North DID NOT get the answers he wanted to bring home to Fox Noise.
But I do have to hand it to him for reporting what the soldiers REALLY said instead of just ditching the story like most Fox Noise reporters would have done.
Plus many of our troops are asking what the hell they are doing there in the middle of a civil war.

Most of them say that that they want to come home b/c the mission they went there for is not the mission it turned out to be.
They don't know why they are there in the middle of a civil war.

John Murtha , with his military background and close watch of what is exactly happening in Iraq has credibility when he said the troops are "broken".
He said it because it's true. He's a straight shooter.Our young men and women respect honesty.
The troops in Iraq know that their 3rd and 4th deployments are wearing them down.

They love John Murtha. They feel he is one of the few men in governemnt who is really ON their side.

A couple of days ago, Keith said that it was "valid criticism" to say that American Fighting Troops are receiving "obscene amenities". Now, he says that we are not giving them enough amenities.

Keith says that America is not doing enough to stop terrorists from reorganizing. This from the same man who criticizes tough interrogations of terrorists, criticizes listening to terrorist's phone calls, criticizes tracking terrorist's finances, and criticizes holding terrorist suspects in Guantanamo Bay.

A couple of weeks ago, Keith bashed the show "24" for trying to scare people with there depiction of a nuclear bomb going off in America. Today, Keith's guests included a former CIA Agent who says that "terrorists are going to detonate a nuclear device in the United States".

He bashes Nancy Grace for making a joke about being the father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby. Just a few days ago, Keith himself was making a joke about being the father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby.

Keith named a man "Worst Person in the World" because they were giving money to terrorist organizations. Would Keith have given that same person the title if he had not been a Republican? Going by Keith's track record, I doubt it. Speaking of Keith's "Worst Person in the World" segment, he did something tonight that was very interesting. He nominated Bill O'Reilly, because a newspaper understated his ratings by a million. If anybody can comprehend the logic here, please enlighten me.

There you go again trying to use WWII, and other such conflicts as analogeous to this one. I could give you my own WWII analogies, but you wouldn't like mine.

I've noticed that a favorite tactic of Iraq War defenders is to try to deflect attention to the rational for OTHER conflicts that have little, if any historical relevance. Is this the only defense you have? Does this mean you really don't have a stong argument in defense of THIS war? This is similar to their equally weak tactic of attacking Clinton as a way of 'defending' Bush.

The FACT remains - We invaded and occupied a country that did not attack us, did not threaten us, did not want war with us, in order to deprive them of weapons of mass destruction that they did not have - you cannot change these FACTS, so you bring up other conflicts, some of which were mistakes, and others were not...as a defense for this lunacy.

More importantly, we went against our OWN best interest when we invaded Iraq. The REAL fight was against the perpetrators that REALLY DID attack us - and they were in Afghanistan and Western Pakistan. We dropped the ball there in order to divert most of our limited resources against a regime that was already very well contained, and were actually serving as a barrier against the expansion of Al Queada. Yes MD - Saddam and Al Queada actually were enemies of each other!

Now, Bin Laden and his group are still out there and Al Queada is now getting stronger and stronger in Afghanistan and Pakistan, ALL because we took our eye off the ball and diverted our resources into this illogical war of revenge in Iraq.

Yet you people keep defending it, despite the fact that every reason given to Congress and the American people for doing it having been thouroughly debunked.

Then you close out by trivializing the death of 3300 Americans, and implying it is somehow OK because they were volunteers, and more were killed in other wars. How cold of you...cheer on OTHERS while THEY fight and die in your damned illogical war that has accomplishing almost nothing positive, but very much IS dimishing our standing in the world, depleting our miliary, dividing our country, and is actually strenghening Islamic radicalism.

Here's what happens when you deploy too few troops, too poorly trained, on an ill-defined mission, in a needless occupation-of-choice, which everyone but the neocons said was a lousy idea to begin with.

America ... Land of the Free Renditioners... Home of the Brave Torturers ...

Joshua Key was a typical recruit, hailing from Guthrie, Oklahoma, backed into a corner by economic necessity and broken promises of being trained to build bridges -- with an assurance of not being sent to Iraq -- because he was the father of three kids with one on the way. After years of moving around with wife Brandi chasing low-income jobs, Key succumbed to the misleading seduction of the U.S. Army, and with the help of a recruiter who coached him to lie his way through an application (dont mention the wife with the expectant baby) he entered the military. Even when it became apparent he`d been misled by recruiters and would be going to Iraq, he vowed to keep his head down, do his job, serve his country and come home to his family.

As a private in one of the first divisions to enter Iraq in the spring of 2003, Key participated and observed first-hand the breaking of promises made to Iraqis, the spiraling hatred of Americans and the self-defeating anarchy let loose in himself and his fellow soldiers as they moved throughout Iraq. "My own moral judgment was disintegrating under the pressure of being a soldier, feeling vulnerable, and having no clear enemy to kill in Iraq. We were encouraged to beat up on the enemy; given the absence of any clearly understood enemy, we picked our fights with civilians who were powerless to resist. We knew that we would not have to account for our actions. "

Boot camp prepared him to view all Iraqis as the enemy, and once on the ground in Iraq, he and his fellow soldiers were cautioned to avoid "fraternizing with the enemy" -- any Iraqi. Key wound up participating in what he estimates now to be more than 200 night raids on houses in residential neighborhoods, terrifying the occupants, destroying furniture, yelling, rounding up all males over five feet tall and sending them away, never to be seen again -- and reports that at the end of these hundreds of raids, not one weapons cache was found, not one cabal of terrorists was disrupted. It unleashed the worst in himself and his military comrades, and terrorized innocents.

As the months pass and Key`s group is moved around Iraq, morale hits new lows. No one gets more than two hours of sleep at a time. Mortars are falling all around nightly. Water is lacking. The heat is horrible. It seems nearly every place in which the troops are quartered has been bombed to smithereens by American forces and is a death trap, with unexploded material lying ten feet from their heads. As a private, he`s in no position to raise objections to the brutality he sees perpetuated by soldiers around him -- and this perhaps is the most devastating realization for him. Not only will he probably be disciplined if he speaks up, any act of whistle-blowing in the environment would be totally disregarded. In the thick of it as he is, with no access to higher personnel and his own officers participating in lawbreaking, he is in the grip of an ethical dilemma that eats away at him in small pieces daily.

His solution is to fall back on passive resistance, almost without planning. When his weapon becomes dysfunctional, he doesn`t have it repaired but carries it with him nonetheless, useless as it is. "I had not fired my M-249 since it had stopped working a month or two earlier. I had taken part in about two hundred house raids but had months earlier lost any believe in the cause. Most of my buddies felt the same way. The house raids were nothing but an excuse to insult, intimidate, and arrest Iraqis. They gave us a convenient target to vent our frustrations, never having any real enemies to kill in battle."

Desperately demoralized and depressed, he and a few of his fellow soldiers begin talking about shooting themselves in the foot to get sent back home. After one grunt from another company tries this, the commander of Key`s unit declared that "Any soldier who shot himself would be patched up in Germany and sent right back into action." The two events that crystallize for him the absolute immorality of the war is the killing by our troops of a 10-year-old girl he befriended by giving her MREs, and a scene he reports in nightmarish detail: coming upon American soldiers in the middle of the night playing soccer with the heads of four Iraqi civilians they had just killed. When he finally gets sent home for a two-week leave, he wrestles with the following: "I tried not to think about which was worse: beating up and killing the civilians of Iraq or refusing to do it any more and becoming a criminal."

He chooses desertion. His reflections as he moves around the country are devastating. "America felt like a dreamland. It seemed to me that not a soul in the country had the faintest clue about what I had been living through every day in Iraq ... Walking about the city, a person visiting from another country would have had no idea that the United States was at war in Iraq. When we prosecute an unjust war, or commit immoral acts in any war at all, the first victims are the people who were unfortunate enough to fall into our hands. The second victims are ourselves. We damage ourselves each time we violate our own true beliefs, and the wrongs we commit weigh on our shoulders to the grave. Ordinary Iraqis have paid very dearly for this war, and ordinary Americans are paying for it too with their lives and with their souls. How many lives and souls will we squander as a nation before the madness ends?"

Violence continued in Baghdad today, as a bomb in a truck carrying chlorine gas killed at least five people and injured many more, including many women and children poisoned by the gas, police said.

A car bomb near a food market in southeast Baghdad killed 5 and wounded 20. And another car bomb in southeast Baghdad killed 3 and wounded 14, near a gas station hit by a car bomb two weeks ago.

Insurgents have been able to shoot down more helicopters through coordinated assaults, captured documents suggest, and American and Iraqi military officials say they are concerned that militants are moving to areas where the American troop presence remains thin.

The insurgents didn't take long to figure out how to respond to Bush's surge plan, and are doing so with what appears to be increasingly sophisticated planning. Including using chlorine trucks as dirty bombs.

More hospital time for tiny baby 25 minutes ago

A premature baby who doctors said spent less time in the womb than any other surviving infant will remain in a hospital a few extra days as a precaution, officials said Tuesday.

Amillia Sonja Taylor, born Oct. 24 after just under 22 weeks in the womb, had been expected to be sent home from Baptist Children's Hospital on Tuesday.

However, routine tests showed her white blood cell count was low, an indication she could have an infection, said Dr. Paul Fassbach, who has cared for the baby since shortly after she was born.

"She has been fine," Fassbach said, but doctors are being extra cautious "now that she's going into the world."

Doctors say Amillia is the first baby known to have survived after a gestation of fewer than 23 weeks. She was just 9 1/2 inches long and weighed less than 10 ounces when she was delivered by Caesarean section. Full-term births come after 37 to 40 weeks.

Amillia, the first child for Eddie and Sonja Taylor of Homestead, now weighs 4 1/2 pounds and is just over 15 1/2 inches long.

She has suffered respiratory and digestive problems, as well as a mild brain hemorrhage, but doctors believe the health concerns will not have major long-term effects.

Amillia was conceived in vitro and has been in an incubator since birth. She will continue to receive a small amount of supplemental oxygen even after she goes home.

She was delivered because her mother was suffering from complications. Fassbach said that if doctors had known Amillia's real gestational age, they might not have intervened. He said he thought she was at least 23 weeks, and doctors were shocked when the Taylors' fertility specialist pinpointed the exact date of fertilization.

Fassbach cautioned against rushing to redefine the medical standards for fetus viability.

"We just don't know which 21- to 22-weekers are going to do well and which are not going to do well," he said. "I don't think we should change what we do, but it shows us we need to do more research and find out where our edge of viability is going to go."

Preterm births occur in about 12 percent of all pregnancies in the U.S., according to the National Institute of Health.

A car bomb near a food market in southeast Baghdad killed 5 and wounded 20. And another car bomb in southeast Baghdad killed 3 and wounded 14, near a gas station hit by a car bomb two weeks ago.

Insurgents have been able to shoot down more helicopters through coordinated assaults, captured documents suggest, and American and Iraqi military officials say they are concerned that militants are moving to areas where the American troop presence remains thin.

The insurgents didn't take long to figure out how to respond to Bush's surge plan, and are doing so with what appears to be increasingly sophisticated planning. Including using chlorine trucks as dirty bombs.

A source at police headquarters said the chlorine truck was rigged with explosives, suggesting it was a dirty bomb employing a readily available substance used to purify water. A second police source also said the bomb was on the truck.

It hasn't yet appeared in English language stories, but the Dutch press is reporting on what might be a trend:

India train blast probe gathers pace as peace talks proceed by Pratap Chakravarty

India has questioned a suspect and launched a manhunt for two more about blasts that killed 68 on a trans-border train as peace talks with Islamabad went ahead amid high security for all Pakistan-bound transport.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri arrived in New Delhi Tuesday for peace talks previously scheduled and called for cooperation to fight terrorism just a day after the firebombing of two carriages on the "Friendship Express".

"Incidents like these (the bombing), which are very heart-rending and which affect both countries and both peoples, can only add to the urgency of the need for cooperation," he told reporters after visiting Pakistani survivors of the blasts at a New Delhi hospital.

"We will need to cooperate with each other more meaningfully," he said, noting that an India-Pakistan anti-terror panel created last year to address such issues was scheduled to meet in Islamabad next month.

Meanwhile India ordered high security for all Pakistan-bound trains and buses.

"Security has been beefed up on all trains and buses between India and Pakistan and the railways have put a lot of systems in place, particularly on certain sensitive sectors," Indian Home Secretary V.K. Duggal said.

Besides the bombed "Friendship Express", the two neighbours operate a rail service between India's Rajasthan state and Pakistan's Sindh province.

Also, a weekly bus plies between New Delhi and Lahore in Pakistan, while a monthly bus service links India- and Pakistan-held zones of divided Kashmir.

India's state-run railways, which employ nine million people, will soon introduce "airport-style" check-ins and stringent baggage handling, a spokesman said.

Indian police said an investigation was in full swing and quizzed Karachi resident Usman Mohammed, who was aboard the train.

"He was in the compartment from where IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) were recovered after the blasts," Haryana state police inspector general Sharad Kumar told a news conference.

Kumar also said an intense manhunt was on for two men, aged between 35 and 40, who got off the doomed train minutes before the fuel bombs incinerated the two crowded carriages.

"The train slowed down at a turn near Diwana (village) when two men tried to disembark, and when the RPF (rail police) objected the duo said they wanted to go to Ahmedabad (city) and that they were on the wrong train.

"They got off just minutes before the explosions," Kumar told reporters in Panipat. "We are after them."

The trans-national train service, which began in 1976, has been suspended in the past following terror incidents, most recently between 2002 and 2004, after suspected Pakistan-backed militants attacked India's parliament in December 2001.

But in what commentators in both countries hailed as a new maturity in relations, officials refrained from finger-pointing and re-committed themselves to dialogue.

"Instead of indulging in a blame game, both governments are cooperating against what is clearly a concerted terror attack against India and Pakistan," India's Asian Age newspaper said.

The Post in Pakistan agreed, saying that "arguably the wisdom has sunk in that on both sides there are spoilers who do not want to see the peace process started in 2004 succeed."

Kasuri said he would not be scared away from talks Wednesday and Thursday with his Indian counterpart, Pranab Mukherjee.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh vowed the culprits would be punished, as India held back from blaming Muslim militants with links to Pakistan -- as it has done for almost every previous terror attack.

After 186 people were killed when trains in India's financial hub of Mumbai were bombed last July, police blamed Pakistan's intelligence agency. India halted the peace process for several months.

"The response (today) exudes maturity on the part of both, who have refrained from making emotive responses like after the Mumbai blasts," said C. Uday Bhaskar, a security expert with India's Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses.

Explosives ignited bottles of kerosene packed into luggage during the attack, setting off a fireball that enveloped two carriages of the train. Many of those killed were Pakistanis.

Indian authorities said Tuesday that 619 people had boarded the train, seen as a peace symbol, in New Delhi and the blasts happened just 100 kilometres (60 miles) out of the capital on its journey north to Lahore.

The Washington Post reported Saturday that staffers responsible for managing outpatients at Walter Reed have had caseloads of more than 125 patients each. Recovering soldiers face bureaucratic delays, overworked case managers and appalling living conditions, including black mold, cheap mattresses and cockroaches.

This news is an absolute outrage. And it's shameful. It is absolutely inexcusable that our wounded troops are coming home to such an unprepared and overwhelmed health care system (and please note, Walter Reed is not even a VA facility). Responsibility for this tragedy goes straight to the top. We at IAVA are demanding swift action from the President, Department of Defense and Congress to correct these problems. It is disgraceful that our country has sent troops to war without ensuring adequate care for the wounded.

Since that report was released, IAVA has been leading the charge to keep this critical story in the headlines and demand action from our elected officials.

My fellow Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans have vowed to continue our fight for proper care and resources for this newest generation of American veterans.

Last week IAVA member veterans from all over the country met with dozens of members of Congress who pledged to do all they can to care for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. Many will stand with us soon to support a critical bill for our troops and veterans called S-117: The Lane Evan Veterans Health and Benefits Improvement Act of 2007.

I hope I can count on the same lawmakers in the coming days to remedy these awful problems at Walter Reed. They must ensure that no man or woman in uniform comes home to such an unacceptable standard of care. If congress can make that guarantee, the news would be something truly worthy of non-stop coverage by the cable news networks.

Olby said that Arkin's piece was ""valid criticism" period -- and that includes the parts about the "mercenary soldiers and the "obscene amenities" they receive. To judge this criticism as "valid" means that Olby endorses it and thinks that it is true.
