minors... so I guess it is one in the same (?!?!/!?)"
I'm not quite sure what that means- but my point was (and I'll go slower) DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSMEN ACTUALLY HAD SEX WITH MINORS. Not "treated as though" ACTUAL SEX. WITH MINORS.
I hope that clears things up.

Rivermutt.. bring me your daughter I will screw the hell out of her for the next five hours and then give her back to you filled with my seed...
I guess they are not one in the same. Had Foley actually touched anybody he would be in jail right about now.
...way to change the topic, LAME-O
Rivermutt.. bring me your daughter I will screw the hell out of her for the next five hours and then give her back to you filled with my seed...
(....pssst... Mr. Cox, I think its time to bring out the big BAN button...)
Law Student.. oh so Rivermutt and your ilk can say anything.. but those who disagree have to watch what we say ?
Get this O'lielly out of here!
Back to the Huffpo or kos with him !
Hey, LAME-O, I think "bring me your daughter I will screw the hell out of her for the next five hours and then give her back to you filled with my seed..." Is just a tad bit different from "democRAT".
Don't you think?
Please?
Yeah maybe it is time for O'lielly to be gotten rid of. I want to make a serious attempt at criticzing the olbytard not fighting with some sick little homo like Olielly.
The time I spend proving what a moron O'leilly is could be much time much better spent proving what a moron olbermann is.
talking ill of my daughter is a sure way to meet one of my .44 magnums and I would rather bitch about olbermann than have to clean up what is left of O'lielly.
in other news O'lielly you are a grandmother? or did you just plagarize and cut and aste some senile old liberal nutcase? Besides gays can't have kids anyway.
MSNBC fails its first test: The maps are all out of whack. Matthews looks like he's going to choke somebody in the control room.
Does Bill O'Lielly have his promised 'saltandpretzels' blog? Maybe there is more outrage from Bill O'Lielly, there ?
O'leilly I will go after you, i will go after any politician you support. i will go after any nuctase liberal idea you have but I will NOT go after your family you degenerate fag.
Matthews and Keith do look lost. It's quite amusing.
Olbemann looks like he is about ready to soil himself because he is not in control like he usually is on his self proclaimed news show.
what will olberkook do if the party he has been pimping for all year does not win??
What did Olbermann do/say when Kerry lost ??!!
This thread will be closed; a new election night thread is now open.
TVNewser started off by claiming David Shuster had some sort of 'scoop' about 'voter intimidation' this morning. Keep in mind, Brian Stelter never once said a word about Shuster's "I am convinced Karl Rove will be indicted" comment. Now, he has a poll up asking who has the best election coverage and BIG SURPRISE! MSNBC is sweeping it across the board. Guess the kid knows who his fans are.
OWUB- he said what all libs said: BUSH STOLE ANOTHE ELECTION.
He said: THERE WAS VOTER SUPPRESSION IN OHIO.
He said: WHY ARE AMERICANS SO DUMB? DON'T THEY KNOW THAT LIBERALS KNOW WHAT'S BEST FOR EVERYBODY?
Did anyone else notice that Krazy said NOT A WORD to Scarborough?
Matthews just said Democrats controlling the House would be "fantastic" news before catching himself and calling the news "huge". Pathetic.
In light of your disgusting and repulsive comment you made to riverdog, twice no less, I am surprised that you didn't include one more 'want' for your grandchild.
Boy or girl that they will be protected from sick, perverted gag a maggot scum like you.
You are always abusive to anyone who doesn't share your delusions, but that went beyond the pale. R Cox, I vote to ban this repugnant slug from this site.

Well I suppose it is time to gloat a little and discuss the differences between the so called "olbyloons" and the so called "clear thinkers."
First I would like to congratulate myself for picking 6 in the senate, to the dems, and 30 in the house. I am a god among men and you would do well to listen to me in the future.
Secondly I would like to congratualte Robert Cox on his picks, (2 Dem pickups in the Senate 8 in the house.) Cementing his status s a "clear thinker" Who looks at the facts at hand and makes sound, well reasoned, (and wrong) judgments, based on those facts.
Carl Rove should be mentioned for his deep understanding of Math. I am now a believer in no child left behind and only hope for Carl's sake that there is some sort retroactive clause that might apply to him.
Much thanks to the American people, for restoring my faith... well in the American people. For the first time in 6 years this country no longer feels like it is teetering on the brink of the dark ages.
And finally... in the spirit of non-partisianship, congrats to olbermann watch for amusing me greatly.
