The Blue Blogs were atwitter over the past week with OlbyLoons commenting on the apparent demise of the #1 Keith Olbermann blog in the world. Here are some highlights...
Anti-Olbermann website quits after MSNBC host's contract is extended
The Raw Story
You have got to be kidding! Olbermann a bully? What is wrong with these Conservative nitwits? they have the likes of Limbaugh and O'Reilly, and the Queen of Hatred Coulter! SHEESH!
I'm happy for Keith olbermann!

The fascists had to realize that they could not succeed. Olbermann's reality based show (and his intelligence) could not be downed by the nationalists and their propaganda.
But, and that is much more important, their giving up proves that the American people are tired of deceit and honor a show that informs about the neocon bastards.

Good on Olbermann, he is a journalistic powerhouse. He is not afraid to tell us the truth, even when it's dirty, and he is not afraid to expose the lying crooks who are ignorant of both history and the meaning of the words they speak.
Olbermann is one of few people I would say qualifies as a national hero, as he tries to substantially raise the level of public discourse. People can establish all the authoritarian "Watches" over whoever they want, but don't expect the rest of us, non-warmongerers, to be convinced by your reactionary, neo-fascist bullshit.

I have been watching Kieth's pieces over tha past couple of years and have been very impressed with his style. He cuts to the quick and is concise in his statements. I am happy to see he has been given "growing room." I look forward to Kieth doing more in the future in actual reports. Maybe soon he will do some hard investigative reporting, something sadly lacking from the MSM these days.

"his assault on the journalistic standards we hold dear,"
What "journalistic standards?" Mud-slinging, wingnut propaganda, half-truths, full lies and anti-democratic proto-fascist drumbeating?
Keith Olbermann speaks truth to power. The right can try and vilify him as some kind of leftist kook if they wish, but the fact is that he has demonstrated fealty to the Constitution (which neocons seem to disdain), accountability and excels in calling out these cretins on their lies. There is a very good reason why his viewership is up, up, up and that Countdown is the most frequently 'TiVo'ed program of all.
This country is NOT as inherently 'conservative' the the right would have you believe; we never have been.
Congratulations, Keith on your 4 year renewal. To Robert Cox, STFU.

Keith Olbermann is a different kind of person for the GOP to deal with. He's an ex-sports guy so he been around battles, yelling, etc. I think the GOP is jealous of the Olberman that he exists. He can't be talked away like Wolf Blitzer or Hardball. An anti-site of a person is lame, it speaks to the impact of the person. Can anyone speak out GOP or just you? Geez

I suspect the reason why the Olbermann Watch site closed is that it was a Republican "think tank" operation (not unlike the "think tank" that found Algore's utility bills) that hoped it would torpedo Olbermann's chances of being renewed.
Well, guess it didn't work so time to pull the plug on the funding.

"Journalistics standards that we all hold so dear?" That is EXACTLY what Keith - AND ONLY KEITH - has been doing. I am sorry that Mr. Cocks believes that the heads at Fox Noise Channel are journalists but Olbermann is the new and much-needed Edward R. Murrow of our times. Now if we can just get Fox Noise to shut down we can bring back journalistic integrity for good!

Olbermann Watch - now that's a laugh - What is with these right wing nut jobs. I mean they really just don't get it.
Olbermann is speaking truth to power like nobodies business. The only reason he's a threat is because he exposes their lies and distortions in the context of reality which they can not stand to have pointed out to them because they are disingenuous retarded snobs.
The "right" thinks they are fighting for something when the very thing they claim to be against is what they are.
The only real explanation for their thuggery is that in their denial they are simply projecting that which about themselves they can not face head on.
What else can account for the tragedy of opposites that seem to flow from their mouths like a river of ineptitude and lack of moral accountability.
Cox closed down his sight because it was irrelevant. His fake crusade to hold up the pillar of journalistic integrity is and always was a huge joke.

BiggusDiggus: I agree with you that Olberman Watch was probably the product of a Right Wing Think[less] Tank. They are really very repetitive in their group-think.
There is an AMA/Insurance Industry think tank creation called Quack Watch that spreads itself all over the internet spreading disinformation about every sort of non-conventional health care. It also provides its "experts" to state medical boards for prosecutions of alternative health care providers. It's called "trying to keep your market share" when 90% of the population is fed up with the allopathic medicine monopoly which is propped up by our government.
By-the-way, the word "Quack" comes from the German word "Quecksilber" (Quicksilver - mercury) and was used to describe the barbers and blacksmiths who used mercury-based dental fillings in the 19th century. Now the American Dental Association calls mercury-free dentists "quacks."

Terrorists can only kill citizens. It takes a government to kill a country.

Don't be sad.......you still have Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, etc. Unless, you've really quit because you're afraid that Olbermann's ratings will eventually surpass all your favorites. Oops, that's probably it, isn't it?

Eeek, I would hate to see Keith turn into one of those self-promoting pundit types. I really hope he doesn't comment at all on his commenters. It's a level of abstraction that is irrelevant to the journalism he performs and it would negatively impact my impression of him if he let himself become the story like that. It's enough that his occasional exchange of personal words with Bill O'Reilly sometimes becomes the story.
by Loquatrix on Thu Mar 01, 2007 at 02:54:43 PM PST
==========================================
I'm willing to bet it'll be on top 3 newsmakers.
I love Keith's show but there is a fair bit of self promoting on it. The Bill-O spots, especially the ones where Keith cites the ratings, are an example. But he's self-deprecating, at times, as well. Keith took the bronze for WPITW, one day last week. His journalism is still good but his producers force him to take time covering an awful lot of crap. For all his eye-rolling about worthless celebrity stories Anna Nicole (or Judge Larry) have had a fair amount of coverage. So has Lindsay Lohan and Tom Cruise. I tape it, however, and FF by these things. Often, I skip story #5 entirely. The time could be taken by better stories. Especially since story #4 has been Scooter's spot for the last God-knows-how-long.
by rainmanjr on Thu Mar 01, 2007 at 04:08:18 PM PST

In one of his interviews... ... he admitted that even he needs to cover something lighter at the end of the show (if it's not a Special Comment night). While I suspect he's 'way less than thrilled with the whole "Anna Nicole Smith is still dead" stories, he'll keep covering the "celebrity" stories if only for the, um, irony.

Not only did his contract NOT expire...
...but he will have a far expanded presence on NBC.
Olbermann will gain audience reach about which O’Reilly can only fantasize (please no falafel jokes). That additional exposure will drive new viewers to Countdown, fueling further growth of that program and MSNBC. The cable news wars will get hotter with O’Reilly becoming even more unhinged as his show is overtaken by the enemy. Look for O’Reilly to accuse Olbermann of treason and then spend the rest of the hour emulating Nancy Grace.

Personally, anytime I hear a news person or network claim to be objective or 'fair and balanced,' I know immediately not to trust them. I would much rather know a person's biases (as well as education, experiences, paycheck signers, etc.) and be able to factor this information in when evaluating the supposedly objective info they are offering.
I think we were probably better served in the bad old days when every group with an axe to grind had its own little newspaper.
Hey, wait a minute! I almost forgot about the Intertoobz--it IS the bad old days! Yay!
Olbermann kicks ass. Why? Because I like him. I like that while delivering news of the day he seems to share my take on the world. That said, I hope that I would not cut him any slack on the facts. I want him to tell the truth.

[W]e have come to the conclusion that we have done more harm than good over the past 2+ years in keeping Olbermann in the public eye at a time when few were watching his show and even less cared about his assault on the journalistic standards we hold dear.
I think you give yourself too much credit. Olbermann doesn't need you to stay in the public's eye. Before this very moment, I had never heard of olbermanwatch.com, and after this moment I will undoubtedly forget it ever existed. But I'm sure I will go on watching Keith Olbermann. He's a welcome breath of fresh air in this stale, missing blonde, runaway bride, Anna Nicole, bald Brittney, Nick & Jessica, Beauty & the Geek, Terri Schiavo, teacher screws student, another famous movie star goes into re-hab, Dixie Chicked media circus.
The last thing we need is you fucking lurking around here, like a sea gull looking for a discarded potato chip bag and merely shitting on a freshly washed windshields . . . Good riddance!

I know it's Standard Operating Procedure
The Olbermannwatch website has been scrubbed, and in its place is only a terse, unhappy message:
[W]e have come to the conclusion that we have done more harm than good over the past 2+ years in keeping Olbermann in the public eye at a time when few were watching his show and even less cared about his assault on the journalistic standards we hold dear.
I know it's standard operating procedure for journalists to kiss GOP posteriors, but why would anyone think it causes harm when they don't do so?

Ignorance Formula
I wonder when these rightwing denial hacks will discover that the reason their crude attacks backfire is that their rightwing heroes compete with their targets only on the basis of monopolizing attention. As soon as Fox's dimwitted audience sees the shiny, new show at all, they watch it instead of the tired old Fox Noise. Just on primitive animal instinct.
Reality is cruel to those who can't appreciate it. Trying to damage Olbermann by "exposing" him (without any basis but whining and lies) just gives Olbermann exposure to an uncritically thinking audience.

It's amusing that they're claiming responsibility for why Keith Olbermann is so popular.

Did you really think the American people would fall for that Mr.President?!?"

They aren't claiming that they're folding because of lack of revenues or uniques, they're folding because they're claiming they were SO HOT that they actually propelled Olbermann to the next level.

yes, because we all know correlation equals causation. i've been choking the bishop more often in the last year. in that same year, olbermann's ratings have climbed.
therefore, my masturbatory habits are responsible for olbermann's increased ratings.

Olbermann Watch Rules!!!!
I'm confused. First you close the site because you may be doing "more harm than good." Then you start the site back up again because that thing which you originally thought was good, but then decided was bad, is now a force for good. You, sir, have the consistency of warm baby sh-t.
It must suck to be so consed, AppeaseThis.
Cox, I knew you couldn't quit us "Olbyloons".
I totally missed the significance of the (dead?) possum. I see them pretty often around the home, and they never play dead! Only once did one play dead on me... it got stuck in the garbage can, and played dead. then it ran off. heh.
The old addage "playing possum"... totally missed it... I just figured RCox went out and got some roadkill to symbolize the death of the site.
I think I've rationalized my "not getting it" enough now... you'd think some of the olbyloons would be more careful with their headlines though. I mean, its their life.
journey onward.
Keith Olberman ROCKS!

He's the loon with the apricot hue

Good morning, all!
I see that the cowardly Dems have cut and run from the Nevada debate to be televised on FNC. They're afraid of tough questions, which is not surprising. And they wonder why they can't win the White House. I guess Moveon.org's strongarm tactics overpowered the lily-livered libnuts.
As long as you're pissing off the Olbyloons, you must be doing something right.
You can’t blame David Obey. Can you imagine the emails and phone calls he gets from wacky folks who don’t live in the real world. These are the “nasty” ones, the real “out there” ones.
No matter what they may tell you at election time, the Dems know damn well how important this stuff is. Its not 1968 for crying out loud.
Now Newt, once he let the “Little Head” tell the “Big Head” what to do he blew his chances of being president. Married three times when you can get your chicks for free, ALSO not the choices of a wise man!
Oh Coxie baby, I knew you'd come back. But does anyone else see this site closing in the near future?
Olbermann is a sexual predator refuted liar, massive hipocrite, and unimigated dumbass.
He never has any honest guests on his show, just the typical KGB card.
He also *never* provides any evidence for his refuted bs. Hence his massive contradiction about fitzgerald and Starr, Starr who had a tremendous case of corruption(kickbacks for sex, harrasment, rape, murder with Foster etc.) and killed it like the goo litle fake rpeublican he is....and then Fitz who lied about Libby and crammed many nasty little corruptos on his phony jury, like a friend of Russert etc, violating eveyr jury law in the boook, and his terrorist judge keeping evidence form being represented at the *show* trial....Libby commited no crime, Plame and WIlson violated several laws with their setup, nepotism, and documentation contratc laws, which explains why Wilson has no evidence he EVER went to Niger....(The CIA has to issue a contract for this crap of an "investigation") him and his phony talks with people he never met, who had nothing to do with the mines(this KGB ass clown demonrat has ties to French intel, intrestingly enough its French security orgs and State companies that work and run the mines...lol)
Just more ethical violations for the fascist, nietschist, hegelinist left.
Olbermann is an unfunny joke, always has been, and always will be.
"He has the temperment and ideology of Hitler, that Jew hatinG PLO BITCH)....
PS...His ratings are inflated drastically, MSNBC is losing millions of dollars with their crap...hehe They will be out of buisiness soon, hopefully, but I'm sure the Kremlin will keep stuffing cash through thei illicit pipes to keep their media going...idiots.

Robin Mosley: Your using the word 'ethical' is like OJ Simpson calling someone else a murderer.
"but does anyone else see this site closing in the near future."
Who knows, since only about a dozen people or so actually "see this site".
"You are an average American nimrod."
Damn! And I thought I was smarter than the average nimrod!
Au contraire there "Peter". This is the number one Keith Olbermann related site on the internet. And the "dozen" or so people you claim come here? There are usually at least 20 signed on at any one time. But keep telling yourself your little fictions, you know, sort of how you people keep trying to insist that Olbermann's show is a "ratings success".
Brandon: "This is the number one Keith Olbermann related site on the internet."
Really! Damn, that sounds even bigger than Randy's pool hall down the road!
There are usually at least 20 signed on at any one time."
Holy cow, thats even more people than came to my last dinner party! I had to bring in two extra chairs.
Jeepers Brandon, I'm really sorry for my mistake!
Peter, you don't seem to be able to understand basic facts, a problem inherent in Olbermannfans. But the fact is that this site is far more popular than fansites devoted to Olbermann. And I do mean devoted to him as in being cult-like in their devotion to him. But it is the Olbermann cults that have so few members, not this site. It's sort of like Olbermann's ratings: pathetic.
Brandon again: "this site is far more popular than fansites devoted to Olbermann."
Yes, Brandon, I understand .... didn't you see my post? I mean, WOW - 20 whole users signed on at ONE TIME sometimes. My god, thats more people than I've ever seen at any one time!
The 'fact' that Olbermann 'fansites' don't have much traffic is not surprising to me. I'm not a 'fan' of Olbermann, and neither are most of his watchers. We just like what he is saying and wish more pundits had the guts to say it as well.
Now why is that SO hard for you to fugure out?
Levin said it best. Olbermann spreads stupidity for the stupid.
"Levin said it best"
Yeah Brandon, and Levin's fascination with penis size really showed us his class.
Funny but Olbermann seems to have a fascination for Limbaugh's drug use including his use of Viagra. Now why would that be?
"Olbermann seems to have a fascination for Limbaugh's drug use including his use of viagra. Now why would that be?"
Well now Brandon, like me, he could be wondering just how in the hell a hang em high 'anti - drug' crusader like Limbaugh could actually get caught using illegal drugs himself, yet STILL retain his fan base.
I think that easily beats a fascination with penis size, which only a low life would have.
So in Olbylooon think, it's okay for KO to have a fascination with Limbaugh, Viagra, etc but not for someone to call him on having that same obsession. Well thank you for that insight into the Olbyloon brain, or lack thereof.
Yet another example of Brandon's convoluted thinking: "So in Olbyloon think, it's OK to have a fascination with Limbaugh, Viagra, etc., but not for having someone to call him on that same obsession."
No stupid, YOU brought up the Viagra. which just happens to be ANOTHER prescription Limbaugh was caught with that wasn't his own. I brought up the illegal drug Oxicontin, and the irony of how an outspoken anti-drug crusader got caught using illegal drugs, yet his fans still adore this hate spewing hypocrite.
I didn't mention Viagra, YOU did ... but I DID call your hero's bringing up penis size in his criticizm of Olbermann, which should have negated ANYTHING else this low life named Levin said. Only someone with the mentality of an elementary school child would take that kind of gutter level criticizm seriously.
