Gail Shister of the Philadelphia Inquirer has writtern another in a series of typically fawning MSM articles on Olbermann:
But the article states that Olbermann is an only child, despite the fact that the existence of a younger sister has been quite well documented by none other than Olby himself! My first guess was that of course, no fact checking was done this being a major newspaper and all but here's where it gets interesting. The Olbyloons at Keitholbermann.org immedately noticed the error and decided to email the author to inform Shister of the error.
And what do you know, the author of the article emailed back and a curious exchange was had between Ms. Shister and the Olbyloon:
"How odd. I wrote to Ms. Shister, and just now got back a response: "Dear Ms. Shister: Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciated the article about Keith Olbermann and COUNTDOWN in Sunday's Inquirer. I'm sure the faithful have already written in droves to let you know that he does in fact have a younger sister. Otherwise I thought it was a great piece. Thanks again!
Gail Shister's Reply?
"Hi: A younger sister? He told me to my face that he's an only child. Please xplain... Best gs "
"Weird, right? I wrote back to her reply: "Wow, really? That's interesting. If you refer to the book THE BIG SHOW he co-wrote with Dan Patrick, his sister Jenna is mentioned. Also in his C-Span Q&A (available from Audible.com or iTunes Music Store) from early last year, he was asked about his family, and he talked about his mom, dad, his sister & brother-in-law, and his nephew Jake. He also mentioned the brother-in-law in one of his old Salon.com columns. I wonder if his sister prefers not to be mentioned, or worse, they've had a falling out."
So what do the Olbyloons do when confronted with the truth straight from the reporter that Olbermann's lied straight to her face? They do what they always do: Full Court Olbyloon Spin! Yes folks, it's our own version of March Madness!
OlbySpin Theory #1:"Maybe she needs to crank up her hearing aid a bit. Keith has been known to joke, "I'm my only child."
OlbySpin Theory #2: "I think Shister may have simply misheard a quip,. . If his sister didn't wish to be mentioned he wouldn't lie to the writer, he'd tell her off the record that he preferred she avoid the topic of siblings altogether in her article, and why.:
and from the source of all things Olbermann, dear deluded Quanlin:
OlbySpin Theory #3: "Well he was an only child for a long time. Since he was ten when his sister was born, he might have meant to say that he grew up most of the way as an only child. Those first ten years are the most formative (obviously). It could have been a misunderstanding about what period of time constitutes growing up."
