COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN - FEBRUARY 15, 2007

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • IRAQ AND IRAN: Dana Milbank, Washington Post national political reporter and MSNBC political analyst; Larry Johnson, fmr. deputy director of the Office of Counter Terrorism at the U.S. State Department
    • SCOOTER LIBBY TRIAL: Stanley Brand, defense attorney
    • ANNA NICOLE SMITH LATEST: Michael Musto, Village Voice

Keith Olbermann is adroit at avoiding news that contradicts his spin, and tonight he showed the agility of the Indian Rubber Man in censoring one story after another that would have exposed him for the slovenly political hack that he is. The opening spiel: "Remember Afghanistan?... President Bush finally does". More troops being sent there (how come Olby didn't call this an "escalation"?). Condi Rice, past predictions for Iraq, "comedian Rush Limbaugh" and "right-wing water carriers", Anna Nicole Smith, and some self-promotion for the new Keith Kontract. With such juicy news to crow about, you'd think there would have been a little more spring in his delivery, but tonight's spiel sounded, well, limp.

    MADMAN

The Hour of Spin proper began by telling us how Bush "abandoned" Afghanistan and "neglected" it. Olbermann lied about the "lack of evidence against Iran" (see terriers, below) and said, by talking about Afghanistan, Bush "changed the subject". After referencing "neocons" [Ding!], KO talked about sending more troops to Afghanistan, comparing the numbers to the "escalation" [Ding!] in Iraq. Then a discussion of "the level of delusion" at the White House, plus clips of the press hectoring Tony Snow. On to the Congress debate on Iraq, John Madden Murtha, Harry Reid, Chuck Hagel, Olympia Snowe...hey, isn't every last person Olby mentioned on the same side of the issue? On OlbyPlanet, there is only one side.

Dana Milbank, less lurid livery, suggested that they're playing games with the vote so it won't make Friday's edition of The Hour of Spin. Monkeymann's description of the White House changed from "delusional" (he has to save that for Richard McCain) to "divorced from reality", and Dana again talked about evidence against Iran (he also neatly avoided the item referenced in terriers, below). Great thanks.

Olby introduced his next guest without, of course, saying anything about who he really is: Larry Johnson, a partisan Democrat who actually delivered a Dem weekly radio address, was the Nostradamus who, two months before 9/11, said the US had "little to fear" from terrorism or from Bin Laden. And this is Monkeymann's Great Expert! Based on this distinguished track record, how could anyone discount Larry's brilliant insights? Iran's only responsible for 8% of the fatalities. Hey, that's only 240 US soldiers. Why should that be a big deal? What, do you think murdering US servicemen is an act of war or something? Keith talked about blatant "misinformation", Larry called Condi Rice a "liar"... Really, Johnson's drivel requires no further comment. So it got Great Thanks.

Note: There was no testimony in The Great Leak Case today. But The Great Leak Case somehow was made the #4 story. Instead of Slippery, Olby sought a different point of view by bringing in a different "expert", lobbyist and longtime Democrat attorney Stanley Brand. Of course, KO didn't note these slight details in the man's background, calling him just a "Washington defense attorney". So much for truth in packaging, but then that went out the window with Johnson. Brand's brilliant insights included: either they think they'll win or they think they'll lose; it's the latter; the defense blundered; etc. "Man on Fan" Olbermann demanded to know why Cheney hasn't been charged (oh, it might be because he has the authority to declassify, moron!). Brand opined that the reason was that they didn't have a case on Cheney. After Brand parroted Olby again about how dire things are for Libby, he got Great Thanks.

Next up: "comedian Rush Limbaugh" for joking about Rev Barack Obama (Blue Blog Source: Think Progress). KO started by lying that Rupert Murdoch admitted that he runs a "house organ" for "right-wing politicians". Then it was on to Rush, and--in a stretch, even for the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann--Fox's upcoming comedy news program, which will include a sketch about Obama. Clarence Page didn't think much of that example, but he was happy to pile on Rush. Oralmann even dragged Glenn Beck into the discussion because Beck said he takes no regard of Obama's color. All this "racism" so upsetted Monkeymann that it took up an entire segment, but still not one word about the religious bigotry of those bloggers (see terriers, below). Great thanks. After that, KO devoted a few sentences to the Hardaway anti-gay statements . That's called proportionate on OlbyPlanet.

#2: The "abuses" on American Idol, but, funny, nothing about Michael Jackson (see terriers, below). Then Mr Humility bragged about his Big New Kontract, without saying how much it was for. Plus Brittney Spears, then Anna Nicole Smith with the creepy Michael Musto. The Media Matters Minute was boring.

    OLBY

Taciturn terriers: Monkeymann was especially adept today in spiking a number of inconvenient truths. Tonight he again pooh-poohed the notion that Iran is involved in Iraq. You'll note he took special care not to report this. After attempting to damage American Idol by hyping a website's "prediction" as a news report for two days straight, well what do you know? Turns out Michael Jackson is not going to be on the show. Did Edward R Olbermann retract his phony story? Take a guess. Even though his own network thought it was big news, Herr Olbermann took pains not to report that the wounding of the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq. New developments in the six-party talks that Olby and his sock puppets insisted were doomed to failure. Olbermoronn still hasn't told us what the bloggers wrote. And we're waiting for Herr Olbermann, who slams Bill O'Reilly for comments about Iraq, to do the same to the man who called for the bombing of the holy city of Mecca. He won't, and that's why the Olbermann Manhood Quotient remains: limp.

    NAME

Olbermann's book The book that bears Olberman's name stands at #5,002 at amazon.com, while "Culture Warrior" is #171. (It's that 2-for-$25 sale!) The OlbyTome is #2,685 at Barnes & Noble; O'Reilly's book is #965 there, and is now in its 19th week on the New York Times bestsellers list. On Wednesday Olby & Company couldn't compete with Mr Bill's audience of nearly three million viewers. The discredited sports guy could only manage a third place finish, both in total viewers and in the critical, beloved, all-important, coveted "key demo". Tonight's MisterMeter reading: 2 [LOW]

Olby, Steve Capus pretty much admitted today that you are a press arm of the DNC and every libnut blue blog, so in your words, "What's the diff?"

Oh, I heard that Olbermann's contract came up for renewal. Did he get fired????

No, he got four years at a lot less than he asked for and now he has to answer to Dan Abrams, Brian Williams and NBC Sports. He didn't have much of a choice - he got no better offers from any network. Take it or leave it. I give it a year before he starts calling in sick a lot and stays in the bath permanently because he can't take the pressure.

He has a bigger dek to hide under!

I think the fact that they offered Olby a contract despite his bad ratings and the trouble he's caused speaks volumes about MSNBC's pathetic or non-existent attempts to create new programming. All of their primetime shows get low ratings and no one has attempted to replace them. But then again, being an anchor at MSNBC has to be the worst job in the world.

Contrast and compare the anouncements they made for Tiki Barber and Olby's contract renewal. Tiki Barber got a splashy live event with the press. They did a video conference with Olbermann. I guess the powers-that-be at NBC/MSNBC didn't want to have their picture taken with Olbermann so no photographic evidence would exist when Olbermann flames out (again).

I'm guessing Tiki is making a lot more money as well. Olby got to appear on Alison Stewart's MSNBC show today to announce his new deal. He's hit the big time.

Bill O'reilly pronounced Keith's name Ulbermonn! He pronounced the name Islamic style! Ha!

More evidence of Bush's great economy!

Hershey plans to cut work force by 1,500 By PETER JACKSON, Associated Press Writer
    17 minutes ago

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Hershey Co., whose name has been synonymous with U.S. candymaking for more than a century, is moving a bigger chunk of its production to Mexico.

A day after Valentine sweethearts across the country enjoyed bags of Hershey Kisses, the company on Thursday announced a restructuring plan that will scale back its work force by 1,500 jobs and force some plants to close.

Hershey said the three-year blueprint would reduce the number of production lines by more than one-third while saving the company as much as $190 million a year.

The maker of Hershey's Kisses, Reese's peanut butter cups and Mounds bars currently employs about 13,000 people at 20 plants in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil. The planned cuts amount to 11.5 percent of that work force.

The proportion of Hershey's manufacturing done in the U.S. and Canada will shrink, from 90 percent currently to 80 percent, and the impact will vary from one plant to another.

"Some will be expanded, some will be downsized and some will close," said Hershey spokesman Kirk Saville. He declined to elaborate.

"We recognize this will involve considerable change over the next three years, and intend to make this transformation of our supply chain as smooth as possible for our employees and customers," said Richard H. Lenny, Hershey's president, chairman and CEO.

A union leader suggested that the planned new plant in Monterrey, Mexico, would make the job cuts in the United States and Canada particularly acute.

Dennis Bomberger, business manager for Chocolate Workers Local 464, which represents 2,500 workers at Hershey plants in Hershey and Reading, speculated that the actual job cuts could have to be deeper to achieve a net work force reduction of 1,500.

"They're going to gain some jobs in Mexico ... so there's going to be a higher number lost" in the U.S. and Canada, Bomberger said. "Whenever they move something out the country, that's not good news for any company from the workers' standpoint."

Saville declined to discuss any details about the job cuts or the Mexico plant. Hershey managers began holding meetings with employees Thursday to discuss the changes ahead.

"We will communicate with our employees and (their) union representatives," he said.

Hershey's stock rose 1.6 percent Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange, to close at $52.10, up 80 cents.

Hershey, the nation's largest candy maker, reported a 10 percent drop in fourth-quarter earnings last month on lackluster sales. Results lagged due to weak merchandising, the company said, as well as a recall of products made at a plant in Canada last year after salmonella bacteria was discovered.

Reaction to Thursday's announcement among financial analysts was mixed.

"Bottom-line, this plan should provide (Hershey) with far more marketing firepower, behind which to invest in its core brands ... as well as new platforms," such as premium chocolate and dark chocolate, "while still delivering margin improvement," wrote Andrew Lazar of Lehman Brothers.

Wachovia Securities analyst Jonathan P. Feeney said the plan leaves fundamental problems unaddressed.

"We are skeptical that pulling capacity out of the system while allocating capital away from the core business accomplishes the critical mission, which is to reinvigorate consumer response to its core chocolate products," Feeney wrote.

The company said it will outsource production of low value-added items and that the new Mexico plant would help meet growing demand for its products in that country.

"The long-term benefits will include a significant, sustainable increase in investment behind Hershey's iconic brands and new product innovation, as well as targeted, profitable international expansion," said Chief Operating Officer David J. West.

Hershey reaffirmed its long-term target for sales growth of 3 percent to 4 percent.

I wonder how KO will justify not interviewing any of the Republican presidential candidates in the coming year but will kiss Hillary and Ombama's asses?

Yay I get to make fun of you guys for 4 more years

Thats funny cause Olby lives not too far from 30 Rock so they could have done it all in one place but who would show up to cover it?

Everybody avoids getting their picture taken with Olby. Thats too funny!!!!!!!!!

Olby, you wrote the book about being as phony as a $3 bill. Rather, the book that bears your name.

    Bush even fires Hershey workers!

How is a Hershey plant laying off workers indicative of the entire American economy?

What, plants in China or Russian or Japan aren't laying off workers?

Is there an industrialised country anwhere in the world that doesn't have workers being layed off?

And why am I responding to this anecdote anyway?

Yes, Bush fire 1,500 troops from Hershey's

Ken Allard: NBC sinks too low for this talking head

Web Posted: 02/14/2007 11:04 PM CST
    San Antonio Express-News

Like some second marriages and most Hollywood sequels, it's usually a bad idea for a columnist to revisit the same topic. But last week's discussion of renegade blogger and NBC military analyst Bill Arkin proved some larger points.
In case you missed it, Arkin characterized U.S. soldiers as "mercenaries" enjoying "obscene amenities" shipped into the war zone — pampered hirelings who then complain about declining public support for the war effort.

In reaction, many military people and their families wrote in. Some wondered why NBC would continue to give Arkin a platform for spreading slurs about our men and women serving in Iraq — and as volunteers rather than as mercenaries.

Soldiers treasure humor especially when angry, and a bittersweet correspondence followed about the nature of those supposedly obscene amenities. Did MREs count or, for that matter, heat-resistant Hershey bars with a shelf life measured in decades? What about interceptor body armor? A Marine lance corporal in Iraq reported that their tents were newly equipped with heaters: Did this mean they were pampered?

Writing for the National Review, Michael Ledeen argued this week that only "know-nothings" could call American soldiers mercenaries. "Our fighters are where they are because they believe in something bigger than themselves." And also because soldiers are members of a military community "where virtue does not equal narcissism."

Such communities are increasingly scarce, especially in certain precincts of our national media, where narcissism is apparently becoming a core value. Here, it is probably appropriate to note that for more than 10 years, I served as one of those military analysts you saw on NBC whenever international conflicts were looming.

NBC then was a network comfortably resonating to the rhythms of Tom Brokaw and the greatest generation. Especially after 9-11, our rivals at Fox and CNN scrambled for audience attention by recruiting their own military analysts — subsequently known as "Warheads." Especially for a post-draft nation where personal military service is increasingly rare, our band of TV brothers helped fill in some of the blanks about this new kind of war.

Being personally affected by the life-cycle of news stories, none of the Warheads was surprised to see our respective networks gradually reining in their coverage of the war as popular support waned. Audiences were wearying of a conflict with no end in sight, and, unlike the greatest generation, this one was being fought by Other People's Kids.

When you don't have skin in the game, war becomes a matter of sheer personal preference. Channel clickers are wielded, the soldier overlooked or, as we saw last week, even maligned as a mercenary without provoking a career-ending scandal.

It is, therefore, possible to argue that NBC is merely undergoing a delicate arabesque in anticipation of changing audience preferences and the long- hoped-for Democratic restoration (although journalists generally seem reluctant to raise the tough questions that should punctuate the 2008 campaign).

But has anyone else noticed the network's precipitous retreat from journalistic and ethical standards? Not only were no apologies given and no pink slips issued for Arkin's outburst, but on his MSNBC show last week, Keith Olberman went out of his way to defend this "valid criticism" of our military.

In January, Conan O'Brien was allowed to escape without apology after airing a particularly tasteless gay skit deriding Christianity: "Oh, Jesus, I love you, but only as a friend." (Just try doing that sometime using Mohammad's name!)

And only this week, questions have been raised about the cozy relationships between CNBC anchor Maria Bartiromo and the companies she covers as a supposedly objective journalist. The response by Jeffrey Immelt, CEO of GE and godfather of the NBC family: "Substantially, I don't think she did anything wrong."

Fine: Let's hope he's right. But sometimes the only way to show where you really stand is to vote with your feet. And so with great reluctance and best wishes to my former colleagues, with this column I am severing my 10-year relationship with NBC News.

Retired Col. Ken Allard is an executive-in-residence at UTSA and author of "Warheads: Cable News and the Fog of War." E-mail him at WARHEADS6@aol.com.

"Retired Col. Ken Allard is an executive-in-residence "

Wow. Col. Allard is a principled man.

He has no business working for MSNBC.

And his barb directed at Edward R. Murrow, Jr. was quite direct.

What's Bushkill and the rest of the crazies going to do for their Chocolate Fix?

You know how those crazy people get when they don't have their candy.

By the way folks aren't those Hershey Jobs Union?

Wow! Fast Eddie Rendell is a big Union guy. How come he doesn't step in? He's only The Governor.
Oh wait their was that 100 year old furniture maker that left for Mexico, they were union. Gee Fast Eddie Rendell, Big Goverment, Big tax guy.

Can't get I-78 open after a storm, and can't keep 1,300 union jobs from an Historic Chocolate maker.
Oh I also forgot Fast Eddie lost all those Union jobs out at Rolling Rock Beer when they moved out, To New Jersey!!

Over 100 year old Chocolate Maker getting ready to close up shop.

Over 100 year old Furniture maker closed up shop

100 year or so Beer maker closes up shop.

And should we just add The Pittsburgh Penquins will be leaving after this year for Kansas City.

Go ahead folks, vote Democrat. Look how well it's going here in Pennsylvania.

Everyone should send that link to TVNewser, the supposed "Bible" of TV news that somehow forgot to post that powerful column.

Puck,, yeah... Bob Casey being in office instead of Rick Santorum is the reason for all of it.. dumbass

" Bob Casey being in office instead of Rick Santorum "

Well, why aren't the local politicians in Pennsylvania to blame (if we must assign blame)? Isn't it more likely that state and local policies (tax, et cetera) played a greater role than national ones?

Quick, what policies of Bush engendered these layoffs?

By the way folks those cut backs at Hershey will take place over 3 years.

Bush leaves in Jan. 09. So don't you think that he would do it in two years? Just in case a Democrat gets elected and puts a stop to it.

It's what you come to expect folks from minds that are a few fries short of a happy meal.

"The Media Matters Minute was boring"

Why, because he didn't criticize any republicans, undermining your "KO Only criticizes republicans" smear?

"Free at last, free at last"
You FReepers are almost free at last.

    M Schultz,

I am responding to your post of 02/14 @ 8:51AM. With the exception of a some strident ad hominem attacks copied below, you seem to take great pains to write a reasoned discourse of your views.

    ------------------------
"I don't consider you a Matt, a Batman character, a Porky Pig or any of the other semi-literate, acne-popping juveniles who post here....

FNC viewers are slavish followers of their FNC personalities....

They are perplexed, hurt and angered whenever anyone takes exception to the substance, such as there is, of the commentary of these FNC personalities...

I would be willing to testify, however, that my too-dumb-to-eat-dirt-with-a-spoon Republican neighbors have FNC and FNC alone on all day, and any thought they have was some emission from O'Reilly or Hannity, or, God-forbid, Limbaugh. I don't guess the latter would really qualify as a thought, however."
    ----------------------

Your post, although couched in FNC viewers vs viewers of more enlightened news sources, definitely seems to parallel the argument that conservatives and OW fans are politically monolithic neanderthals vs the enlightened open minded diversity of progressive thinkers.

You state your evidence is only empirical based upon on your neighbors. I suggest you have a larger base of experience that you should be able to cite. Some posters at OW believe that ALL OW fans fall into the categories you cite based on the incessant references to, and I quote you and many others at this site: " FNC and FNC alone on all day, and any thought they have was some emission from O'Reilly or Hannity, or, God-forbid, Limbaugh".

I realise that proving a negative is very difficult, if not impossible. Therefore, I am only asking that you prove the positive point of your post copied below:

    -----------------
"Others, moderates and liberals, most often seek out a variety of voices and opinions. Perhaps, they are less confident in their own views, less assertive, less reactive. However, they see this as a strength, not a weakness. This is apparently unfathomable to conservatives."
    -----------------

Your premise implies an overwhelming preponderance of open mindedness and acceptance of various opinions by the liberal minded that you lay claim to. In contrast, the close minded conservative views that you perceive are monolithic and closed to all rational debate.

All I ask of you is some citations from the progressive open minded posters at this site that support your conclusion. Global Warming seems to be a subject on many minds today. It has been discussed for months here and has engendered some heated arguments.

I am interested in any proof you can provide, based on your following statement:

    -------------------
"MSNBC viewers are likely to disagree with the on-air personalities as often as they agree with them. They tend to view with a critical eye and an ear. They are analytical and nuanced"
    -------------------

I am looking forward to your response.

Three cheers to Col. Allard for cutting ties with NBC and exposing Keithy for what he really is.Now if only Joe Scarborough would realize that too and move on to another REAL news network,he seems like a pretty decent guy and its sad that his career will go down in flames if he stays with NBC

Just a thought. Could KO's late in the day contract tell us as much about MSNBC as it does about KO.

MSNBC may have had hopes of a replacement for KO who didn't want to be associated with such a failed, in every sense of the word, organization.

    Janet Hawkins
    AKA Grammie

    > because he didn't criticize any republicans

No, because he didn't criticize anybody I'd ever heard of before. Boring.

    Janet Hawkins,
Only us on the Left are open minded. Why do you think us Democrats celebrate Military deaths in Iraq? It helps us politically so we want more deaths!

the 1/2 hour news hour is going to be annoying.

Did I miss something tonight or was KO so dispirited that he had no WPITW segment?

Hey, Little Penguin, were you at Glenn Beck's absolutely fabulous parody of Groundhog Day?

    Janet Hawkins

    Grammie,

You have missed a couple of things lately. One Lefty was kind of hoping that you had passed away.

And Red Wolf just turned 12, and has been watching lots of cartoons.

You see one blames Bush for the layoffs at Hershey

I don't even mention Casey, but some guy who is appropriately named O'Lielly and showing he is one of the single digit I.Q.s.

Kudos to whoever said it's a state and local matter. A person with an open mind.

Oh I almost forgot. Mack Trucks in the Lehigh Valley laid off their whole second shift of Union jobs. But what that has to do with Bob Casey you'll have to put on your tin foil hat and ask O'i really don't have a clue.

And I won't go into calling him a dumbass because after that post he showed everybody he was a jackass.

One thing I do know, If you live in Pennsylvania. Just because you have a "big union" Governor, somehow it doesn't translate into a secure union job.

Rico, its not like you, but you are behind the times on my condition. In addition to heart felt wishes for my demise I have been declared a corpse on several occasions.

Perhaps Schultz will incorporate that into his proof of the openminded intellectual prowress of the left.

As I posted a few days ago all I have to do is to be alive to defeat some of the KO einsteins posting here.

    Janet Hawkins

    Janet,
You have to understand, us on the Left love bad news. We love the death of US troops, suicide bombing, layoffs, trade deficit and the Libby trial. Any news that makes Bush look bad helps us Democrats. Bad news=more votes for us Democrats!

    Puck,
Bush controls the economy. He's responsible for the loss of those jobs. He controls every aspect of our lives. He's no different than Hitler!
He's killed more people than Hitler!

Penguin, you don't have to convince me. These people have turned the concept of the honorable and loyal opposition upon its head.

No, the clowns that run this website were so dispirited that they couldn't even accuse him of lifting stuff from Blue Blogs.

Guess there's a few dogs that won't hunt on this side of the fence too.

    > they couldn't even accuse him of lifting stuff from Blue Blogs.

You don't read well, do you?

"You have to understand, us on the Left love bad news. We love the death of US troops, suicide bombing, layoffs, trade deficit and the Libby trial. Any news that makes Bush look bad helps us Democrats. Bad news=more votes for us Democrats!"

Matt I thought I told you to knock it off!

If Olbermann didn't lift from the blue blogs he wouldn't have a show.

    That does sound boring ---

AKA Grammie from your post at 9:30

Very easy, very simple. FNC puts on the best presentation of the three. Thats why they are number one period.

Certain people can't stand this, it drives them crazy to look and see FNC on top day after day, week after week, month after month. And year after year.

Winners when they lose, figure out what they have to do get back to their winning ways.

Losers just complain the deck is stacked, people aren't playing fair. my favorite, numbers don't mean anything. Make fun of the winning team. But hey their losers and they will stay losers. Because they refuse to do what it takes to get back to winning. They believe it should just be handed to them for showing up.

Look at Olby, how long has he been taking shots at Fox News and has it done anything? No!
Yet he believes he should just have to come in and put 5 minutes into a 60 minute show and he should be anointed "King of Cable News".

O'Reilly love him or hate him, puts on a 60 minute show every night and it shows in the ratings.

Hannity & Colmes and Gretta, though I don't watch must do the same because it reflects in the ratings.

It's no secret, FNC is on 24 hours a day. Seven days a week. You want to beat them? Well I'd start by doing something different since whatever CNN & MSNBC have been doing hasn't worked for the last three or so years.

But Grammie what do you expect from a crew that when a Chocolate factory cuts back it's work force. It's somehow George Bush's fault.

But really let's take this lunacy to it's conclusion. Just about all the cut backs in jobs lately have focused on Union jobs.

Now Union jobs at last look was around 7.4% of the work force in America. At the end of W.W.II Union jobs made up almost 50% of the work forcein America.

Wow! George Bush got rid of 42.6% of Union Jobs in 6 years?

Or that would more of a % wouldn't it, doesn't matter.

What it does mean is that some people post here with a single digit I.Q. and some post here with a single digit I.Q. and a foot in their mouth.

Who cares about Union Jobs --- George W. Bush's job is to stop terrorism --- and he is trying his very best with out complainers trying to embaress him all of the time!

To everyone bashing Olby's new contract,
How much do you make? What is your celebrity status? I'm guessing he makes more and gets more airtime in one night than you peons combined have in a lifetime. What big splash did Tom Brokaw get when he renewed contracts? I don't remember most TV anchors having major press conferences to announce they resigned at their current job. Tiki is starting a new job so of course it's bigger news than simply resigning someone.

Colbert: Maybe this can be Keith Olbermann's true wake-up call ... that he can not keep on going on like the way that he is: a biased left wing smear machine ...

    J$,
I understand your assessment of tonight's WPITW segment. Racism (the Virginia legislature) is completely boring and typical for conservatives. Reporting on conservatives being racist is like reporting on the sun rising.

Bushkill posted "He (George Bush) has killed more people than Hitler."

    Grammie!

    Need we add anything?

And with that your Honor, I rest my case. Goodnight!

    Obama,
Olbermann isn't a Left wing smear machine. He speaks only the truth. He's non partisan and fair.

    OWUBIT,
Am I missing something? How is receiving a contract extension a sign you're a screwup? One of your fellow morons thought it meant he had been fired. Do you people know what a contract is? Have you ever worked? What are you people not understanding about this?

Colbert, stupid statement #1: Who ends up in the Worst Person lists thee most? What group? Is it "liberals" no. Is it "progressives" no. Is it "libretarians" nope --- They are mostly conservatives !!!

Colbert, stupid statement #2: If Keith Olbermann was reporting Bill O' Reilly getting a new contract from FOX News ... how do you think he would spin that ?!? A brightspot for serious news reporting ?

    OWUBIT,
Olbermann attacks both sides. He's named Liberals worst persons in the world. He also has crticized Democrats many times on his show. He has non partisan observers who call it like they see it.

More on Colbert's stupid statement #1: Media Matters has a ton of dirt on Moderate Progressives that say stupid things --- Ol' Big Macc never recites their falsehoods that are indeed blatant conservative spin !!! He chooses the goods on obtuse conservatives for his laughs. Nothing from Chris Matthews, Wolf Blitzer, or NPR Radio ... so there. He likes jabbing this one party's ribs in with the spatula of contempt.

Well Colbert [is that Colbert as in Robert or Colbert as in Hebert] that all depends. Who are the signatories to the contract representing what entities at what point in time.

What is Al Franken's last contract with Air America worth?

    Janet Hawkins
    AKA Grammie

    OWUBIT,
What does your first statement or your second have to do with anything? You've all been predicting he'd be fired. The site has a clock until his contract runs out and he's let go. Instead, he gets a four-year contract extension. How does Keith getting a contract extension show him he should stop having conservatives as his WPITW's?
Keith wouldn't report on a new contract for O'Loofah. Why would he?

    > He's named Liberals worst persons in the world.

Who are all the liberals who were named "worst person" in, say, the last six months? No, let me make it easy on you. Name ten. Or five.

Olbermann attacks both sides. He's named Liberals worst persons in the world. He also has crticized Democrats many times on his show. He has non partisan observers who call it like they see it.

    ------------------------------------------------

I am not sure that we are talking about the same "Olbermann" here. You know ... the Keith Olbermann that resigned from CNN in disgrace that Bill Clinton was getting to much media attention (rightfully so) for his escapades with Monica Lewinsky. If we are talking about that Kieth Olbermann ... please ... be specific !!!

"Keith wouldn't report on a new contract for O'Loofah. Why would he?

I'm not sure what your point is. MSNBC comes from MS (Microsoft) and NBC (owned by GE). I have a feeling they can handle paying out a few milion dollars over the next four years.

    OWUBIT,
The Colbert saying Keith attacks Dems and is fair isn't me. It's some pathetic loser who is too scared to be himself and give his opinions. You conservatives seem to like to post under liberals' names. I realize you're all chickenhawk cowards but you're too scared to even post your own opinions?

    Janet,
Speaking of Keith pointing out O'Loofah's moronic and heinous statements, how did you all defend his attacks on a sodomized child?

I can't imagine how people on this site have time for their families. There has been a cavalcade of comments allegedly from Red Wolfe posing as cartoon/marvel comic heroes. He gets under the skin of some of your nemeses here. You may find it amusing or you may not. You were even parodied by someone late last night:

    -----------------------------------------------

Glenn Beck did not say that he does takes no regard of Obama's color ... he said that Barrack Obama was "might as well be white". As though Barrack Obama was seperate from other black people for whatever reasons that may be, Barrack Obama is not speperate from anyone else in his race because of his superior intelect. That would be like saying that some Brazilian is so patriotic he might as well be American. We have lots of patriots in America, that does not mean all patriots are from this nation.

WASHINGTON - About $10 billion has been squandered by the U.S. government on
Iraq reconstruction aid because of contractor overcharges and unsupported expenses, and federal investigators warned Thursday that significantly more taxpayer money is at risk.

The three top auditors overseeing work in Iraq told a House committee their review of $57 billion in Iraq contracts found that Defense and State department officials condoned or allowed repeated work delays, bloated expenses and payments for shoddy work or work never done.

More than one in six dollars charged by U.S. contractors were questionable or unsupported, nearly triple the amount of waste the
Government Accountability Office estimated last fall.

"There is no accountability," said David M. Walker, who heads the auditing arm of Congress. "Organizations charged with overseeing contracts are not held accountable. Contractors are not held accountable. The individuals responsible are not held accountable."

"People should be rewarded when they do a good job. But when things don't go right, there have to be consequences," he said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Some U.S. Senate Republicans voiced reservations on Thursday about a bill designed to stop drug makers from striking deals to restrict the introduction of cheaper generic drugs.

Republicans joined Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee in endorsing a bill that would crack down on drug patent settlements, but some Republican senators said they would not back final passage without substantial changes.

"In its current form, I can't support it," Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah said at a committee meeting.

The generic drug bill proposed by Democrats Patrick Leahy of Vermont, Herb Kohl of Wisconsin and other committee members, targets an increasingly common tactic used by brand-name drug makers -- legal settlements that involve payments to generic rivals to delay the introduction of cheaper alternatives.

The bill would ban any settlement that included both a payment to the generic drug maker and a delay in the introduction of its generic drug.

"I believe today's vote shows that many of my colleagues agree that these settlements are anti-competitive and that brand and generic drug companies are abusing this practice," Kohl said of the committee vote.

Generic drugs typically cost less than brand-name drugs. A generic competitor can enter the market before a brand-name drug patent expires if it can show the patent to be invalid or not infringed on by the copycat

Legislation to ban the patent settlements was backed by Federal Trade Commission member Jon Leibowitz at a committee hearing last month.

"The remarkable thing is that notwithstanding the full-court press put on by the pharmaceutical industry and some legislative disagreements by members of the committee ... a very strong bill is now awaiting action on the floor," Leibowitz said after Thursday's meeting.

    OPPOSED BY DRUG MAKERS

The agency has challenged several patent settlement deals, but has lost key cases in court. Those court decisions have emboldened the industry and led to an increasing number of deals in the past two years. Both brand-name and generic drug makers oppose the bill pushed by Kohl and Leahy.

At a committee hearing last month, industry officials argued that many patent settlements allowed generic versions to be sold before the expiration of the brand-name patents. They said an outright ban could hurt innovation and cut the incentive of generic companies to enter the market.

At Thursday's meeting, Republicans said they backed efforts to stop anti-competitive drug patent settlements. But they said a ban on all settlements proposed by Kohl and Leahy was too broad and could thwart some pro-competitive deals.

Democrats control the Senate with 51 of 100 seats. But 60 votes would be needed to end a possible Republican procedural roadblock.

Republicans agreed to help advance the bill out of committee, as Democrats said they would seek a compromise to address their concerns before bringing it to the floor for a full Senate vote.

Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Arlen Specter said he had drafted a modified version of the bill and favored letting federal courts decide which patent settlements were anti-competitive and which were pro-competitive.

Some backers of Kohl's bill said that would do little to stem the tide of anti-competitive patent deals since the courts had already been treating the deals favorably.

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that President Bush lacks the authority to invade Iran without specific approval from Congress, a fresh challenge to the commander in chief on the eve of a symbolic vote critical of his troop buildup in Iraq.

Pelosi, D-Calif., noted that Bush consistently said he supports a diplomatic resolution to differences with Iran "and I take him at his word."

At the same time, she said, "I do believe that Congress should assert itself, though, and make it very clear that there is no previous authority for the president, any president, to go into Iran."

Pelosi spoke in an interview in the Capitol as lawmakers plowed through a third day of marathon debate in the House on a nonbinding measure opposing the administration's plan to increase troop strength in Iraq - and as Democrats readied a more provocative challenge to the president.

That included drafting legislation to require the Pentagon to meet certain standards for training and equipping the troops, as well fixing the time that military units must be given at home between deployments. "That stops the surge (in troops) for all intents and purposes, because ......they cannot sustain the deployment," said Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania, who said he would attach the conditions to legislation providing nearly $100 billion for the military.

Republicans quickly fired back. Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, the GOP leader, issued a statement saying the plan would "pull the rug out from under American troops in the combat zone by cutting off their reinforcements and forcing them to face the enemy without our full support."

Across the Capitol, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid unexpectedly announced plans to hold a test vote on Saturday on the same nonbinding measure critical of the troop increase that was making its way through the House.

Partisan bickering has prevented a Senate vote so far, with Republicans insisting on equal treatment for an alternative that rules out the "elimination or reduction of funds for troops in the field."

Pelosi and other Democrats have said approval on the nonbinding measure would mark the first step in an effort by the new Democratic-controlled Congress to force Bush to change course in a war that has killed more than 3,100 U.S. troops.

Bush administration officials and their allies are resigned to House passage of the resolution and have worked in recent days to hold down defections by GOP lawmakers.

But Bush, who has challenged lawmakers not to cut off funds for the troops, took a swipe at his critics during the day.

"This may become the first time in the history of the United States Congress that it has voted to send a new commander into battle and then voted to oppose his plan that is necessary to succeed in that battle," the president said.

The Senate unanimously confirmed Lt. Gen David Petraeus last week to take over as the top U.S. commander in Iraq.

Bush said at a news conference Wednesday there is no doubt the Iranian government is providing armor-piercing weapons to kill American troops in Iraq. But he backed away from claims the top echelon of Iran's government was responsible.

Administration critics have accused the president of looking for a pretense to attack the Islamic republic, which is also at loggerheads with the United Nations about what Tehran says is a nuclear program aimed at developing energy for peaceful purposes.

Defending U.S. intelligence that has pinpointed Iran as a hostile arms supplier in Iraq, Bush said, "Does this mean you're trying to have a pretext for war? No. It means I'm trying to protect our troops."

Bush has asked Congress to approve $100 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Congressional Democrats are hoping to insert provisions that would make it harder for the administration to follow through on its plan to deploy an additional 21,500 combat troops to Iraq.

Murtha, in a video aired on movecongress.org, a coalition of groups opposed to the war, said his proposals were designed with the safety and protection of the troops in mind.

The Pennsylvania Democrat also said the measure may be changed to prohibit any military action against Iran without specific congressional approval.

(AP) Ryan Crocker, President Bush's nominee to become ambassador to Iraq, testifies on Capitol Hill in...

Asked about Murtha's remarks, Pelosi said, "I fully support that." She added that she would propose it as stand-alone legislation if it is not included in the bill that provides more money for the Iraq war.

Bush has said he intends to go ahead with the troop buildup regardless of nonbinding expressions of disapproval in Congress.

But, Pelosi said, "I don't think that the president can completely ignore it."

She spoke down the hall from the House chamber, where Republicans and Democrats alternated turns at the microphone in a debate on the war.

"The enemy wants our men and women in uniform to think their Congress doesn't care about them," said Rep. Sam Johnson, R-Texas, who was a prisoner of war during Vietnam. "We must learn from our mistakes. We cannot leave a job undone like we left in Korea, like we left in Vietnam, like we left in Somalia," Johnson said.

Added Rep. Geoff Davis, R-Ky., a West Point graduate who was a flight commander with the Army's 82nd Airborne: "This nonbinding resolution serves no purpose other than pacifying the Democrats' political base and lowering morale in our military."

When his turn came to speak, Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas., said, "There is a better way of protecting our troops than sending more of them to be killed."

Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina, a member of the Democratic leadership, said the victory to be won in Iraq "is not a military conquest."

"The victory we seek is earned through the restoration of America's role as peacemaker, not warmonger," he said.

Year of Pig signals conflicts before new world order: soothsayers

    Feb 14 11:40 PM US/Eastern

The world can expect a roller-coaster ride of conflict and unrest, natural disasters and a plunge in global stock markets once the Year of the Pig begins, Chinese soothsayers say.
As the world farewells the Year of the Dog on Sunday, believers in Chinese superstitions have been busy consulting fortune tellers, feng shui geomancers and a wealth of new books for the year's fortunes.

Chinese fortunes are based on a belief that events are dictated by the different balances in the elements that make up the earth -- gold, wood, water, fire and earth.

Feng shui expert Raymond Lo said that according to ancient Chinese belief, the Year of the Pig is symbolised by two elements -- fire sitting on top of water.

"Fire sitting on water is a symbol of conflict and skirmish, and this may bring a relatively less peaceful year with more international conflicts and struggles," he said.

Lo said the last time such an arrangement appeared was in 2002, the year that followed the September 11 terrorist attacks.

"It is anticipated that there will be more international conflicts and disharmony, which will even lead to regional warfare, uprising and unrest, or the overthrow of governments in certain countries," he said.

The elemental arrangement for 2007, with fire standing on top, could represent openness, optimism and warmth, but it can also bring fire disasters and huge explosions, Lo said.

The Chinese calendar moves in 60-year cycles, meaning the world will experience in the new year events similar to those that took place in 1947.

In that turbulent year, the Cold War began in earnest when then US president Truman declared his anti-communist doctrine and the Soviet Union rejected a US plan for atomic weapons control, sparking the nuclear arms race.

That year saw the same elemental arrangement with yin fire dominant in the Year of the Pig.

"So it will not be surprising that there will be more gun battles, murder with guns, bombing attacks in the year 2007," Lo added.

-- World faces unrest and disharmony but all ends well --

The lunar calendar is based on the cycles of the moon and associates each of the 12 years forming a partial cycle with an animal. The pig is the last in the zodiac sequence that begins with the rat, followed by the ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster and dog.

Fortune-tellers base their predictions on the relationship between the zodiac animals and the characteristics of each animal year.

They also take into account the changing balance over the years in the five spiritual elements that Chinese philosophy believes form the core of the universe -- gold, wood, water, fire and earth.

Feng shui expert Lee Sing-tong predicts serious conflict in the Middle East this coming year.

"Religious wars will turn intense. There will be large-scale warfare or explosions," said Lee, a third-generation feng shui master.

He also expects serious diplomatic conflicts in the East, for instance between China and Japan, and says the problem will be most acute until May 5.

Fortune teller Alion Yeo, who predicted nuclear testing in North Korea last year, said there is a chance that the power of Pyongyang's leader, Kim Jong-il, will weaken.

"This will most likely happen between June and July. I can see their leader is in bad luck during the period. This means something will be changed: someone might replace him or he might fall ill," Yeo said.

"There might be a chance that he would leave his position or hand over his duty to someone else," he added.

The Year of the Pig will largely be a smooth one for the United States, although Yeo predicts an interest rate hike in the third quarter and a big accident between June and July.

"It could be a big fire or an explosion. It would be something that draws the world's attention and causes the stock market to fall," he said, adding however that the market would quickly recover.

Yeo also predicts a strong earthquake, at least 7.0 on the Richter scale, in a Japanese city between March and April. But the number of wounded would be limited by the earthquake resistance of the country's architecture.

Although Yeo anticipates global unrest, he expects a mediator will come in to balance the tense situation between conflicting countries.

"I don't think it will be that bad this year. Although there will be a lot of unrest and disharmony, problems will be solved in the end," he said.

Lo agreed. The pig belongs to the water element and is the birth month of wood. The pig symbolises the germination of plants and when new life is born.

"The pig year can bring a new beginning of international relationships and social orders, this could bring new regimes with new governments in some countries," he said.

And Lee predicts the birth of someone of national importance to China.

He said this person will be born on June 30 between 5.00-6.59 am Hong Kong time (21.00-22.59 GMT) somewhere in the east or south of the country.

"This date of birth is very rare. It only happens once every 60 years. It is very difficult to see such a good fate," he said.

Lee said he did not publish this prediction in his latest feng shui book for fear of inciting mothers to plan their pregnancies to occur at that time.

"I don't want to ruin the natural order. I don't want someone planning their pregnancy artificially. Heaven might not allow it," he said.

"But this child would be a prodigy, very intelligent and talented. This person would have the quality to become China's leader or a prime minister," he added.

Al-qaeda threatens Venezuela! Yes Hugo's buddies have turned on him!
Venezuela to verify "illogical" threat from Al Qaeda

-Rear admiral Luis Cabrera, one of the members of President Hugo Chávez' Joint Chiefs of Staff, Thursday asked for verification of the "illogical" threat Al Qaeda allegedly launched against Venezuela, as this country is fighting US imperialism too, but using other methods.

"We should confirm the authenticity of these reports. It seems illogical that Al-Qaeda, which is against the US imperialism, is going after a State that is precisely fighting this hegemony, this imperialism, yet using other methods," Cabrera told official TV channel VTV.

Reports from Abu Dhabi on Wednesday claimed that the Saudi branch of Al Qaeda has urged followers to strike oil facilities in all countries around the world supplying oil to the United States, including Mexico, Canada and Venezuela.

The call came in an article called "Bin Laden and the Oil Weapon," featured in the latest edition of on-line magazine Sawt al-Jihad (Voice of Jihad), of the so-called "Al Qaeda Organization in the Arabian Peninsula," Efe reported.

The article urges the Mujahideens (Islamic fighters) to target oil premises for attacks not only in Saudi Arabia, but throughout the world.

"We should strike petroleum interests in all areas which supply the United States, and not only in the Middle East, because the target is to stop its imports or decrease it by all means," said the group on the on-line magazine (Voice of Jihad).

Cabrera stressed that the means to fight the United States "are different" because Venezuela fight "with the Constitution, with legality, moral and the truth, rather than terrorist attacks."

He reminded that there are "serious suspicions" that September 11, 2002 terrorist attacks on a number of civilian and military targets in the US were "self-attacks."

"This could be part of a plan," he said, adding that "it is important for Venezuelan security agencies to take all necessary measures of security and defense to avoid any attack."

In this connection, on Wednesday, Minister of the Interior and Justice Pedro Carreño said they have declared "an early alert" and are "ready to conduct any relevant investigations to guarantee supply of strategic resources."

There aren't ANY candidates running that are a Leftwing Iran/Al Qaeda sympatheizer."

    You were warned Matt!

Deep within the dark bowels of the earth
Under relentless weight of solid rock,
The Ichor of the gods flows black and viscous
In vast underground pools. Blood of ages past,
Its movements are measured in geologic time,
Not decades, years, months or days.

The Ichor of the gods holds power,
    Concentrated wealth of evolutionary eons,
    Stored planetary capital, captured
Energy of the sun. Rich potential
But hidden for good reason, it sits
    Unbidden until tapped by man.

    Man probes all things deeply,

Discovers the Black Ichor of the gods

    The Ichor of the gods
    Becomes the world?s premier fuel.
    The ancient lakes far underground
    Are drained, their contents shipped
    Around the globe, pumped, burned,
Used to boil water and turn wheels.

    Economies are turned as well,
    No coincidence Iraq's become
A fuel-rich fertile crescent. The West,
Hooked on wealth, power, consumer goods
    Craves Ichor to satisfy its
    Overpowering energy addiction.

Put a funeral wreath on this site, it's kaput !

can anyone explain the logic of confirming a general to take over the iraq mission, after that general has requested the troop surge, after that general has said a resolution that the majority(in name only) party is proposing will absolutely "100%" hurt morale and undermine the troops, after looking at that general's credentials which show he is one of the top military minds of our time and who wrote the book on counter insurgency (literally), and yet as soon as you send him to iraq you denounce the very mission he was appointed to accomplish?!?!

the motives are 100% political, of course. as cbs news showed us, the soldiers on the ground do not support these non binding resolutions, and have stated that they want to finish the missoin(the overwhelming majority). the soldiers have spoken for themsleves, their commanders have spoken for themselves, and they do not need partisan, selfish democrats speaking for them.

the left's biggest fear is that bush will actually win in iraq, which would pose a huge problem for the very weak democratic field of 2008 hopefuls. if the democrats actually cared about the troops, they would listen to them, and let them finished want the let them start.

6 party talks working with NK, al masri wounded and captured in iraq, al sadyr on the run, iran back peddling on there rhetoric, all things that are great for our country, and terrible for a democratic 2008 campaign. stop playing politics with out lives. jack murtha hasn't served in unifrom in over 30 years, and even when he did he wasn't 1/100th of the soldier lt. general david patraeus, phd., is. i take patraeus's word over murtha, nancy, hillary, and barack hussein, and if you don't then you are blinded by partisanship, because there is no earthly way that barack hussein or hillary know more about military strategy then a man with a phd who graduated # 1 in his class from west point and wrote the army manual on counter insurgency.

the mission has changed, and results are already being seen. we have never undertaken population control during this war, until now. patraeus deserves the chance to deliver.

Flashback: Study -- Keith Olbermann Finds 174 Bad Conservatives, Only 23 Bad Liberals
Posted by Brad Wilmouth on February 15, 2007 - 16:43.
[This was first posted on June 28, 2006] Since its inception almost a year ago, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann has devoted a regular segment on his Countdown show to attacking various people who have gained the Countdown host's derision. The segment, titled "Worst Person in the World," is a strong measure of the MSNBC host's overwhelming bias against conservatives as the segment has served as a launchpad for attacks against conservative figures and positions at a dramatically greater rate than against the left. As reported by the latest Media Reality Check, by a staggeringly lopsided 8 to 1 margin, Olbermann has targeted conservatives, sometimes with substantial venom, while hitting a comparatively miniscule number of liberals.

Olbermann's "Worst Person in the World" segment normally features three nominees, although sometimes fewer, for the title of the same name, with the third place award labeled "Worse," second place labeled "Worser," and the first place award labeled "Worst." His targets have ranged from dumb criminals to politicians and public figures, many of whom have simply made controversial statements upsetting to Olbermann. MRC analysts examined every "Worst Person" segment, beginning with the first installment on June 30, 2005, and ending with June 23, 2006. The total number of nominees counted during the period was 592. Of these, 197, or about one-third, were politically salient figures. Out of these 197 nominees, there were 174, or 88 percent, that featured an attack on a conservative target or ideas, compared with 23 nominees, or 12 percent, that featured an attack on liberal targets or ideas. A list of all politically relevant nominees were compiled for the latest Media Reality Check.

If one focuses strictly on high-profile politicians -- those elected either to a federal or statewide office, including close aides -- the numbers are even more heavily tilted against conservatives. Attacks on Republicans outnumber attacks on Democrats by 25 to 2. Not only was it rare for Olbermann to nominate a liberal for the "Worst Person" dishonor, but he once even referred to former Democratic Senator Max Cleland as "one of the best" during a "Worst Person" segment in which he apologized for the fact that during the same segment the night before, his staff had accidentally displayed Cleland's photo while Olbermann was attacking right-leaning radio host Neal Boortz, whom the Countdown host labeled a "radio babbler" and a "racist."

Olbermann has used these segments to make a number of his more biting insults at conservatives. One of his most outrageous "Worst Person" installments blasted former First Lady Barbara Bush over a donation she made to a Hurricane Katrina relief fund because she required that some of the money be used by schools to buy a software program from her son Neil's company. Without noting that the Bush family had given additional donations to the Katrina fund without any requirement as to how they should be spent, Olbermann snidely took aim at the former First Lady: "You'd think if a woman has reached her 80th birthday she'd understand that if you make a donation to charity, then make the charity give the donation to your son, it's not a damned donation anymore! Barbara Bush, today's 'Worst Person in the World'!"

Although Olbermann once proclaimed that, while it's "naive and old-fashioned" of him, he felt that "you should reserve those terms like 'idiot' exclusively for men" (while defending his choice to call conservative columnist Michelle Malkin a "fool"), apparently he has no problem tagging females with other derogatory labels. After recently turning his "Worst Person" fire toward Malkin, in his first of two shots, he referred to Malkin as "crazier and dumber than we all thought," and on another occasion called her a "nitwit." Well, as Olbermann might say, at least he didn't call her an idiot.

Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh has been a perennial target. The Countdown host has made multiple references to Limbaugh's prescription drug addiction, once quipping that "painkillers wipe out your memory along with your ethics." Olbermann has also taken to mocking the radio host as "comedian Rush Limbaugh." Olbermann also found time to label the American Values Foundation as "homophobes," accused a Utah woman of "bigotry" for opposing the showing of the gay-themed Brokeback Mountain in a local theater, and tagged intelligent design proponents as "the same people who brought you 'the world is flat, the earth is at the center of the universe, and let's burn a scientist at the stake today.'"

Olbermann has even targeted young conservative activists, once ridiculing a Young Republicans president in Pennsylvania for stating that America had eliminated the torture rooms in Iraq. Grotesquely implying a similarity between the treatment of prisoners by American troops to the horrific treatment of those jailed under Saddam Hussein's regime, Olbermann snidely quipped: "You might want to skip the 'eliminating torture' part." The MSNBC host was also alarmed that a conservative UCLA alumni group wanted to combat the problem of liberal professors trying to indoctrinate their students, as the Countdown host tagged the Brewen Alumni Association a "radical group" and wondered how its founder graduated.

The only three major public figures who were either liberals or were attacked from the right were New York Comptroller Alan Hevesi, for saying Senator Schumer would shoot President Bush if he could; Representative Cynthia McKinney for striking a police officer; and Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan for advancing the theory that the levees in New Orleans were blown up with explosives. Notably, each of these three nominees only scored the second place title of "Worser" while numerous conservative figures were dishonored with the first place title of "Worst."

During the past year, Olbermann found few on the far left that inspire him for inclusion in his "Worst Person" segment, while notably using the far left Media Matters for America as a frequent source to attack conservative targets. Other liberals escaping Olbermann's wrath were Democratic Congressman William Jefferson, who was caught storing cash in his freezer in a bribery scandal; and film maker/propagandist Michael Moore, who was recently sued by an Iraq War veteran for including a clip of him in Fahrenheit 9/11 without permission. In direct contrast to the Moore story, Olbermann once made room to attack the operators of the Republican National Committee Web site over an ad attacking anti-war Democrats because of the inclusion of music without permission that was composed by song writer and Iraq War critic Jim Capaldi. But when wounded veteran Paul Damon, a self-described supporter of the Iraq War, filed a suit against Moore for including a clip of Damon without permission to attack the war, Olbermann saw no need to include Moore in his dishonors list.

Olbermann has also made ongoing sport of attacking Fox News. FNC anchors, employees or the network in general have been nominees 66 times. Of those, 58 were on-air personalities -- including Bill O'Reilly, Brit Hume, John Gibson, Morton Kondracke, David Asman, and Geraldo Rivera. On one occasion, Olbermann even referred to FNC as the "Fox Naz-, uh, Fox News Channel."

This is especially notable considering that in June 2005, on his Bloggermann site, the MSNBC host scolded public figures who use Nazi references, saying, "There's no place for the reference in this culture," and that the analogies are "wrong, offensive and deeply hurtful." An ironic statement coming from Olbermann, a man who remarked in 1998 that former Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr reminded him of Heinrich Himmler, a Nazi war criminal; and who last March, appearing on The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, compared the harassment of some of OReillys callers by Fox security to tactics used in Nazi Germany. Olbermann: "Which is, you know, fascinating if, you know, we're living in, say, Nazi Germany, its a good idea."

Strikingly, as an illustration of how strong an anti-O'Reilly vendetta resides within Olbermann, 42 of the Countdown host's attacks on FNC personalities targeted O'Reilly. In fact, on one night Olbermann reserved all three slots for O'Reilly, whom Olbermann sometimes refers to as "the big giant head" or "Ted Baxter," an unflattering reference to a character from The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The MSNBC host once even ended the segment by bizarrely playing an audio clip of Stewie Griffin, the baby from The Family Guy, voiced by Seth MacFarlane, as the cartoon character said, "Bill, hold still. Allow me to soil myself upon you. Victory is mine!"

In the first of several attacks on another FNC host, Olbermann distorted the context of a comment from John Gibson in which Gibson was discussing the general principle of tolerating other religions on Earth and leaving it to God to decide which religion is right. But Olbermann twisted Gibson's words to portray the FNC host as intolerant, comparing him to "religious nutbag terrorists" and claiming Gibson had revealed "a very ugly side to himself." In a later show, the MSNBC host rationalized his "Worst Person" attack on Gibson by playing a clip of Gibson from the Janet Parshall Show, and compared the exchange with Parshall to "an all-access Al-Qaeda show on Al-Jazeera talking about infidels," before calling on the FNC host, whom Olbermann claimed was once a friend, to "leave the airwaves for good" because he has "forfeited his right to stay here." Perhaps the same could be said of Olbermann.

Got this from Newsbusters. Before one of you leftys make a crack about bias include proof where anything in this piece is a lie.

    Joker,

Al Qeada's threat to Venezuela is not illogical at all, I am disappointed in Hugo if that characterization is actually his. Osama is an integral part of the Saudi political landscape, and the Saudis are powerful factors in the Bush oil cartel. That's why we haven't expended any efforts in chasing Osama, who now resides comfortably in his private sactuary in Pakistan's north-forty. Venezuela threatens American CORPORATE interests - not the interests of Americans, so therefore the Al Qeada arm of the Bus/Saud oil Cartel are getting up in his grill.

No karris56, I would not attempt in any way to dispute your set of facts documenting that neocon mouthpieces are as a class a bunch of crybabies and bleeding-heart fascists.

You want our military to fail don't you Beef? Another day, more deaths, and your in hog heaven. A victory to you would be a victory for Bush and you can't have that now can you?

as cbs news showed us, the soldiers on the ground do not support these non binding resolutions, and have stated that they want to finish the missoin(the overwhelming majority). the soldiers have spoken for themsleves, their commanders have spoken for themselves, and they do not need partisan, selfish democrats speaking for them.

MD lives in La la land.
The troops DO NOT support this escalation of the war.
That flaming liberal Oliver North was just over in Iraq and every soldier he asked about the surge, much to his chagrine, told him that they do not support it nor think it will help win in Iraq.

The delusional MD wishes it weren't true either, but as most of this war has gone, it's been just the opposite of what the right wing neo-cons have told us it to be.

If a general says something other than what our clueless commander in chief wants to hear, he's replaced. If anyone comes back from Iraq and dares tell the truth about it, his patriotism is questioned at least.

The truth has been the first casuality of this war, and the spin and lying continues to put our troops in the middle of a civil war, with no end in sight.

as cbs news showed us, the soldiers on the ground do not support these non binding resolutions,

You are correct. They support to come the f--- home !
    As does most of America.

Four more years for KO. Not bad for a sports reporter.

4 more years of keith and his strange befuddling orange glow

    Sir Loin of Beef,
You're really ignorant of Islam. Al-Qaeda has threatened Venezuela because they're not Muslim. If Bin Laden is Bush pawn, why did Al-Qaeda attack Anmerican interests while Clinton was in office? You've discreditted yourself with your paranoid rantings. You blame Bush for Hershey workers being fired. No one here will take you serious and if Red Wolf or Matt continue to mock you. You deserve it. You pathetic fool.

    M Schultz,
Olbermann and Franken are hardley intellectuals. They are the Left's version of Limbaugh and Hannity. Olbermann is a Cliton hack who recieves talking points from her and spews it night after night. He's a jokester and a clown! In fact Michael Savage and Malkin would destroy him in a debate!

    Quoting from you directly:
"Herr Olbermann took pains not to report that the wounding of the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq."

    News today:
"U.S.: No sign al-Qaida in Iraq leader is injured"

It's called journalism. Fox and its lemmings such as yourself should look it up sometime.

    Joker,
Olbermann is an intellectual of the 1st order. As a brainwashed Neocon you comprehend his great mind. He's light years ahead of your thinking.

Fox is all lies! Olbermann only speaks the truth!

The Joker has absolutely no credibility at all.
    He changes stances, names, personas.
He's a fraud, and should be ignored.
Also, everyone that doesn't agree with his out of touch far right wing views are Islamic sympatheizers.

He belongs out in yesterday's trash.

Colbert is part of the renegade dimwit crew taking people's names.
Hey morons, ya notice most people are saying away b/c of your shenanagans?

The Joker is just a Rovian robot. Not to be taken serious.

Where's Bushkills? I need my daily fix of bad news. I hope more troops died in Iraq!

    Hey No Name/Buffalo,
People were staying away because you Olby Cult members hijacked this site with Bush, Bush, Bush. Me and 4 of my friends struck back and mocked your acts. Ha, gave you a taste of your own medicine. As soon as you Kosnuts start swarming and change the subject from Olbermann to Bush, we will hiajck names use cartoon characters to expose how the Left enjoys the bad news from Iraq and hope for a bad economy all for the sake of political power.

    Hey no name/Buffalo,
At least I use a name. You stopped using Bufallo because you were exposed as a Trailer park Irish drunk loser!

And despite the mountains of evidence the Olbersmurf Lemmings deny there's bias on this Pychotic's Program.

    Truly hilarious.

Let's see what Internet Libs do:

    1. Copy/Paste a long-winded and incorrect piece of drivel that even they don't read through.

    2. Change screen-names to appear to be a lot of different people.

    3. Be wrong about everything including their own name.

Quite the lives you've carved out for yourselves, eh?

    M Schultz,
Olbermann doesn't ask any questions. He repeats DNC talking points, Whatever is on the Leftwing Blogs and whatever Hillary says. Olbermann is a hack. He's not a serious thinker. He's no diferent than Hannity, Limbaugh or Culter.
As for Michael Savage, except on immigration he's right on the threat of Radical Islam. Why is the press covering up the shooting in Utah by a Bosnian Muslim, hmmm. How about that California College where protesters stomped the flags of Hizballah and Hamas. The University condemned the studenst saying they were creating a hostile enviornment. I bet if those were Muslim students stomping on American and Israeli flags that would be ok, right? Leftwing Hypocrisy!

    Mr. Shultz:

You made an outstanding post at 8:52 AM. Unlike most on this site, you get it, and you did a very good job of putting it into words.

    Mike,
What's so outstanding? Olbermann just repeats DNC talking points. He only presents one viewpoint. Hardly great questioning. He's a great Propaganda artist, I'll give him that. Yet you guys keep denying he's partisan. He's no different than Hannity and Limbaugh. He's a hack.
    Just admit it.

Well the week end is here & its going to busy one cause were trying to get about a couple 100,000 people together here in a warehouse we got excess to to have a prayer vigil for the Reps & Senators to have guidance to support Pres Bush to send more troops to put down the people in Iraq who are killing other people in Iraq & Americans there to & Im afraid it want do much good with the Reps cause if I understand whats going on now the DemocRATS are probably going to stab Pres Bush & the troops in his back today but I cant get a meeting together today cause I have to go to Columbus so I guess Ill just have to pray real real hard on that way & my wife too tho shes not going with me shes just working today at her own job in Dayton & I ask every 1 else to pray real real hard to take that knive out of the DemocRATS hands before they stab Pres Bush & the troops in his back & if they dont I may just pray they cut theyre own hands off with that knive when theyre trying to stab Pres Bush & the troops. But what the DemocRATS forget is that it takes the 2 units of COngress to pass a law & we have a chance a good chance with the Senate cause they dont get elected as much & have more sense & dont have a woman misleading them like the Reps do so Ill get back with the details & you can come help us pray that knive misses Pres Bush & the troops & strikes theyre own hands & Ill have a letter asking Pres Bush to change the Constitution so he can stay Pres until he wins in Iraq & he will & thatll be good cause those people & some people in the US of America need to be taught a good lesson & you can all sign it to while your their. I hope to see you be sure to come see me when your their.

After much personell reflecshun using my limited abillity to think, I have concluded that me and my 4 frends really are the idiots we sound like we are.

    Rudy,
I hope more troops die in Iraq. It makes me happy and I buy another 12 pack with my food stamos to celebrate!

    Shultz,
Do you really think Olbermann asks questions. Your delusional. He reapeats talking points!

Some bakwards Suthern conservative states usta have sturilizashun programs where people like me were prevented from hapening but then the liberals stopped all that.

I have to go. I must collect my food stamps to buy another 6 pack of Bud!

"Olbermann is an intellectual of the 1st order."

I guess he does look like genius to the dumbass liberals and Olbyloons who post on this site, but to the rest of us with a working brain and an IQ higher than room temperature, he's a slanted, lame dumbass. Look at the way he was totally lost on the night primary election coverage, he was a lightweight compared to Russert, Brokaw, Williams and even Matthews who isn't the brightest light in the hall. They'd done their homework, he hadn't. He's intellectually lazy and intellectually dishonest. And your calling him an intellect of the 1st order reveals what your intellect truly is.

M Schultz, you failed to address my request for some illustrations supporting your claim. You did, however, manage to restate the premise of your first argument with no new ideas and absolutely no attempt to document anything you have said in either post.

Let me repeat the question and its basis for your convenience.

    "-----------------
"Others, moderates and liberals, most often seek out a variety of voices and opinions.

Again, I would appreciate any citations that you have to support this argument from a finite source, Olbermann Watch.

As you told Mike, 'one tries'. That is an encouraging attitude. Based on your words, I am sure you will try to back up your argument as I have requested.

    Janet Hawkins
    AKA Grammie

    Janet:

What if I give you an example, using an issue you just cited...Global Warming, since you have stated in the past that you view me as a classic 'liberal:

While I don't doubt for a minute that warming is happening, I do entertain some doubts about how much man is responsible for it, and even more doubts about whether or not there is any practical way it could be stopped.

So here you have an example of what M Shultz is talking about. Contrary to popular conservative belief, all 'Liberal/moderates' do NOT hold the same collective mindset on this, or most other issues. Because of this, The right wing uses these nuanced views to create the talking points - "the Democrats don't take a stand", or "they don't have a plan", or "they don't know what they believe", which is nothing but a load of bull.

This so called "liberal vs Conservative" war the the far right keep citing is reality ONLY in their minds. The majority of America is somewhere near the center...always has been, and always will be. Unfortunately, one of the faults of our two party system is that the fringe elements hold far too much sway, and we, as a result, are often left with nothing but the classic "lberal vs conservative, lesser of two evils" choice on election day.

FDR loses 500,000 troops and he is revered
bush lost 3100 and he is hammered, even though this war is far more complex and difficult then the one FDR chose to wage.

thank god the democrats of yesterday were not as weak and pathetic as todays democrats/socialists. the liberals do nothing but feed into the enemy's propaganda, which is why democratic talking points sound alot like al queada and iranian rhetoric. stop undermining the most important conflict in our history.

it is unbelievable that liberals are willing to give a victory to islamic radicals in a post 9/11 world to further their own selfish, socialist agenda. it is a disgrace.

stand with bush, stand with general patreaus, stand with our troops, and if you don't, you are no better then bin laden himself.

"thank god the democrats of yesterday were not as weak and pathetic as todays democrats/socialists"

Don't forget the registred independents and moderate Republicans who also think this war is a disaster. It seems only the hard core right have the stomach for bankrupting the country and destabilizing the mideast

"stand with bush, stand with general patreaus, stand with our troops, and if you don't, you are no better then bin laden himself."

You should run on that in 08 "70% of America is no better than Bin Laden!" I vote that as the Republican campaign slogan.

FDR was waging a moral war waged for all the right reasons, with our very survival at stake, against actual Nations that had either attacked or invaded us or our closests allies.

This war was started by us against a nation that had not attacked us, had not really even threatened us, and our very survival was hardly threatend by Iraq....ever!

This war was never anything but a very risky experiment in nation building and regional transformation, but it was sold to the public and Congress for very different reasons.

See moral equivalents between the two all you want MD, but they exist only in your mind!

    Joker,

Olbermann is nothing like Hannity or Limbaugh. These two men are successful, entertaining, informative and bright.

Olbermann is a complete idiot who thinks he's successful, entertaining, informative and bright. But he's a hand puppet for the Clintonistas of this country.

Matt mush on Hannity & Limbaugh: "These two men are successful, entertaining, informative, and bright."

Well, oh dull one, you got the first two correct. Two out of four is good in baseball, though.

Anyone who believes the last two are just dim witted lemmings being led by their personal Pied Pipers!

Mike, you are responding to my question in such a way that should be overwhelmingly evident here daily if M Schultz's statements are correct. And if they are that abundant M Schultz should have no problem finding several and quoting them.

Surely finding and copying a few of these examples would have taken less time and effort than it took for him to repeat and restate his original comment in over two pages. And your answer can't be included. It is too akin to getting a copy of the big test the day before.

If you have ever commented on GW previously I don't know. I may have missed it or I don't remember it. However, I don't remember anyone else from the progressive side of the aisle that resembles yours.

M Schultz desn't seem to have any problem speaking for himself often and at length. I'm sure he will do it in this instance too.

    Janet Hawkins
    AKA Grammie

PS If I ever said I consider you a clssic liberal it must have been after my fifth or sixth double Absolut on the rocks.

    From http://www.answers.com/topic/liberalism:

".....liberals in the late 19th and early 20th centuries advocated limited state intervention in the market and the creation of state-funded social services, such as free public education and health insurance. In the U.S. the New Deal program undertaken by Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt typified modern liberalism in its vast expansion of the scope of governmental activities and its increased regulation of business."

Note the difference between classic liberalism and the turn it took to produce the modern liberal, which I think fits what I know of your opinions fairly closely.

Sorry I can't agree with you. Perhaps one day, if I regain my humanity, I will study at your feet. Or not.

"Olbermann is a complete idiot who thinks he's successful, entertaining, informative and bright. But he's a hand puppet for the Clintonistas of this country."

But gosh, if only he were a hand puppet for the Neocons, then I would love him and pray to him nightly. right Matt?

The problem with you neocons is your in denial. Olbermann is a very inquisitive person seeking the truth. He has on non partisan experts who analyze the events of the day through neutral eyes. He doesn't kiss up like Orally to the Right. That's why you dislike him. He has on many occasions attack Democrats too. He has no agenda what so ever. He just seeks answers.
He's fair and open minded to both sides.

You Cons can't stand the fact Olbermann analyzes the news. He has no opinion. He calls it like he see it. The truth upsets you Repugnicans.

Matt this is your last warning. Stop the name jacking.

    Grammie,
As usual- you are handling the debate amazingly. I just am adding my two cents to say its nice to see your name pop up here today. Don't be a stranger!

The problem with you liberals is that you think just because there are no WMDs and because, the war cost way more than expected, and because the country has fallen into a civil war and because the insurancy is not in it's last throes that bush should be held accountable. it's as if you think the buck stop heres applies to junior.
Well let me tell you something he has never had to face responsability in his life and You the AMerican people are not going to make him start!

Benson, thank you and thank you. I enjoy the site better when you are here.

    Janet Hawkins
    AKA Grammie

Ditto- And take care of yourself girl, as the stress you pick up here could take decades of your retirement!

Stop name jacking! That's why I don't use any name. So you can't name jack!

    You were warned Benson.

It’s 4 a.m., May 10th, the ancient city Al Basra.
Arana Hafiz is awakened by the cries of her child.
Katara Hafiz, now eight months old,
    Only daughter of Arana, should be asleep;
Instead she is awake, and obviously not well.
Her mother turns to comfort her.

    Arana’s husband has vanished.
Captured by the British in the
    Short bitter fight for Basra,
He was led away with others,
    Hands bound with plastic handcuffs,
    Blindfolded, driven into the dust.

Arana, alone to fend for herself and Katara
Depends on her in-laws for food; her
Own family is far away in the north.
Communication during war is hard; besides
    Her relatives are poor, with
    Many people to support.

    Her hand on Katara’s forehead,
Arana is alarmed at the heat of her child.
    The fever has increased, and she worries;
Katara’s skin is dry and hot, she’s dehydrated,
Will not feed, rejecting food when last she tried.
Katara in her arms, Arana sings a melody.

    It’s a home-town lullaby about a spring lamb:
How the mother licks her newborn young,
    Nuzzles her nose and cheeks,
    Inhales deeply of her smell,
And how when the sweet baby nurses
She and the mother lamb find love.

Just as the song ends, a kiss planted,
Katara wails, watery stools soil the bedding.
Alarmed, Arana leans to the water bowl, dips rags,
And wipes her child clean. A dampened cloth
    Becomes a cold compress. Arana
Decides to rush her daughter to the doctor.

As she leaves she prays to Allah for protection.
The hospital is fifteen dangerous blocks away,
Streets littered with garbage and debris, and
A woman alone is an easy target. Banditry
And violence have spread faster than disease.
    Afraid, she grabs a knife.
Cautiously, Arana scurries door to door,
    A lone car rumbles past, exhaust fills the street;
Its occupants peer from open windows, silent,
Not seeing Arana hugging her small bundle,
    Crouched and hidden behind
The charred wreck of a Mercedes.

    She trudges on, Katara quiet.
A stray cat leaps across her path; startled,
She pulls the knife from beneath her garments,
But relaxes as the feline grabs a mouse
And runs on. With only five blocks left,
    Arana begins to feel safer.

Suddenly a figure jumps out and blocks her path,
“Stop woman!” a man’s voice insists.
Her grip tightens on the kitchen knife.
The bundle that is Katara attracts his attention,
“What do you have there?” he demands,
He reaches forward to grab it from her arms.

Arana pulls out the sharp knife
And swipes down hard. The steel blade
Slices quickly into the extended hand,
Blood spurts from the wound, "Aii!" he screams.
Reeling back in pain, her assailant
    Turns and runs.

Arana also turns and cuts across the street,
She drops the knife, frightened by her own ferocity
Afraid that she will be pursued. The
    Last remaining blocks pass quickly,
Approaching the hospital, she sees lights
Fed by generators provided by the British.

The steps are crowded, people shove and yell.
Her daughter is still breathing, but her
Tiny face is pale, her lips are dry.
Arana races to the entrance desperate
And exhausted. A British soldier stops her,
“There’s a line ahead of you,” he says in English.

Arana does not understand. She pushes forward.
The soldier grabs her arm, and opening her blanket
She shows him her sick child. Tears
    Stream down her face in frustration;
After all her effort and travail, she has arrived
    Only to be stopped.

Seeing the small sick child the soldier relents,
Lets her pass through the doors. The
Space inside is filled, coughs, cries,
Moans and yells of confusion fill the room,
Bodies piled on seats, spilling across the floor. And
At the far end, one man in white surrounded.

    Cholera has overtaken Basra,
    Vibrio cholerae bacteria runs rampant;
Spread by contaminated water in a city
Desperate with thirst, the disease has become epidemic.
Stripped by looters following the allied advance,
    Basra’s purification plants stand idle.

Arana backs to the wall and slumps, sobbing.
The stress of her effort finally catches up.
She hugs her daughter and softly cries in despair.
To her left a man with his hand crushed
Faints hard to the floor, no one helps.
Arana buries her face in Katara’s blanket.

At 10 a.m., bright sunshine streaming in,
A hand shakes Arana, she awakens, confused.
Lifted to her feet by two men in green, she’s
Led to an open door, the crowd parting.
Dazed, she comes to rest in a chair.
Her dead child is removed from her arms.

In Washington, the press corps attends a briefing
On Iraq. Rumsfeld announces the situation’s improved.
Reports of violence and anarchy are overstated,
Order and basic services are being systematically restored,
“These problems are just,” he pauses for a sip of water,
“Temporary and unfortunate results of war."

Okay kiddies! Class is in session professor Puck is here!

    Non-Binding

    Non- (prefix): not

For the clueless- Prefix(N): A letter or group of letters that comes at the beginning of a word AND has a meaning of its own.

binding (verb): to hold or restrict by force or obligation.

Again for those that slept through English class.

verb (n): a word that expresses an act, occurence, or state of being

Not to hold or restrict by force or obligation.

Can we just say this is a new version of " I voted for the War, before I voted against it."

Non-Binding = Just another Democrat Dog and Pony Show.

Or! This is just like "Seinfeld". A Show about nothing.

Wait! We could say the same thing about Countdown! A show about nothing.

The difference? People tuned into Seinfeld.

They also tune into somebody else

    Total viewers 2-14-07 From ICN

    Puck,

    Bill O'Reilly: 2,825,000
    Olby: 25,825,000

    Keep posting lies, son!

    Yes son you're doing good!

If! Countdown, according to MSNBC "is one of the most popular cable shows".

Then what in the world is Fox News powerhouse "The O'Reilly Factor?

Well it looks like Olby will be going up against "The Malkin Factor" tonight.

Sucks when you lose to the third string.

"Then what in the world is Fox News powerhouse "The O'Reilly Factor?"

An overrated piece of sh-t like American idol?

O'Reilly's program is informative, fair and insightful.

Olbermann's program is preaching to left-wing nutballs who don't know jack.

    Mike:

saddam hussein did attack our allies(israel), he did threaten our interests(bribing security council members with oil), murdered over a million people( iraqis, iranians, kuwaitis, israelis, etc.), defied 14 UN resolutions, and was seen as a grave enough threat that bill clinton, not george bush, made it US policy to change his regime. perhaps senator clinton should probe her husbands use of faulty inteligence in creating the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, but no that gives her no points for the 08 race does it.

the greatest disgrace is the media's portrayal of this war, somehow making iraq seem more destructive a conflict then germany, japan, korea, or vietnam. its an art, to twist logic and reality to shift 3,000 casualties to somehow be more of a loss then FDR's 500,000. trumans near 100,000 in ww2 and korea, johnson's 60,000 in vietnam. its the same artful technique that managed to make vietnam nixon's war when it was kennedy and johnson that got us in there in the first place.

this silly non binding resolution is for political gains only, and it is sad to see democrats trying to win elections on the blood of our troops. bush is the only one acting like a leader and not a politician. sometimes doing the right thing isnt the popular thing. bush doesnt make national security decisions based on public polls, and anyone who does is a fool. uninformed everyday americans are not capable of making these decisions. polls are foolish, asking a steel worker in PA or a watress in NY or an actress in CA what we should do in iraq is stupid and childish. everyone wants the troops home, but the democrats want them home now, not to keep them safe( a phased withdraw would take nearly a year anyway) but to hang a loss on bush and run on it for president. thats it. the dems see sadyr on the run, they see al masri wounded, they see iraq's gov't stepping up, and they need to stop it for their own selfish political ambitions.

I guess the reason Mama's Boy Keith Olbersmurf won't have anyone on his Idiot Show that will challenge him is because he knows he's dead wrong on everything.

Why else would he have discredited liberal waste after discredited liberal waste every night?

Woogy has apparently hit his heads on more subway doors than Olby has when he opined, "Olbermann is a very inquisitive person seeking the truth. He has on non partisan experts who analyze the events of the day through neutral eyes. He doesn't kiss up like Orally to the Right. That's why you dislike him. He has on many occasions attack Democrats too. He has no agenda what so ever. He just seeks answers. He's fair and open minded to both sides."

Olbermann doesn't present opinions or FACTS from the "other side". It's all-liberal news, all the time and it's not just liberal it's far-left propaganda usally pulled straight from the Blue Blogs or websites. He doesn't have guests on who present any view other than those that reinforce his own. He panders to his lefty audience and yet there are some of those of you who seem to think he's putting on a real news show. He's not. He stays away from topics that would paint his beloved Democrats in anything but the most favorable of lights. You only like him because he Bush-bashes and kisses Democratic ass. If he stopped doing those things and went to presenting a straight up and down news program, your heads would explode. So would his. He kisses up the left far more than Fox News kisses up to the right and that's really saying something. And Woggy? Why don't you name those "many" occasions where he's "attacked" Democrats. Name 10. Go ahead. Do it.

    MD,
You are a war mongering chicken hawk.

"O'Reilly's program is informative, fair and insightful."

Right eing nut jobs sure love the factor. Probably because of the far right socially conservative views of the host.

-- If Countdown "is one of the most popular cable shows". Then what in the world is Fox News powerhouse "The O'Reilly Factor"?
-- Well it looks like Olby will be going up against "The Malkin Factor" tonight. Sucks when you lose to the third string.

That's what I get for reading only the top portion of your post. you are matt and it gets quite a bit dumber as i read on. my bad everyone.

I'm just a drunken White Trash inbred drunk!

"bush doesnt make national security decisions based on public polls,"

Nor does he make them with consent of advisors or military experts. he makes them with his gut. That is every bit as stupid.

"but the democrats want them home now, not to keep them safe( a phased withdraw would take nearly a year anyway"

Some do, so do some Republicans. But the majority of Democrats want a re-deployment akin to the Baker-Hamilton report. (Which by the way was a bi-partisan study.)

"I'm just a drunken White Trash inbred drunk!"

I'm sorry for your trouble Matt. You should consider going to AA

    Good evening Mr. Secretary." Bernice
Feingold gestures to a seat across the room,
Resumes making notes on a small pad of paper,
Looks up, smiling, “How are you?” she asks gently.
On the dark green couch, hands folded in his lap
Secretary of State Colin Powell shakes his head.

    Bernice looks interested and concerned,
“Not too well I see, tell me what’s going on.”
Since December, Proud Powell has been her client,
Coming once a week, sometimes more,
Based upon how well he’s holding up.
    He’s not making rapid progress.

“The bastards won’t stop,” says Colin.
“Go on,” says Bernice, voice steady.
“It’s just more of the same, everyday,
No matter what I do, they never stop!”
He leans into the couch, head back, eyes closed,
Bernice observes his thick carotid pulsing.

“Did you try what we discussed?” she asks.
Proud Powell is staring at the ceiling.
“I tried, but they just laughed.” He sighs.
Bernice sees that his chin trembles,
He’s withholding tears, she notes, decides to press.
“And that makes you feel what?” she asks.

He stares past her avoiding her eyes.
She adds, “I’m sure that makes you sad.”
His eyes begin to fill with tears,
He swallows, his chin wrinkles tightly.
He looks into her eyes; she sees
A tear roll down his cheek.

“It makes me sad. It also makes me mad!”
    The session’s finally started. "I
Worked hard to get to where I am, a
Black general in a white man’s world, imagine!
Now Secretary of State, I feel lost, as though
My soul left with my uniform.”

Bernice thinks of “Soul Man” by Sam and Dave,
Recalls the tune. Focus, she says to herself.
“We’ve covered some of this before, when
These kind of feelings have emerged. You
Told me the struggle makes you stronger.
    Has that changed?”
“No,” Powell responds, “but perhaps I have.”
“In what way? Tell me more,” she asks.
“Well, after years of effort, years of work,
Dutiful and loyal, devoted and true,
I shouldn’t have to work that hard,
I deserve more respect, if not admiration.”

Bernice knows that Proud Powell’s in trouble,
That the Bush gang are macho toughs.
Colin, son of Maud and Luther, succeeded
In the Army, rose in the ranks by
Pleasing white men. Now on equal footing,
He can’t hold his own against them.

How to help this man regain his stature
    Without sacrificing his basic goodness?
    Bernice asks herself. Fairness
And justice matter to him, more so
Than to the others in the gang. He's right,
It’s all about respect, she decides.

“Can you give me an example, something recent?”
Bernice probes for something she can work with.
“Sure. We were meeting at the White House,
Rumsfeld, Rove, Cheney and I. We
Ordered lunch, I was having a Cobb salad,
I try to watch my carbs.

“The conversation was casual, we’re eating,
And we each ate something different, me my salad,
Rumsfeld, he was eating a sandwich, liverwurst.
Cheney? I can’t remember, he eats weird stuff.
Anyway, the President walks in, nothing unusual,
Sits on the couch, and looks around.

"'What’s up guys?' It’s his happy voice,
You never know what you’ll get when he walks in.
And then Rove, I still can’t believe this, says,
‘We’re eating lunch, sir, me, roast beef,
Don’s having liverwurst on rye, and Colin
It’s Cobb salad. They ran out of watermelon!'"

“And what did the President do?” Bernice inquires.
“He laughed, of course…they all laughed.
And so did I.” Proud Powell stands up
Walks to the window, and back turned
    Continues talking. “I’ve laughed along
At racist jokes like that my whole career.

“When I was a recruit, they called me Zulu Congo.
I laughed along. As General Powell, the
Joking stopped, perhaps it was the stars.
Now it’s back, and I just grin and shuffle.
I’ve been placating whites so long
    My Uncle Tom is automatic.

“And then I get depressed,” he says.
“I’ve succeeded in the face of bigotry,
    Overt discrimination, racist white men.
Despite it all I rose up to the top.
After the war in ‘91, I could have run
    For President, myself.”

Bernice considers a suggestion; his honor
His sense of duty’s so ingrained, it’s killing him.
He needs to be respected but he
Also needs to please. “What do
You think would happen if you got mad,
Said ‘I don’t appreciate your stupid joke'?”

“How about ‘f--- you, a--hole?’” blurts Colin,
Smiling for the first time this session.
She says, “Why not, what could happen?
Seriously, Colin, you can’t go on like this,
Bottling things up, collapsing in depression.
They can’t take your success from you.”

“There’s more,” says Colin, back on the couch.
“This one’s hard for me…I’m embarrassed.”
“You know you can trust me,” Bernice leans forward.
“I know,” he says, “but this is difficult.” He sighs.
“My sex life sucks.” He looks sad.
“I can’t get it up. Nothing helps.”

    A man emasculated, ridiculed, demeaned,
    Often somaticizes his psychological condition;
The mental becomes the physical. Bernice
    Is not surprised. Viagra cures
The symptoms not the cause. She's
Unwilling to stoop to easy solutions.

“The link is clear, I think you know that too,”
She looks straight into his eyes. They stare
At each other in silence. Finally, Bernice
Says that his time is up, it’s a good place to stop.
“Let’s talk about this more next time,” she stands,
    “Meantime, keep taking your Paxil.”

The Secretary stands tall, almost at attention.
He nods his head, turns toward the door.
His hand upon the knob, he stops.
“One last thing,” he walks back to Bernice,
“I hate watermelon,” he says, smiling,
Turns and closes the door behind him.

It was a hot day in Qoms.
Ahmadinejad went and kneeled before the Ayatollah!
"What is thy bidding my Master?"
The Ayatollah responded, "you will travel east Lord Mahmoud, to our province os Baluchisatan. There you will contact my equal. Instructions will be given to you.
    Mahmoud reponded, "Yes my Master!"

Simple George, the President, looks sharp,
He’s special guest at an elegant fund-raising dinner,
A new organization deeply tied to Wall Street
And a fine source of campaign funds.
Given the special nature of the group, he will
Discuss his Mideast plan at the Jews for Bacon Gala.

At the historic Willard, near the Jefferson Memorial,
The room is filled with the wealthy and connected,
    Women wearing formal gowns, bejeweled,
Faces lifted, hair perfectly coiffed; tuxedoed men
With tanned faces and receding hairlines.
    The money behind Mideast policy.

Up on the dais, Milton Cohen,
Longtime CEO of Salomon Brothers, begins:
    “My friends, it is with pleasure that I introduce our guest;
He really needs no introduction, of course,
You know that, one of Israel’s greatest supporters,
The President of the United States!”

The room erupts in cheers, all stand,
    While Simple George shakes hands
Makes his way to the podium, scans the crowd.
He makes eye contact with old friends,
Points his finger, mouths hello to some,
To others waves lightly while he strolls ahead.

“Thank you,” he says, motions the crowd to sit,
“Thank you, it’s great to be here.”
The audience takes its seats, quiets down,
Hum of air-conditioning, ice cubes clinking,
    A few coughs, expectant silence.
    “Milt Cohen, distinguished guests, Shalom!”

The room is filled with whoops and cheers,
To hear this Goyim speak Hebrew is a kick!
The big-shots and their wives applaud,
Joined by Simple George so proud.
    He’d spent hours practicing
    Just this funny opener.

“You know, this job can be awfully stressful.
When it’s really bad, I get such a headache. Oy!
Last time I asked my doctor about it for advice,
He said ‘When I get a headache, I go home,
Put my head on my wife’s bosom, close my eyes,
And just like that,' his fingers snap, 'the headache's gone!'
“'Ok, I said, I’ll try it.' Next visit he asked me
‘How’s that headache remedy work for you?’
'Great' I said, 'and by the way, you have a lovely house!'”
The audience goes wild. They can’t believe it!
This is a classic Borscht Belt joke, immortalized
    In ‘42 by Milton Berle.

They like me, thinks Prince George.
“Seriously though, this job does cause headaches,
And often there are no simple solutions.”
The crowd gets quiet, The President is speaking.
“The Middle East is one such problem, as you all know,
But this administration is determined to succeed.”

He stops and drinks a glass of water, pulls out notes.
A teleprompter would be great, he thinks.
    He’s not used 5 x 7 note cards in a while,
Makes an absent-minded wave, and drops them.
They fall to the floor, two aides stoop to retrieve them,
Gather them up, hand them to the President.

Holding the stack he begins again, but
    The top card’s not the right one, they’re shuffled;
Now he has to get them into order. I’m gonna ream that aide
He thinks. “That chopped chicken liver made
My fingers greasy,” he ad-libs. The audience,
    Embarrassed, begins to stir.

He finds the the opening card, starts to speak,
Then realizes he is telling the headache story again
His aides exchange glances. George finds the next card.
“I was talking to Prime Minister Sharon yesterday,
And he agreed to follow my new Road Map to peace.
This is a good thing, real progress.

“The road to peace has been bumpy,
Filled with potholes, detours and wrong turns.
But now we have a map. We know where we’re going,
A map is a good thing. Peace is a good thing.”
The room applauds politely, but is restrained,
With a speech like this, who needs a map, thinks Milt.

“And the new Palestinian Prime Minister,” he continues,
“Mr. Abbas, he’s on the road Sharon’s on and I’m on.”
His syntax confuses the crowd, too many “ons”.
They sit silently. George takes another card.
“They’ve got Weapons of Mass Destruction; I promise you,
We’ll find them.” Damn, wrong card! George reddens.

    Now everyone is quite confused.
Was he talking about Israel’s nuclear bombs?
Desperate, Simple George ad libs again,
“That Iraqi war was some Mitzvah, wasn’t it?”
He grins, but his eyebrows display distress -
He turns to his aide and gives the curve ball sign.

Secret Service agent John Demaine gets the signal,
He’s been given the “end the speech” sign.
John walks across the dais, hands George a note.
A simple blank note is the favored device:
Simple George, opens it, pretends to read,
Nods his head, and delivers his last lines.

“Looks like I have to leave, something’s come up.
You know Israel has our full support,
We are working hard to keep the peace.
Thanks for inviting me, and like my mother used to say,
‘Don’t be a stranger!’ Goodnight and God Bless America.”
He waves, shakes few hands and walks out.

The hurried exit is accompanied by confused applause.
Milt Cohen, looking non-plussed, takes the mike,
“Thank you Mr. President, we love you,” he says,
“And we won’t forget all you’ve done for Israel either.
Next election you can count on us!
Now for a little song, here’s Lettie Mishnow!”

    Mahmoud leaves the room.
The Ayatollah recieves a a video call via MSN Messenger. He answers," Lord Olbermann, what do want do you want. I already emailed you the daily talking points!
Keith responded, " Master there is a disturbance in the Media. People are on to my support of your cause."
The Ayatollah said, " Yes, I know. That's why I sent Lord Ahmadinejad to the our province of Baluchistan to meet wih my equal."
Keith asked, "Master is that wise, if there's photos of that meeting how will I spin or cover it up."
The Ayatollah visibly upset and angered responded, " Lord Ulbermonn( his secret Islamic name)you have yor orders and will comply. Everything is going as I had forseeen Ha ha ha ha!"
Keith's face turned red, he thought to himself, "I'm doing this for money and my hatred of Bush." He then said to the Ayatollah,
" Yes my master I will obey!"

I ran across a link at Newsbusters to the World's Shortest Political Quiz.

    http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html

I linked and took the literally shortest political quiz ever, ten questions. My score had a small surprise for me in that I scored conservative but not as much as I self describe, far right conservative. After reading some of the faq and thinking about it I'm convinced that the quiz pegged me better than I had.

Also, the entire premise of what political labels mean and why we have boxed ourselves into a great deal of mislabeling is very interesting and I think very accurate. Hope some of you will give it a whirl and come back and share any results you want to.

I scored 90/40, or was that 40/90. Whatever, it was both fun and informative.

Mahmoud's convoy arrived in Bampur. It was hot and he was sweating and smelly. He changed cars in the convoys to avoid the spy satellites and the Zionist agents. He then was approched by a man with a turban and a thick Arab accent.
"Lord Mahmoud, my master is expecting you."
As he walked into the hut he saw a picture that captivated him. In Arabic the portrait said, The great Raid on New York. Mahmoud remebers that day fondly, as mayor of Teheran he remebers celebrating the attcks. he thought to himself
" Why could the Qods Force or Hizballah have done it. I give my Sunni brothers credit they changed the world that day."

Paul Wolfowitz sets aside Thursday afternoon,
An informal gathering to discuss a looming problem.
Wolfowitz is convinced the U.S. is in danger,
That other countries with evil intentions
Will soon facilitate a nuclear attack on U.S. soil.
He invites Cheney and Foul Rumsfeld to his office.

At 2 p.m. May 29th, the meeting begins.
No one else is present, recorders turned off.
The topic highly sensitive, easily misunderstood,
Best there’s no record kept, no notes taken.
Like the Nazi Wannsee conference, it’s about
A final solution, in this case nuclear.

“Dick, Don…thanks for coming,” Wolfowitz smiles.
“I ordered up some snacks, want a drink?”
“Sure,” Foul Rumsfeld answers, “Diet Dr. Pepper.”
“Herbal iced tea,” adds Cheney, “With lemon.”
“No problem,” Wolfie replies, and on the intercom
Requests drinks to be brought in.

After all have settled in, pleasantries exchanged,
    Wolfowitz introduces the topic: Countering
The threat posed by rogue nations
    Engaged in developing nuclear weapons.
“The news about Iran, you know about it, right?”
Dick and Don both nod. Wolfie continues.

    “They’ve made some real advances,
In two years could have the bomb.
The question now is what to do, engage
    In media bluster, diplomatic dances,
Or take grander action to resolve the issue:
    A pre-emptive strike, facilities destroyed.”

“Destruction is ruled out,” Foul Rumsfeld
    Gruffly responds, “too much fallout.
We can’t predict the effect of an attack.
The explosive force will spread radiation,
Make a large area of Iran uninhabitable,
    Including, God forbid, oil fields.”

He sips his Dr. Pepper right from the can.
It drips on his tie, where it soaks in.
Cheney notices and reaches out to wipe it,
But Rummy moves back out of reach,
“Take it easy Don,” says Dick, “I’m trying to help.”
“Jesus Dick, you’re getting to be a real pain in the ass!”
“I hate to see a nice tie ruined,” Dick offers,
“Here, take this napkin and do it yourself.”
Don looks down and sees the spreading dark spot.
“sh-t, God-damn it!” he exclaims, now wiping.
    Wolfowitz sits patiently, watching them
Bicker like an old married couple.

“Hey, guys,” he interjects, “Can we get back on topic?”
“Okay,” they say in unison, but Rummy continues to wipe,
While Cheney looks at Don's tie, distracted.
“Please,” Wolfie’s voice goes up a bit, insistent,
    “We don’t have a lot of time…please?”
Dick and Don turn their attention to Paul.

“All right,” Wolfowitz goes on, “Destruction’s out.
What about regime change?” Both other men perk up.
They love regime change best of all! “And how
Do you propose that happen?” Cheney inquires.
Picking up a baby carrot, he pops it in his mouth,
    Chews, then chokes and coughs.

A carrot chunk flies from his mouth to Wolfie’s shoe.
Don notices, looks at Dick, and subtly points,
While Dick, done coughing, looks down and sees it.
Wolfie has not noticed, keeps right on talking.
The chunk is well-stuck, wet with saliva,
And Dick and Don begin to chortle.

“OK, where was I?” says Wolfie, getting testy.
Don and Dick are silent for a moment,
And then they both crack up laughing.
“No, go on, please,” says Dick, gasping.
They look down at the shoe and laugh louder,
Finally they are both red-faced hysterical.

“You guys are children!” Wolfie removes his jacket.
“What is so f---ing funny about nuclear war?”
Don and Dick point at his shoe. Wolfie
Looks down to the orange chunk, then sighs
Grabs a napkin and wipes it off, disgusted less
By the slimy chunk than such adolescent behavior.

“Look, this is serious, you guys need to pay attention,”
He whines, insistent, desperate. Dick and Don
Both well his senior, wink at one another.
“O.K. Paul, relax. We’re sorry, please go on.”
Don furrows his brow, looks serious. Dick
Goes for another carrot, but stops himself midway.

Wolfie continues, “Regime change is an option,
Especially with 200,000 troops at hand.
Let’s learn a lesson from MacArthur,
We’re on a roll, let’s keep rolling north.
Why wait to invade later when
We can do it now for less?”

Dick gulps his iced tea, smacks his lips, says “Ahhhh.”
Don grimaces, “Why must you make that noise?”
Dick, half-smile on his face, answers curtly,
“Because it tastes good, that’s why.”
“I think it’s impolite,” says Don, “Don’t do it!”
“Who made you boss?” says Dick gulping, “Ahhhhhhhhh.”

“You two make me nuts!” yells Paul.
“Please shut up and pay attention!”
The other two look up at Paul, then at their laps.
Foul Rumsfeld sticks out his lower lip, childlike,
Cheney sits quietly, and then looks up again,
    “May I have another carrot?”

    The two old men explode,
Drink sprays across the coffee table,
Cheney’s feet come off the floor,
His shoe hits the snack plate; carrots roll
Like logs dumped from a train car, in orderly fashion
They go over the edge one after another.

    Wolfowitz watches in disbelief,
The other two have lost it completely.
They pound the cushions and gasp for breath,
Cheney looks as if he’s having a heart attack,
Rummy wipes his teary red eyes.
Paul sits and waits for order to return.

“Perhaps we should meet another time,” he says softly.
    He’s depressed, confused and hurt.
“Perhaps that would be best, Paul,” says Rummy,
He walks to the door, “Coming Dick?”
Cheney grabs the lone remaining carrot on the plate.
“Right behind you Don. Good meeting, Paul!”

Ahmadinejad looked at the Arab Sheik in awe and tears poured from his eys. He said " Master Bin Laden, I have wanted to meet you! You are my hero by raiding NY, paying off their media and defeating American Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan!"
Master Bin Laden spoke " Mahmoud, my time is short and I will soon go to paradise. The time has come to implement Operation Tears of Allah!"
Mahmoud looked stunned and asked " Does the Ayatollah know?"
Bin Laden ansered " Of Course, we have planned it for years. But now is the time. The Elections approach and despite the defeat in Iraq, Guilliani leads our ally Hillary 53%-42%. We can't allow this. We will explode a nuclear device over Chicago and then Lord Ulbermonn will blame Bush, thus hurting Rudy'd chances.

    CONGRESS REJECTS BUSH'S TROOP PLAN
( not surprising since the troops do also )

The vote on the measure was 246-182.

"The stakes in Iraq are too high to recycle proposals that have little prospect for success," said Speaker Nancy Pelosi, leader of Democrats who gained power last fall in elections framed by public opposition to the war.

"The passage of this legislation will signal a change in direction in Iraq that will end the fighting and bring our troops home," Pelosi vowed after leading the House in a moment of silence as a sign of respect for those who are fighting and their families.

I see the Olbyloons are out in full force again, posting 50,000 word posts that no one will ever read. Please Bob ban whomever s doing this NOW.

Members of the House, from both sides of the aisle, have made it clear today that they support the troops by opposing an escalation of the war in Iraq. In what probably is the most important vote they cast since the authorization to go to war, members showed great courage in rejecting the false rhetoric from the White House that the only way to support the troops is to be silent.

Let's be clear, this was a very important vote; a significant step in the right direction. This vote rejected the idea of further overextension of our already decimated forces, for more of the same policy, which has already failed. That is supporting our troops. This vote sent a message to terrorists that we are serious about finding a more responsible course in Iraq that will allow us to then turn our attention to finding and eliminating them.

And ban reddog/Matt/Penguin/benson while you are at it, since this only happends when he starts acting up

Within the cloistered chambers of the Tomb,
The society’s gothic home, this mantra's
Been chanted by three Bush generations.

The members of this secret order: Yalies.
Their emblem: skull and bones. It’s shared with
Pirates, outlaws of the sea, who fly the Jolly Roger.
The German Brotherhood of Death, the Thule Society
Also adopted Death’s Head as their emblem.
Adolph Hitler joined that club in 1919.

    William Huntington Russell, U.S. General,
Founded Yale’s first secret society, in 1832.
His partner in the venture was Alphonso Taft,
Grandfather of the President of the same last name.
Members alive today include the powerful in
Mass media, banking, politics and oil.

On this warm and humid D.C. evening in June,
A small reunion of The Order’s in progress.
    “Bonesmen,” alumni of the brotherhood,
Blueblood sons of wealth, preppies all, they’re
    Each one of fifteen joined by solemn rites each year;
Tonight the global power elite celebrate.

“Who was the fool, who the wise man,
Beggar or king? Whether poor or rich,
All’s the same in death,” quotes Prince George.
The slogan appears above the “vault” in the Tomb's
sanctum sanctorum, room 322. A painting of skulls
Surrounded by Masonic symbols hangs below.

Heads bow at his sharp recital,
They all know the chant by heart.
“Bushido,” says Henry Luce of Time, “It’s perfect.
    It’s so fitting you’re Commander-in-Chief.”
George smiles. In his heart he’s had
    The same thought many times.

“How goes the New World Order?”
Asks Harold Stanley of Morgan Stanley fame.
More rhetorical than serious, he knows the answer.
Bonesmen accept in full their dedication
To use armed force and creative chaos, tools
That insure their continued control of the planet.
“It’s going pretty well,” grins George.
    “Afghanistan is in turmoil,
    Dependent on U.S. aid, completely.
The Taliban is scattered, running to the hills,
Pakistan is nervous, keeping India on edge.
The region’s in an uproar. Perfect chaos!”

“More, tell us more,” the whole group chants,
“OK” says George, clear-headed and sharp,
“We’ve declared perpetual war. North Korea’s
Building nukes, and the U.S. public is afraid.
We’re planning Patriot Act II, virtual martial law,
And all in time for next November’s victory!”

“Death equals Death!” they all intone. The Oval Office,
Sanctum sanctorum too, is silent. Eyes closed,
They form a circle, and each recalls
His own initiation: sexual confession, hours naked
In a closed coffin, oaths of silence; apprentices
To death and gods of war.

You're really a lousy author. But what do you expect from someone who's inbred!

    -------------

    He's got Boy George pegged.

There's no fool like a swaggering fool.
    Frank Rich said it best.

After screwing up so badly in Iraq,
and just dying to do the same in Iran,
George Bush is like some annoying, drunk, frat boy,
who just got his ass kicked in a bar,
and stumbles to his feet slurring, "OK, whish one of youse is next!"

I have found the unattributed source of these noisome and juvenile Iliad and Odyssey rip offs.

    Housing starts plunge
Housing starts fall much more than forecast, lowest level since '97; permits also fall as single-family permits hit 6-year low.
By Chris Isidore, CNNMoney.com senior writer
    February 16 2007: 11:52 AM EST

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Housing starts plunged in January to the slowest pace in more than nine years as the latest government reading on the battered housing market seemed to suggest it is not stabilizing as some had hoped.

New homes started in January fell 14.3 percent to an annual rate of 1.41 million from the 1.64 million pace in December, the Census Bureau reported Friday. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com had forecast a 1.6 million rate for.

Fourth-quarter report from Realtors shows largest and most widespread price drop on record. (more)
Stung by the slow housing market
Dave Corey has been flipping houses for years. But now he's stuck holding. (more)
    Defaults: Latest woe for housing
Borrowers with less than stellar credit could find mortgages out of reach - the last thing the struggling real estate market needs.

The number is not only well below the December pace, but it is 22 percent below the average for all of 2006, when housing was already slowing down, and about 32 percent below the record building pace through all of 2005.

    Latest prices in your hometown
The slump was widespread. Only the Northeast, the smallest region in terms of new home construction, posted a rise in starts compared to December. But starts were down 15.2 percent in the Midwest, 11.2 percent in the South and 28.5 percent in the West.

Applications for new home permits, which is generally viewed as a measure of builders' confidence in the market, fell 2.8 percent to an annual 1.57 million rate from 1.61 million a month earlier, which was a bit below economists' forecast of a 1.59 million pace.

The housing permit reading was helped by a second, straight month of strong permit application for buildings with five or more units. The permits for single-family homes fell 4 percent to a six-year low.

Wachovia economist Phil Neuhart said that the report suggests that those who believed that there was a stabilization in home building, based on the strong December report, were pre-mature. He said the jump in both permits and starts in December could actually have hurt January numbers, as an exceptionally warm and dry month across much of the country pulled some work that normally would have started in January into the December period.

"We have to remember winter months are volatile in this series," he said. "But we never thought we had found a bottom. We think home building will be weak through spring, maybe until the third quarter."

    Record slump in home prices
The one piece of good news in the report is it could help cut down on the glut of homes available for sale on the market, which has been pushing down prices for both new and existing homes. But it also shows continued caution on the part of builders.

"Builders could be seeing increase traffic but they won't start building new homes until they off-load their inventory," Neuhart said. "There are two sides to this, there's the construction, and then there's sales traffic. The reports showing some stabilization could be due to sales."

But stronger sales and even better housing prices won't help the nation's overall economy, which had depended on strong home building to spur growth through much of the decade. Neuhart said that Wachovia is forecasting that home construction will be a drag on the gross domestic product, the broad measure of the nation's economic activity, throughout all of 2007.

The housing sector hit a severe slump in 2006 after a record building boom in 2005 left a glut of homes available for sale on the market, pushing down prices. On Thursday, the National Association of Realtors reported the deepest and most widespread decline in home prices on record during the fourth quarter.

But some other recent readings have also suggested a more recent stabilization in the battered real estate market. The National Association of Home Builders' survey of its members, released Thursday, showed builders' confidence at its best level since June, although the builders surveyed still saw the market as a weak one.

The nation's leading homebuilders have all reported declining sales and prices for new homes, due greatly to the glut of new homes available for sale on the market. KB Home (Charts) reported a net loss of $49.6 million, or 64 cents per share, for the fiscal fourth quarter ended Nov. 30, earlier this week.

Other leading builders reporting weakness in prices and reduced sales include Lennar (Charts), Pulte Home (Charts), Centex (Charts), D.R. Horton (Charts) and Toll Brothers (Charts).

Judge: Winnie the Pooh stays with his owner
California court rule dismisses attempt by families of A.A. Milne and original illustrator to assign character to Disney.
    February 16 2007: 5:06 PM EST

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -- A federal judge in Los Angeles has rejected a Walt Disney Co.-backed attempt to strip rights to the "Winnie the Pooh" character from the estate of long-time Pooh licensee Stephen Slesinger, according to court documents made public Friday.

In a written order issued on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper granted the Slesingers' motion to dismiss the case, in which the granddaughters of Pooh author A.A. Milne and illustrator E.H. Shepard, sued to terminate the Slesingers' rights to the character and reassign them to Disney.

Disney was not a party to the case, but the company paid legal expenses for both women, according to Disney's attorney Daniel Petrocelli.

    The Pooh media war
Petrocelli said the ruling "has no bearing whatsoever on Disney's rights to Pooh," nor on a 2004 California state court judgment dismissing the Slesingers' long-standing royalty claims against Disney.

Slesinger's widow and daughter have been battling Disney in California state court for more than a decade over what they claim are billions in unpaid royalties from Pooh, which generated more than $6 billion in retail sales in 2005.

That state court case is on appeal and a settlement does not appear likely.

"If there were a reasonable view of their royalty interest, we could settle it in a heartbeat," Petrocelli said.

The federal case also appears at a standstill as a result of Thursday's ruling.

The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear the federal case and let stand decisions by two lower courts that Clare Milne could not void a 1983 agreement renewing the Slesingers' license.

Cooper's order on Thursday rejected similar claims by Shepard's granddaughter, Harriet Jessie Minette Hunt, who must now decide whether to appeal the case, Petrocelli said.

Stephen Slesinger, a New York television and film producer, obtained the exclusive merchandising and other rights to the Pooh works from A.A. Milne in 1930.

Slesinger and Milne's widow passed those rights to Disney in 1961 in exchange for royalties from the sale of Pooh products.

The Slesingers last month also filed a claim with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, seeking to cancel a number of trademarks they claim Disney illegally took out on Pooh.

Reports: GM in talks to buy Chrysler Group
Sources say the No. 1 automaker may buy DaimlerChrysler's struggling auto unit, according to reports.
    February 16 2007: 4:05 PM EST

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- General Motors is in talks to buy DaimlerChrysler AG's struggling Chrysler Group in its entirety, according to several reports.

According to the reports, sources in Germany and the United States said high-level talks between GM (down $0.14 to $36.30, Charts) and DaimlerChrysler (up $2.83 to $73.08, Charts) executives are taking place.

Chrysler, which has already announced plans to close plants like this one in Newark, Del., and cut 13,000 jobs, could be sold to rival General Motors, according to published reports.

Its German parent confirmed Wednesday it is looking at strategic options for the North American unit. When asked if those options included a sale or spin-off of the unit, DaimlerChrysler Chairman Dieter Zetsche responded "this means all options are on the table."

Chrysler Group announced Wednesday it would be cutting about 13,000 workers and closing plants over the next three years as a part of a restructuring plan aimed to restore profits by next year.

Talks of an alliance between GM and DaimlerChrysler was first reported recently in Germany's Manager-Magazin.

    10 cars worth waiting for
Other unnamed sources said to be familiar with the discussions confirmed the reports Friday for Reuters and the industry newspaper Automotive News.

DaimlerChrysler employed J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. to consider options for the Chrysler Group, to help the automaker explore strategic options, according to trade newspaper.

    For sale: A smaller Chrysler
But others are also skeptical on whether the discussions are real.

"This would be an at least $5 billion plus deal and GM is not that liquid right now," John Casesa said, an automotive analyst with Casesa Strategic Advisors, told CNN. "I'm not convinced at all and I think it's unlikely."

Other experts contacted by CNNMoney.com said that while a GM purchase of Chrysler appeared unlikely, they could see other buyers emerging.

"The challenge is who would be a buyer," David Cole, chairman of the Center for Automotive Research, said Wednesday of a possible sale of Chrysler. "Maybe a Chinese company that really wants entrance into U.S. market or Renault-Nissan would see it fit with its strategy. But it's tough."

    Chrysler's Valentine's Day massacre
Carlos Ghosen, the CEO of both French automaker Renault and Japanese automaker Nissan (Charts), had expressed interest in finding a North American partner to join the alliance between his two companies. Talks between GM and those two automakers last year were abandoned without any agreement.

Kevin Tynan, auto analyst at Argus Research, said Wednesday he believes Chrysler will end up being sold due to pressure from DaimlerChrysler's shareholders to undo the 1998 merger, but he thinks a sale to a private equity group is more likely than a combination with another automaker.

"There's value to those brands," he said. "I think relative to Ford Motor (Charts), there's less dead weight. Nine years later, it's probably the right thing to do. I think there's a feeling in Germany that it's time to cut bait."

Officials for DaimlerChrysler and GM issued no comments on the reports.

DaimlerChrysler has long tried to reverse the drop in sales with previous cost-cutting moves but slipped into the No. 4 spot last year behind Toyota (up $0.21 to $136.98, Charts) in the United States.

Other reports have suggested that talks between Chrysler and GM were more limited in scope than a full merger. The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the two were in talks to jointly develop a large SUV that would be similar to the Chevrolet Suburban, a product that Chrysler Group doesn't have in its lineup. The New York Times had a similar report Friday. Neither publication had their own reports on the potential merger talks as of mid-day Friday.

So please, keep your bigmothed leftwing hate lies to yourself, because there are people out there stupid enough to believe them ---

"I don't understand why you feel compelled to attack me because I was able to indentify the source of the plagiarism from whoever/whoevers and point out that it is noisome and juvenile."

I'm not attacking you Janet. You have a persecution complex. I am merely point out hypocrisy when I see it.

Seriously- it seems like the imposter is not around tonight which probably related to half-price brews at a Friday night happy hour. Enjoy the peace and quiet, as he has really managed to stir it up the past week. Grammie, you just seemed to have showed up lately, but it has been surreal with all the fake posts.

the democrats were touting jim baker and his comission over and over and over....until of course jim baker said the country and the congress should give general petraeus and the surge a chance to work......now we don't hear his name from liberals anymore do we....silly liberals and their despicle election tactics....stop using our soldiers lives to get elected.

    Obama Bicker talk:

    W. Bush is the most successfull president in a while"; - Damn if you arn't one sad case!

"The Iraq war is a tremendous succes, yet people don't want to continuie fighting it"; - If you call THIS success, I'd sure like to see YOUR definition of failure?

After the gloating has died down.... It was really bittersweet for me to have Keith get a new contract after his mockery of journalism for the past few years. On one hand I am bitter that a loser who butchers a news industry with hack journalism that picks and choses it's facts to promote an agenda while getting bad ratings, (AND they are crappy), should have his day on the chopping block. And I hoped that day was soon. But alas, the contract was renewed. But the sweetness is, the guy does pull you lefty moths to this website to defend his weak brand of journalism. And I relish 4 more years of hearing your anti-american propaganda. Game on!

Woogy: My definition of failure is so:

There is an invalant in another nation that wants to kill the United States in secret and when we go over there to stop his incredible hatred, we win against the tyranical dicator, and then some aftermath problems form, and we take care of those problems --- but then, h half of the nation starts moaning and groaning and complaining, and then ... all of the sudden we are losing and then we ar ein a "failure". A failure caused by the dumbness of a certain political party (that the avg. American has been affraid of these last few days).

"wants to kill the United States in secret"

There was no secret. Saddam thumbed his nose at us every chance he got.

If a guy lifts his coat pocket and claims he has a gun... I step back. But when I smack him in the head and beat the piss out of him, only to find he was just pointing his finger- I have zero regrets. The guy deserved a smackdown. But if my friends feel bad for him and hold me back from finishing him off. Something is really wrong.

Oh he is still here. same talking point as when he posted as the penguin, matt, reddog, batman, robin, joker, etc etc...

tactics....stop using our soldiers lives to get elected.

The left says that the evidence was "cherrypicked" ... but there really is no such thing as "cherrypick"ing evidence. Even the bare minimum is way too much for thisdefiant, maniac to have ---

Why do conservatives want our troops to get murdred? answer please.

Nameless: The troops were welcomed as liberators. Unfortunately, the left wing made us stay longer ...

Benson: "But if my friends feel bad for him and hold me back from finishing him off, something is really wrong".

With you, or with your friends?

An analogy like this is about as ridiculous as you can possibly get. There is no moral equivalent to individuals in personal conflict, and nations at war, which always involve millions of people, and possibly the future of the world.

This must be the "we put a boot up their ass" bullsh-t that misguided simpletons like Toby Keith sang about.

"unfortunately the left wing made us stay longer..."

Yet another in a long string of nonsensical comments from 'Obama Bicker'.

I capped off a commentary with a generic close. My point Woogy, is that Sadam's day was coming and I felt (as did many americans) that we better hit him before he sucker punched us. Thats all.

The left made us stay longer in the sense that they did not help out in the war --- and instead highlighted every conspiracy theory and reason not to fully complete this war in a calm and orderly manner.

But why did republicans lie to get us to war? why did they Cause a civil war in iraq.

Obama Bicker: How did YOU "help out in the war"? Did you enlist? Did you even try to enlist? Come on, 'Mr Patriot', tell us how YOU helped out!

I actually had you pegged you as being more intelligent than that, but now I see you have shown your true colors, which are NOT exactly the "Red, White, and Blue" you think they are, either.

The 'left' didn't lose this war. The only thing some of the 'left' did wrong was help give this screwball the authority to start a war with a country that didn't even attack us.

Since we made the unfortunate choice to go in, the second unfortunate choice was to stay on as an occupying force. The third unfortunate choice was to try to maintain an occupation with an inadquate force. The forth unfortunate choice was to ignor the needs of the people, thus losing the "hearts and minds" of those people. Winning the hearts and minds of the population was always the key to 'victory'. These are the things that sealed our fate, not the 'left', who had no real power anyway.

Statement #1: I never want to enlist as long as there are a bunch of war degradators making winning lots harder and enlisting less honorable.

Statement #2: Don't peg people. My true colors are of those that want to see this war a complete success, and the left are making it so much more of a hex on us.

Statement #3: If there was no leftist rebellion ... Iraqis would be dancing in the streets thanks to the liberators who stopped the insurgency !!!

Statement #4: For every thing there is a reason ... this war and the war path that Bush had are no exception. We ousted Saddam Hussein ... no thanks to you.

WASHINGTON, DC---President Bush announced Monday that his administration will permanently sever ties with the democratically controlled United States Congress, ending a nearly 220-year-old alliance between the two governmental branches.

"Our administration no longer recognizes the authority of this rogue body," said Bush in a televised Oval Office address. "Clearly, these combative men and women have a political agenda in direct opposition to our own. They have no concern for my national interests, and have left me no choice." ...

[Vice President] Cheney, speaking from an undisclosed location, said the White House's policy toward a Democratic Congress has always been regime change. "These people acted as though they had control over domestic issues, and were threatening to affect international policy, as well," Cheney said. "It was clearly time to put a check on this antiquated, ineffective system of checks and balances." ...

After delivering his announcement, President Bush reportedly entered a closed-door meeting with several key Cabinet members where his privatized Social Security plan was drafted, voted on, and subsequently passed into law.

Sweet! Thank you President Bush- Now I may actually have social security when I retire. And the liberals change the subject to the war!

Conservatives answer please? Why did you screw this war up so bad?

You know what else, I am not the type of person that takes politics personally. I do not care. However, I am not going to sit aidelly by as power-drunk left wingers sit there, and while the war goes the wrong direction, allow yous to play hero --- ohhhh no. Anti-warites are thee reason that we are having this much trouble in the middle east. For, we went through that battle heroically, and the left did not band the United States together in a time of need, played offense, and now look at everyhting. Look at the disaster in the middle east that you have caused. You really should be ashamed of yourselves.

    Obama Bicker:

STATEMENT #1: There will ALWAYS be "a bunch of war degaders" ANYTIME a war is started based on contrived information, and when our national security is not REALLY at stake.

STATEMENT #2: This war never had a chance of being "a complete success" because "comeplete success" involved changing a culture we didn't understand to try to make them like us. Only the truly arrogant thought this was possible.

STATEMENT #3: An absolutely ridiculous statement! You live in some kind of a fairy tale world.

STATEMENT #4: "for everything there is a reason". There was a reason alright - we elected the one screwball out of all the potential candidates who actually would entertain the incredibly stupid idea of invading and occupying Iraq.

You guys have got your excuses all made up in advance - THE LEFT MADE US LOSE!!!!

    What a dunce!

Ahh but you are not making sense. this was your war and the country 80% was behind you. did the other 20% cause it to fail when you own 3 branches of govermnt. I ask again conservatives why did you cause iraq to fall into civil war.

    answer please.

"I'm not attacking you Janet. You have a persecution complex. I am merely point out hypocrisy when I see it.

My persecution complex. Chicken Blogger never attacks. Oh no. He only points out the hypocrisy of others in the pure sweet innocence of his blinding light of truth. Or maybe not. Would the real CHICKEN BLOGGER please stand up.

Are you the CB that lamented that I did not die last year?

Are you the CB that opined that I was not posting because my health had declined and I needed a heart transplant.

Or, are you the CB who joyously proclaimed that I had died during heart transplant surgery and was now in hell.

Or perhaps you are you the CB who reiterated the same-o same-o death notice after I posted for a few days and then didn't post for two or three days.

The choices are dizzying. And so over the top for one little grey haired grandma.

Would the REAL chicken Blogger please stand up. If you said it, why not proudly proclaim your great achievement. After all, you vanquished with your mighty pen Grammie.

    What a putz.

You CHOOSE your wars carefully! That is the reason Vietnam was a failure, and THAT is the reason Iraq is turning into a failure.

    NOT, the 'left', you moron!

I can't prove nor can I disprove any substantive point based upon the contributors to this site. I don't know any of these people. I don't know what they believe. Unfortunately, such proof as I might offer comes only from demographics, primary sources and my own observations on a fairly large stage. From this site alone, I can form no opinion, offer no analyses to support ant conclusion.

the 2003 invasion most polls within the United States showed a substantial majority supporting war, though since December 2004 polls have consistently shown that a majority now thinks the invasion was a mistake.

Grammie- I witnessed all the posts that you request an explanation for and guarantee you will recieve none. CB has turned into an insult factory with each insulting post becoming more vulgar. I wish you would spend less time analyzing his motives, and look beyond the posts. ANYONE, left or right, with such hate has to have issues. Anonymous bloggers like you and I are targets for his misplaced hate. I implore you to move beyond his rhetoric, and continue to debate just the issues. Otherwise, you are wasting your time.

Woogy: Is there some subconscious admittance that you are thee perpetrators of some sort of Iraq War failure ?!?

    "CHOOSE" "THAT" "NOT"
Is this the truth, straight from the inner sanctum of your very own brain ?!? That you "CHOOSE THAT" [war] "NOT". Hmmmmmmmmmm ... very intriguing to me ... you almost admit what I mean: that you people chose to let all of the evidence of powdered WMD, missile tubing, Saddam Hussein forcing UNited Nations inspectors to certain weaponry compounds, and the statements of many Iraqi scientists that had full access of Saddam Hussein's laboratories after the war, that you "CHOOSE" "THAT" "NOT" through subconscious points made in your very own speech ...

"He only points out the hypocrisy of others in the pure sweet innocence of his blinding light of truth"

Why so bent out of shape janet? i was only pointing out you are fine when Republicans name jack and post bad limmercs etc.. etc.. But when a liberal does it it is juvenile. I'm sorry to point this out to you. Tell you I'll admit I'm wrong if you call the right wing name jacker juvenile.

    If I may. (ahem):

The idea that Conservatives were putting forth is that wars may take along time and that we need to see them out regardless of how many twists and turns there may be, Now, we are just biting eachother in the back, forgetting our ground, and we need to realize the truth before it is too late: that we can make this work. It will take a lot more time and patience, but we weill be there for outr troops and the middle east, no matter how painstaking that things may be or get .

I didn't mean to lie. I am honestly confused. Is thaat why The president declared the end of major combat operations so quickly? Because wars take time?

    Obama Bicker:

What goes on in that head of yours?

NONE of those things justified an invasion or an occupation.

"CHOOSING your wars" has everything to do with operating ENTIRELY in the best interest of your country and little to do with International law enforcement (ie, making Saddam pay).

The president ending the war quickly was a brilliant strageical move on his part. He made it so that, rather than playaround with Iraq, we see who the enemy truly is and flush then out of their dessert holes and passageways.

Unfortunately, the left wing made this nation conscious of that as some sort of bad thing. They shrieked out "controversy!!!" and "conspiracy!!!" so we did not have nearly enough time to make this war work out the way that it could have. Now we are back at square one, and the terrorists have advanced to level 10 of their evil plans, there is a nut in a neighboring country of Iraq getting whiny, and we are getting savaged in hellicopters, all while the left wingers sit there and whine, whine, whine their way to victory.

Guess what, left wingers, except for the occasional Barrack (a hard working, honest, human being) I am putting the kibash on your evil plans. No more are right wingers on this website going to be affraid of your egotistical and backwards ways ever again.

All I have to do is think how ---

You know what, I do not have to make sure of anything. I think that the American people already realize that this war is a great success. They are just way too scared to stand up to you all. If they say squat about leftist anti war insanity, the left get all up in arms that some of the people are juxtaposed against the United States of America. It truly is a shame.

Why am I not surprised by your oh so lame pithy cop out vs your loquacous rants.

You forcefully bellow your empirical conclusions that enshrine you on the moral high ground compared to your neighbors.

Challenged, you then go on to reiterate your superiority based on well known figures in place of your neighbors.

Now you are incapable of supporting your own argument here based on your assertion that you rely on such a large demographic on so large a scale that this site is too small to suppot your argument.

As you said, sigh, one tries.

What can one do when asked to provide proof of one's polemic, sigh.

Why one must punt or quick kick, of course.

    Great big sigh.

How does one deal with the hoi polloi? Sigh and sigh again.

Robert Fox has never scraped the surface of a single significant issue that matters to this nation.

The First Amendment of the Constitution requires a free press. Cox for Fox is nothing more than an attempt salvage the damage KO has done to Fox Noise and Bill O'lielly.

I'm a heterosexual, married male who has no performance issues, unlike your hero Olbermann. I'd say it's you who are obsessed with his non-functioning penis since you came onto a message board at 2:49 am to defend his dick. Face it, he is a dick and his own dick doesn't work and perhaps that explains his obsession with Bill O'Reilly.
