"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)
Host: Keith Olbermann
Topics/Guests:
It's another opening spiel, as bellowed by the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann: WaterboardingGate! Attacks on Huckabee (R) and Rudy (R)! Oprah! It's blue Monday on Olbermann Watch. And a day when a big, ginormous Dog That Did Not Bark grew even more ginormous tonight. We'll have the devastating details.
#5: "Another Bush administration scandal"! Olby cites John Kiriakou but glides over his statements about how waterboarding worked and completely omits any mention of how it saved lives. That violates OlbySpin and is not permitted on OlbyPlanet. Jay Rockefeller (D) gets a mention, and The Wolffe Man skulked in to help attack Dana Perino. Great thanks.
Next up, Olby and the Perfessor. How long does it take him to claim a federal crime has been committed? Oh, about 15 seconds. Herr Oralmann made a claim that Kiriakou said waterboarding is "wrong" and "we shouldn't have done it". Where did he find that in the transcript? Your guess is as good as ours. Here is what the man actually said to Brian Ross:
BRIAN ROSS: But given that you felt that-- water-boarding (?) and the enhanced interrogation broke him, if you- - if somebody else was caught today, wouldn't you wanna use those same techniques?JOHN:
I think that I would be very tempted to use the
same techniques. I--BRIAN ROSS:
In other words, in your view, they-- they do
work?JOHN:
I-- yes, they do work.BRIAN ROSS:
No doubt about that?JOHN:
But like a lot of Americans, I think I-- I'm
involved in this-- this internal, intellectual
battle with myself weighing the idea that water-
boarding may be torture, versus the quality of
information that we-- that we often get after
using the water-boarding technique. And I
struggle with it, I think like a lot of people
do, where like I said earlier, we're Americans
and we're better than this. And we shouldn't be
doing this kinda thing.
But at the same time, what happens if we don't
water-board a person and we don't get that nugget
of information, and there's an attack on a-- on a
movie theater or a shopping mall or-- or in
midtown Manhattan, you know, at rush hour? Then-
- then what do we do? I-- I would have trouble
forgiving myself.
Gee, whatever happened to Monkeymann's claim that "torture never works"? Does that sound like Kiriakou said "we shouldn't have done it"? Where did that entire chunk of transcript go that Krazy Keith simply erased from the newshole tonight? Great thanks.
#4: Time for the nightly assault on the GOP. 15-year-old comments from Huckabee (R) on AIDS (Blue Blog Source: Think Progress), and the "very logical" comments from Tim Russert to Rudy (R) (mildy assertive questions to Bill Jefferson Clinton get the Jewish interviewer called a "monkey", but when someone does to it Rudy, Olbermahn swoons). Olby dismissed Huck's popularity as due to the "born agains". Dana Milbank, sans splashy suit, played his scripted role. Great thanks.
#3: It's an Oprabamarama! The O speaks, Hillary brings out B.J. and Chelsea. Olby does damage control for Madame Clinton: won't Oprah "overshadow" Barack? Won't she go "off-message"? Page didn't think so. Page wasn't Great Thanksed but he was Pleasured.
#2: Michael Vick (who Oralmann thought should go past jail and straight back to the NFL). #1: Dana Perino! Bush's Brain [Ding!]! Larry Birkhead!
In the Media Matters Minute, Herr Olbermahn went after David Ignatius (Blue Blog Source: sure enough! Hillary Clinton's Media Matters) for daring to criticize Hillary Clinton, Huckabee (Blue Blog Source: Daily Kos, Keith's favorite charity), and "lunatic fringe" [Ding!] Hugh Hewitt (Blue Blog Source: Think Progress). His crime was being mentioned by Dan Bartlett as a blogger who would "regurgitate" the White House position. How ironic, given that Oralmann is a sportscaster who regurgitates posts from lefty blogs!
Dogs That Did Not Bark: Special Groundhog Day Edition. Monkeymann has leapt to attack Republicans who dared speak of Barack Obama's middle name (Hussein). Why, this is "pathetic and ugly", sermonized Rev Olbermahn. "We have this right-wing implication that you must have the right name or the right God to be American.... Is it to point out the racial element to this, or the religious element to this? Or is it just to say, this beneath contempt and not worthy of any response?" Wow that sort of stuff really upsets Olby. (Well, except when he does it himself, like when he ridiculed Michelle Malkin's maiden name. But we digress.) It wasn't that long ago when Edward R Olbermann was attacking other broadcasters over a report that Obama may have attended a Muslim school. That was good for several days of ranting and bellowing. But now, not only is someone spreading the madrassah story again, they're tossing a new angle: a claim that Obama is really a secret Muslim himself! Whoa! Our boy Keith is going to be all over this, right? He's really going to slam whoever is doing this, right? Um, no. Not a word. That was last week. And now it happens again. And Edward R Olbermann spikes the story. Again. (And that's not even counting yet another person involved in the smear campaign.) Yet still Keith Oralmann says nary a word. Because he's a slovenly political hack.
Oh, and we would be remiss if we did not mention Gen John Batiste. Cited on Countdown dozens of times; the last time he spoke out about the Iraq war he was promptly brought in as a guest in the Countdown Seat of Honor. He has spoken out again. Don't hold your breath waiting for Herr Olbermann to give him another invite. More on this in a very special post, coming shortly on Olbermann Watch.
Olbermann's book The book that bears Olbermann's name plummeted to #27,723 on amazon, while "Culture Warrior" is #4,346. (It's that 2-for-$25 sale!) Barnes & Noble has the OlbyTome at #33,857; O'Reilly's book is #1,248 there. In the battle of the paperbacks: Amazon lists Culture Warrior at #330, while Oralmann's book is a mighty #1,734. Chortle! Friday brought the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann another humiliating loss both in total viewers and in the coveted, pivotal, much-beloved, critical, all-important "key demo".
Not even a mention of the "rumor" about Obama being a Muslim having come from the Hillary campaign?...
Well, Keith knows who is good and who is bad and what needs to be discussed and what doesn't.
And you don't. :D
I didn't know the Washington Post was on the far right. Poor Olby, so partisan that's attacking his own for stepping out of line. Pathetic.
More lies, more cover ups, and more Hitlery Clintonista water carrying by Keith tonight. Any moron who still believes that Keith is not a Hitlery Clinton operative is just delusional.
Since I have boycotted MSNBC and CNN, do any of you know if either reported about NBC refusing to air the "support our troops" ad, then did a reversal?
Did Olbyloon or Matthewsloon report it?
Just curious about the LLL MSM.
Let olby continue to shill for HRC. He'll find out exactly how small his fan base really is when he pisses of his hardcore fans who are NOT HRC supporters.
As usual, your facts are never accurate.
This rumor FIRST came from the RIGHT ! Your boys !

Thanks for the article about "untraceable email" about Obama religous views that were picked up by FOX.
Guess what! They've been traced to the Hillary campaign. Any explanation for why Olbermann mentioned the bit about Fox but has failed to mention where they the emails came from in the first place?
> Mrs. Clinton's campaign asked the county chair to step down from the campaign.
You should change your name to Why Don't You Read? If you had read the links provided, it wasn't one county chair involved. There was ANOTHER one doing the same thing, who also had to step down. Then there was a THIRD person found to be involved as well. And NONE of this was reported by Keith Olbermann, because, well, because he couldn't point the finger at FOX. He would have to wag a finger at the Clinton campaign, and he's too much of a slovenly political hack to do that.
The Clinton campaign acknowledged that an Iowa county chair volunteering for the campaign passed along this email about Obama.
Mrs. Clinton's campaign asked the county chair to step down from the campaign.
End of story.
Just like you to jump all over a story like this....but are mute about the recent gang rape in Iraq and the child prostitutes that have arisen from the refugees due to your favorite war.
Nice priorities..but I wouldn't ever expect anything more from you with your "selective" rage.
Posted by: Why Don't You Think at December 10, 2007 11:28 PM
Let's see.... you suggest that gang rape and child prostitutes are a direct responsibility of the anyone supporting a war, but one firing from the Clinton campaign and it's "end of story" as in Olbermann isn't even supposed to follow up on what he reported when he thought it was only about Fox News?
What matchbook advertisement gave you your PhD, Bobo? LD
he's too much of a slovenly political hack to do that.
Posted by: johnny dollar at December 10, 2007 11:36 PM
And you know slovenly hacks. You look at one each morning in the mirror.
I'm so glad that Keith pisses off you anal retentive poseurs.
You should change your name to Johnny 2 cents....because that's all you and your site is worth.
Oh yeah...I already did !
Posted by: Why Don't You Think at December 10, 2007 11:41 PM
So that's your answer as to why Olbermann gave no follow up on a Clinton campaign link to a slur against Obama that he did report when he thought it was only about Fox News?
Is your PhD in PE, Bobo? :D
By the way, did you clarify your question on Jesus and waterboarding? :D I can't find the thread now.
She'll be back ! Hiccup !

This coward wets his pants again because he is a proven liar and spin artist for Hitlery but he is not as good as his zombie master Olbermann. The Obamanation madrasa story originated from the Clinton campaign. Her brown shirts are now trying to spread the rumor that he is a Muslim barbarian. What is you manhood quotient since you can't address the racism in the Hitlery campaign?
he little ole spinmeister herself: OCD Ceals !
Bottom line is you ( HypocroCee and others) continue to support a war but cover your eyes to the consequences of that war.
Pitiful , really.
But Olbermann is the problem !
Go have another drink.
Posted by: Why Don't You Think at December 10, 2007 11:51
Now Bobo, you had no problem steering yourself away from the culpability of war supporters for child prostition and gang rape in Iraq when you wanted to make the point that FOX News started the rumor about Obama.... but after learning that you stuck your foot in your mouth because the Clinton camp was involved, you now want to suggest that criticism of Olbermann for not following up with THAT news ....is a distraction from what REALLY matters....
I'm more than willing to answer your Jesus question, why can't you answer the simple the question of whether Olbermann should have reported the news about the Hillary campaign worker emails?
> repeating a false Insight magazine report that he had spent fours years in an Indonesian madrasa, an Islamic school.
You left out the part where Insight magazine got the story from a Clinton campaign worker. Oops, too much information, eh?
Got any more comments about Cecelia's alcoholism and anyone who smokes pot ?

I hope that no one blames marijuana for Bobo being dumb as a shoe.
Blame his genetics, anything else is grossly unfair to his fellow pot smokers out there... :D

Shoddy at best. You can die from a car crash while picking your nose.
No one has died from the physical ailments from marijuana.
Tens of thousands die each year from alcohol related ailments.
You better use the other half of your brain, now.
Posted by: at December 11, 2007 12:48 AM
And better still.... none of it is an answer to why Olbermann couldn't finish what he had started reporting by reporting about emails within the Clinton campaign, or why Bobo can (like Olbermann), accuse Fox News of being involved, but has to change the subject when asked why Olbermann couldn't report the involvement of the Hillary campaign.. :D
Cecelia,
Olby may as well just stop covering the Clinton campaign altogether. It will get even uglier.
1:01,
I guess you don't believe military personnel. That is your choice. I should have noted
h/t Jawa Report.
"Now Bobo, you had no problem steering yourself away from the culpability of war supporters for child prostition and gang rape in Iraq"
Culpability? I just proved you made it up and twisted what I said to suit your purposes.
And I'm dumb as a shoe?
You throw out insults after you've been proved wrong. You're a legend in your own mind.
Your envy at those more educated and intelligent than you is obvious by your "shoe" comment .
But what else do you have to do except live your life at this site ?
Sad, really.

While you're here at OW (as usual) and feeling sorry for me for being here at OW... what have you proven that I made up?
The Clinton campaign had workers who disseminated false information about Obama.
Olbermann reported FOX News' link with the information, why shouldn't he have reported the link with the Clinton campaign?
Additionally, since I know you read balanced material, check A Soldier's Perspective now and then. You can comment there.

Calling a person you have never met a lush? Accusing someone who has never made a racist comment a racist?
"I concern myself and post on matters a lot more significant than your tripe."
Was it you who said you come here strictly for entertainment? If not, why do you come here?
"Being prejudice is a sin."
Do you know my race?
Don't you understand the internet? I referred to a story that is not an opinion piece. I can't cut and paste it.
Like a dog fighting to desperately hold on to her bone....
I haven't responded to what Olbermann said or didn't say, b/c I didn't watch the show tonite...nor care what he says.
You Olbyhaters have one motive and one motive only.
Get Hillary !...and you know it.
What will you poor souls do if Obama wins the nomination?
Will your racist tendencies come out in full force...or cleverly try to conceal them , Ceals ?
You PLAY THE OLBERMANN game.....I concern myself and post on matters a lot more significant than your tripe.
Your priorities are embarrassing...and you probably know it, but you're too anal to admit it, Lush.
Posted by: Why Don't You Think at December 11, 2007 1:11 AM
Oh, but you did respond. You've responded by saying that Fox News was the originator of the story (wrong) and you've responded by saying that the Clinton campaign fired the people involved (after exposure) and therefore "end of story"...
You can ask if Jesus would have waterboarded....:D, but what you you can't seem to do is to make a simple judgment as to whether Olbemann should have reported about Clinton campaign involvement.
Especially since he had no trouble reporting on the Obama slur when he thought Fox News started the rumor.
You ARE as dumb as a shoe...
I suggested that you IGNORE real facts like this...not that you have a direct responsibility for it.
Got it?
Jeeeeezzzzzzzz
Eat that leather shoe, woman.

So how am I "ignoring" gang rape in Iraq by discussing Olbermann not covering the Clinton campaign link in an Obama smear, WDYT?
I started the thread by talking about Olbermann.
Let me go on record-- I'm against gang rape in Iraq.
Now.... why do you think Olbermann couldn't cover the Clinton campaign link in the Obama smear?
Cecilia, you should understand something about WDYT. He's a liar. He lied about me in another thread just minutes ago (the 'flag waving' one). I cornered him on it and he wailed that he had to leave to get back to his "real job". Only that was yet another lie from WDYT. He didn't leave for his job (if he has one) because here he is, over here.
It's always possible to have a productive discussion with people of differing views. But not with liars. If you can't believe what someone says, debate is a waste of time. Just thought you should know that WDYT has been caught lying again--actually twice in just the course of a half hour or so. Consider this news you can use.
You say I'm dumb but you can't see ( or won't admit)how you were wrong.....Funny.....
but you're more concerned about what Olbermann does.
Better start being more concerned about what YOU DO, you flaming Kristian hypocrite.
Time for another drink,Lush?
I think you need one.
Posted by: Why Don't You Think at December 11, 2007 1:48 AM
well, great. So your answer to why Olbermann couldn't finish a report he started is that I'm a hypocrite, a lush, and there's gang rape happening in Iraq.
What's next... you can't consider the point about Olbermann's bias because of global warming and the dog ate your homework?
Consider this news you can use.
Posted by: johnny dollar at December 11, 2007 1:54 AM
Honey, if he didn't exist, we could only fervently hope that Mike or Capon would make him up... :D
Hey WDYT? How's your "real job" going, liar?

The U.S. military could not confirm Saturday's attack, saying American aircraft searched the area for several hours and found no evidence of the killings. Iraqi ground forces approached Dwelah but came under small arms fire, said said Maj. Peggy Kageleiry, a spokeswoman for U.S. forces in northern Iraq.
FOLLOWED BY INTERVIEW OF MAJ. PEGGY KAGELEIRY, POSTED WITH HER PERMISSION, explaining why the story was bogus.
Yes, huge belly laugh
I proved you wrong AGAIN AT 1:36....and you keep with the insults...oh holy Christian woman.
You are a fraud.

That is really insightful. Please explain to all of us, if you are so will informed and this site is a fraud, why do you spend so much time here? One would think that someone with all of your self professed acumen would be running his own web site. Or perhaps, you would spend your time managing a political campaign. The immutable and poignant fact is that you are doing neither. You spend large amounts of time on this site and then have the audacity to accuse others of hypocrites. I think you need to seek new pastures. It’s safe to say that most the people here are cognizant to the actions of a b-grade grifter.
I thought the Bush on Mt Rushmore was AAP's gig?
ou're pathetic with what you consider important and spend all this time on.
My God woman. Have you no shame !
Maybe you should ask Olbermann himself since it's of monumental importance to you.
( but you will win some brownie points from Johnny 2 Bits for staying on topic at this site.)
Screw the refugees...right ?
Christianity 101 !
Posted by: Why Don't You Think at December 11, 2007 2:00 AM
Yep, global warming and the dog eating your homework will be next... :D
It was important enough a topic for you to chime in and blame Fox News, but once you found out there was more to the story, now it's not worth discussing?
However, I think in an hour long program, Olbermann can make time to report the Hillary campaign link and since you've decided not to worry about your students.... and stay up.....you can make time to venture whether or not he should have covered it.
How about it?
Hey WDYT? How's your "real job" going, liar?

A high aspiration for Bobo, indeed... :D
> You're the liar, fraud. You had a picture of Bush on Mt Rushmore and now you're claiming amnesia?
Here's a hint, WDYT. Repeating a lie over and over, each time with more vulgarity, does not make it true. It doesn't convince anyone except pathological liars. Perhaps it makes you feel better, but it doesn't change the truth.
Keep repeating the lie, however. Double down on dishonesty. I've asked you over and over to point to where I ever suggested anything such thing, and your response was to run away from that thread and continue your lying over here. I suppose it's asking too much for you to pull the same cowardly trick on this thread. It's not like it's a secret any more: everybody knows exactly what you are--a liar.
Have a nice day at your "real job" you left for over a half hour ago.

Johnny,
As long as there is gang rape in Iraq, Bobo can not be distracted from anything less important than that.
Unless, it's about you, Bush, and Mt. Rushmore...
Enjoyable thread....thanks guys....mental midget ignores the democrats keeping the wraps on "torture" by our professionals in the CIA for 5 years and now he ignores the racist techniques of HRC.

Ya, I have a real job, ya thats the ticket.
"We all know you are a loser by just being here."
LOL!
This statement should be added to the dictionary under the word "hypocrisy"....as a classic example of.....hypocrisy!
"I think senator McCain was speaking from experience... oh wait you meant Olbermann... He probably just listend to the likes of McCain who is of course a good man and has the good sense to oppose torture, having under gone it and deciding it didn't work."
###
Yes, John McCain has been consistent about waterboarding, however, Keith Olbermann has not been consistent with terating McCain with any shread of respect as a POW or great leader.
So again, choosing and picking allies for the moment is just another sign that Keith and many who post on this site, have NO ground to stand on regarding the morality or legality of waterboarding.
Aggressive interogation techniques do produce results and for someone to say, without a doubt, they have NEVER worked is demogoging.....Where the line is that turns something into torture is arguable and seems to be different to the democrats now when compared to 2002.....
Why?
Interesting read.
Giap's memoirs...
General Giap was a brilliant, highly respected leader of the NorthVietnam military. The following quote is from his memoirs currentlyfound in the Vietnam War Memorial in Hanoi: "What we still don't understand is why you Americans stopped thebombing of Hanoi. You had us on the ropes. If you had pressed us alittle harder, just for another day or two, we were ready tosurrender! It was the same at the battles of TET. You defeated us! Weknew it, and we thought you knew it. But we were elated to noticeyour media was definitely helping us. They were causing moredisruption in America than we could in the battlefields. We wereready to surrender. You had won!" General Giap has published his memoirs and confirmed what mostAmericans knew. The Vietnam war was not lost in Vietnam - it was lostat home. The exact same slippery slope, sponsored by the US media, iscurrently well underway. It exposes the enormous power of a biasedmedia to cut out the heart and will of the American public. A truism worthy of note: Do not fear the enemy, for they can takeonly your life. Fear the media far more, for they will destroy yourhonor.
"If you cut and paste from some posters, you'll need to do this often."

Out-of-the-gate ticket sales for the Dixie Chicks' upcoming Accidents & Accusations tour are far below expectations and several dates will likely be cancelled or postoned.
Initial ticket counts for the 20-plus arena shows that went on sale last weekend were averaging 5,000-6,000 per show in major markets and less in secondaries, according to sources contacted by Billboard. Venue capacities on the tour generally top 15,000.
The movie Redacted is closing in on the all important $200,000 Worldwide Gross milestone...and it only took 17 days!!

The War on Christmas is but a symptom of a much larger fight Identity Crisis
BY JACK HUNTER
an excerpt:
As poet Robert Frost once said, "A liberal is a man too broad-minded to take his own side in a quarrel," and this is exactly where America is today. That it is now controversial to merely say "Christmas" or to display nativity scenes, whether public or private, or even to display religious symbols associated with the yuletide season is not the cause but merely a symptom of a country that has begun to lose its identity. Irving Berlin, hardly a right-wing fanatic, wouldn't know what to make of an America that would reject the most crucial portions of its heritage — particularly Christmas and Christianity — in the name of broad-mindedness. And normal, patriotic Americans, those who rightly take offense to attacks on Christmas or any of the other traditions they grew up with, are looked down upon as not being "progressive" enough for refusing to hasten their cultural demise.
As Olbermann and Todd have pointed out, the actual degree to which the War on Christmas actually exists is arguable, and make no doubt, some overstate the problem for dubious reasons. However, that the War on Christmas exists at all is disheartening.
It was T.S. Eliot who believed that culture is that "which makes life worth living." As with Christmas and our entire American heritage, what kind of nation we live in will be decided by whether we continue to accept and protect the gifts of our ancestors — or take the advice of those who hate them.

The gifts of our ancestors, when it comes to Christmas, are not many, unless our ancestors were German, Dutch, French or Scandinavian.

Translation: "I hate this country and its traditions"
Great Thanks.
The United States is a melting pot not a salad bar. The traditions we bring to the United States are assimilated into the culture of the United States. We do not assimilate the culture to the tradition of the latest "oppressed" group including secularist.
Now you are just rambling. What does your statement have to do with the ACLU suing any town that puts up a Christmas Tree or a Nativity scene in the town square? None. Is your bedroom the town square?
"Leave me the hell alone."
###
I guess that includes......
As little taxation and governmental social programs that invade the nuclear family, usurping the responsibilities of mothers, fathers and other caregivers.
Not imposing a defintion of marriage that is conflicting with my personal religious views.
Not imposing civil rights laws on who I rent my private property to based on my own prejudices.
Not taking my private property for private use or enrichment.
Not imposing laws protecting the weak....abortion, infanticide, laws against child abuse, pedophilia, elder and disabled person abuse....etc.
Being able to buy any firearm I wish to.
When is the government supposed to leave me alone, sir?
Mmmm, Mr. blank-FLUCKER....is your MANLY statement only covering you and Graeme's egg nog toast in fromt of ol' Tannenbaum this XMass eve?
How quant and deep! I am sure your silly family traditions will make a great impact for your "god."
Poor Mr. blank-FLUCKER....a twisted mind of contradictions and self-loathing.
Graeme, pass me the tinsel....ol' Tannenbaum is losing her luster!
Where's the mistletoe....Ms. blank-FLUCKER?
hiccup!
Just for the record Why Dont You Think is NOT news you can use.

So true. There's absolutely nothing useful about him... :D
Oh come on... ridicule, yes, scorn, no. There's a difference. I've got a type of fondness for Bobo that one might feel for the crazy paranoiac next door. He adds to the personality of the cyber-neighborhood here.
I've never had lemon tiramisu. Sounds delicious! I first made the traditional dish a couple of years ago after I discovered my grocer stocking mascarpone.
I haven't eaten and your menu has made me hungry.
I suggest you try a little dried cod with the meal, unless you're putting anchovies in the salad. Some people do. I love the salty flavor of the cod and it has that Mediterranean sensibility.
Maybe as part of an antipasto platter.
The movie Redacted is closing in on the all important $200,000 Worldwide Gross milestone...and it only took 17 days!!

All of them left wing cooks. why conveniently forgot to mention that. Shocker.
"All of them left wing cooks."
I know several attorneys, and none of them are cooks.
In fact, I believe one of them went to law school so he wouldn't have to be a cook for the rest of his life.
A couple of the others do enjoy the occasional backyard barbecue though.
Is that what you meant?
"All of them left wing cooks. why conveniently forgot to mention that. Shocker."
Chef RK Stupid!
How 'bout far left lunatics. Trying to tell me 'the nation' isn't a far left whacko site? I guess mike is the resident expert in the 'cook' category. How soon I forget. Olbyloons got nothing so they go after typos. Shocker. It seems like they would try to distance them selves from the 'sterotype' of such a practice. Guess not. Desperate, indeed.
Royal King: "I guess mike is the resident expert in the 'cook' category. How soon I forget. Olbyloons got nothing so they go after typos. Shocker."
There is a THIRD option that you are not seeing at all Jeff. Sometimes ALL I am doing is injecting a little humor into the discussion. That is all I was doing at 11:44 PM.
If I had really wanted to attack your left wing 'kook' argument, I could have easily done so without going after a spelling error.
Calling people 'kooks' simply because they disagree with you and what your president has done regarding our Constitution is both disingenuous and an uncalled for provocation to those of us who believe differently for very good reasons.
I'm sorry you can't see this but one thing is very clear.....you need to learn how to LIGHTEN UP a little!
One of the many things that I learned while serving in the military was how to laugh and see humor in bad situations. The military is also where I learned how different, yet alike, we all really are. I met more anti-war people within the military than I ever did outside the military.....and that is one reason that I KNOW that you are wrong with your repeated assertions that all the troops think monolithically....They don't!
Oh well....Merry Christmas anyway!

Back atcha.
"Also speaking with reporters was Jesselyn Raddack, a former Justice Department ethics lawyer who served as an advisor during the interrogation of John Walker Lindh (the "American Taliban")."
Taken from 'whys' nation article. An avid defender of the enemy is one of the 1000 laywers out of 9 million or so 'speaking out' against President Bush.
Ethics, accountability, oversight...all dirty words to RK and the republicans....All three words that attempt to check the balance of power in our government.

No thanks for defending a defender of our enemy! It's obvious who's side you are on.
A N O N Y M O U S,
I read the link from The Nation, and see nothing that makes any sort of claim of domestic law and order malfeasance other than some sort of extrapolation of the so-called domestic wiretapping program.
You seem to be arguing that the U.S. has some sort of draconian penal system while giving only the example of states who are giving prisoners early parole.
I'm down with the notion that capital punishment distinguishes our system from Europe's and that it should even be stopped, but you're going to have to be more specific about the more severe types of codes and standards within the judicial system that have been implemented by the Bush Administration.
And, of course, to a point, an activist right wing judiciary has rubber-stamped some of the more draconian aspects of the criminal justice systems, hasn't it? The good news there is that most judges, most lawyers, do respect the law and the rule of law (in contrast to the Administration which rather abhors the rule of law) and tend to act to curb the impulse to enact from the bench a complete right-wing agenda. The most recent evidence of that is, of course, the crack case, and the most glaring examples of right wing jurists not constrained by a respect for law and the rule of law are Scalia and Thomas. I suppose they are the exceptions which prove the rule.
Posted by: A N O N Y M O U S at December 27, 2007 5:25 PM
Well, then there shouldn't have any difficulty with being more specific about these draconian systems in the south and how they differ with the more enlightened systems in other regions of the country.
So far you haven't even gotten gotten out of the realm of the nebulous and rhetorical to the territory of the mere rhetorical-- by specifically saying that it's a long way from Jackson, Mississippi to Washington, D.C. However, maybe denouncement of the DOJ and certain Justices (if not actual S.C. decisions and the actual DOJ tabling of investigations...) on the highest court in the land, makes even that faint specificity moot...
Nice speech for the peanut gallery. Heck no we didn't expect you to be bound by the text from The Nation piece. I doubt you even read it. You can churn this stuff out in your sleep...
Philby be 'bound by text?' We can't be having that.............:)

Then, we can engage in a meaningful and important discussion.

Spare me.. I suppose a reading list is an improvement over your usual tactic of conjuring up racists and such when asked for more than gasbagging.
The truth is that it's you who aren't interested in anything more than giving blustery cliched speechifying about "RWers" and comically dogging RK in your quest to inflict hyperbolic insane clown posse blueblog tedium upon anyone who doesn't think as you do.
I don't know if among your gifts and skills is langauge, but have you ever done an internet translation from English into another language with which you are even remotely familiar? It is disastrous. It makes absolutely no sense.
Well, I'm sorry I irritated you on the first day of the new year. That wasn't my intention. You have a super day and a fantastic new year.

Though your favorite debate strategy of issuing non-sequitur accusations of racism recently gave way to your issuing a reading list in lieu of discussion, I see your next favorite strategy of "you don't make sense" is still very much in effect.
Good grief you're a gasbag.
