Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 29, 2008

    Bathtub Boy

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Nobody

    Topics/Guests:

    • Nobody

This year there is always news breaking,
But on Countdown there's nothing new baking.
    It's another news snub
    Bathtub Boy's in his tub,
As a Day Off Herr Olbermann's taking.

    Keith Limpermann

If it's Friday, it's our weekly assessment of Krazy Keith's masculinity. This week, Monkeymann attacked Fox and other broadcasters 35 times. Olby's source (Hillary Clinton's Media Matters) criticized (MS)NBC 17 times, but Keithy protected his corporate masters with zero criticisms. That makes this week's Olbermann Manhood Quotient: -104 [eunuch limp].

I will be on NPR's Talk of the Nation this afternoon.

I am going to take some time out from the critical work I do here each day - making the world safe from the most dangerous man in journalism today - and waste it by discussing the International Olympic Committees recent decision to allow athletes and coaches to blog at the Beijing games this summer and such trivialities as the free speech implications, Chinese censorship of blogs and how issues like Darfur and Taiwan might come into play.

If you are not able to tune in live between 3 and 4 PM ET today you can listen via their web site once they get the podcast up at the NPR Talk of the Nation web site.

One of the other scheduled guests is supposed to be Tommie Smith who knows a little bit about what happens when Olympic athletes engage in free expression.

UPDATE: It's turned into media day for me with three different media appearance on three different topics. The web audio of the NPR Talk of the Nation broadcast is online at NPR.org I am quoted in a story on the new Internet Safety Technical Task Force. And yet another story on the battle between bloggers and journalists on PBS.org.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 27, 2008

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • HILLARY DOWN, OBAMA UP: Dana Milbank, Eugene Robinson
    • OBAMA'S CASH: David "Slippery" Shuster
    • OBAMA'S BRILLIANT, McCAIN IS STUPID: Margaret Carlson

Keith Oralmann barked the opening spiel: Super delegates switching to Obama! Obama is "unflappable"! Obama's advantages! Slam on McCain! CunninghamGate! ClemensGate! But that's chump change. Wait until you get to Bathtub Boy actually uttering a criticism of Barack Obama--you won't believe why. It's hump day at Olbermann Watch.

    Bathtub Boy

#5: Clinton worried about Super delegates (Blue Blog Source: HuffPo). Every defection is "symbolic" (what, not a "metaphor"?) Debate: Clinton made "attack after attack", Obama "unrattled", "well prepared", "unflappable" (again!), will "resonate with voters". Clinton "tries to scold" Obama, who didn't "John McCain it" and gave a straightforward answer, "so rare in politics". Yikes, Keith, Stop drooling! Dana Milbank, sans splashy suits, nattered that the media see Hillary as "a loser" and was Great Thanksed. Hillary trying to "stall" the Super delegates. Robinson parroted; he wasn't Great Thanksed but he was Pleasured.

    Bathtub Boy

#4: Obama's cash surge! But first, breaking news! Hillary was asked about a "dream ticket", but didn't answer. With that breaking news out of the way, on to Obama's moolah. Obama never agreed to accept public financing; his position was actually "very nuanced". Keith pimped out Slippery Shuster, who rationalized away a Barack discrepancy over donations.

Comedian! [Ding!] After attacking CNN for bragging how they beat Countdown in February, Olby went on to #3: McCain "tries to school" Obama on Iraq, but gets "smoked" by Obama who "runs rings around him". And then, the bizarre, the unusual, the unexpected. Yes, worthy of Ripley's Believe It Or Not. Bathtub Boy actually utters a criticism of Barack Obama. And it's an OlbyPlanet classic: Oralmann complained because Obama said he respects McCain's service. No, we are not making this up. Hey, people, this is what's called a "news hour"? Monkeymann claims to be a "journalist"? He's no Edward R Murrow. You want a better comparison? Think Leni Riefenstahl. Leftist Carlson of the constipated face yammered.

#2: Bill Buckley remembrance, with Merkle taking the opportunity to roar how "gloriously wrong" he was on so many things. #1: Roger Clemens..

In the Media Matters Minute, Herr Olbermahn attacked "lunatic fringer" Jonah Goldberg (Blue Blog Source: Hillary Clinton's Media Matters), and a Republican (natch!) Florida state rep (Blue Blog Source: DailyKos). "Worst" was John McCain, for not remembering that he met Bill Cunningham (Blue Blog Source: AmericaBlog). We don't think there's been an Hour of Spin with such a lopsided ObamaSuckUp-to-McCainSmear ratio as this one, complete with "Man on Fan" Olbermann actually objecting to honoring his wartime service. If this were 1974, Keith would be Jane Fonda.

    MisterMeter

    Tonight's MisterMeter reading: 2 [LOW]

And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 662nd day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will be indicted".

MSM KO Bandwagon #479: LA Times Goes for the Another Gold

Members of the Television Critics Association are required annually to perform a bit of verbal fellatio on Keith Olbermann in order to remain in good standing with the venerated organization. Matea Gold was past due on her account but was marked "paid in full" after her OlbyLovin' puff-piece in yesterday's L.A. Times.

Loyal OlbyWatch readers will recall that Gold interviewed the world's leading authority on Keith Olbermann for her previous bit of lefty propaganda posing as "journalism" all the way back in November 2006. Wow! 15 months since her last KO Profile. What will the neighbors think!

Here's a few tidbits worth noting:

830,000 viewers on average have tuned in during weekday prime time -- 46% more than last year.

You know what that means right? Keith has been DROPPING in the Demo for the past year and any growth he's shown has been in that Geritol bracket that Keith was mocking just a few shorts months ago! After years of hyping "the demo" MSNBC and their allies in the MSM have dispensed with once it no longer allowed them to calculate doubt-digit "growth" for Countdown. Of course, that might mean comparing Keith's TOTAL audience to O'Reilly where he gets trounced nightly - so Gold ignores such cross-network comparisons and confines herself to whatever good news she can mine from the Nielsen ratings.

"Our people are not in straitjackets," said Phil Griffin, NBC News' senior vice president in charge of MSNBC.

Interesting that Keith's boss would be using the term "straightjacket" when referencing Keith :-)

Tom Fiedler, the visiting Murrow lecturer at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, rejected the idea "that you can move from one side to the other and not confuse most viewers. I don't think even Fox would attempt to take Bill O'Reilly and put him in a position of being seen as a news anchor."

A nice bit of irony here. The "Murrow lecturer" at Harvard? Ripping Keith and praising Fox News? What next, a glowing tribute to Rush Limbaugh in the New York Times Sunday magazine?

The November 2006 article is no longer online at latimes.com so for those who missed here is the "exchange" I had with Keith via Matea:

Robert Cox, who runs Olbermann Watch, a critical blog that monitors the cable news host's comments, said that Olbermann employs some of the same tactics that he decries.

"I think at the end of the day he has, by and large, become that which he has criticized - a demagogue like Bill O'Reilly," said Cox, a management consultant in New Rochelle, N.Y.

    Olbermann rejects the comparison.

"I'm not trying to whip up a political frenzy," he said. "If I was out there every night beating people over the head with this, I would become a Rush Limbaugh. That's not my goal. I don't make the facts up to fit the political viewpoint that happens to parallel what it is I'm trying to express."

I say Keith is a demagogue. He denies it. I leave it to the readers to judge who's right.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 25, 2008

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • CLINTON V BARACK: Richard Wolffe, Dee Dee Myers
    • AP & CNN DO NOT HAVE A CRUSH ON OBAMA: Rachel Maddow, Err America
    • McCAIN DOUBLE TALK: David Shuster, A-Mess-NBC

Could it be? Will we get Day Four of the McCain flogging? Is the Pope a Catholic? Oralmann bellowed the opening spiel: Obama in the lead! Clinton campaign "jumping the shark"! Lapel pins! Yes, Day Four! It's blue Monday at Olbermann Watch, a day when Merkle's writers worked overtime scouring the blue blogs for story ideas.

    Bathtub Boy

#5: It could be Clinton's "political obituary". Her campaign is "off the tracks". The leaked Obamaphoto "emailed to various media" (no way Keithy is going to credit Drudge). Series of Hillary clips with requisite sarcastic snarks. Man, when Kos tells Olby which way to jump, all he can say is, "how high?" The Wolffeman simpered and was Great Thanksed.

(Side note: for all the loose talk about how Fox hates Hillary, we've never seen any of their news programs do a one-sided attack on her like Herr Olbermann served up tonight. She was right when she said Fox treats her more fairly than MSNBC.)

Why is the Clinton campaign floundering and why can't Hillary be more nice? Dee Dee Myers bloviated--a nice change from Maddow as Dee Dee actually has a background in political analysis. Just don't let her drive you home from a party.

#4: Time to attack the Associated Press (Blue Blog Source: HuffPo) and CNN too (Blue Blog Source: Daily Kos). "Far right"! [Ding!] (There is no "far left" on OlbyPlanet.) The RNC is "racist". [Ding!] Oralmann objected to the AP quoting Roger Stone (Blue Blog Source: Hillary Clinton's Media Matters). Oops, we spoke too soon. Keith pimped out Maddow, now an expert on journalism. She wasn't Great Thanksed, but she was Pleasured.

Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly book Culture Warrior

#3: McCain's "double talk". How long until the New York Times story comes up? Tick... not even time for tock. Just ten seconds! Day Four into the record books. Flip-flop on Iraq! Flip-flop on Paxson! "Outright deceit". Glam photo of the female lobbyist displayed. The sextuply-discredited Slippery Shuster sneered: "I'm convinced that John McCain will, in fact, be indicted." Well, not really. But we couldn't resist.

#2: Razzies, Brangelina. #1: SNL and the Oscars (Olby actually complaining about a Jon Stewart Obama joke that Stewart's been using for months!). Coultergeist! [Ding!]

In the Media Matters Minute, Herr Olbermahn attacked tv station WHNT in Alabama because a report on Karl Rove was "mysteriously" blacked out (Blue Blog Source: Daily Kos). Another Olbermann lie; there was nothing "mysterious" about it. He also said viewers there didn't see the report on WHNT. Yet Another Olbermann Lie: it aired just a few hours later. Of course, Olby left that part out. Next up, Fixed News [Ding!] (Blue Blog Source: Hillary Clinton's Media Maters), and Bathtub Boy took it up a notch with the lie that Fox "compared Obama to Chairman Mao". And yet again Fox Noise [Ding!]: this time "liar" Mort Kondracke (Blue Blog Source: Hillary Clinton's Media Matters). Fixed News! [Ding!]

    MisterMeter

    Tonight's MisterMeter reading: 2 [LOW]

And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 660th day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will be indicted".

How Olbermann Tricks His Audience: The Lie of Omission

There are many techniques to turn news into propaganda, and Keith Olbermann knows them all. Friday night's Hour of Spin provided an example so typical, and so deceptively elegant, that the credulous viewer (Countdown's stock in trade) no doubt swallowed it whole, oblivious to the disinformation tactics used by Herr Olbermann. They're not new, as those old enough to remember The Third Reich can attest, but even they didn't deploy them with Keith Oralmann's ruthless virtuosity.

    Bathtub Boy

The purpose was, of course, to smear a Republican: John McCain. And Olby was in top form. Here is, verbatim and in its entirety, what he had to say about a fund-raising email from the McCain camp:

The Senator meantime continued to try to have it both ways, refusing to take any questions about the story while campaigning at Indianapolis, while at the same time continuing to try to raise money based on the Times report with his campaign's most successful fund-raising email to date. It read in part: Objective observers are viewing this article exactly as they should: as a sleazy smear attack from a liberal newspaper against the conservative Republican front-runner. Sean Hannity said, after reading the article three times, etcetera. Washington attorney Bob Bennett, who was the Democrat council during the Keating investigation said, etcetera. "Objective observer" Bob Bennett is McCain's attorney. "Objective observer Sean Hannity is: Sean Hannity."

The first thing clear-headed readers will note is that Edward R Olbermann stripped out all the quotes from Hannity and Bennett, replacing the substance with a generic "etcetera". These quotes were just a few words. Why take them out? So as not to allow the other side of the issue to be heard. Plus the dismissive use of "etcetera" immediately marginalizes any comments they made as not even worth hearing. Keith Olbermann, gate-keeper of the nation's free flow of information!

But there's more. Note the sarcastic use of "objective observer" to describe Bennett and Hannity. This is archetypical Bathtub Boy humor, and it works with his gullible lemmings because Bennett and Hannity do have dogs in this hunt. (Of course so does Olbermann, but he is exempt from the laws of OlbyPlanet.) Yet there's something else Olbermann's dupes don't know, because he didn't tell them about it: the missing sentences, stripped from that paragraph by Merkle. To be aware of that you'd have to read the original email, and the full, undoctored paragraph:

Objective observers are viewing this article exactly as they should - as a sleazy smear attack from a liberal newspaper against the conservative Republican frontrunner. Sean Hannity said, after reading the article three times, "It was so full of innuendo and so lacking of fact, and so involved in smear, I came to the conclusion that the goal here was to bring up a 20-year-old scandal." Washington attorney Bob Bennett, who was the Democrat counsel during the Keating investigation, said, "This is a real hit job." Joe Scarborough called the allegations "outrageous." Even pundit Alan Colmes--not known for his conservative leanings--concludes "this is a non-story."

So one of the email's "objective observers" was a liberal: Alan Colmes. This poses a problem. People might actually consider him "objective", and that would ruin Olby's snarky joke. So poor Mr Colmes got erased.

Even worse, the email quotes Joe Scarborough! The guy "Man on Fan" Olbermann chit-chats with during election night coverage. And--worst of all--he works for A-Mess-NBC, Krazy Keith's corporate masters. KO can't very well make a sarcastic crack about Scarborough's objectivity, let alone allow Joe's comments to be heard. What's a discredited baseball card collector to do? Simple: just as with Alan Colmes, strip all mention of Scarborough from the email. Presto! He becomes a non-person. And the propaganda flows.

So the operation was a success. Monkeymann was able to misrepresent the contents of an email, the arguments stated therein, the ideological diversity of the people quoted, and even whom they worked for. All made possible by a carefully targeted and deployed lie of omission.

Keith Olbermann, the next Edward R Murrow? More like the next Joseph Goebbels.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 22, 2008

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • 2008 ELECTION: Dana Milbank, Washington Post national political reporter; Jonathan Alter, Newsweek senior editor and MSNBC political analyst; David Shuster, MSNBC correspondent; Dan Froomkin, washingtonpost.com
    • BILL O'REILLY "CONTROVERSY": Rev. Jesse Jackson

The operative number tonight is "three". Day three of flogging the John McCain story. Day three of flogging the "irredeemable racist" O'Reilly. Opening spiel: Hillary is "not so conciliatory". Plagiarism charge backfires on Hillary. McCain again! FISA! O'Reilly attack #420! It's a "non-apology"! The Rev Jackson! And Olbypocrisy to the ultimate power! It's casual Friday at Olbermann Watch.

    Bathtub Boy

#5: Clip of Hillary. Oralmann accuses her of plagiarizing from John Edwards (Blue Blog Source: HuffPo). A Hillary staffer at an Obama rally: it's a "microcosm"! ("Metaphor" had the night off.) Dana Milbank, lacking loud livery, yammered as Bear used his affected, phony laughter as punctuation. Dana was Great Thanksed.

The pile-on continued. Clinton has not "clarified" her campaign. She contradicted herself "literally seconds later". Her answers change "literally every 15 seconds". (Is "literally" the new "assidiously"?) Lefty Alter nattered in football analogies, and we're lucky "Man on Fan" Olbermann didn't resort to saying Barack "Chicken and Waffles" Obama. Lefty opined Clinton's best move is to get out of the race, and for that he was Great Thanksed.

After a plug for "Lock-Up Raw: Violence Behind Bars" came #4: more McCain flogging (Blue Blog Source: BuzzFlash). McCain "tries to have it both ways". McCain attacks the NYTimes! The only nod to any substantive criticism of the Times article was Olby sarcastically noting comments by the White House, McCain's lawyer, and Sean Hannity. Are they the only people raising questions about the journalism? Well they are on OlbyPlanet. (See canines, below.) Oh, and Edward R Olbermann says this is all the Republicans fault for nominating a dishonest candidate.

    Bathtub Boy

McCain: Hypocrisy! Corruption! Slippery Shuster, having finished his double-secret off the record probation, sneered his way through Day Three of the McCain jihad with a dissertation on "letters", "issues", and the like. He was Great Thanksed, despite his previous infractions. Oh that's OK. He apologized. Yeah. More on that below.

#3: Fisa fears. Another rehash. Radical right! [Ding!] Come to think of it, isn't it the third day flogging this story too? Bad things do come in threes. Dan Froomkin parrotted.

#2: The Media Matters Minute: Frank Luntz (Blue Blog Source: Hillary Clinton's Media Matters...you can see the unedited video of this shocking outrage here). Fixed News! [Ding!] Worst: Mukasey and McConnell for not wanted to lose valuable intelligence.

#1: O'Reilly attack #420. Yep, it's day three of the holy war against the eeevil O'Reilly. So what if he apologized? Jesse "Hymie-Town" Jackson said it wasn't an apology at all. And Olby insisted it was a "flaccid non-apology" because he said "if my statement offended anybody".

    DrudgeSiren.gif

Stop the tivo! Olbypocrisy Alert! Was it a flaccid non-apology when Al Sharpton--on MSNBC--said "if I offended Mormons with the misuse of my words, I would apologize"? Or how about Chris Matthews: "If I offended anybody, I'm sorry"? Oh and most delicious of all, your very own Slippery Shuster: "To the extent that people feel I was being pejorative, I apologize for that." We're waiting for you to do three days of resignation demands on these people, Olbercrite!

    OLBY

Quiescent canines: Day after day of smearing John McCain, a P.O.W. and decorated war hero. Of course Keithy did not go into the ethics of the New York Times piece, even though several distinguished journalists have been strongly crtitical. That's because Bear is a slovenly political hack. Plus Day after day of smearing Bill O'Reilly for defending Michelle Obama with a word Fat Ass doesn't like. (And we know what kind of words are on the Bathtub Boy approved list.) So with all that important, breaking news to cover, Olbermannijad just didn't have time to make any mention of this. Aside from his weird, homoerotic Olbsession with Bill O'Reilly, Oralmann's most predictable spin is covering for his buddies in Tehran.

    Keith Limpermann

If it's Friday, it's our weekly assessment of Krazy Keith's masculinity. This week, Monkeymann attacked Fox and other broadcasters 26 times. Olby's source (Hillary Clinton's Media Matters) criticized (MS)NBC 11 times, but Keithy protected his corporate masters with zero criticisms. That makes this week's Olbermann Manhood Quotient: -74 [sissy limp].

And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 657th day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will be indicted".

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 20, 2008

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • DECISION 2008: Chuck Todd, NBC News political director; Jonathan Alter, Newsweek senior editor and MSNBC political analyst

Keith Oralmann skipped the opening spiel, because of Big, Huge News: ten years ago McCain's staff kept a female lobbyist away from him because they feared there might be a romantic involvement. Man, KO sat in the bathtub rather than report on this stuff when it involved Bill Jefferson Clinton, but now it's so important that Oralmann comes on early and even bumps the opening spiel! This is all, as you will see, a demonstration of Monkeymann's "restraint". And there's more: the OlbyPocrisy meter tonight went way past 11, in as repellent and deranged a spectacle as the infamous, deplorable one has ever engaged in. Oh, we almost forgot: it's hump day at Olbermann Watch.

    Bathtub Boy

#5: It's "eerily similar" to the Lewinsky situation. It's "deja vu"! Oh really? Did John McCain lie under oath and try to fix a court case? Merkle: hey, remember McCain's savings and loan "scandal"? The Wolffe Man simpered by phone and lefty Alter nattered via satellite that right now it's fairly thin. Buchanan via phone didn't think it's much of a story adding that the Times's charges are "terribly unfair". So wouldn't that description apply to Bear's hysterical frothing as well? Remember, the key factor here is Edward R Olbermann'a eagerness to hype and repeat "breaking news" that is immeasurably less newsworthy than the B.J. Clinton situation, the situation that found him gurgling in his bathtub.

Hilariously, right after boasting about the "restraint" he was showing in covering what could have been "an improper relationship", unless it wasn't, Fat Ass promptly plugged segment #4: Even more about McCain and the lobbyist! Perhaps Bear should work on his restraint a little more assiduously. After the break Merkle read from the article for what must have been the 89th time. Restraint. Chuck Todd played Kreskin and said the Times may know more than they printed. Again, Olby brings up Clinton/Lewinsky! More restraint. Reads from the article yet again.

#3: Here's an idea: let's read those quotes from the article yet again. That's "restraint" on OlbyPlanet. With half the show over, it's finally on to another topic: the Dems. Delegate counting with Todd.

#2: None. In the Media Matters Minute, Herr Olbermahn was more deplorable than ever. Not for attack #416 on O'Reilly: Bill stepped in that one fair and square (Olby's Blue Blog Source: TVNewser, but the true source is one that Herr Olbermoronn would never admit to). Of course Olby told a few fibs to make it juicier. Then another attack on E.D. Hill (Blue Blog Source: Hillary Cliton's Media Matters). Fixed News! [Ding!] Fox Noise! [Ding!]

Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly book Culture Warrior

But Bathtub Boy's fevered Olbsession reached new heights of repellent psychosis when he did an entire segment on Bill O'Reilly. On his radio show Mr Bill was defending Michelle Obama over her recent controversial statement, saying he didn't want a "lynching party" going after her without evidence. Oralmann, under orders from his masters (Blue Blog Source: Hillary Clinton's Media Matters) frothed at the mouth about why O'Reilly shouldn't have a job, why he's eeevil because he used the word lynching.

    DrudgeSiren.gif

Stop the tivo! OLBYPOCRISY ALERT!! How is it that it's OK for MSNBC to allow "lynching" as in the media "lynching of Hillary Clinton"? And for Dan Abrams to read that quote on the air? Approvingly? And need we remind you, Monkeymann, that a guest on your very own Hour of Spin trivialized the term by talking about a singer being "lynched if he appeared at a karaoke contest"? Where was your outrage over your own network, your own program, your own miserable performance?

And here you--the man censured by the Anti-Defamation League--you are claiming Bill O'Reilly is a racist and should be fired because he used the word in defending Michelle Obama? Hey, Olberdunce? Frack you!

Who to Believe? The Director of National Intelligence...or Keith Olbermann?

Money Quote Gibson compares expertise of Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell and Keith Olbermann:

McConnell is a graduate of the National Defense University and the National Defense Intelligence College. He worked as an intelligence officer for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the United States Secretary of Defense during Desert Shield/Desert Storm and the dissolution of the Soviet Union. He's a spy. He developed approaches for improving information flow among intelligence agencies and combat forces in the Gulf War. He served as Director of the National Security Agency. He's a retired Vice Admiral in the U.S. Navy after 29 years of service, 26 as a career intelligence officer. In addition to many of the nation's highest military awards he holds the nation's highest award for service in the intelligence community. He also served as the Chairman of the Intelligence and National Security Alliance.

Keith Olbermann went to Cornell University, collected baseball cards and did sports broadcasting for twenty plus years.

Gibson references a story from "Press TV" which is the Iranian version of Al Jazeera.

PressTV (Iran) Olbermann: "You are a liar Mr. Bush"

For those not familiar with Press TV, Wikipedia describes it as "an English language international television news channel which is funded by the Iranian government, based in Tehran and broadcasts in English on a round-the-clock schedule."

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 18, 2008

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • OBAMA VS CLINTON: Howard Fineman, Chris Cillizza
    • AL GORE: Jonathan Alter
    • JOHN McCAIN: James Moore

It's the Daily Kos's very own Keith Olbermann, back at his anchor desk and ready to kick off another Hour of Spin with the ritual opening spiel: Wisconsin! John Edwards! Dirty Campaigning: how dare they call Obama a plagiarist? Clinton attacks Obama! JFK Conspiracies! It's blue Monday at Olbermann Watch.

    Bathtub Boy

#5: Clinton accuses Obama of plagiarism, but Olby sez it ain't so because Barack credited his source once in December. Plus he came up with a bunch of lines Hillary borrowed from somewhere (guess who's campaign sent Bear those talking points?) and tossed in some ridicule of Howard Wolfson. Tight race in Wisconsin, even tighter in Texas. The Pundit for All Occasions nattered but was not Great Thanksed.

Then Olby continued in Obamapologist mode, defending his flip-flop on public financing and attacking Hillary for bringing it up. How dare she make the same criticism ("echoing what a Republican says") as McCain?!? Plus another attack on McCain--like the cherry on a sundae to the infamous, deplorable one. Cillizza yammered and was Great Thanksed.

#4: Al Gore has still not endorsed anyone. And Francisco Franco is still dead. Lefty Alter chattered that the party musn't be split apart but was not Great Thanksed.

After calling Fox News viewers "zombies" Keith "Man on Fan" Olbermann finally got to #3: John McCain with the Bush's Brain [Ding!] guy! Bush has "stink" on him. It's "irresponsible" not to raise taxes. Bush's Brain! [Ding!]

#2: Nicole Kidman, Andy Pettitte. #1: JFK assasination theories.

In the Media Matters Minute, Edward R Olbermann attacked Glenn Beck (Blue Blog Source: Crooks & Liars), the "lunatic right-wing" Heritage Foundation (Blue Blog Source: Salon), and worst was "Mister" Bush (Blue Blog Source: Carpetbagger Report) and his "calumny" and "fear tactics". What's next for Olbermann? Get out a Bush doll and smash it to bits on his desk?

    OLBY

    MisterMeter

Dogs That Did Not Bark: Keith Oralmann will only go so far. With the Obama "plagiarism" scandal a lead story all over the channels, he couldn't very well ignore it (it was more politic to just minimize it). But in giving it pro forma attention, that gave Bear cover to neatly avoid other things that might prove a bit embarrassing on OlbyPlanet, like Michelle Obama being ashamed of her country for the last 26 years. There's also Bill Jefferson Clinton's latest non-bimbo eruption, along with more evidence to support Oralmann's insistence that Iran is not a threat. Are you convinced yet? Oh, and we had no doubt whatsoever that Edward R Olbermann wouldn't dare, wouldn't dare!, award a "worst person" for this! Tonight's MisterMeter reading: 1 [LOW]

And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 653rd day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will in fact be indicted".

A few thoughts for President's Day

Today is the day we celebrate and give thanks for George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington and all the other great Presidents who have ruled over this country with an iron fist - and do our best to forget disastrous presidencies like those of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. Anticipating no KO tonight, I've got a few notes and a sort of open thread for folks here.

Some readers have noticed we've been experimenting with various online services such as flickr, Del.icio.us, Feedburner, Technorati and others over the past year and now we're trying something that brings them all together in one place. Yahoo Pipes is a relatively new service which allows users to blend together various data and feeds into a single RSS feed. So, what we've done this weekend is to create a sort of Uber-Olby feed based on articles we "tag" using the Del.icio.us bookmarking service, Technorati searches for "high authority" blogs that tag posts with "Olbermann", our Flickr account full of KO photos, as Ebay, Google News/Blogs and a Wikipedia Watch List which monitors any changes to the Wikipedia Entries for "Keith Olbermann" and "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" which, as many regulars know are basically pro-KO propaganda managed by the OlbyLoons over at KO.org. All of these different information sources are aggregated into a single feed, auto-updated in real time and then passed through to Feedburner to display as a HTML feed. We set it up so the 5 most recent entries are displayed but you can click the "feedburner" link below it to either subscribe to that feed yourself or go back and reader previous entries. Basically, if anyone is writing about Keith on blogs, selling KO products on Ebay, commenting on a KO product on Amazon, if there are news stories about him, if someone is updating KO's Wikipedia entry, OlbyWatch will display that information here as it happens. One caution, there was a tremendous backlog of material when we created this particular "Yahoo Pipe" and it may take a few days for the software to "pull" all the old posts through the feed. So, keep an eye out but realize it is still a work in progress. If you are familiar with Yahoo Pipes and wish to suggest other feeds we might add to our Pipe post them below.

One item from an Amazon Forum for Keith latest "book" caught my eye when it came across the new Yahoo Pipe feed:

An Amazon customer wonders WHO could be flagging "negative" reviews of Keith's latest cut and paste job book. Gee, maybe the same OlbyLoons who did this with Keith's last "book" and "run" the Keith Olbermann Wikipedia entry?

Regular OW readers will recall that Keith specifically begged for positive Amazon reviews on Countdown which the fangirls over at KO.org then obligingly provided - all the while engaging in a campaign to manipulate the Amazon "abuse reporting" system to flag all negative comments. When OW encouraged readers to respond in kind they stepped up their campaign.

NOTE: It appears that my "RobertCox" account at KO.org has been deleted and every post I ever made on that site has been deleted as well. Apparently the trollgirls from KO.org did not like having their anonymous troll comments deleted over here.

Anyway, have a nice "George W. Bush" Day!

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 15, 2008

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • 2008 ELECTION: Dana Milbank, Washington Post national political reporter and MSNBC political analyst; Pat Buchanan, MSNBC Political Analyst and author of "Day of Reckoning: How Hubris, Ideology and Greed are Tearing America Apart"; Chuck Todd, NBC News political director; Rachel Maddow, Err American radio host and MSNBC political analyst
    • "AMERICAN IDOL": Maria Milito, Q104.3 radio host

The last opening spiel of the week was bellowed by Keith Olbermann: Clinton v Obama! The McCain Mutiny! "Mister" Bush lies! [Ding!] Oh, and the long overdue American Idol segment! It's casual Friday at Olbermann Watch.

    Bathtub Boy

#5: After Bill Jefferson Clinton criticized Keith Oralmann, Fat Ass struck back, calling him a "Bill in a china shop". Reference to Senator "O-buy-ma"! Hill runs an attack ad on Barack. Monkeymann moaned about his "deep personal affection" for Hillary and B.J. (watch out, remember how he treated his "personal friend" John Gibson!), but they sound "angry". Olby pimped out Milbank, minus musty mufti, to parrot his spin, only he contradicted a snickering Keith re a McCain criticism. Still he got Great Thanksed.

Another dig at the Clintons ("contradictory statements") to kick off yet another discussion of super delegates. Merkle knocked the Clinton campaign again for calling 20-some states "insignificant". Then another elbow at the "tone deaf" B.J. Clinton and his "undemocratic" statements! Man, don't you dare criticize Edward R Olbermann, or he will come down on you like a ton o' bricks. Todd nattered but was not Great Thanksed.

#4: In discussing the GOP race "Man on Fan" Olbermann found a way to blame UBL's 9/11 attack on "Mister" Bush '41. Paleo Buchanan was there to assess 41's endorsement of McCain (an interesting choice since Buchanan was a mortal enemy of 41 and even ran against him--not disclosed to the gullible cretins who dote on The Hour of Spin). He was not Great Thanksed.

After comparing "Mister" Bush to Genghis Khan, Herr Olbermahn served up #3: More FISA propaganda. Bush lied! [Ding!] Bush lied! [Ding!] Lied! [Ding!] Collaborators! (Nazi imagery.) Oralmann needed someone who would also serve as a human Xerox machine for OlbySpin, so he pimped out national security and legal expert comedian Rachel Maddow, who declared of "national security threats": they "do not exist". Only on The Hour of Spin.

    OLBY

#2: Empty. #1: Idol. In the Media Matters Minute, Herr Olbermahn returned to feed his most ravenous Olbsession: the eeevil O'Reilly (Blue Blog Source: Hillary Clinton's Media Matters, straight from Brock's website to Oralmann's teleprompter), making this attack #415. And anyone else who dares to speak criticism of Messiah Obama shall be given the same treatment on OlbyPlanet.

    Keith Limpermann

    MisterMeter

If it's Friday, it's our weekly assessment of Krazy Keith's masculinity. Even though this was only a four day week, Monkeymann attacked Fox and other broadcasters 15 times. Olby's source (Hillary Clinton's Media Matters) criticized (MS)NBC 12 times, but Keithy protected his corporate masters with just one, glancing, parenthetical criticism. That makes this week's Olbermann Manhood Quotient: -48 [Cruise limp]. Tonight's MisterMeter reading: 11 [DANGER!]

And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 650th day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will be indicted".

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 14th, 2008
    DrudgeSiren.gif

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • 2008 ELECTION: Howard Fineman, Newsweek senior Washington correspondent and MSNBC political analyst; Rachel Maddow, Air America radio host and MSNBC political analyst; Dana Milbank, Washington Post national political reporter and MSNBC political analyst
    • REAL LIFE STAR WARS: Derrick Pitts, Franklin Institute Science Museum chief astronomer
    • ONE-ON-ONE WITH RICHARD LEWIS: Richard Lewis, comedian and author of "The Other Great Depression"
    • SPESHUL REEDUKATION KOMMENT: BUSH IS A FASCIST

Apparently, even Valentine's Day and all its deserved disdain was not devoid of a Keith Speshul Komment. I guess he was fresh out of Merlot for Ms. Tur. Thus, relegated to a night of preaching to Kos Kiddies, he served up the usual fodder. Keith has seemingly jumped ship to the Obama campaign, though he was happy to tout numbers suggesting Mrs. Clinton was ahead in PA and OH. The new Clinton catchword: solutions! Hawk it, Olby! Supposed McCain flip-flop on waterboarding (no more St. Rudy to beat on). Democrats "call the President's bluff." Apparently, the President is "terrorizing" the people of the United States especially since he might postpone his trip to Africa. Gasp! Fear mongering I detect! Horrors! Keith "no longer fears" the President. He should worry that his ratings will collapse when he can only scream about how the Democrats are not far left enough if the Democrats run Capitol Hill.

    You Had Me At Merlot

#5: Demonstrating some loyalty, Herr Olbermann touts Mrs. Clinton's slim win in New Mexico. But he doesn't neglect to remind us of her financial woes. Shockingly, "solutions" is also the keyword of Mr. Bill Clinton on the stump. Olby touts Mrs. Clinton's leads in Ohio and Pennsylvania, while quickly noting those leads have diminished. Keith, ever absorbed with himself and attempting to pretend he has no "horse in this race" has the "Keith Number" which is the number of undecideds. Free air time to Sen. Obama's campaign ad. Howie Fineman came in to shore up the idea that the "solutions" catchphrase is just that. Nothing terribly relevant or exciting here. Regurgitating Mrs. Clinton's former slogans. More beating on her and her campaign woes. I guess Der Fuhrer goes with the presumptive (D) Nominee. Howie doesn't seem to have any love for Hillary. MSNBC has surely been hating on that campaign that "pimps" out people. Great thanks.

Keith nearly wets himself telling the story that "Weak Linc" Chafee (R-supposedly-RI) former Senator is supporting Sen. Obama. Bring in Milby without any extravagant apparel. Cue weird jokes about "experimenting" and other pseudo homosexual remarks about a former Bush campaign manager who might resign from the McCain campaign because of some connection with Obama. Fat Ass tries to play best friend to both sides by giving each (D) candidate a bone. NEXT.

#4: Apparently, the "Straight Talk Express" no longer lives up to Fat Ass' standards. Sen. McCain now "endorses torture" because he voted against a resolution banning waterboarding despite the fact the Senator stated that his vote was based on the fact that the amendment in and of itself was unnecessary because the law already prohibited waterboarding. Irrelevant on Olbyplanet, whatever DailyKos says (Daily Kos's very own Keith Olbermann, mind you) must be true. Sen. McCain clearly endorses "torture." Mind you, three people at max have been waterboarded. St. Rudy is clearly no longer the priority for Jabba and his lackeys. Welcome MSNBC "political analyst" from far left Err America Radio who is very analytical as long as it's about the "Republican smear machine" or other such unbiased comments. Keith would prefer "Mister" Bush to say that he's resigning. Ms. Maddow's "analysis" is clearly unbiased and definitely not slanted towards Democrats. McCain supposedly flip flops a lot. Great thanks.

#3: Usual whining about the declared "illegality" by Keith "Chicken and Waffles" Olbermann of "eavesdropping" and violation of my "civil liberties." Republicans engage in "cheesy political theater" unlike the Democrats who cared more about dopey "contempt of congress" bills rather than the important FISA bill. Speshul Komment time. Recap at the bottom.

#2: In the Media Matters minute, the usual suspects for Olbersturmfuhrer and his lackeys. "Coultergeist" for referring to Barack Obama as "President Hussein" through the usual smear channel at Media Matters. Media Matters was in full force tonight, as Lauren Ingraham got the silver award. Two conservatives, shocking! Tom Sullivan, of "Fixed News Radio" [Ding!] in a Media Matters trifecta. Conservatives and Fox, what else would there be?

#1: Richard Lewis. Whatever. More lefty whining that matters not.

    NAME

Tonight's MisterMeter reading: 8 [HIGH] This, the 649th day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will be indicted."

    OLBY

APPENDIX: Keith's Latest Speshul Education Komment

A part of what I will say, was said here on Jan. 31. Unfortunately it is both sadder and truer now than it was then.

“Who’s to blame?” Mr. Bush also said this afternoon, “Look, these folks in Congress passed a good bill late last summer.... The problem is, they let the bill expire. My attitude is: If the bill was good enough then, why not pass the bill again?”

Like the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. Or Executive Order 90-66. Or The Alien and Sedition Acts. Or slavery.

Mr. Bush, you say that our ability to track terrorist threats will be weakened and our citizens will be in greater danger. Yet you have weakened that ability!

You have subjected us, your citizens, to that greater danger! This, Mr. Bush, is simple enough for even you to understand.

For the moment, at least, thanks to some true patriots in the House, and your own stubbornness, you have tabled telecom immunity, and the FISA act.

You. By your own terms and your definitions, you have just sided with the terrorists. You’ve got to have this law, or we’re all going to die. But, practically speaking, you vetoed this law.

It is bad enough, sir, that you were demanding an ex post facto law that could still clear the AT&Ts and the Verizons from responsibility for their systematic, aggressive and blatant collaboration with your illegal and unjustified spying on Americans under this flimsy guise of looking for any terrorists who are stupid enough to make a collect call or send a mass e-mail.

But when you demanded it again during the State of the Union address, you wouldn’t even confirm that they actually did anything for which they deserved to be cleared.

“The Congress must pass liability protection for companies believed to have assisted in the efforts to defend America.”

Believed? Don’t you know? Don’t you even have the guts Dick Cheney showed in admitting they did collaborate with you? Does this endless presidency of loopholes and fine print extend even here? If you believe in the seamless mutuality of government and big business, come out and say it! There is a dictionary definition, one word that describes that toxic blend.

You’re a fascist — get them to print you a T-shirt with fascist on it! What else is this but fascism? Did you see Mark Klein on this newscast last November?

Mark Klein was the AT&T whistleblower who explained in the placid, dull terms of your local neighborhood IT desk how he personally attached all AT&T circuits, everything, carrying every one of your phone calls, every one of your e-mails, every bit of your Web browsing into a secure room, room No. 641-A at the Folsom Street facility in San Francisco, where it was all copied so the government could look at it.

Not some of it, not just the international part of it, certainly not just the stuff some spy, a spy both patriotic and telepathic, might be able to divine had been sent or spoken by or to a terrorist.

Everything! Every time you looked at a naked picture. Every time you bid on eBay. Every time you phoned in a donation to a Democrat. “My thought was,” Mr. Klein told us last November, “George Orwell’s ‘1984.’ And here I am, forced to connect the Big Brother machine.”

And if there’s one thing we know about Big Brother, Mr. Bush, it is that he is — you are — a liar.

“This Saturday at midnight,” you said Thursday, “legislation authorizing intelligence professionals to quickly and effectively monitor terrorist communications will expire. If Congress does not act by that time, our ability to find out who the terrorists are talking to, what they are saying and what they are planning will be compromised.” You said that “the lives of countless Americans depend” on your getting your way.

This is crap. And you sling it with an audacity and a speed unrivaled by even the greatest political felons of our history.

Richard Clarke — you might remember him, sir: He was one of the counterterror pros you inherited from President Clinton, before you ran the professionals out of government in favor of your unreality-based reality — Richard Clarke wrote in the Philadelphia Inquirer:

“Let me be clear: Our ability to track and monitor terrorists overseas would not cease should the Protect America Act expire.

“If this were true, the president would not threaten to terminate any temporary extension with his veto pen. All surveillance currently occurring would continue even after legislative provisions lapsed because authorizations issued under the act are in effect up to a full year.”

You are a liar, Mr. Bush. And after showing some skill at it, you have ceased to even be a very good liar.

And your minions like John Boehner, your Republican congressional crash dummies who just happen to decide to walk out of Congress when a podium-full of microphones await them, they should just keep walking, out of Congress and, if possible, out of the country.

For they and you, sir, have no place in a government of the people, by the people, for the people.

The lot of you are the symbolic descendants of the despotic middle managers of some banana republic to whom “freedom” is an ironic brand name, a word you reach for when you want to get away with its opposite.

Thus, Mr. Bush, your panoramic invasion of privacy is dressed up as “protecting America.”

Thus, Mr. Bush, your indiscriminate domestic spying becomes the focused monitoring only of “terrorist communications.”

Thus, Mr. Bush, what you and the telecom giants have done isn’t unlawful; it’s just the kind of perfectly legal, passionately patriotic thing for which you happen to need immunity!

Richard Clarke is on the money, as usual.

That the president was willing to veto this eavesdropping means there is no threat to the legitimate counterterror efforts under way.

As Sen. Edward Kennedy reminded us in December: “The president has said that American lives will be sacrificed if Congress does not change FISA."

“But he has also said that he will veto any FISA bill that does not grant retroactive immunity.

“No immunity, no FISA bill. So if we take the president at his word, he’s willing to let Americans die to protect the phone companies.”

And that literally cannot be. Even Mr. Bush could not overtly take a step that actually aids the terrorists. I am not talking about ethics here. I am talking about blame. If the president seems to be throwing the baby out with the bath water, it means we can safely conclude there is no baby.

Because if there were, sir, now that you have vetoed an extension of this eavesdropping, if some terrorist attack were to follow, you would not merely be guilty of siding with the terrorists. You would not merely be guilty of prioritizing the telecoms over the people. You would not merely be guilty of stupidity. You would not merely be guilty of treason, sir.

You would be personally, and eternally, responsible.

And if there is one thing we know about you, Mr. Bush, one thing that you have proved time and time again — it is that you are never responsible.

As recently ago as 2006, we spoke words like these with trepidation.

The idea that even the most cynical and untrustworthy of politicians in our history, George W. Bush, would use the literal form of terrorism against his own people was dangerous territory. It seemed to tempt fate, to heighten fear.

We will not fear any longer. We will not fear the international terrorists, and we will thwart them. We will not fear the recognition of the manipulation of our yearning for safety, and we will call it what it is: terrorism. We will not fear identifying the vulgar hypocrites in our government, and we will name them. And we will not fear George W. Bush. Nor will we fear because George W. Bush wants us to fear.

NBC News Apologizes (again) as Jane Fonda Causes Uproar oN Today

It was Meredith Viera's turn at the NBC News Apology Podium this morning when Jane Fonda dropped a C-Bomb during an interview:

The actress used the four-letter c-word for a woman's anatomy on the show Thursday while talking about the play "The Vagina Monologues." Fonda, 70, is appearing in a 10th-anniversary performance.

As we roll into our fourth year at Olbermann Watch it's hard to believe it was that long ago when we first began calling attention to Olbermann's descent into madness. The post is not only brilliantly written but provides a fascinating time-capsule: It's election time 2004 and Keith is just beginning to align himself with the far-left, tinfoil hat crowd, he's lifting stories from the blue blogs, John Gibson is ripping KO for fanning the flames of terrorism,a blogger points out Keith's new fondness for attacks on Bill O'Reilly, and a young Johnny Dollar is still just a gleam in OlbyWatch's eye.

No Jail Time for Olberstalker; Anthrax Hoaxer Gets Five Years on Funny Farm

    **World Exclusive**
    **Must Credit OLBERMANN WATCH**

Chad Conrad Castagana sentenced for anthrax hoax on celebrities and politicians

    KO%20-%20Castagana%20Threat%20Letter.jpg

(Los Angeles, CA) - A man convicted of mailing threatening letters laced with white powder to Keith Olbermann, Jon Stewart, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and other high-profile figures, was sentenced Friday to five years probation and remanded to the Gateways Community Corrections Center in Los Angeles, CA where he will receive psychiatric treatment and medication until such time as doctors believe he is longer a threat not to exceed the length of his probation. Chad Conrad Castagana, 40, was arrested in November 2006 and charged with conveying false information and sending threats by the U.S. mail. He was convicted last year and has been ordered not to have contact with the six individuals he targeted.

Last month, U.S. District Court Judge Florence-Marie Cooper ordered that prior to sentencing Castagana be examined by Dr. Saul Faerstein, a Beverly Hills psychiatrist in order to provide the court with a diagnosis of Castagana as well as recommendations on treatment. Based on those recommendations, Castagana was remanded for custody to a yet-as-unidentified community corrections center.

Castagana, of Woodland Hills, CA, admitted to mailing 17 threatening letters including letters to Olbermann (4), Stewart (6), Pelosi (1) as well as Sen. Charles Schumer (1), Viacom Chairman Sumner Redstone (1) and David Letterman (1), according to court records. The letters contained a white power, which Castagana told the FBI was whatever household items he had available including baking soda, laundry detergent and AJAX.

According to the 14-count federal indictment handed down by the Grand Jury in October 2006, the first letter was sent on September 9, 2006 intended for Jon Stewart of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” but other court records show the letter, postmarked Santa Clarita, CA, was sent to another man with a New York address with the same name. A second letter was sent to Stewart on September 25, 2006. A letter was sent to Olbermann on September 26th. Another letter was sent to both Stewart, on September 27th, and to Olbermann, on September 29th. A fourth letter was sent to Stewart on October 13, 2006 and a fifth on October 23rd. A letter was sent to Sumner Redstone on October 25th. A sixth letter was sent to Stewart on October 30, 2006. On November 1st , 2006 a letter was sent to Nancy Pelosi. On November 1st, 2006 a third letter was sent to Olbermann. On November 2nd a letter was sent to Letterman. On November 3rd a letter was sent to Schumer. On November 9th a fourth letter was sent to Olbermann. It was this letter that FBI agents observed Castagana mailing. The other three letters were not mentioned in the indictment but other records indicate two may have been intercepted by postal workers when they began to leak powder. Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward is also mentioned in the search warrant for Castagana’s home in Woodland Hills.

One of the letters addressed to Olbermann read “There are too many demagogues in America. All of you are poisoning the well ! Time to give your kind a taste of your own medicine . . .” and inside the envelope was a white powder which when tested was not found to be hazardous. Letters to other recipients referenced Alan Berg, a Denver-based talk show host who was murdered in 1984, and photos of cadavers. Return addresses on the letters included names like Barry White, Jay Leno, and William Shatner.

Members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force in Los Angeles, made up of FBI agents and local police, arrested Castagana after observing him mailing what turned out to be a letter similar to the ones previously sent to Olbermann, Stewart and others. Investigators were given an initial description of Castagana by a postal worker who noticed him because he was sending mail using antique stamps. They later made a positive identification using a postal money order made out to "Friends of Katherine Harris", a then-candidate for U.S. Senate from the State of Florida. Harris, a former Congresswoman, played a key role in the 2000 presidential election when, as Secretary of State of Florida, she certified the Republican slate of electors thereby giving George W. Bush a narrow victory in the electoral college.

Castagana's letters were eerily familiar to NBC News personnel. In 2001, shortly after 9/11, the offices of NBC News, along with those of other media outlets and political offices were attacked with a weaponized form of anthrax. When the attacks ceased, 22 people contracted either inhalation or cutaneous anthrax and five died from their exposure to anthrax spores distributed via letter sent through the U.S. mail. Postal workers were also exposed and two of them were among the dead. The first anthrax letters were mailed to NBC and the New York Post. The National Enquirer, The Sun and the Senate offices of Tom Daschle (D-SD) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and other New York City news organizations were also targets.

    FULL VERSION OF CHARGING DOCUMENTS:

    Grand Jury Indictment
    Affadavit, FBI Agent
    Search Warrant for Castagana's residence

UPDATE: The Smoking Gun got the actual court order which has the name of the facility so I've update the post above. I was trying all day to get without success so they go the document first but I broke the story here.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 13, 2008

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • POTOMAC PRIMARIES: Richard Wolffe, Newsweek senior White House correspondent and MSNBC political analyst; Chuck Todd, NBC News political director
    • ROGER CLEMENS TESTIFIES ON CAPITOL HILL: Richard Justice, Houston Chronicle sports columnist

The day after the Potomac Primaries, the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann assiduously bellowed the opening spiel: Clinton's "bleak options"! McCain vs Huckabee! Bush "terrorizing" the nation! Congress folds! Clemens! And more! It's hump day at Olbermann Watch, when we learn when the word "lynch" is eeevil, and when it's perfectly acceptable (hint: evil = Republican saying it, acceptable = on the Hour of Spin).

    Bathtub Boy

#5: Hillary "grasping at straws". Barack's economic plan (clip). New Clinton ad (played for free in its entirety). Merkle compares Clinton's campaign to (gasp!) Rudy's. Keith pimped out The Wolffe Man, who simpered about Clinton's "message". He was Great Thanksed.

On to SuperDelegates. Bearded Chuck Todd nattered about Obama's lead and why, if "dynamics" don't change, it will be heard to catch her. He too was Great Thanksed.

#4: On to the GOP: John McCain is "uninspiring". Well, that's a step up from delusional liar. His Tuesday night speech was a "Red Skelton impression". Rim-Shot! (The Laughing Stagehand liked that one.) It was the return of Rule #1 as "Man on Fan" Olbermann described McCain's criticisms of Obama as "self destructive". Keith pimped out another leftist, E.J. Dionne, who bloviated and was Great Thanksed.

After a Rove! [Ding!] Rove! [Ding!] Rove! [Ding!] Rove! [Ding!] Rove! [Ding!] Rove! [Ding!] Rove! [Ding!] plus a Bush's Brain! [Ding!] came #3: Damn that Senate! They voted to protect the telecom companies, who are "collaborators". Yes, more Nazi imagery from Herr Olbermahn. Time for another episode of Olby & the Perfessor. How long before Jonathan alleges a federal crime? Start the TurleyClock... tick tick tick...[Ding!] 24 seconds. A New Record for the Perfessor! Those Dems, rolling over for the Republicans, and not doing what Oralmann wants. How dare they? Yep, the Perfessor was Great Thanksed.

#2: Nothing. #1: Steroidapalooza, complete with a "throw under the bus"! [Ding!] Not a word from that defender of the constitution, Edward R Olbermoronn, about just what gives Congress the right to put on these show trials in the first place.

In the Media Matters Minute, Fat Ass attacked the "delusional" Justice Scalia (Blue Blog Source: Talking Points Memo), and, yes, he attacked war hero John McCain (Blue Blog Source: Carpetbagger Report). If this was 1974, Keith Oralmann would be Jane Fonda. Oh he also went after Tom Davis (Blue Blog Source: Washington Independent), for describing the witness treatment of Roger Clemens as a "form of lynching". Horrors! Memories of nooses! KKK! Fat Ass was outraged. Somehow he showed none of that outrage when, on his own program, a guest described the possible lynching of an American Idol contestant. What's that? Did you say Olbypocrisy? We thought you did.

Olbermann Unfit to Anchor - Potomac Primary Open Thread

There is no Hour of Spin tonight, as all the news channels will be covering the Potomac Primaries. Whether you watch Wolf, that "monkey" Chris Wallace, or Fat Ass and the Drooler, use our valuable bandwidth to post your comments and reactions here.

To kick it off, this clip addresses a key controversy about the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann: why he is unfit to be anchoring tonight. Discuss and resolve...

Red Eye on "Pimping": Keith Olbermann Is a "Pretty Big Dork"

Keith Olbermann Attacks Olbermann Watch - Again!

Keith continues to struggle with the notion that a genuine grassroots web site like Olbermann Watch could exist without funding from [insert GOP villain here]. The latest delusional crack about OlbyWatch - that we're funded by Fox News - ran last night on Countdown.

Damn you, Roger Ailes! Pay up. Keith's on to you!

Maybe the check's in the mail but we've yet to see dime one from our "paymasters" (so feel free to take out a blog ad or click some links and go read about our wonderful advertisers).

Regular readers will know that Keith has developed a bit of a persecution complex about Olbermann Watch. He's been railing against us pretty much since we launched in 2004 - bitching about us to The Hartford Courant, to Howard Kurtz, to the New York Observer and various other places including, most recently, his new diary over at Daily Kos.

    Dear Diary,

Olbermann Watch was mean to me today. They called me the exact same names I've called other people on my show and that's not fair. Boo-friggin-hoo

    Goodnight Diary.

    Love,
    Bear

PS, it's late, I'm tired but sometime tomorrow I will add links to Keith's past anti-OW rants for all to enjoy.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 11, 2008

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • THE DEMOCRATIC RACE IN THE 2008 ELECTION: Richard Wolffe, Newsweek senior White House correspondent and MSNBC political analyst; Jonathan Alter, Newsweek senior editor and MSNBC political analyst
    • THE REPUBLICAN RACE IN THE 2008 ELECTION: Pat Buchanan, MSNBC political analyst and author of "Day of Reckoning"
    • IRAQ: Paul Rieckhoff, Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America executive director
    • AWARD SHOWS: Paul F. Tompkins, comedian and VH-1 contributor

It's a new week and that means that, back at the anchor desk on The Hour of Spin is none other than the Daily Kos's very own Keith Olbermann, who bellowed the opening spiel: Edwards might endorse! Obama leads McCain! Huckabee! Iraq is chaos! Rove! [Ding!] All this plus a special bonus OlbyClip and, did Keith Oralmann take a veiled slap at Olbermann Watch? We report, you decide.

    Bathtub Boy

#5: Clinton campaign changes. Obama has more delegates and is stronger in polls. Clip of Obama (a stump speech line he's been using for weeks, but Oralmann seemed to think it was something new and wonderful). Texas and Ohio are key. The Wolffe Man simpered and was Great Thanksed. Obamarama! Colin Powell considering Barack. Lefty Alter nattered and while he wasn't Great Thanksed, he was Pleasured. Tom Lantos died.

#4: Huckaboom! Olby was talking so fast at the top of this segment he sounded like a tape played at double speed. Surprise, Pat Buchanan showed up; he hasn't visited OlbyPlanet for many moons. KO was looking for ways Huck could hurt McCain but Buchanan didn't bite. Instead he went off about arrogant party leaders who got us into Iraq, and then it became clear why Pat was there after all. He wasn't Great Thanksed but he too was Pleasured.

After another Rove! [Ding!], a Fixed Noise! [Ding!], and an OlbyMiniRant about upcoming "convenient" "show trials" of 9/11 plotters (the trials were presented as another Bush "scandal") came #3: The surge is a bust. It's "stay on failure". The war is putting us at risk. We're vulnerable all over the world! Reickhoff, of the far-left IAVA, yammered that the military is falling apart. Oh my, was he Pleasured.

After Fixed News! [Ding!] and another Rove [Ding!] came #2: Paul McCartney, Heather Mills, Roy Scheider. #1: Paris Hilton, Grammies, etc. The Media Matters Minute got off to a big start with Fixed News! [Ding!], Roger Clemens, and Rove [Ding!] of Fox Noise! [Ding!] (Blue Blog Source: Buzz Flash). Oh, and another Fox Noise! [Ding!] The interesting comment here was Merkle's suggestion that the eeevil Fox is bankrolling an "anonymous smear blog" about him. A little touchy there, Monkeymann?

    OLBY

Dogs That Did Not Bark: Ah, Keith "Pimping" Olbermann, crusader against hate speech. You will recall how he slammed Michelle Morgan for the crime of using the phrase "we've got a bullseye" on Nancy Pelosi. (Of course when Olbermann's Brain used the bullseye phrase on MSNBC, Olby was silent.) And he's gone after Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, and most famously Michelle Malkin, blaming her for some guy who sent Fat Ass a tablespoon of Tide in the mail. But there's some hate speech that Monkeymann always seems to overlook. It flies under the OlbyRadar, so to speak. And so it is that someone wishing the death of Rush Limbaugh not only doesn't get a "worst person" nomination, it doesn't even get mentioned on The Hour of Spin. Such is the Wide World of Olbypocrisy.

    MisterMeter

Tonight's MisterMeter reading: 1 [LOW] And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 646th day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will be indicted".

That, Sir, is not only un-American -- it is dictatorial.

??David - how hard is it for someone, anyone, in the vast MS/NBC universe to contact any one of us at the campaign for comment about Chelsea before going on air and saying that she is being "pimped out" ? It's absurdly offensive. And what the hell does that even mean?

I just don't get MSNBC - does GE not allow you to make toll calls? What's the problem.

Nice to hear from you, philippe. ??It is a fact that chelsea has made calls to superdelegates, as your campaign colleagues have acknowledged. It is also a fact that the campaign has reacted quite harshly to any media who have sought to interview chelsea. That was the point. By slamming any reporter who seeks to chat with chelsea while simultaneously having chelsea do campaign tasks such as trying to convince super delegates to support her mom, that's the reference. ??Chelsea is polite and does a fine job of saying "I don't want to talk.". But for campaign staff to then jump down the throat of a reporter who seeks to talk to chelsea...that's an issue. ?

SHUSTER: "But doesn't it seem like she's being--but doesn't it seem as if Chelsea is sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way?" ??I have a hunch that such offensive and unacceptable language was never used on MSNBC's air about Karenna Gore, the Bush twins, Venessa & Alex Kerry, Kate Edwards, the Romney sons - or any other adult offspring who chose to campaign on behalf of a parent.

?David - I want to make sure I'm crystal clear here - you're saying that because she doesn't grant interviews and makes calls on behalf of her mother, you are right to say that she is being pimped out? ??I don't need to read a the whole transcript for context, you were way out of line. Nobody's jumping down your throat about asking for an interview or talking about calls she made. And you know it. ??There is simply no excuse for being so offensive.

By actually rationalizing your behavior rather than accepting responsibility and apologizing, you become the poster child for everything wrong with tv journalism, and it's a shame your NBC colleagues have to be associated with this shit. ???

??No. That's not what I'm saying. And if you bothered to look at the transcript and saw all of the glowing things I said about chelsea and the way she was raised, you would know that. ??The issue is not her making calls. As + said on the air, I have no problems with that what so ever. The issue is not her refusing interviews. The issue is that the campaign has come down hard on reporters who merely sought to ask chelsea questions. You can't have it both ways. Reporters have long respected the clintons desire that we avoid chelsea and let her have her space. But to get angry at reporters seeking to talk to her now is patently unfair. And you know that. ?

    1) You are not disputing that you said on air: "But doesn't it seem like she's being--but doesn't it seem as if Chelsea is sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way?"

??2) You have no intention of apologizing for the above.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 8, 2008

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • 2008 ELECTION: Howard Fineman, Newsweek senior Washington correspondent and MSNBC political analyst; Jonathan Alter, Newsweek senior editor and MSNBC political analyst; Rachel Maddow, Err America radio host and MSNBC political analyst
    • THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION: John Dean, fmr. Nixon White House counsel and author of "Broken Government"

UPDATE: SPECIAL APOLOGY VIDEO [OLBYWATCH REMIX] ADDED

The last opening spiel of the week: Dems battle on! Expectation lowering! Bush at CPAC! WaterboardingGate! An Oddball Extravanza. And a Special Apology! [Those pesky producers again, forcing him to cover something.] It's casual Friday at Olbermann Watch.

Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly book Culture Warrior

#5: The Great (election) Race. The Pundit for All Occasions (Imus supporter Fineman) chattered but was not Great Thanksed.

Clip of an unusually sedate Bill Jefferson Clinton. Hillary's cash flowing again, as is Obama's. Oralmann suggests Hill's poor-mouthing was a "ploy". KO was stunned that a candidate would loan money to the campaign: "Have we seen this before?" Lefty Alter nattered but was not Great Thanksed.

Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly book Culture Warrior

Then Herr Olbermahn turned to the "assiduous, excellent, keen" reportorial work of Slippery "Karl Rove will be indicted" Shuster, aka Robin. Bathman read the teleprompter script about the suspension and delivered one of his trademark Special Apologies: he and A-Mess-NBC were "dreadfully sorry", Uncle Albert. Grovel, grovel, was that good for you, Brock?

Fox Noise! [Ding!] #4: "Mister" Bush and his "historically low" approval ratings. No mention of the historically low approval ratings for Congress however. This is The Hour of Spin, after all. Comedian Rachel Maddow of Err America yammered about "warmonger" Bush and was Great Thanksed.

#3: WaterBoardingTapingBoardingNotInvestigatingWaterGate. Quote from Durbin (D). Quotes from (R): zero. Plus TeleComImmunityEavesdroppingGate. Time for another meeting of the Olbermann Criminal Rehabilitation Program with star subject: John Dean. Watergate! [Ding!] The felon bloviated about "war crimes" and a "grand conspiracy". Nixon! [Ding!] The disbarred lawyer opined that Cheney can be charged with "war crimes". Sure enough, he was Great Thanksed.

Fixed News! [Ding!] Fox Noise! [Ding!] #2: Steroids, K-Fed, Britney, Heath Ledger. #1: Oddballapalooza.

At various point tonight Oralmann repeatedly said that Fox "cancelled" its "best show". Another Olbermann Lie: the show in question was not cancelled--it's being revamped, not eliminated. But such fine distinctions are irrelevant on OlbyPlanet. (Olby's Blue Blog Source: TVNewser--Olby wouldn't dare credit the actual story source). The Media Matters Minute also brought us O'Reilly attack #414 (Blue Blog Source: Hillary Clinton's Media Matters), and Tom DeLay (Blue Blog Source: Conservation Value--note how Fat Ass converts the story from criticism of Chris Matthews to an attack on Delay).

    Keith Limpermann

    MisterMeter

If it's Friday, it's our weekly assessment of Krazy Keith's masculinity. Even though this was only a four day week, Monkeymann attacked Fox and other broadcasters 30 times. Olby's source (Hillary Clinton's Media Matters) criticized (MS)NBC 18 times, but Keithy protected his corporate masters with zero criticisms. That makes this week's Olbermann Manhood Quotient: -96 [pantywaist limp]. Tonight's MisterMeter reading: 4 [GUARDED]

And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 643rd day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will be indicted".

Clinton Campaign Boycotting MSNBC; Shuster Suspended Over "Pimped Out" Chelsea Remarks

OlbermannWatch YouTube Channel video of David Shuster making his "Pimped Out" comment, Shuster apologizing on Morning Joe, Clinton campaign conference call (audio), Shuster apologizing in a taped statement on Tucker.

NBC President Steve Capus has issued the following statement.

NBC NEWS STATEMENT REGARDING CHELSEA CLINTON COMMENT:

On Thursday's "Tucker" on MSNBC, David Shuster, who was serving as guest-host of the program, made a comment about Chelsea Clinton and the Clinton campaign that was irresponsible and inappropriate. Shuster, who apologized this morning on MSNBC and will again this evening, has been suspended from appearing on all NBC News broadcasts, other than to make his apology. He has also extended an apology to the Clinton family. NBC News takes these matters seriously, and offers our sincere regrets to the Clintons for the remarks.

The Clintons are apparently not satisfied.

    Associated Press

A distasteful comment about Chelsea Clinton by an MSNBC anchor Thursday could imperil Hillary Rodham Clinton's participation in future presidential debates on the network, a Clinton spokesman said.

In a conference call with reporters, Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson Friday excoriated MSNBC's David Shuster for suggesting the Clinton campaign had "pimped out" 27-year old Chelsea by having her place phone calls to Democratic Party superdelegates on her mother's behalf. Wolfson called the comment "beneath contempt" and disgusting.

Guacamole Grief Grows: Hispanic Groups Condemn Olbermann Slur

The growing outrage over Keith Oralmann's ethnic insensitivity toward Hispanics has led groups such as La Raza and LULAC to publicly protest Bathtub Boy's callous remarks. Details in this clip, which is far more fair and balanced than anything presented on Monkeymann's Hour of Spin:

League of United Latin American Citizens: "not necessary and could be perceived as being insensitive to Hispanic viewers".

La Raza: "an unfortunate use of words, and offensive to Hispanics".

"Regarding the Olbermann-Guacamole situation, the National Council of La Raza has reviewed the information and decided not to respond in the context of the current Wave of Hope campaign against hate speech. While it is certainly an unfortunate use of words, and offensive to Hispanics, NCLR wants to stay focused on the hate speech being used in the immigration debate."

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 7th, 2008

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • MITT ROMNEY DROPS OUT OF THE 2008 ELECTION: Dana Milbank, Washington Post national political reporter and MSNBC political analyst; Pat Buchanan, author of "Day of Reckoning: How Hubris, Ideology, and Greed Are Tearing America Apart" and MSNBC political analyst
    • 2008 ELECTION: Eugene Robinson, Washington Post associate; Chuck Todd, NBC News political director ROGER CLEMENS ON CAPITOL HILL: Howard Bryant, ESPN reporter and author of "Juicing the Game"

The Republican nomination; Mitt Romney quits! John McCain's to lose. Quick booing and forced applause. Long clip of booing. Mitt drops out to reduce the chances of an "evil Democratic President." Mind you, he never said that. "Willard" played the terror card on the way out. Mitt says he hates to lose, Keith chimes in, "Well, get used to it." Zinger. The Democrats, not enough delegates to nominate someone. Keith praises Dems fund raising. Lou Dobbs attack for "criticizing" the Anti-Defamation League, you know, the same on that criticized Olby? Dobbs should ask for a pro-defamation league. Clemens.

    MADMAN

#5: The SS Romney sinks. "Quit" Romney! Listen to the booing at CPAC. Oralmann quotes a CPAC person who wants to be better than Democrats and prevent booing of Sen. McCain. Obviously, that did not work. Clip of booing CPAC attendees which strikingly includes a fair amount of applause. Huckabee made his way to the Tyra Banks show hoping for Mitt's supporters to support him. Enter Dana Milbank sans adorned accoutrements. According to Der Fuhrer, the best thing Mitt could come up with was the (with funny voice) "Vote Democratic or you die" slogan. Was that his (Romney's) application into the 2012 club? You have to hit a paraplegic on the way out? Slander half the population too according to Olby. It was all a hobby, according to Milbank. Ann Romney was upset with the $60 million he was spending on that hobby. Serious reporting. Milbank coughed up a few more non-zingers zingers (hand of god touching Huckabee and the sort) before being Great Thanksed.

The "self-described" conservatives on radio don't like McCain. Monkeymann's lackeys managed to bring in the one "conservative" that usually dislikes all other conservatives. Buchanan praises McCain for the most part. Buchanan says that Romney did the smart thing in dropping out and wants a "major convention speech" like Reagan in 1976. Shockingly, I can hear Herr Olbermann murmuring "Oh jesus.." as Buchanan speaks. Guess what this got him? Thanks. No Great Thanks. Stunning.

#4: Democrat love fest time. The "Great Race." Discussion of the Obama delegate prediction spreadsheet. Clinton in "classic underdog mode" asking for weekly debates. Keith mentions he'd do another debate. More softballs waiting in the wings? The ever bemused Eugene Robinson comes in to have fun with mathematics. Keith mentions he'd be happy to do another debate. Hillary does better in debates. Thank you.

    Hauptmann declares "Mister" Cheney crazy.

#3: John McCain might be a "stiff." Fat Ass is clearly worried that the split decision of the delegates damaging the prospects of Democrats in 2008. Chuck Todd chimes in on do-overs in Michigan and Florida. What could Howard Dean do?

    #2: Keeping Tabs

#1: Clemens and 'roids. The only subject that Keith kind of knows anything about. He collects baseball cards. Did you know that?

In the Hillary Clinton's Media Matters minute, Republican (naturally) Con. Lamar Smith of Florida via ThinkProgress for claims about public support of waterboarding. He knows this because he watched 24, asserts Olbersturmfuhrer. Republican + Fox = winner! Silver: Fox Noise [Ding!] identifies John McCain as a Democrat by mistake. Fixed News [Ding!] twice Fixed News [Ding!] thrice Fixed News [Ding!]. It's a conspiracy, they did it to Arlen Specter and Mark Foley! Lou Dobbs gets the gold for calling the ADL a joke (he actually called a specific woman a joke after he clarified who at the ADL is a joke - left out on Olby Planet and Media Matters). Duh.

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • SUPER TUESDAY ANALYSIS: Dana Milbank, Washington Post national political reporter and MSNBC political analyst; Jonathan Alter, Newsweek senior editor and MSNBC political analyst
    • 2008 ELECTION: Chuck Todd, NBC News political director; EJ Dionne, Washington Post columnist and Brookings Institution senior fellow

Yeah, yeah, Keith "Man on Fan" Olbermann bellowed the opening spiel: Super Tuesday was "a tie". McCain McMutiny! Water Carriers! [Ding!] Tornados! O'Reilly attack #413! It's hump day at Olbermann Watch.

Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly book Culture Warrior

#5: Clinton low on money. Obama raking it in. Hillary sticks to her "talking points". Dana Milbank, absent annoying accutrements, blathered and was Great Thanksed. Seemingly endless recitation of Clinton/Obama exit poll breakdowns. Obama appeals to white men. Insipid question about what if Super Tuesday was on Friday and another Olby wet dream over the "ideal ticket". Lefty Alter parroted but was not Great Thanksed.

After another "comedian Rush Limbaugh" (how tiresome is this? OK, it's being assigned to the bell) came #4: Delegate counting. All about the Dems, of course. Todd babbled.

#3: Right wing fringe! [Ding!] Comedian! [Ding!] Far right! [Ding!] Attacks on McCain may be part of a double-secret off-the-record trick to make Republicans like McCain! GOP hater Dionne echoed and was Great Thanksed. #2: Heath Ledger (regurgitated video), Britney. #1: Tornadoes (more tape).

    MisterMeter

In the Media Matters Minute, Oralmann attacked O'Reilly over homeless veterans, again?!? Isn't this a rerun from last week? Even so, it's still attack #413. Also Mary Matalin (Blue Blog Source: Think Progress), with Olby just by chance mentioning that Romney's grandparents were "polygamous Mormons". On the other hand, Fat Ass was careful not to mention the MSNBC show where Matalin spake her sinful comment. All the better not to have to report what the MSNBCers said in reaction to it. (We all know what Oralmann thinks about people who do not immediately criticize outrageous comments--unless it's Hillary of course.) Worst was Tony Fratto (Blue Blog Source: HuffPo). Tonight's MisterMeter reading: 1 [LOW]

Keith Olbermann has insulted Holocaust survivors, Jews, women, African-Americans... Last night this beacon of "tolerance" did it again. His latest slur: another insulting stereotype, this time directed at Hispanics. Don't hold your breath waiting for Think Propaganda or Hillary Clinton's Media Matters to call him on it either:

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 4, 2008

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • SUPER TUESDAY: Richard Wolffe, Newsweek senior White House correspondent and MSNBC political analyst; Jonathan Alter, Newsweek senior editor and MSNBC political analyst
    • DELEGATE VOTES: David Shuster, MSNBC correspondent
    • SUPERBOWL MEETS SUPER TUESDAY: Dana Milbank, Washington Post national political reporter and MSNBC political analyst

The infamous, deplorable one bellowed the first opening spiel of the week: Super Tuesday Obama vs Hillary: close! Republicans are lemmings! McCain might lose his temper! Keith brags how he predicted the Super Bowl! It's blue Monday at Olbermann Watch, where we again catch Olby in a big, honking example of hypocrisy and utter bias. It's a dog we knew wouldn't bark, and we were right.

Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly book Culture Warrior

#5: As always, Dems get covered first. Obama/Clinton tied. The discredited baseball card collector nattered about endorsements, and The Wolffe Man simpered. But there was no Great Thanks. Endorsements by DeNiro, Stevie Wonder and Maria Shriver. Long clip of her endorsing Obama. Lefty Alter yammered about the "tremendous positive feeling" for the Clintons. Still no great thanks.

Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly book Culture Warrior

After a "lunatic fringe" [Ding!] and another "lunatic fringe" [Ding!] came #4: how the delegates will be counted. The Widest Mouth in All Television spent the segment explaining how it works--for the Dems, of course. He got Great Thanksed, with Olby noting that tonight Slippery was "at Chicago". You mean he was watching a Broadway show?

After an oddball intro with about a half dozen flubs and gaffes and a Fox Noise [Ding!] came #3: "Man on Fan" Olbermann all discombobulated because those damn Repubs are not falling in line for McCain (Blue Blog Source: Salon). Robinson nattered but was not Great Thanksed. #2: nothing. #1: SuperBowl.

In the Media Matters Minute, Herr Olbermahn stuck to his favorite targets: Chris Wallace of Fixed News [Ding!] (Blue Blog Source: Hillary Clinton's Media Matters) for daring to ask her highness about Iraq. Just asking a question makes Wallace a "fraud" and a shill for Republicans, said the "journalist" who blogs for the Daily Kos. Plus Bill Bennett (Blue Blog Source: Huff 'n' Puff)--this was a typical OlbySmear. He attacked Bennett for having contributed money to McCain while defending McCain on the air--but completely omitted the fact that Bennett contributed to multiple candidates including Romney, not just McCain. Um, isn't that slightly relevant, Fat Ass? And "worst" Limbaugh (Blue Blog Source: Salon).

    OLBY

Dogs That Did Not Bark: After months in the tank for Hillary Clinton, Bear recently signed up (figuratively and literally) on the Kos Kavalcade, which means he switched his allegiance to Barack. But he has to watch his step, and keep one foot in the Clinton camp, just to play safe. The purpose of Daily Kos after all is to support and elect Democrats. So it is that we knew this latest dog would be silenced. Backstory: It wasn't that long ago that Edward R Olbermoronn was on his high horse about the "delusional" John McCain. Why? Because in a Q&A somebody referenced Hillary as "the bitch". McCain, for his part, was quick to reply that he respected Senator Clinton, but for Fat Ass that wasn't good enough, as he kicked off several nights of flogging the story by blasting McCain:

One of his supporters uses an offensive term to describe Hillary Clinton and McCain laughs... McCain laughs and calls it an excellent question... He is he trying to defend the indefensible after a voter in South Carolina called Hillary Clinton an extremely disrespectful epithet--an epithet that he through lack of censure appeared to support.... The senator first laughed and then riffed on the foul comment... He respects her but he didn't respect her enough to suggest to the idiot in the restaurant that the term is inappropriate in a public place?... It sounds as if the lessons of Macaca were not really learned.... I mean, if he just said afterwards, it was inappropriate to use that terminology in this context, wouldn't this have gone away?

    MisterMeter

And on and on. Whew! And that was just from Day One. Now flash forward to today and something startlingly similar: a Clinton supporter calling George Bush a "bastard". Yes, one of Hillary's supporters uses an offensive term to describe George Bush and Hillary smiles. She smiles, and says not one word for or against the comment, not even "I respect the Presidency". So "bastard" is an epithet that she through lack of censure appears to support. She respects the Presidency but not enough to suggest to the idiot that the term is inappropriate in a public place? It sounds as if the lessons of Macaca were not learned. Yada yada yada. Yeah, all of that is what Monkeymann did not say tonight. He spiked the story. Completely. Because it wasn't John McCain, Republican. It was Hillary Clinton, Democrat. And OlbySpin and the rules of the Daily Kos demand that Republicans be attacked and Democrats protected. It's another reason we call it The Hour of Spin, and why Keith Oralmann is a slovenly political hack. Tonight's MisterMeter reading: 1 [LOW]

And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 638th day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will be indicted".

    Giants Are Super

    Me at Super Bowl XLII

Wow! What a game. My voice is completely shot from shouting during the fourth quarter of last night's Super Bowl XLII. As regular readers will know, I am a passionate New York Giants football fan and was not only lucky enough to score tickets for the big game but get an assignment from Newsweek to cover the game. I took about 700 photos for Newseek during Super Bowl week (along with contributing dispatches from Arizona for Newsweek.com) which are available to view via flickr. As you will see I had plenty of opportunities to interview and photograph a host of interesting people ranging from Paris Hilton to Bart Starr, Eli Manning to Victoria's Secret models. Enjoy! Interestingly I am in Arizona until Wednesday and John McCain's "victory" party for Super Tuesday is within walking distance of where I am staying in Phoenix so I am stop by and check out the action.

[if folks want to discuss the game here fine but non-Super Bowl comments will be deleted]

Olbypocrisy: KO's Love/Hate Relationship with Nazism

    Bathtub Boy

Keith Olbermann is the "journalist" who has compared Fox News to Nazis, who said the Bush administration is an example of facism, and who likened its rise to that of The Third Reich. And how many other news anchors have been censured by the Anti-Defamation League (who are still waiting for their apology)?

This is the same Edward R Olbermann who slammed Condoleeze Rice for suggesting that Saddam might have been like Adolf Hitler. The same Keith Oralmann who sermonized that such comparisons must be stopped: "There's no place for the reference in this culture. Not about the Republican tactics, not about the Democratic tactics, not about Guantanamo Bay."

Keep those words in mind. Because in his latest Special Education Komment, Olby does it again. Yes, he compares the Bush administration to the Third Reich! A more stunning example of Olbypocrisy could not be imagined. This video explores Herr Olbermahn's love/hate relationship with Nazism:

A special Olbermann Watch hat-tip to youtuber ThePenIsMightier2007, whose excellent video on Keith's Nazi hypocrisy inspired our small effort.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 1, 2008

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • SUPER TUESDAY: Howard Fineman, Newsweek senior political correspondent and MSNBC political analyst; Richard Wolffe, Newsweek senior White House correspondent and MSNBC political analyst; Craig Crawford, cqpolitics.com columnist and MSNBC political analyst

We're liveblogging The Hour of Spin and the final opening spiel of the week: The Dem's love in "is over". Obama endorsement Obamarama! "Suspicion" about Republicans. It's casual Friday at Olbermann Watch.

Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly book Culture Warrior

[Heh. O'Reilly's playing clips of the vets who think O'Reilly said there are no homeless vets. None of them heard him say it! Big announcement re vets coming next Thursday from Mr Bill. We have an idea what it is and it will be fun to see how Oralmann can possibly spin this one. But back to the infamous, deplorable one...]

#5: Obama endorsements multiply. Alma Rangel and a big CA union, plus moveon.org. But John Edwards is coming alive and he could come in second. Oh wait, that was last week. The Pundit for All Occasions bloviated that Rangel is covering his bets. Olby used a big word: "magnamimity". Sorry, we meant to say he mangled a big word. No great thanks.

Clip of Hillary trying to explain away a vote against diplomacy before going to war in Iraq. Oops, Olbamamann fact-checked Hillary's excuse. Did he think this up on his own? Of course not! (Blue Blog Source: HuffPo). Fat Ass calls Hill's explanation "revisionist history". The Wolffe Man simpered. No great thanks.

After a plug for O'Reilly Attack #412 came #4: Obama + Clinton = Dream Ticket. Keithy was so excited over the possibility of a Unity ticket that he stained his pants. Olbermann's Brain sniggered. No great thanks.

After another plug for O'Reilly Attack #412 (where Olby lied about what O'Reilly said) came #3: Politics on the 9/11 Commission--yes, the same 9/11 Commission that Bear has been holding up as God-like and beyond criticism for years. The actual report was regurgitated video from NBC. Turns out the Dem co-chair of the Commission pooh-poohed all the "suggestions" and "suspicions". Oh wait, Countdown didn't bother to show the (D) after Lee Hamilton's name in that soundbite. Purely an oversight. Pete Williams was Great Thanksed.

Plug: "Comedian Rush Limbaugh leads a stampede of idiots" who misquoted Bill Clinton. We'll see about that.

#2: Britney, Super Bowl. #1: Celebrities at the debate.

In the Media Matters Minute, Rush Limbaugh was attacked for "deliberately taking a quote out of context" (Blue Blog Source: Talking Points Memo). Note from following the link that Oralmann deliberately lied: it wasn't Rush who took the quote out of context; it wasn't Rush who lead the parade. It was ABC News. But Fat Ass would rather smear Limbaugh so he just lied and claimed that Rush doctored the quote even though Olby knows damn well it was ABC's mistake. Worst was of course Mr Bill in attack #412 (Blue Blog Source: a near-verbatim lift from Hillary Clinton's Media Matters).

    Keith Limpermann

    MisterMeter

If it's Friday, it's our weekly assessment of Krazy Keith's masculinity. Even though this was only a four day week, Monkeymann attacked Fox and other broadcasters 29 times. Olby's source (Hillary Clinton's Media Matters) criticized (MS)NBC 20 times, but Keithy protected his corporate masters with zero criticisms. That makes this week's Olbermann Manhood Quotient: -98 [pansy limp]. Tonight's MisterMeter reading: 1 [LOW]

And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 635th day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will be indicted".

Olbermann's O'Reilly Venom Now Poisons Rest of NBC

O'Reilly Talking Point Memo Tonight Slams NBC President Steve Capus (preview)

Among the many lies Keith Olbermann spoon-fed Howard Kurtz last weekend on CNN perhaps the biggest whopper was KO's denial that MSNBC was moving to the left to become the progressive's answer to the Fox News Channel. Anyone who has watched Countdown or Keith's "fair and balanced" coverage of this campaign season's political debate knows this is precisely what MSNBC under lefty loon Dan Abrams is doing.

Now NBC has teamed up with noted far-left propagandist Robert Greenwald, a failed Hollywood director whose recent "documentary" entitled "Outfoxed" was a shameless piece of tripe that would have made Leni Reifenstahl proud, to attack Bill O'Reilly over the cable news king's recent comments about John Edwards.

In the last Democratic Presidential debate before the New Hampshire primary, Senator Edwards made the absurd claim that 200,000 veterans had been made homeless by the "failed" U.S. economy and were sleeping "under bridges" and "on grates".

What you see happening in America today, if you're president of the United States and you're looking at this from altitude is you see a very few Americans getting wealthier and wealthier, you see the biggest corporations in America's profits through the roof -- ExxonMobil just made $40 billion, record profits -- all of that happening at the same time that we have 47 million people with no health care, 37 million who will wake up in this country tomorrow worried about feeding and clothing their children. Tonight, 200,000 men and women who wore the uniform of the United States of America and served this country honorably will go to sleep under bridges and on grates.

Tonight, in his Talking Point Memo, Bill O'Reilly will call out Greenwald and NBC both of whom have taken Edwards claim and conspired to manufacturer political propaganda masquerading as news:

An attack on fox news fails dismally.

    [Robert Greenwald VO]

Take a good look at this man. He is Hollywood director Robert Greenwald ... a fanatical leftist who is obsessed with Fox News.

Greenwald directed the absurdly dishonest "Outfoxed" documentary.

A few days ago, Greenwald announced he would assemble some veterans to object to my telling John Edwards that the economy is not responsible for homeless vets. Addiction and mental illness is.

The reason Greenwald did this was to try to embarrass The Factor, and he has plenty of time on his hands to do that since it seems the man cannot get a job.

Why is that? ... perhaps because he presided over one of the biggest bombs in motion picture history ... the legendary "Xanadu" starring Olivia Newton-John --

    Xanadu 1
    Xanadu 2

Brilliant. Anyway, Greenwald called two corrupt entities in the press, the Rush & Molloy gossip column in the New York Daily News and NBC news, to try to get coverage of his vet exposition.

The problem was Greenwald couldn't get very many vets ... no more than six ... and we talked with them yesterday --

Now, I feel sorry for those guys, and we'll help them if we can, but I don't feel sorry for the corrupt press.

    Rush & Molloy

Rush & Molloy ... notoriously dishonest ... printed a hatchet job about the situation today, and even sent one of their minions to observe what happened --

    [Daily News clip]

And then there's NBC news ... what a tragedy.

    Steve Capus bio

This man, Steve Capus, runs that operation and has totally lost control of it. We called NBC and asked why they would send over a camera crew to cover an obviously propogandist situation. They told us Capus didn't know anything about it. Well maybe the man should wise up.

All in all, this is another example of Fox News Derangement Syndrome. NBC news hates us because we are costing them hundreds of millions of dollars. We are kicking their butt around the block.

The print press doesn't like us because many of them are far left loons. The beat goes on. It's usually tedious, but in this case ... mildly entertaining.
