Everytime I tune into Fox it is celebrity news, OJ, Dog the Bounty Hunter, you really have to sift through to get any actual news. And when they do report the news, it's "America is doing great!". On a side note, I read Culture Warrior last night. Borrowed it from my next door neighbor, who is a neocon himself. It took me a whole 30 minutes to read.

Phil Donahue started out with higher ratings than Olbermann. But yeah, I think MSNBC would have stuck with a liberal Keith Olbermann if only because they had changed their lineup so often (aside for Matthews) and were catching flak for that.

I think it finally dawned on them that they needed to give their shows a chance to find an audience before dumping them.

What I don't think MSNBC would have done is to stick with an equally partisan host, who ran a one-sided show as Olbermann does, if that host was conservative.

That sort of utterly one-sided take on the news would have caused too much of a hue and cry among the television and media critics that MSNBC would have pressured that host to change his format.

You're right about not sticking with a conservative host, Nasty Old Bag. They are so boring! MSNBC is about developing a young audience it will carry for years to come. And, it seems to be working. The business plan for FOX seems to be develop an easy audience and worry about what to do when it dies off in a couple of years.

A conservative operating a show that allowed no counter views would have meant a constant drumbeat of criticism and anger from media critics that would have hurt MSNBC.

As idiotic as they were to have given a paranoiac powder keg like Michael Savage a show, he had guests argue from various stands and viewpoints.

As to your attempt at a shot about the those little liberal "hopes for the future", I'm not sure that the demographics bear you out.

Yes. Reporting facts is one of the many faults of the "far left fringe". Most Americans oppose this war. So where you are getting "far left" from is insane. Constitutionalists, libertarians, democrats, leftists, greens, and true conservatives oppose this war.

Olbermann reporting on the Attorney General, illegal wiretapping, or...I don't know...the war IS news. However Hannity and Colmes arguing how liberal colleges are or Media Matters attacking Rush Limbaugh- which may be seen as news to some- is not on my list of priorities, sorry. That is why Hannity and Colmes are commentators (or people that know how to talk over each other), and Olbermann does news with commentary.
