Matea Gold of the Los Angeles Times hits all the usual MSM high notes in singing the praises of Keith Olbermann in her profile in today's paper - his paltry ratings are part of an "upswing" at MSNBC, his inane "special comments" are "blistering critiques, etc. The highlight of course is that Gold quotes me to Keith and gets a reply:
Robert Cox, who runs Olbermann Watch, a critical blog that monitors the cable news host's comments, said that Olbermann employs some of the same tactics that he decries.
"I think at the end of the day he has, by and large, become that which he has criticized - a demagogue like Bill O'Reilly," said Cox, a management consultant in New Rochelle, N.Y.
Olbermann rejects the comparison.
"I'm not trying to whip up a political frenzy," he said. "If I was out there every night beating people over the head with this, I would become a Rush Limbaugh. That's not my goal. I don'st make the facts up to fit the political viewpoint that happens to parallel what it is I'm trying to express."
Howard Mortman and Tim Graham have some thoughts on the piece but suffice to say it is chock full of Olbypocrisy.
I am in DC all week and so will not have much chance to blog but will check in from time to time. I still have a few links to add from the Thanksgiving weekend.
"I'm not trying to whip up a political frenzy,"
KO claims that we live under a "form of fascism". He says our liberties have been drastically curtailed. He says that the government can pick up any American and deny them habeas rights at any time. He claims that we live under an Orwellian (or Nixonian or McCarthyite) government.
But he's NOT trying to whip up any type of frenzy, mind you.
If he WAS trying to whip up a frenzy, what would he be saying differently?
Sheesh.
If this has not been mentioned before, please see the GQ "interview" of Odormann by one of GQ's dingbats. I'm not sure if the mutual orgasm shared by Odormann and the GQ dupe is available online. I read the "interview" in the hardcopy, so I don't have a link.
If someone can provide a scan/transcript I will post the GQ thing.
Nothing says Olby is a goner more than these Ultra
left newspapers vainly trying to save his job with
these pathetic FLUFFER pieces about what a great
show he has......
I know that you all forget this, but slanted or not, Keith Olbermann is also another prominant cable news anchorman in a growing field. If you all want people not to get inspired by Keith Olbermann, then you might as well take the cue from An Inconveniant Truth and start sending put Olbermann Watch referencial DVDs to academic journalism schools about how bad Mr. Olbermann is, and how you must never ever emulate his passion, standards, professionalism, or good will. Will that help?
Olby is the biggest hypocrite on the planet. Period. Bar none. And a world-class liar to boot.
When the cable host participated in a live chat at firedoglake.com this month, he was peppered with gushing messages, including one from former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, who thanked him for "all you are doing to reenergize the fourth estate and its role to be a skeptic of authority."
Wilson gushing over Olbermann is disturbing. Having mostly liberals on his show is bad enough, going to liberal venues to chit-chat is over the top for a person that claims to be non-partisian. Of course the non-partisian thing was brought up early in the piece.
"The longtime sportscaster, who doesn't vote and eschews any political identity — "I may be a Whig, possibly a Free-Soiler," he quipped ........"
"Biggest hypocrite on the planet"??? C'mon, I know a hypocrite, and he weighs a LOT more than Keith!
Yeah I can't wait for Olby to focus his "passion, standards (and lest we forget) professionalism" on Corruption and Racism where he lives and works.I mean he got all worked up over President Bushs'
failure to recover all the body parts from 9/11
so i can't wait to hear his "passion" about another
unarmed African American being shot and killed by
NYC Finest(and two others wounded)or his take on
Alan Hevisi corruption scandal or how yet another NJ
Senator is under criminal investigation......

Jackal:
Keep posting the same silly idea over and over again. After all, the more you post it, the closer it will become to becomming the "truth".
she was gushing over Olby...
"Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, who thanked him for "all you are doing to reenergize the fourth estate and its role to be a skeptic of authority."
Right, like KO's aggressive investigation and reporting on rogue elements in the CIA trying to undermine the policies of the elected officials of the country.
That type of scepticism of authority.
Alice in Wonderland brought to you by Keith Olbermann.
Can you imagine if a group of CIA personnel were trying to undermine a Democratic administration? KO would be going nuts.
Rightly so. Non-elected individuals in our government are there to carry out the policy of our elected officials. Not undermine them or make their own.
Yeah mike your right it is Silly to expect Olby
to look at corruption by the Democrats....
"I don't make the facts up to fit the political viewpoint that happens to parallel what it is I'm trying to express."
Too funny. No, KO doesn't make up facts. He lifts made-up "facts" from liberal blogs and reports it as news.
Robert: Nice quote. You hit the proverbial nail right on the head.
Notice that the Bush haters are completely absent from this thread. They simply have nothing to say when facts are presented regarding the utter lack of journalistic integrity that characterizes the Meltdown program hosted by Orange Boy (more on this below). Instead they try to change the subject by posting from some idiotic Bush hating web site.
When the conversation turns to the antics of Orange Boy, his partisan cheerleading, his fear of having his partisan viewpoints challenged, his threats to his critics ("kill yourself"), his lies about his ratings, his promotion of loony bin fantasies such as the "stolen" Ohio vote in 2004 or Rove about to be indicted in the Plame affair, nobody who supposedly supports Orange boy can offer a cogent reason that a sensible clear thinker should overlook these fundamental flaws or why they should be excused.
Face it, Orange Boy has terrible ratings compared to his competition for a reason-- people who are interested in the issues of the day quickly recogize that Olbermann is a shrill, angry, humorless propagandist who will tolerate no dissent from his own perceived wisdom.
GINGRICH: AMERICA COULD LOSE AN ENTIRE U.S. CITY
-- "Just Look at New Orleans", Says Former Speaker --
MANCHESTER -- Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich yesterday said the country was forced in the recent midterm elections to reexamine control of the House and Senate in order to adequately meet the threat of systemic Republican corruption and incompetence. Speaking at a Manchester awards banquet, Gingrich said a "different set of rules" may be needed to reduce Republicans' ability to violate the Constitution and sidestep the rule of law simply to further their own selfish interests.
Bob,
Where are all the TVN: Journalism At Its Finest post lately?
One of the few times I agree with Olby. Yes thats right! Olby doesn't make up facts, He doesn't use any facts to begin with!!!!!!!!
Robert, do you believe O'Reilly is a demagogue?
