MSNBC drops simulcast of Don Imus show
No surprise here.
What does it say about the judgment of Dan Abrams and Phil Griffin that they've been foremost in defending their belated decision to suspend Imus for two weeks as sufficient - and why do they still have their jobs?
Meanwhile...anyone else smell a week-late "special comment" coming from Keith "don't shoot your own side" Olbermann now that the Imus is safely gone?
So NBC claims to have values huh? Hmm. Olbermann used the term "Broad" today to describe a woman. He also has called women sluts and hags and bags on his show previously. Does this mean they'll fire him too? I'm sure many women found those statements offensive.
Making derogatory remarks against women (of any age), Jews and Christians (of any denomination) apparently is OK in Olbyworld. But then again, Olby insults everyone's intelligence and violates all known standards of decency in general.
Brandon,
Don't be ridiculous! Calling a woman is a slut on MSNBC is A-OK on MSNBC, home of OlbyPlanet.
MSNBC drops the Imus show.
Makes you Oblyhaters look like total fools after reading your comments the past 3 days.
I found the following sentence in the AP
story most enlightening:
"The network's decision came after a growing list of sponsors - including American Express Co., Staples Inc., Procter & Gamble Co., and General Motors Corp. - said they were pulling ads from Imus' show for the indefinite future."
Note: the network's decision came AFTER...
so if the sponsors hadn't spoken with their
$$$, the I-Man would have been back just
in time for May Sweeps, and MSNBC would
not have given it one second thought.
It will be interesting to see how aggressive
the Orange One becomes tonight, though...
So when will MSNBC stop carrying Keith's show for all the racist and sexist remarks he has has made?
"Makes you Oblyhaters look like total fools after reading your comments the past 3 days."
Huh? You mean we've been right all along (recall that we were on this long before Al Sharpton was thanks to J$'s clip from John Gibson) and so somehow Imus FINALLY being canned means WE look like fools. Seems that the people defending Imus or giving him a painless way out (2 week of vacation) are the ones who look like fools.
As someone who for the most part, likes Keith Olbermann, I really hope he doesn't "pile on" Imus in tonight's show.
This whole situation is very sad....for everyone involved, and no one should be gloating over it.
Imus is basically a good man who made a serious mistake. It should be left at that.
This blog was launched on November 30th, 2004, three weeks after I wrote a post for The National Debate entitled "MSNBC Defines Deviancy Down as Keith Olbermann's Internet-feuled Jihad on Journalistic Ethics Continues"
http://www.olbermannwatch.com/archives/2004/11/msnbc_defines_d.php
In it I wrote:
"For quite some time Olbermann has had the luxury of getting away with using his show to monger rumors of the web because no one watches his show (he gets about a .7 rating, or slighly better than the now cancelled McEnroe show on CNBC). But word is starting to get around that Olbermann is embracing the lunatic fringe, apparently determined to take the reputation of NBC News down with him."
You can apply all of my concerns about Olbermann to Imus and visa versa. Olbermann has engaged in the worst sort of vituperation, lies and ad hominem attacks on enemies real and imagined. He has made a habit of making misogynistic comments which have been well-documented on this.
Why is it not OK for Imus to call women "hos" (the Rutgers players were hardly the first) but it IS ok for Olbermann to call women "sluts"?
Think about it...
James, I'm watching the Rev. Al Sharpton live on MSNBC right now. I thought the same thing that you posted - when is the Rev and his cadre marching over to Secaucus to plead for Olby's firing for anti-Semitic and sexist remarks?
5 bucks on bathtub frame boy sitting solemning with beads of sweat after the "meeting" knowing he's next if he "slips" again. BUt dannyboy is gone soon so the btf boy knows he's the only leftie left. Wonder how his bald brain chiold is feeling right now? By his post he's getting scared that his Idol the BTF boy will be next.
Totally ridiculous! And even worse listening to the head of BET on HARDBALL tonight as he totally ignored Gregory's good question about rap music!!
Johnny, I'm watching Olby's intro. He just called out three conservatives (Limbaugh, Savage and Boortz) for some of their comments. I hope you have a list of some of Olby's past comments handy. That ought to be fun.
We should be able to call jesus freaks what they are, and sadly that is mentally challenged. People choose to be jesus freaks.. they are fair game.
I lost. Kieffy is talking 5 million mils an hour but it could show he is on the hot seat. But I lost. 5 bucks to the OBW tip jar
O'Lielly, would that list of "Jesus Freaks" include Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson?
Yep... all jesus freaks.. not just the rightwing ones.. they are all full of it and make their living captializing on people's fears, Lenin was correct about religion.
Olby is deplorable. He just said he was all for the Imus firing since the story broke. Tell me Keith...why did it take you FIVE DAYS to even make this one of the stories that you will be talking about tomorrow?
Yup...on cue: Limbaugh, Boortz, Beck, Savage, but no mention of Olby doing a Nazi salute or demeaning women on HIS show. Amazing.
Have I just counted as three the number of times Olby that has inserted himself into the Imus story? Look at me! Look at me! I want attention. What a loser. The Rutgers coach is speaking to the wrong man about the degradation of women.
It's okay to degrade women. You just can't degrade BLACK women. Remember the incident a few months ago on Grey's Anatomy where the black actor Isiah Washington called another actor on the show (who is gay), a faggot? Guess how the NAACP reacted to that? They gave Isiah washington a NAACP "Image" award.
When will the RWers call for Limpbaugh, Beck, Weiner Savage and the rest of the racist right to be fired? Will Robert be showing the Aryan Nation's (his favorite organization) reaction to the firing? By the way Bob, you looked great in your hood.
"Some of us recall, years ago, listening to a Mets game when WFAN ambushed listeners with an 'IMUS IN THE MORNING' promo, a clip from the show that asked whether Mother Teresa is a legitimate cnadidate for sainthood or a "no-good bitch".
Hilarious stuff.
Some of us recall when channel 4 sports anchor Len Berman resigned his gig at WFAN after a short and failing run.
Imus could've called Berman "Lenny The Bum" or "Lenny The Quitter". Instead he referred to him as "Lenny The Jew".
Might that have provided a clue as to which way his instincts-and his marvelous sense of humor-run?"
That was an excerpt from Phil Mushnick from his New York Post column 4-10-07 'This is an Ugly Old Story.'
And some people still think Imus is a nice guy.
And let's not forget Howard and Robin always talking about how Imus called her a n***er.
And when he was on Sharpton's show he made the point that 10% of the kids on the Imus Ranch are always black.
Nah! No weasel talk there. Just a basically good man.
Imus's mistake was he should have just kept bashing Religious people and Jews.
Because basically he's a good man.
Yeah right.
When will the RWers call for Limpbaugh, Beck, Weiner Savage and the rest of the racist right to be fired? Will Robert be showing the Aryan Nation's (his favorite organization) reaction to the firing? By the way Bob, you looked great in your hood.

You look great in your skirt..........
candidate....sorry
Mike,
I agree with you. Imus was really stupid, though, to not believe his comments would ever result in this mess. Anyone who has watched his show for a period of time knows of the perhaps hundreds comments of this nature made, all for the purpose of getting a laugh.
I taught in a black community for 7 years and there was not a day I didn't hear a student use the "n" word in the hall or even in class. I remember a student half jokingly told me so and so called his mama a garden tool.
There were two sets of standards and everybody knew that.
It doesn't matter what the rap music proclaims, Imus is a white man. Al Sharpton would never rest until the white man is fired. He says he speaks out against the rappers. Yeah, he is really calling for a boycott of the record companies? Imus knows all this. He thought he would be given a pass because of his charity work. Pretty naive. He also has to face his own hypocrisy. I don't think he realizes that prejudice can be a hidden part of a person. For him to say what he did shows that he really doesn't respect African Americans. I believe he is facing an ugly fact about himself. Just like most others, he is not all bad but he has some soul searching to do.
"Seems that the people defending Imus or giving him a painless way out (2 week of vacation) are the ones who look like fools."
Tom Delay and other RWers are defending Imus.
Are they fools too? You've already proven you aren't smart enough to deviate from your Republican talking points.
The last post by me quoted Robert Cox.
Way to f--- up your seething biting commentary Colbert.
Perhaps you should write this stuff out in long hand, sit on it for a couple of days, proofread it and then post.
It's okay for Olbermann to call women broads, hags, sluts, and any number of other terms. Just so long as he doesn't say something about black women however, he's in the clear. The double-standard here is ridiculous. How did the term "ho's" get accepted into the everyday vocabulary of so many? Because of rap music and black comedians who used it against one another. It's not right when they do it, it wasn't right when Imus did it, but who pays here? Whitey. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpeton should sweep up around their own doorstep (aka HymieTown & Tawana Brawley) before they try to be the politically correct police of the world. They are both self-serving hypocrites. What does Jackson want now? He wants more blacks on air. I guess sweeping Imus off the air will open up that time slot for him. So tell me, the next time that Keith says something offensive towards women (which with him is about every two days or so), can we dump him? Or does he have to say something about black women for it to count?
Imus- "The hypocrisy at MSNBC is just insane." Couldn't agree more. I hope he hammers them every day. Hopefully, Ulbermahn is in the sights of his side arm....
One can only hope that Imus returns with a seething vengeance toward his former employer and to settle personal vendettas with former fellow employees.
