KXMC.Com has a very good editoral on the sheer stupidity of the comments Keith Olbermann made in the October issue of Playboy.
Keith Olbermann responding to a question Rudy Giuliani in a Playboy interview: Sez Keith: Giuliani tried to out-Bush Bush. He tried to get votes by talking about casualties as if another attack like 9/11 were inevitable, suggesting that voting for anyone but him would lead to more people getting killed. That's about an inch from saying, "If you don't vote for me, you'll die, which is another inch from saying, "If you don't vote for me, I'll kill you." And that, to me, is not America. In fact, it's not Earth. I don't usually single out candidates for praise or brickbats, but if they're going to politicize terror, to do the work of the terrorists by terrorizing the populace, I'll come down on them like a ton of bricks. That's my job.
KXMC links to blogger Tom Maguire who asked the following:
So let me see if I have mastered this "logic"---when Al Gore says that global warming is a gathering threat, and so on, he is one inch from saying that if we don't vote for environmentally sound candidates we will die, and two inches from saying that he will personally kill us (I presume a coroner would rule it death by boredom, but really, anyone listening to Al Gore for more than a nanosecond ought to be ruled a suicide.) Or, work with me, Keith---Nancy Pelosi thinks if we don't vote for stricter gun control we will die, which is two inches from saying she will personally gun us down like Michael Vick's dogs. Of course, to a liberal like Olbermann, the as-yet-unproven threat of anthropomorphic global warming and the private ownership of firearms really are threats. Islamic terrorism, by his own words, apparently is not.
Exactly. And oh by the way? Olbermann does in fact single out candidate Joe Biden for praise in the Playboy interview after stating that he usually doesn't do that sort of thing. Yet another Olbermann lie, this time captured in black and white on the pages of Playboy.
Another hit from Olbermann's interview with commentary from Noel Sheppard: Fox News is worse than al Qaeda! Something to which Noel Sheppard responds with: An anchor for one of the leading television news networks in the world has stated that a competing network is worse than the world's leading terrorist organization responsible for the killing of thousands on September 11, 2001, and many others around the globe. He's also stated that this news network is as dangerous as the most racist organization to ever exist in America. Can anyone explain how this man can say these things and continue to represent MSNBC and NBC?
Our question exactly. Bravo to the blogger at KXMC.com, Maguire, and Sheppard as well.
Olbyloons? Spin away. Or do what you usually do, just divert.
Well, certainly the Republicans are, in part, playing on people's fears of terrorism in order to get votes. Republicans say that Democratic national security policies will make us less safe.
But Democrats also claim that Bush and his policies have made us less safe. Is that fear mongering, Mr. Olbermann? Mr. Olbermann himself says that we live under a "form of fascism" and that American's habeas rights have been taken away.
Is that fear mongering?
Anyway, does Olbermann believe that this is somehow unique at this time in American politics?
For all my adult life, Democrats have told elderly voters that Republicans will take away their social security or medicare benefits. And they've told poor people that Republicans want to take away their assistance. And they've said that Republicans want children to starve or to drink dirty water. And they've said to black Americans that Republicans want to restore Jim Crow laws or reinstate segregation or take away their voting rights.
And on and on and on...
Okay, Mr. Olbermann, criticize those Republicans who mainpulate our fears. But, y'know, maybe once every two or three years condemn the fear-mongering on your side of the aisle.
I know, I know, I'm dreaming.

Keith's actually trying to play both sides of the Democratic street right now, pandering to the wildest fantasies of the party's far left while at the same time using "Countdown" as a buffer for Hillary Clinton, who the left has problems with because of her support for the Iraq war earlier and for her failure to push for the immediate withdrawal of troops in recent months.
Hillary is Olby's candidate, and as a result, despite his flaming special comment rhetoric, any criticism of her has been either mild at best when he names her specifically, or generic when harsher (Keith's Osama-like rant against Democrats in July over the troop funding named no names, and could be see more as an attack on Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi).
I'm sure Olby's hope is that Hillary will toughen her stance and return to her non-triangulation roots, the far left will fall in line with her as the nominee and Keith can lead both the pro- and anti-Hillary wings of the party in Kumbaya before they march off to trash Rudy Giuliani or whomever the Republican nominee is. So trashing Fox News with over-the-top charges for a supposed "unbiased" network news anchor both pleases the far left, and for now allows Keith to avoid having to come down openly on Hillary's side, which at least until the primary season is over, would not please his core viewer base.
Keith's comments go far beyond the delusions of grandeur usually displayed by Olby. His comments the past two Sunday night games, as well as his usual demagoguery on CD, show signs of someone who really is slipping of the deep end.
For NBC and Microsoft to tacitly endorse his comments and actions, shows the open disdain that the "liberal elite deciders" have for about half our country, if not more.
What other network news program host repeatedly hurls names and insults at other networks and hosts? I have never heard anyone of FNC refer to MSLSD or MSNBS (not saying its impossible, just I haven't heard it, and I think we would have).
To compare a cable channel to al-qaeda is ALMOST so absurd as to laugh off, if it weren't said by the man who gives Kos, TP, MMA and DU their news.
I used to think KO kept drifting left trying to find an audience. Now I think he really believes this crap.
NBC is ALLOWING the resident psychopath to "push the limits" and see what happens. Given enough rope and time the "limits" will at some time be exceeded.....they always are. History's lessons are aplenty.
When Olby implodes, it will be spectacular, as usual. I await the icy chill of NBC panel after Costas introduces Olby on SNF. It's good for a laugh.
We should be liveblogging pre-game and halftime for as long as NBC permits Olbydope to stink up our football games.
Here's an interesting (to me) comment from Susan Estrich's latest column re the controversy over Moveon's attack ad against Gen. Petreus:
"[W]hat they [Moveon and the left] are offering is not so much a new vision as a new strategy; that they are seeking to match the "right wing conspiracy" which spews out faxes and statements every day, blogs on Drudge and speaks through Rush and Hannity, with a left-wing version, which spews just as much ink, blogs on Huffington, and speaks through Olberman."
Speaks through Olbermann.
Have we ever in the modern history of American journalism ever had a news anchor used for such purposes?
Amazing that he has been able to pull this off for so long.
FYI, Estrich is a lifelong liberal democrat and ran the Dukakis presidential campaign in 1988.

She should have also added the Kos Kids and DU.

I totally agree.
Let the Game begin, COUNTDOWN to the END.
Yet they and the Kos Kids are the ones who need to "Grow up & Get a Life."
"Check out the credentials"
Actors, actresses, comedians.
'Course, for people who think Olbermann is a news anchor and believe that Jon Stewart gives them accurate news, I'd expect them to be impressed with such cv's.
Dummies love our celebrity culture.

Noel Sheppard has said, No, some us will not follow you down the 'Looney Brick Road' Olby.
No Olby on Sunday Night Football in America. He's had to have an emergency appendectomy. Even his own body parts don't want anything to do with him and are trying to vacate the premises as soon as possible.
Some may hold me responsible for this untimely illness since I still have powers from the grave but I blame Bush.
did you come up with that? don't give up your day job...
Don't worry, anon...
With Bush at the helm, fewer and fewer people will have "day jobs", son...
blindbat, I'll bet your just a joy to be around.
rk,
I couldn't speak objectively about that, son...
The Bush administration couldn't care less about the troops:
"Defense Secretary Robert Gates said today he would urge President Bush to veto a measure by Virginia's Sen. Jim Webb giving soldiers more time at home between deployments to Iraq.
As the Senate prepares to take up legislation this week aimed at changing course in Iraq, Webb’s proposal to give soldiers as much time at home as they spend deployed appears to be gaining traction. The freshman Democrat has said several moderate Republicans have signaled new interest in his initiative, possibly including Virginia's Sen. John Warner, an influential Republican centrist.
But the Pentagon opened fire on the proposal today, warning it could hamstring military planning and potentially put troops at greater risk.
Gates, appearing on two of the Sunday network talk shows, called Webb’s measure ``a back-door effort” to accelerate the withdrawal of troops that Bush announced last week, without considering the conditions on the ground in Iraq.
Asked by Fox News Channel’s Chris Wallace whether he would recommend a veto of the legislation if Congress approves it, Gates said flatly, ``Yes, I would.”
Webb, a Vietnam combat veteran whose son recently served in Iraq, has been pushing for months to lessen the strain on soldiers making repeated deployments to the war zone..."

What part of that do you not understand?
The part about using our soldiers like they are a commodity and then throwing them on the scrap-heap. At least with Vietnam, there was an end in sight once you went overseas, son...
Surprising coming from you. I thought that you pretended to support the troops, child...
From Radar magazine (no online yet), The OVERRATED 100"
Keith Olbermann (by Lloyd Grove)
With his entertaining harangues against the Bush White House, Olbermann has positioned himself as the market beneficiary of liberal rage. It's impossible, for instance, to imagine Murrow boasting to a disagreeable viewer---as Olbermann did last year in a series of e'mails for which MSNBC brass ordered him to apologize---"By the way, with my new contract I could buy and sell you." Or offering up such fine sentiments as "you couldn't be stupider, wronger, or dumber if you were Ann Coulter's cunt." Stay classy, San Diego!
Radar Magazine is the equivalent of the National Enquirer (they do have a web site)...

Oh, I see... So when you lose your job because you spend too much time on the net spewing your crap, and not working, just blame Bush.
And, I'm not your son.
Well, in an interview with Sports Illustrated (which is not Radar magazine or National Enquirer), your hero said this:
"I have never gotten a pie in the face or someone swearing at me. I have heard from others there have been players that have thought about it but when they see -- I am their height or bigger -- they decide maybe this confrontation is not really worth it."

No shit sherlock-son, I know Radar has a website, they don't put the ENTIRE current issue online. This blurb is from the PRINT copy.
The point is not that they think he is overrated, the point is that Lloyd Grove still has Olbermann's infamous emails and obviously can haul them out anytime, anywhere. BTW, Radar waaaaaay funnier & hipper than the National Enquirer...

BR,
I can provide many examples to support the notion that the "news" as reported by Olbermann should not be trusted as objective. If you genuinely believe that Olbermann's "news" reporting is trustworthy, I will reply to your question.
> Radar Magazine is the equivalent of the National Enquirer (they do have a web site)...
I'm afraid Keith Olbermann thinks more highly of Radar than you do. Not only has he used them as a source repeatedly, but he has consented to be interviewed by them, and has even had at least one Radar writer in the seat of honor for a Countdown interview.
The Keith Olbermann RADAR online interview: (the picture use to be a pic of Olbermann holding the Bill-O mask and giving a nazi salute---if you have the time read the comments, almost as funny as the actual article):
http://www.radaronline.com/features/2006/12/olbermann.php
"if you have the time read the comments, almost as funny as the actual article"
News, I took your advice and read some of the comments. Here was my favorite:
"Call him [Olbermann] melodramatic or self-important; I'm just glad somebody realizes this is an issue worth thundering about. A lot of people thought Sam Adams and Patrick Henry were insufferable egotists too, but they got the job done."
^ Agreed Hank, you found the best line....
I had forgotten how nutty these the olbyapologists can be, holy cow! (Please refrain, AAP or symbol blogger formerly known as AAP)
""[W]hat they [Moveon and the left] are offering is not so much a new vision as a new strategy; that they are seeking to match the "right wing conspiracy" which spews out faxes and statements every day, blogs on Drudge and speaks through Rush and Hannity, with a left-wing version, which spews just as much ink, blogs on Huffington, and speaks through Olberman."

I stumbled across this now mostly useless site (seeing as how Keith's contract was renewed for 5 years, and his ratings shot up 72% in the second quarter of 2007) about one year ago. At the time, Keith was seemingly down, and this site was gloating. Now, it seems that more people are paying attention to the issues "Krazy Keith" (I believe he is referred to as here) is speaking about. And many of the points made up above are quite moderate and well thought out. The one I quoted above, however, is not.
Let's take a look at what you quoted... ok, so you isolated 3 words, and... ohh, ok, the author of the piece said the exact same thing about the right side of the line. So wouldn't the next question be, how have Hannity and O' Reilly existed for so long in their current positions, especially as they have spewed out so much hate and false information for so long? And to answer your question, yes, a news anchor has been used in such a way for a long period of time. In fact, the entire crew of Fox News serves this purpose. How can you have overlooked that??!! So, the lesson: If you're going to complain about partisanship, at least look at both sides of the coin. Don't be a hypocrite.
The way you panty waists sob and bitch about Olbermann must mean you don't have much confidence in the ability of the Limbaughs, Hannitys and Bill-o's to carry your water much longer. Then you water is pretty septic now anyway and your messengers couldn't carry their packages in a jock strap.
"The way you panty waists sob and bitch about Olbermann must mean you don't have much confidence in the ability of the Limbaughs, Hannitys and Bill-o's to carry your water much longer."
The way you panty waist Olby worshippers sob and bitch about Hannity, O'Reilly, and Limbaugh must mean you don't have much confidence in your ability to defend Olbermann's lies, distortions, and bias.
I'll let you know the first time it happens Wank.

Have your wife bring you a hanky for your tears, please, you're embarrassing yourself. Fox News (#1).
remember when Keith-O use to be on the Dan Patrick radio show, and one day he talked about a one night stand where the woman's dog "spoke" to him in the middle of the night---(Imus later outed the woman as Laura Ingraham--via Laura Ingraham, "the man (Keith Olbermann) is a mystery to me").
Here is a YouTube video where Keith-O is slamming (verbally as opposed to sexually, this time) Laura Ingraham, but does let us know he knows her "socially" (toward the end of the video).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lcEW4o1VxM
"Socially". . . .so that's what he calls having a one night stand with someone? Or does he just refer to her as a stalker like he does all of his former "social" acquaintances?
Olby fans never met a Christian they didn't hate. Yet they claim it's the other side that hates. Yeah, right.
aaaaaaaaaaaah you're all nuts ^^
Tell me, Keith Olbermann fanatics, how does it feel to know that your hero has a history of one-night stands where he deserts women after pursuing them, then trashes them to every available media outlet he can find because HE can't perform in bed?
Tell me, Keith Olbermann fanatics, and if you can, don't bring George Bush into this because I can tell you, I've never voted for a Republican. So tell me, how does it feel to know that your hero is someone who has a history of stalking women to the point that females at every network he's ever worked at have been warned to stay away from him? Where the female press members covering ballgames all know that Keith is nuts and to stay clear? How does it feel to be a fan of that?
The real Keith claims he's a supporter of women's rights. Keith is a man who is deeply conflicted about females in general and his dates specifically. They are the enemy to him. And who supports, aides and abets him? His clueless female fans who would hate him if they knew the Real Keith.
But change the subject, talk about Bush. It's better than acknowledging the truth about Keith.

Funny, Olbermann just bought this record, yes a vinyl pressing (Leave my monkey alone--W. Zevon) on ebay...
