Now since Collinsworth said
Let's get Bill O instead,
Olby's gone to his bathtub to soak.

Johnny, could you at least give a girl a nudge in the right direction to delve into and enjoy what seems to promise possible fertile ground to explore?

I wish SNF would replace Olbytard. If Cris actually said that I would laugh.
Thanks, prick, I mean patsy!
Sexual harassment suits are civil law, not criminal law cases dunce. No jail involved, only $$$$.
BOBO,
Don't be silly. US spy agencies have a pretty bad track record. Are you saying that if they said Iran was about to set off their first nuclear bomb that you would believe them?
You dingbats always accept at face value that which you want to hear. No questions asked. You are silly, silly people.
Patsy,
Your cherries are showing. We all can see that they are as pristine as the day you were born. Truly you are the VIRGIN KING!
"Funny how just a few weeks ago, even Bush was doing the same thing...taking about Iran's nuclear capabilities....but as usual...they are always proven wrong.( WMD anyone?)
American Intelligence Agencies just released information today concluding that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 and that the program remains frozen, contradicting judgment two years ago that Tehran was working relentlessly toward building a nuclear bomb.

Are these the same intelligence agencies that provided "ooooooooooooLIESoooooooo to the Clinton and Bush admins for at least a decade?
The more things change the more they stay the same!

This is about the 50th time you have made this claim w/no evidence. What 'advice' did I recieve from my 'comadres?' I don't expect any proof, just had to ask, though.
Thanks Patsy!

Since the Olberman trolls love to come here an try to play "gotcha" when a Republican gets caught in a sexual scandal I thought I return the favor...since we know how KO and most of the MSM will down play it....
"Senate aide arrested in sex sting"
By MATTHEW DALY, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 30 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - A former aide to Sen. Maria Cantwell is in federal custody after being arrested on a charge of attempting to sexually exploit a minor.
James Michael McHaney was fired Friday from his job as a scheduler for Cantwell, D-Wash., hours after he was arrested by FBI agents. The FBI said in a charging document that McHaney allegedly tried to set up a meeting with an undercover witness posing online as a teenage boy.
McHaney, who appeared in federal court Saturday, was being held without bond pending a court hearing Wednesday, said Channing Phillips, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office for the District of Columbia.
According to court papers, McHaney, known as Mike, tried to arrange a lunchtime meeting with an unidentified person posing as a 13-year-old boy. When the witness asked whether McHaney was interested in sex with a 13-year-old, McHaney allegedly replied, "I'll be there," the court papers said. He later asked for a photo of the child.
News of the arrest was first reported on The Smoking Gun Web site, http://www.smokinggun.com.
Congressional records show McHaney had worked as a scheduler in Cantwell's Washington, D.C., office since at least July 2006.
Cantwell's chief of staff, Michael Meehan, issued a statement Monday night saying McHaney had been fired.
"Late Friday afternoon the FBI informed our office that a Senate employee was arrested. The employee was immediately fired. Our office has and will continue to fully cooperate with the ongoing federal criminal investigation. Senator Cantwell has zero tolerance for crimes against children," Meehan said.
A Democratic aid trying to have sex with a 13yo boy..thats a hell of a lot worse then anything Craig or Folly were accused of...and if a Republican aid did the same thing KO and the MSM would be talking about it for a week.
Let's see ... here's a news day where we have a mjor story on the Democratic side about the Hillary campaign going after Obama, to the point of having Howard Wolfson on Sunday morning with Bob Scheiffer, and with accusations that Barak is too power hungry based on a kindergarten essay. That leads the Obama campaign to counter punch and go after Hillary's own problems with likability.
That was a major, major story on the news shows today, including MSNBC's "Countdown", where Chris Matthews makesno pretense of hiding his support for Obama over Hillary. And it's no problem for him, because the liberal that MSNBC are targeting generally think Hillary's not fr enough left and will triangulate towards the middle and away from them.
But it's a big problem for Keith, whose whole show is built on feeding the Bush/Republican hatred of the hard core left, but has continuously shown his support for the Clintons. Olby loves Bill and wants Hillary elected and was hoping that she would simply cakewalk to the nomination, so his differences with his target audience wouldn't become a problem.
So if Keith does "Countdown" on Monday, he's faced with either being fair to a candidate going up against the Clintons -- something he's never done on the show -- or he can start treating Obama the same way he treats Bush, Giuliani, Romney or any other perceived threat, which is to trash them by distorting the truth or outright lying.
Or there is the third option that worked so well on bad nights for Bill during the Monica Lewinsky scandal, which is simply don't show up, and hope everything blows over by the next news cycle so you don't even have to mention it. A tried-and-true strategy, but one that's going to be harder and harder to pull off if the good ship Hillary doesn't right herself soon and start pulling away again from Obama.
That is one thing the Bush Administration HAS been good at doing.( But obviously they're even slipping in this area now too)
Posted by: Why Don't I Think at December 3, 2007 9:47 PM
I was waiting for some left wing loser to bring this up. WDIT is the first moron to bite. Now all of a sudden the National Intelligence Estimate is the gospel because they downgrade the threat from Iran. When they were stating that Iraq has WMD's, they were full of shit. These are the same left wing losers that don't want Bush to push sanctions on Iran because it might make them angry. Of course they are proven wrong again, and the tough sanctions work, Dingy Harry Reid tries to take credit. You might want to actually read what the NIE said before we start giving flowers and blow jobs to Iran. They stopped trying to make war heads. They have not stopped enriching uranium or developing long range missiles. Liberals want to give hugs and kisses to Iran until they make Israel disappear. Then the left will go to the UN and try and get tougher sanctions, Neville Chamberlin style.
You can't read can you. When those 16 agencies said the Iraq had WMD's, they were just puppets right? Now they are gospel because you think Iran not building War heads means they have given up their Nuke program. The only chimp around is you.
Bobo, I asked a serious question earlier:
Are these the same intelligence agencies that provided "ooooooooooooLIESoooooooo to the Clinton and Bush admins for at least a decade?
Inquiring minds want to know. I realize that this might be impossible for you to recognize but swords cut both ways.
So what is your criteria for when these "16 Intelligence Agencies" are right and when they are wrong?
My personal opinion is that intelligence is NOT rocket science and is always going to be fraught with error in every conceivable way.
What say you, Bobo?
Grammie
Grammie
16 Intelligence Agencies + Iraq and Iran are dangerous and need to be delt with = Bush Puppets
16 Intelligence Agencies + Iran might take 6 years to wipe Israel off the map instead of 3 years = The most crediable sources of information since Keith Olbermann.
Simple formula Grammie.
> Johnny, could you at least give a girl a nudge in the right direction to delve into and enjoy what seems to promise possible fertile ground to explore?
The limerick was the nudge. We're working on getting more on this.
Johnny, I pity you and your sad unhappy evil rightwing existence...

I can always count on Imus to give me a naughty chuckle on my way to work. He is starting to taste that dangerous but sweet dish of revenge. Oh well....just as long as Olbermann is at the end of Imus' blunt verbal instrument, it makes no difference to me......
Now it may not be exact....this is from memory from about 20 minutes ago listening to Imus' Dr. Phil character.....
"Olbermann is so self-satisfied and smug, even Simon Cowell thinks he's a douchebag."
###
Is douchebag one word or two, (douche bag)?......
wannawipe? Mr. blank-FLUCKER?
Sorry, but it has become apparent that the democrats have become the party of dourness. Maybe thats where this bitterness is rooted. In the 70s your party had 'hope' cornered. But you let it slip away, and now you have become the party of bitching.
Good luck in 2008 showing you have candidates of hope. Nobody like a whiner. Show some damn leadership and maybe you'll win a presidential election. Right now you have a bunch of people running against G Bush... who isnt even running.
Slippery Shuster sits in Keith's place
At his desk (not the tub, just in case)
The moonbat parade
Keith's "news show" charade

I truly think the cream will rise...
Someone has to realize people are not looking for a politican and step it up!
A N O N,
"We have become ill-tempered with short fuses."
You are talking about yourselves, of course. You on the left are unhinged about Bush and Iraq.
I find the cordial attitude of yester-year much more frequent in red states....especially down south and in the midwest. The blue coasts, especially true-blu New York, New Jersey and New England seem very stressed and consumed with their own lives. I wonder why?
Could it be what these people have their minds on?.....what their priorities are?......the worries about personal economic security that is fed by the left?
Only thinkin out loud.....
"Besides, it isn't worse than what Foley was doing."
###
Explain that one to me....how do you come up with that one?
According to public record, Foley's prowling ended there, no liasons were orchestrated.
Craig was implicated in seeking out liasons with other adults.....
The democrat aide actually was ready to meet the child and execute her personal sexual preference for pedophlia.....
How is that not worse than the other scandals, wasted?
Wasted thinks a man trying to have sex with a 13 year old boy is less repulsive than a grown man trying to cheat on his wife with another man.
Bet you can't find many here that agree.
Wow, thats a wasted keystroke at 10:09
I agree Wasted Keystrokes! Amen
You're right benson....my mistake, it was a male democratic aide not a female aide prowling....
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2007/1203072senate1.html
I am guessing WK realized the idiocy in his statement and retreated to Huff Post to reload with propaganda. I am expecting somthing meaty like, "Oh yeah, but Bush lied about Iran and Iraq."
Foley has no accusations other than flirting. The aide was caught in a sting where he was going to carry out trhe act. As I am aware, no page has come forward with claims of sex with Foley.
Yet, DECEMBER 3--A U.S. Senate aide was arrested Friday after allegedly arranging a lunchtime sexual encounter with a teenage boy, according to federal court records.
He was caught in a sting...
Foley is repulsive! He was flirting with kids. Yet this aide asshole was going to have sex... read the indictment.
There is a big deifference between a pervert and a predator.
I think you will agree.
And who said rape? Bring the rhetoric back down.
Frankly, I am beginning to think the field really sucks of both sides. I long for an (Elizabeth) Edwards - (Michelle) Obama ticket. We might actually get something accomplished.
Posted by: A N O N Y M O U S at December 4, 2007 9:31 AM
Frankly, if either of these women read your most routine post here, they'd wish their supporter and fellow Democrat wasn't the type of man who made Hillary's severest male critics look equanimous and non-gender-conscious in comparison.
Although it will be discounted by the loons... Bush found out about the revised Iran report two days ago.
Just came out in his press conference.
Sorry that anon was me...
We both agree that they are sick, but Foley at least had a governor on his sickness. He did NOT meet up with kids, he waited until they were legal. Thats a fact.
The aide made a rendevous to actually have sex!
I think pedophilia is a sickness, and without giving Foley a pass, he physically DID nothing. He is sick, but did nothing.
McHane couldn't even stop at just the flirting. He went to have sex.
Thats why he is worse, and democrat or republican, I don't see how you can disagree.
We both agree they are sick. You say they are even in crime.
But the courts and I see it differently. McHane will do jail time for his actions! Foley did not.
They beat him up pretty rough... (David Gregory was there so what do you expect) but he insists his eyes just saw it while they tried to verify it.
So the new twist on the attacks on Bush are why were they wrong in 2003? Lets get it right! Even if it takes 5 years, get it right. And who is to say it is right now?
The good thing is that we didn't bomb them. And sanctions are apparently working so status quo should not be attaked.
I think the media will now try and verify why Bush just saw the report. Its the next phase.
I think we agree on almost all parts!
Nice to see Benson and Cee think some guys trying to troll for underage sex are less guilty than others.
Posted by: Wasted Keystrokes at December 4, 2007 10:27 AM
A sixteen year old male isn't "jailbait" to put it bluntly, but I whole heartedly agree with you that men and women in positions of power should be expected to refrain from acting as though the teenage and twenty-something aids and interns around them as the "perks" of office.
What I find interesting about Foley case is the fact that in "enlightened" liberal circles, such charges of "special" interest in young male pages would have aroused an immediate suspicion of some sort of intrinsic homophobic persecution of a gay older gentlemen, if Foley had not been a Republican politician.
I do not doubt Foley hit on young pages. However, it is ironic that if Foley had been a Democrat, the Democratic leadership would have been just as queasy about handling the situation without it looking as if it were giving in to some sort of young guy testosterone laden persecution and stereotyping of a gay male as being in eternal cruise mode.
Although there IS a whole set of unspoken rules and political correctness codes to be considered in such matters, Republicans should never think for one moment that any of these considerations will apply to them.
I'm not complaining about that. It is what it is. And I think in the end that sort of scrutiny and accountability, even if it comes via an old pornographer like Larry Flynt, can make for a better field of publc servants, as we move on down the road.
anyone read the intel report?I did--it makes Iran an even bigger thret---since that nutcase former mayor of tehran took office----Iran has been putting all it's efforts into the production of refined Uranium---and lots of it.Why all the effort in getting the Ur?Why, that's one of the hardest steps in making a bomb--getting enough fissionable material to make a bomb read thehistoryof the US program--we used German Ur to make our bombs in 45'-not our own--wedid not have enough to make the three bombs we made in the summer of 45'.
Yet the left and the press whop had no problem telling us all what a threat Iran was now says all is well with Iran and they are just swell guys.Really? Hmmm--where did Hammas and Hezbollah het the upgrades in weapons-tactics-C&C--and communications in the recent conflict in southern Lebanon with the IDF?Why from Iran. Where are the weapons coming from to support the savages in Iraq--iran---where are the Taliban getting their arms and ied compopnets? Iran. Still think Iran is rukled by a sweel bunch of guys?I sure as hell don't.
BTW--Fat ass is just toxic on SNF. I just can't hit mute fast enough when the giant orange head fills my 52" plasma. I beg NBC---TAKE FAT ASS OFF SNF---for the love of God---he is just destroying the entire show.
Am I missing something here with this NIE report.....Did Iran ever admit to pursuing nuclear weapons capability?
The answer is no.
So, the NIE report is clearly stating that they did pursue one up until 2003 and stopped.
OK....so Iran's official response is?......
Why are all eyes on Bush and The United States response?
I find it interesting that Iran's official position is at odds with the NIE and no one on the left or in the media seems concerned about that.....If Iran was pursuing a nuclear arsenal in the past, what must be done to stop them from returning to that policy?
Sanctions?
Military threat?
Regime change?
These are the questions the serious adults should be pondering....Not the same old craziness of Bush hatred....When did he know?.....Did he know before his October news conference?!?!
Oh my.....what a world we live in.
I see you feel the need to be nasty this morning, Cecelia. You do it well! Have a super day!
Posted by: A N O N Y M O U S at December 4, 2007 11:03 AM
Your remarks about old women, wrinkles, middle-aged women, spent women, strippers, stretch marks, caesarean section scars, heifers, etc are your own little revelations of womanhood as viewed by Clucker and here for all to daily read.
You may conveniently view them as not being nasty, but I have NO doubt that Elizabeth and Michelle would disagree.
I think the threat of attack on North Korea and Iran is a necessary tool in diplomacy when dealing with their whack job leaders. And (not to belittle war) I think its important to wear your best poker face when your president stands at the podium and declares "All options are on the table"
But any reasonable person could conclude that in light of the Iraq war's declining popularity and thinning troops andwar resources, Bush would not launch an attack on Iran unless their threat was imminent. So the projected nuclear arms capabilities of Iran are now more likely achievable in 2015, so we can stand down til 2012. Almost assuredly that is our policy.

The scuttlebutt on the blogs is that this news will ultimately help hawks like McCain and Giuliani.
Bush and Cheney aren't up for re-election, so how they handle the news isn't important. That Iran is less of a threat than imagined effectively undermines a key DNC talking point/accusation that McCain or Rudy will take us into a war with Iran.

We were made to believe the perch was higher. Of course, politics being politics, this is exploited beyond all reason. And, it is certainly a double standard. However, the injuries are, in some measure, self-inflicted. Most of us mere mortals find the cloak of purity and holiness a bit heavy.
Posted by: A N O N Y M O U S at December 4, 2007 11:35 AM
Of course by "holiness" you mean being judgmental, self-righteous, sanctimonious, etc.
I'm not sure how any of those words, including "holiness" fit into what is really an age-old practice of maintaining particular standards, but I'm keenly aware that invariably do.
I'm aware too that by taking an overt stand, rather than a more opaque one (exp-- Homosexuality is merely the flip side of heterosexuality, but I won't chance my political career by endorsing gay marriage), you run the risks that we both have mentioned.
As I said, I'm down with that. Ultimately it will make for a better Republican pol. And I'm certainly thrilled to pieces that Larry Flynt is all yours.
Hey- just to weigh in again Keystroke!
Yet, I think Larry Craig was convicted of being nothing more than a hypocrit. He should not have lost his office over being a closet gay. Even if he was a professed homophobe!
Agreed-

Hooray! The I-Man is back!
I was particularly pleased and moved, even, when I read that he opened his show with the comment that he had asked for and had received forgiveness for his remarks about the basketball players and that nothing would be said by him or by anyone associated with his show, that would make those women regret having given him that.
That being said, after watching Ana Marie Cox (a frequent quest) and Keith Olbermann take time out to stop and kick the man when he was at his lowest, I hope Imus gives them bloody hell!
Upon further reflection, I was wrong, wasted.....Foley was pretty close to having his wanted "encounters" according to the public record, he just never got there.....and although he has avoided criminal charges, his behavior is no worse than the aides'.
I guess the partisanship of previous posters here (blindrat) that sexual deviants always seem to be republican has made me overly sensitive to the subject when it is brought up.
With regards to this....
"any more Olbermann discussion on Imus??? please share"

They just repeated the Dr. Phil segment.....
It wasn't cesspool MSNBC.....it was "Swamp infested MSNBC" (whatever that was supposed to mean).....
And Olbermann was "so self-important, smug and condescending that Simon Cowell would even think he's a douche." NOT douchebag as I previously reported (again, 1 word or 2?).
I stand corrected on two subjects.
Yet, I think Larry Craig was convicted of being nothing more than a hypocrit. He should not have lost his office over being a closet gay. Even if he was a professed homophobe!

No, I think the charge was solicitation, Benson...
My bad, I was quick to discount that criminal part.
He still did not deserve the lynching he recieved.
- If it was a female hooker (cop), he would have not been harassed by the media ... for weeks.
-I am still confused on how you solicit sex under the wall of a bathroom stall.
A great example of the dumbing down of america.
The reason Adrienne Curry (first winner of America's Top Model) is against the war - from her blog.
"We entered Iraq under the belief that Bin Laden was there and that there were weapons of mass destruction. Guess what? None of that was true. Every reason we were told we went into that country was a fucking LIE."
People! Be against the war for the right reasons. I laugh every time I read her post as well as the responses form people that don't pounce on how idiotic this statement is.
But I digress.
Looks like cair will be learning a valuable lesson.....

there ya go, Mr. Typo
Again I ask....The White House got it wrong?.....Well now, I appreciate the reason for why that seems the subject to pursue, but one also must ask what next? If Iran has stopped their program, how do we continue to insure that continues?
When did they stop?.....2003.....What was Bush doing internationally then?.......
Fighting aggressively in Afghanistan against radical islamist terrorists.....
Preparing to invade/or actually invading, Iraq....a regime known to support radical islamic terrorist groups.
Oh my....what timing.....Iran drops its program just as the USA attacks some other members of the pronounced "AXIS OF EVIL." Mmmmm.
So to my friends on the left....Can we see a more indepth, adult and important evaluation of the NIE as opposed to the domestic, partisan angle?.....
Oh no.....its an election year and the left has more important things to worry about than national security.
Thank goodness Bush is taking national security seriously.
Our intelligence has been tying to get it right for 2 years to support the NIE report... but now the reporters are griping that the president did not believe the orginal NIE report...
It was the first NIE report on Iraq that got Bush in trouble the first time. So shaddup you liberally biased media. No wonder they love Hillary so much. They both love to play it on both sides.

I knew it would be one of the more absurd countdowns ever. KeithO the Pedophile is mocking the possibility that Bush is responsible for the 2003 actions of Iran. An occurence taht happens two and a half years into his administration he is not given credit for. As though the invasion of Iraq had nothing to do with the balking of Iran's nuclear ambitions.
His hypocrisy is endless. Thankfully, no one with half a brain watches anymore.
Olby's about to take on Lou Dobbs in his continuing crusade in "punching up." Will he also take a jab at Lou's daughter? Stay tuned.

Guess KO won't be going on The view in the near future to pimp that book.
Obligatory book plug
Obligatory Hillary plug
Obligatory E.D.Hill bashing
Obligatory bashing of competition
Olby's night is compete
In his dumb and dumber segment, he isn't even able to spit out a Tyra Banks joke without tripping all over his words. Not to worry, he'll "get back to that." I would say he would qualify for top dummy based on the fact that he can't even get through his SCRIPTED segment with the guy from E channel. No wonder no one takes him seriously!
The fact is that you can't prove it did any more than I can prove it didn't.

Point?
So he's trashing Lou Dobbs as a hypocrite because his daughter is involved in horse shows.
Also competing in the Hamptons this summer were Bruce Springsteen's daughter, Jessica, and Mayor Bloomberg's daughter, Georgina.
Will he also go after Springsteen and Mayor Bloomberg for allowing their daughters to be involved with a sport that relies on illegal immigrants (according to KO's segment)?
Jeff: "Point?"
I'm sure everyone got the "point" but you and I really could care less what you think.
He was really reaching with his "Lou Dobbs is a hypocrite" based on Dobbs's daughters participating in horse shows. When he stated that he was going to prove how Dobbs is a hypocrite in his next story, I figured he was going to unveil something along the lines of Dobbs hiring illegals in his home or something of substance, not his daughters being in horse shows. It was quite comical watching his face contortions as he tried to sell that one!

There may be "reasonable people" who depise 'me and my ilk', but there is nothing "reasonable" about you and your ilk.

More like 'outclassed you in record time tonight'!
I'm not bragging though...outclassing YOU is not much of an achievement.
I am SO reasonable you can't stand it. I make TOO much sense to you that you are uncomfortable. We all see it Mike.
Don't you have some muslim fanatics to apologiize for? maybe some liberal intolerance? How about Hillary criticizing Obama's third grade homework? What about all those rabid republican anti-antiquers

OH, I can stand it all right! You make points for my side better than any ten liberals ever could without your help.

"Why do liberal men wear thong underpants in front of children?"
Possibly for the same reason that conservative men play footsy in men's room toilet stalls with their neighbors.
Let me guess, olbyonesidedkanoby spiked the Hsu story and tried to spin the Iran/nuke story?
Explorer: On your comment about not mentioning Hillary in story #3:
While KO probably should have mentioned Hillary's drop in the polls, you have to realize that Guiliani dropped from above 40% to sub 30% NATIONALLY. The recent mentions of Hillary drops in the news refers to the Iowa Caucuses. Hillary has maintained a +20% lead NATIONALLY.
Its one thing to drop in polls from the first caucus...
Its another to drop in the polls NATIONALLY...
And while the Lou Dobbs thing might be a bit of a reach, you never hear him come onto the show and complain that illegal aliens are maintaining the country club where his family has membership. At least Orally will come out against any little thing he despises...
Personally, if I was against THING A and it is associated with THING B that a family member participates in, I would certainly voice my opinion against THING B and try to get that family member to stop doing THING B.

No.
The media is hell bent on trying to figure out when he found out. But the media ALL has an accusatory stance that he knew prior to this month.
I understand it is the way of the media, but they have already tried and convicted him of knowing months ago. Some even speculate that he knew in 2003 which is entirely assinine as the NIE is not a US agency.
Let it shake out anon. In my opinion, I think he knew prior but needed to keep the rhetoric at a high level. Its not good to have any kind of nuclear program in Iran. It seeds a nuclear weapon plan. So all the backlash regarding the previos sanctions is ridiculous!
Ahh, and Whackadimajan is declaring victory. That alone is a sign that Bush is right to keep heavy diplomatic pressure on Iran. No?
You're right benson. And the claim that Iran stopped it's weapons program in 2003 also supports the argument of the Afghanistan and Iraq interventions as a deterrence.
Skepticism regarding the US motives (Bush's intentions to militarily attack Iran) is misplaced. Remember, Iran has always denied it was pursuing nuclear weapons and the NIE clearly claims it was actively pursuing weapons until 2003.
When an enemy, like Iran and Saddam Hussein before the 2003 invasion, is playing games on whether they have a capability (WMD, etc) it is wise to keep ALL options available and not even suggest that all out military action is off the table. I applaud Bush for taking the stand just like Reagan did against the former Soviet Union that basically called a bluff and made military options on the enemy's side a losing proposition.
The majority of the modern American left and many in their ruling class in the democrat party have never learned this simple lesson when dealing with inferior bullies and that is a sad fact of history. I at least am heartened see Hillary Clinton somewhat postively with regards to this but now she is trying to distance herself from the correct position because of her fringe base.
It seems the adults in the world (you know, people other than the leading democartic candidates, most of the Washington press corps and morning TV anchors), are viewing the new NIE holisitcally in the context of their national security with many actually agreeing with The President's analysis. The domestic political angle seems to be reserved for the less seriously minded.
"But the American finding has so unsettled governments, agencies and officials dealing with Iran that it has suddenly upended commonly held assumptions.
"There is relief, as one senior French official put it, that 'the war option is off the table.' There is also criticism and even anger in some quarters that the American intelligence assessment may be too soft on Iran.
"Israel, for example, on Tuesday took a darker view of Iran’s nuclear ambitions than the American assessment, saying that it is convinced that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons and that it has probably resumed the weapons program the Americans said was stopped in autumn 2003.
"The British government said the international community should maintain pressure on Iran over its uranium enrichment efforts. 'It confirms we were right to be worried about Iran seeking to develop nuclear weapons,' a spokesman for Prime Minister Gordon Brown told reporters. He said the American assessment had also shown that past international pressure on Iran had succeeded 'in that they seem to have abandoned the weaponization element.'
"He added, 'But it also tells us the intent was there, and that the risk of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons remains a serious problem.' That, he said, justified maintaining pressure on the Tehran government to abandon efforts to enrich uranium and to reprocess spent nuclear fuel, processes that could provide fissile material for nuclear weapons."

Oh well, Iran's radical islamist terrorists will be most interested in who is elected as the go-to guy (or girl) for a just peace and freedom of religion and thought in the world. I suppose those more concerned about polling data and their fringe base demands may be the terrorist's preference.
What, nothing new from media matters on Rudy or Mitt?
This is good news, a tremendous relief, and we should all be pleased. I personally see now value in seeking out boogeymen and women in an absurdly partisan fashion. For once, let's just be pleased we have some good news.

AMEN.
Well A N O N Y M O U S, you're being far more generous about this than I'm inclined to be. To me, the latest NIE revelations are just one more indication that this administration has failed to be straight with the American people from the git-go.
How much more evidence of this do we need?
There are people on this very blog who would collectively label the NIE as "'supporters of Iran"', or "enemy defenders", just as they have done to KO and others many times for doing nothing more than questioning the constant beating of the war drums....and yet they have turned out to be correct....once again!
I'm wondering when this president and VP is going to finally learn that there is very real danger in not telling the whole truth to the American People and the world....especially when the consequences are war?
Truth is never our enemy.
NOW, they have eroded their credibility even further with both our current allies and our potential future allies, .... and unfortunately, THAT will make it even more difficult to gather support in dealing with Iran and other roque states when and if they choose to restart an active program.
Someone else will have to straighten out the collective mess Bush has made. Be they a Democrat, or be they a Republican, I hope they understand that competence, honesty, and integrity will be the best policy going forward.

That is a lie. I have deleted messages that are long cut-and-paste blocks of text, stolen from other sites, off-topic, and reproduced here without attribution. That is theft of intellectual property and I've made it clear even to WDYT, the impresario of cut-and-paste, that I will not stand for it.
So WDYT, instead of telling the truth, now claims I am censoring "objectionable language". Point to a message I deleted for "objectionable language". Or don't do so, and be exposed as a liar.

No, Mike we're not going to do that. It's just that they said in 2005 that Iran was trying to build nuclear weapons and remember in 2002 when they said Iraq had WMD. They do get it wrong sometimes Mike and the Iranians are still actively producing enriched Uranium which can be weaponized. They are also exporting weapons to Iraq that are killing our troops. Our soldiers over there will tell you that. Doesn't that matter to you? No matter how much you hate Bush, why would you take the side of the Iranians in this when they are supplying explosives and weapons that are killing our young men and women in Iraq? I can understand ANON and WDYT. They both hate the US. I think they may be Canadian or something. But you, Mike, you seem like a good patriotic sort. You don't hate your county like those two do you?
Actually, Fukugat, at least one of the authors of the latest NIE about Iran was expressing a different view in another NIE that was out as recently as July of this year.
I don't think there's any sort of malfeasance here, to say the least, but I do think it's only natural that anyone, including the Administration, would request an examination into how these conclusions were reached.

Posted by: A N O N Y M O U S at December 6, 2007 8:50 AM
Regardless of what someone stated 4 months ago, the NIE just prior to that in July said there was a threat.
I linked to the site, just above.
Now it may be plausible to you that an Administration runs out and does a press conference based upon what an Admiral says, but generally things have to be a bit more documented than that...
The same gentleman who wrote the NIE which saw a threat in July is one of the guys who co-wrote the current NIE.
When the media finally get around to reporting that, it'll switch to demanding that the Republican candidates perform the usual media driven litmus test and renounce any hawkishness..ie tough rhetoric.... towards Iran as penance for no WMD's in Iraq...
By then some Democrat...somewhere...will finally catch on and realize that Bush isn't on the ballot in '08 and decide that perhaps the time is best spent gunning for the folks who might be...
f I were you, Cecelia, I'd be more prepared for the Republican candidate to be running against Bush. I think this is going to be a three (3) man or three (3) person race this year. Perhaps even four (4), since I have seen nothing to indicate the Republicans are not going to be running against Bill Clinton, again. I don't like particularly forward to it, and I am considering going on a Cabernet Sauvignon diet in September.
Posted by: A N O N Y M O U S at December 6, 2007 1:12 PM
I think you underestimate the uniqueness of the two top Dem candidates.
With Obama or Clinton, you'll have the first nominated female or African-American presidential candidate (Alan Keys (R) and Jessie Jackson (D) previously vied to be their party's nominee.)
In the case of Bill Richardson or John Edwards, you'll have Bush, in a sense, running against these two candidates (who are both to the left of DLC Bill Clinton), rather than as a ghost haunting the Republicans.
I don't like particularly forward to it, and I am considering going on a Cabernet Sauvignon diet in September.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/06/world/middleeast/06intel.html?hp
Here's piece in the New York Times that gives more detail (more than the Iranians should know really, but it is the NYT...) on what it calls "one of the biggest reversals in the history of American nuclear intelligence"... A reversal in less than four months, I'll add.
In this matter, I would never just discount criticism of the Administration, as being only partisanship, because there were too many past mistakes from the Administration with intelligence.
However, on it's face, it's difficult to understand how anyone could have swallowed some sort of idiotic narrative that there should have been been an immediate and public dissembling or change in official rhetoric, as soon as ""one of the biggest reversals in the history of American nuclear intellegence" came about.
But they did.
I realize there were no WMD's in Iraq, but doesn't being more careful in your analysis and handling of intelligence also include not being quick to jump on the latest theory (especially before it is elucidated within an official NIE) even when not doing so can be spun into a story that you're STILL just being a hawk?.
As usual, reality is a more complex than a Countdown segment...
An unusually reasonable and erudite post, Cecelia. Thank you.
