Females used to be able to hang out with Mom and taught the facts of life while baking or helping clean house. The big Congressional news is the House's action on Bolton and Meier. The good guys did truly win one! Am I opposed to snitching? On principle, yes. It is intrusive. It usually has much more to do with some pathology by the snitcher than it does with truth, justice and the American way.

Am I opposed to the Bill? Not really. It was imperfect, but it contained some important measures. The whistle-blower provision was a small, small part of it, and it is nothing of any particular practical value. I could care less about that provision one way or the other.

When you take the totality of what your client says about African-Americans, immigrants (who, in his examples, tend to be Hispanics, or more precisely for him, and incorrectly, all Mexicans) and Arabs, it is hard not to see that Monsieur Royale is bigoted and racist to his very core. I am not sure reasonable minds can even differ on that point. The evidence is over-whelming. If you elect to deny that, so be it. Your denial does little to refute such a clear pattern. As a Republican/Right Winger, I would think you might want to purge Monsieur Royale from your guest list. Not to do so doesn't necessarily make you a racist and bigot. In fact, I detect none of these character defects in you. It does make you seem to be keeping the wrong company, however and it makes positions for which you so forecfully argue seem weaker.

Well, it's fine for you to articulate that you feel the bill is harmless now, but that doesn't negate that it is certanly a very current and relevant thing to bring up, after you had made the comments that you did.

You seem to want it both ways. You want to say that the actions the bill addresses are unpleasant and generally carry a whiff of unamericanism, but then argue that a bill with a provision that addresses just that is harmless and of no real consequence.

Unamerican snitches on one hand and harmless inconsequential bills on the other, does make it difficult to keep up with your feelings in a discussion.

It also makes one wonder how you'd really feel had Clnton or Obama spoken out about that particular aspect of the bill.

Your other statements make it clear how you illogically characterized RK"s statement about Obama as being racist rather than understanding that based on your own words, anyone would assume that you would care that your fav Obama was unconcerned about legislation that directly addressed something you seem to abhor when talking about "snitiches".

I've read some cases people have made for impeachment that are thoughtful, this isn't one of them.

This has to be some of the most moronic pieces I seen in awhile.

Nixon had to resign over Watergate. Not the Vietnam War.

Breslin says that if Bush had done what he did in Queens he'd be on trial for murder...

Great analogy there... if bush had done what? If Bush had started a riot in Queens? A war in Queens? If Bush were a private citizen and had started a war in Queens?

Breslin calls the president a murderer for war casualities but can't seem to find an iota of perjury or obstruction when he mentions Clinton's impeachment.

Might as well argue that a Judge should be tried for murder for giving the death penality to the wrong man.

But I guess that's the gist of the matter. Breslin thinks Bush deliberately lied though most of his peers (including Mr and Mrs Clinton) thought Saddam had WMDs.

BTW, President Clinton had access to ALL the intelligence Bush had and we can draw some conclusions from the fact that he still didn't disuade his wife for voting on the war.

Intelligence is fungible and needs interpreting. You make it a crime for duly elected leaders to look at it, and then come to conclusions based upon their own feelings and even prejudices and you're opening a can of worms that might have every future Administration fending off impeachment hearings.

So bring it on. Let's have a full on attempt to penalize policy, policy mistakes, and the disposition of elected leaders in making decisions on how they interpret the information they are given.

Let it go to congress and let all the witnesses who thought Saddam had WMDs appear, and all the pols who saw the evidence and voted for the war appear, and all intelligence analysts who said otherwise appear and then let's start seeing which pol knew what still voted as they did.

I got news for you, it's going to take something bigger than no WMDs in Iraq to get Bush impeached. Impeachment on that sort ground is NOT a precident a future Pres Hillary or Edwards would wish to set.

You're going to have to hope for burgalars and SLUSH funds. At the rate the accusations fly around here, you're sure to be getting your wish just any day now.

Am I opposed to snitching? On principle, yes. It is intrusive. It usually has much more to do with some pathology by the snitcher than it does with truth, justice and the American way.

Am I opposed to the Bill? Not really. It was imperfect, but it contained some important measures. The whistle-blower provision was a small, small part of it, and it is nothing of any particular practical value. I could care less about that provision one way or the other.

Cecelia, you certainly made a strong argument at 1:35 AM against impeachment, but I noticed that you didn't touch the "why you still support this Iraq war" question.

One important area in which I have to depart from your logic is when you define something as grave as going to war as simply another matter of policy, or as you put it, simple "policy mistakes". When you start talking war and invasions, the bar should be set far higher than it is for any other matter.

Another point you make I will only meet you halfway on:.....You and others on your side always try to make Congress as equally culpable for the war as you do Bush. This implies that simply going along with a bad idea, when you are only given two choices, possibly even with a heavy heart, makes you as culpable as the leader who perpetrated the idea. I don't buy that at all but I do think that the Congressional majority, including Hillary and Edwards, showed a either a decided lack of judgment, or a lack of spine, I don't know which?

Finally, expecting Bill to have 'disuaded' Hillary in her Senate vote implies you don't have much respect for Hillary's ability to be her own person. You could easily compare this to Bush 41's inability to disuade his own son George from creating this fiasco, because according to several insider accounts, he certainly tried. A spouse (or son), might be just as inclined to reject their mate's (or son's) advise, as much to prove their own independence as for any other logical reason. They also may be more tempted to tip the other way in order to avoid what they see as repeating the former's 'mistakes', as may have been the case with GWB.

This is as good an argument as I know of against family dynasties in the presidency, which is the main reason I hope Hillary doesn't turn out to be the nominee.

Just as an afterthought, does your comment about Hillary mean you think a Hillary presidency will really be a shadow presidency by Bill?

President Clinton wouldn't give HRC any specifics on classified info but he could certainly alert her to the fact that she was not getting all the info or was getting a skewered picture of the info.

The argument that Administrations must not bring their own preconceptions or patterns of thinking to the table--- (especially if they turn out wrong or just different from their opponents) is a puzzle to me.

You saw that issue come up very early in the Bush Admin with Cheney and who he talked with when formulating energy policy, etc. You saw it in the Chinton Admin when there was a fuss over Hazel O'Leary meeting with what was termed radical environmental groups.

Both the Clinton and Bush Administrations were elected with the voters being fully cognisant of the ideologies and beliefs that each brings to the table. Is it reallly such a shock that Cheney's views probably aren't much different from those folks who run oil companies? He wants domestic exploration and utilization of natural resources. Is that such a reversial of what was obviously understood about the man that it seems like he was bought off by Big Oil...

You may hate the Clintons or the Bushies but they are duly elected by the voters who pretty know where these individuals stand.

Same with "cherry picking" intelligence. Of course Administrations have mindsets and world views that cause them to cherry pick and interpret intelligence accordingly. I'm not suggesting that some willful dismissal of something undeniable cannot be held against them, but not what amounts to 20/20 hindsight.

I'm not opposed to an investigation of the things that shaped the decision to go into Iraq. Let it come. But it's not going to be the sort of cartoon scenario and blueblog vapors and connect-the-dots theories that Olbermann and so many here seem to think it will be. It will be the soft joy of a thousand small PR hits against the Administration (coming in faster around the time of the next election) maybe another Scooter Libby, posturing for '08, and in the end it will slide away into nothing but forgone conclusion memes for Chris Matthews and internet political junkies.

That's my prediction. Who knows. However, except for folks wanting Gonzales gone, and a few other Dems like Conyers, I don't see any real appetite to go after the Administration in a way will put some Dem pols who are running for office under the light too and will make it harder for the next possible Dem president,
