"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)
Host: Keith Olbermann
Topics/Guests:
UPDATE: SPECIAL APOLOGY VIDEO [OLBYWATCH REMIX] ADDED
The last opening spiel of the week: Dems battle on! Expectation lowering! Bush at CPAC! WaterboardingGate! An Oddball Extravanza. And a Special Apology! [Those pesky producers again, forcing him to cover something.] It's casual Friday at Olbermann Watch.
#5: The Great (election) Race. The Pundit for All Occasions (Imus supporter Fineman) chattered but was not Great Thanksed.
Clip of an unusually sedate Bill Jefferson Clinton. Hillary's cash flowing again, as is Obama's. Oralmann suggests Hill's poor-mouthing was a "ploy". KO was stunned that a candidate would loan money to the campaign: "Have we seen this before?" Lefty Alter nattered but was not Great Thanksed.
Then Herr Olbermahn turned to the "assiduous, excellent, keen" reportorial work of Slippery "Karl Rove will be indicted" Shuster, aka Robin. Bathman read the teleprompter script about the suspension and delivered one of his trademark Special Apologies: he and A-Mess-NBC were "dreadfully sorry", Uncle Albert. Grovel, grovel, was that good for you, Brock?
Fox Noise! [Ding!] #4: "Mister" Bush and his "historically low" approval ratings. No mention of the historically low approval ratings for Congress however. This is The Hour of Spin, after all. Comedian Rachel Maddow of Err America yammered about "warmonger" Bush and was Great Thanksed.
#3: WaterBoardingTapingBoardingNotInvestigatingWaterGate. Quote from Durbin (D). Quotes from (R): zero. Plus TeleComImmunityEavesdroppingGate. Time for another meeting of the Olbermann Criminal Rehabilitation Program with star subject: John Dean. Watergate! [Ding!] The felon bloviated about "war crimes" and a "grand conspiracy". Nixon! [Ding!] The disbarred lawyer opined that Cheney can be charged with "war crimes". Sure enough, he was Great Thanksed.
Fixed News! [Ding!] Fox Noise! [Ding!] #2: Steroids, K-Fed, Britney, Heath Ledger. #1: Oddballapalooza.
At various point tonight Oralmann repeatedly said that Fox "cancelled" its "best show". Another Olbermann Lie: the show in question was not cancelled--it's being revamped, not eliminated. But such fine distinctions are irrelevant on OlbyPlanet. (Olby's Blue Blog Source: TVNewser--Olby wouldn't dare credit the actual story source). The Media Matters Minute also brought us O'Reilly attack #414 (Blue Blog Source: Hillary Clinton's Media Matters), and Tom DeLay (Blue Blog Source: Conservation Value--note how Fat Ass converts the story from criticism of Chris Matthews to an attack on Delay).

If it's Friday, it's our weekly assessment of Krazy Keith's masculinity. Even though this was only a four day week, Monkeymann attacked Fox and other broadcasters 30 times. Olby's source (Hillary Clinton's Media Matters) criticized (MS)NBC 18 times, but Keithy protected his corporate masters with zero criticisms. That makes this week's Olbermann Manhood Quotient: -96 [pantywaist limp]. Tonight's MisterMeter reading: 4 [GUARDED]
And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 643rd day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will be indicted".
UPDATE: Keith's Special Apology for David Shuster, OlbyWatch Edition:
This is priceless from Conversation Value:
"- Jon Gelbard
P.S. The level of ignorance displayed by Delay here suggests to me that people should really be required to pass some kind of basic exam before they are allowed to run for major public offices and make decisions that affect the well being of the entire world. Otherwise, you end up with people in power who absolutely lack the knowledge and competence to be formulating policies. We've certainly been learning this the hard way the past 8 years!"
Considering the recent papers from top notch scientists from top notch groups that we may be headed for a Maunder Minimum this goes beyond the pale.
In five or ten years we find ourselves in a Maunder minimum will Algore declare victory that he stopped AGW so well that now we have to try to reverse his astounding success.
Grammie
I surprised "Bathtub" boy didn't just call in sick so he could avoid the Shuster mess altogether...guess he can't play those games anymore.
But the real question is how many passes is KO going to get before he's forced to answer for his racist and sexist comments?
We certainly don't need Keith giving a head bobbing phony apology for David Shuster.
David can apologize for his owns words which he did, twice. Good enough for me, and lets just hope when David comes back he'll stick to the facts more.
His and others at MSNBC personal views and satire take on things is making the station look bad.
MSNBC will have to take a good portion of the blame on this one.
It seems as if they push their news commentators to make personal views on anything they wish.
From Chris Matthews attacking Hilary in a personal way to Keith attacking everybody he disagrees with.
This station is becoming a joke and I wouldn't be surprised if it's rating is 3rd behind CNN and Fox.
Keith Olbermann is the king of hypocrisy. Throwing his friend David Shuster under the bus for the same kind of sexism that Keith himself has been a part of.

Did Olbermann apologize for Shuster?
Posted by: at February 8, 2008 9:51 PM
Tim Graham got in a couple of jabs on Olbyonesidedkanoby on Hannity and Colmes. Colmes immediately jumped in to defend Olbermahn. Shocker.

My guess is that the days of Shuster sitting in as host for the commentary programs and giving his own views on topics are long, long gone.
Olbermann is then next. He's either going to be a commentator or a news anchor/reporter. Not both.
Only a matter of time.
And no, Mike, the multinational corporations spearheaded by Dr. Evil won't be the cause for the changes.

Since Keith's in a suddenly apologetic mood the main network correspondent on his show insulting the former First Daughter -- gotta make sure that shot at a Lincoln Bedroom invite in 2009 is still possible -- I wonder when Olby's going to apologize for his own attack on Jenna Bush on the December 5 "Countdown"?
Posted by: John at February 8, 2008 10:51 PM
Steve, as long as msdnc can dig up 300,000 far left viewers a night, he (olbyonesidedkanoby) will have a job. They are completely content with 4th out of 4 every night. Sad, but, true.
Posted by: royal king at February 8, 2008 10:55 PM
Have Roger Clemons' words ever killed anyone? What does Olbyonesidedkanoby have against him? Is Roger related to Cheney or Bush? That's a rhetorical question, for the desperate ones.
Secondly, why has Olbyonesidedkanoby NEVER shown a beheading video, yet, he seems to love to show the "fixed" waterboarding videos? Actually, I don't think he has ever even shown a picture of a terrorist, let alone what those savages do to our soldiers. The same soldiers that the far leftists claim to care so much about......

That video clip of Keith apologizing is quite stunning on many levels. It ought to be shown in journalism school as the penultimate example of how to grovel. It pairs nicely with Keith handing Bill Clinton a check before his first interview with Bill Clinton.
Here are a few questions...
First, why is KEITH apologizing for something someone else said on a different show?
Second, why would he say the revulsion over what Shuster said "transcend political parties and politics itself" when NBC News is a "news" organization that is supposedly objective and apolitical.
Third, why is KEITH apologizing "on behalf of MSNBC"? Why not just himself? Or his show? Keith now speaks for the entire network?
Fourth, why so overboard with the apology? He offers an "apology without limit" and "they" are "literally, dreadfully sorry". What are they dreading? That the Clintons will win the White House and cut off the network?
Now, if you go back to the earliest days of this site you will find posts in 2004 decrying the wormhole down which Keith was taking MSNBC. It saddens me to see a network news organization that I've always liked bring itself into such disrepute. Some folks might forget but it was about that time - 2004 - that industry analysts and media critics were writing about how GE was going to sell of MSNBC because it did not fit the Jack Welch mantra of being "first or second or out". In the past 4 years MSNBC has been "saved" but at what cost? Olbermann? Shuster? Imus?
Pretty pathetic.
"Did Olbermann apologize for Shuster?

No, It's Keith's way of saying. I Had Nothing To Do With This, 'Boss Hillary.'
So Slip got suspended. Ah, when he does get fired. AAR will probably give him a job.
You think that boy is unhinged now, wait till he gets to someplace he can really go nuts.
Wow. Keith’s apology for David Shuster. So did the network make him do it or did he feel the need to stress someone else’s failure? I go with the latter since Olbermann is a quick supervisor and censurer of others and seems to think every sin entered up to their account becomes a credit on his own side of the page.
Another question - when did Keith become the spokesman for MSNBC? Did Matthews give an apology? Will Abrams do one on Monday night?
I bet KO couldn’t wait to draw the attention from some of the crazy stuff he’s said. This week he excitedly named Lou Dobbs the worst person for calling the Anti-Defamation League a joke. Isn’t this the same organization that reprimanded KO in a letter, a letter to which he never responded? The best part of this is that the fan girl site that documented this info linked to Media Matters to prove what Lou Dobbs said, apparently using KO's source.
That apology made it worse.....
Olbermann stated he has respect for Shuster's work. Fine. What does that have to do with the comment he was suspended for?
Olbermann's respect is misplaced and illustrative of the problem at this faux news network.
It was a poor journalist defending another poor journalist......
NBC News has allowed the patients to run the asylum (sorry for the cliche) but it is obvious to me in watching MSNBC that the poor quality of professional reporters, anchors and pundits, and the mixture of roles there that makes objectivity IMPOSSIBLE, has finally resulted in an episode that is a marker.....
The only problem was that it was not Olbermann.
J$, great job in interposing Shuster's previous examples of ineptitude to counter Olbermann's poor and unobjective assessment.
Those who want to maintain their professional reputations should flee MSNBC ASAP...Like the left contends about Bush's competence.....the "emperors" of MSNBC (Olbermann and Abrams) have no clothes.....
And that crazy ending....Olbermann is a putz.
At NBC news the clowns are running the circus (more cliche, cee).
KO couldn't make Shuster the Worst Person for those comments but he had to say something or he would be accused of ignoring it. What to do? What to do?
Wonder if Olbermann had to go home and hide under his desk for awhile and then soak in the tub after that apology. The blogger at ICN is "hearing that the fallout from the David Shuster suspension is rocking 30 Rock." Check it out.
Is Olbermann immune to this tension? He's under pressure from the blue bloggers for supporting Shuster. He's under pressure from the other blue bloggers for throwing Shuster under the bus. He's under attack from the conservatives for not naming him WP. The newtwork wants him to stay edgy to keep ratings. Hillary might be mad at him. No where to run but the tub. I feel a meltdown coming.
Even the fan gurls at ERT are checking in:
*Shakes head sadly*
To steal an expression from Keith, he really threw David Shuster under the bus tonight. First he damned him with praise and then condemned him with an overuse of negative adjectives to describe the kiddie popular phrase “pimped”. With Keith I appreciate 95% of what he says, but the other 5% always leaving me shaking my head wondering what he was thinking.
Speaking of things that Keith does that annoy me (I’m on a roll tonight). Just the other day he belittle Bush for making a joke about Cheney shooting an 78 year old man. I thought that was weird at the time but okay. Then tonight Keith did that exact thing. Pick a position and stay with it, you know (I vote that it IS funny).
Shuster will no longer be seen
More airtime for felon John Dean
Keith's apology lame
Roll his "Hall of Shame"
More pathetic than Charlie Sheen
Shuster, aw shucks Olbergoebbels, just serve him up some guacamole and some chicken and waffles and everything will be alright...Watched the Bill Maher program last night and he was at an all time high as far as rascist comments. Wonder when he gets a slot at MSLSD...Maybe he can mail himself some fake anthrax too...From the above clip, the chief propagandist for Herr George Soros appeared less orange than usual. What's up? They running out of self tanner over there at MSLSD? That network is off the rails and will provide plenty of ammo for the Republicans during the general election. The "General Betray Us" crap is going to cost them this election. The left went off the rails awhile ago, and soon it will be time to pay the piper. Until then, I'm still waiting for Herr Olbergoebbels to say something criminally treasonous. You know it's coming. The orange asshole can't help himself. Heil Olbergoebbels!!!!Sieg Heil to Der Fuhrer, Herr Soros!!!! Instead of going after "blue" votes they are actually going after red, white, and black. Heil Soros!
Funny, the NEWSHOLE has not posted any comments since friday, 8:32 pm of Thursday's thread. Like Keith, they are hiding under their desks over the Shuster incident:
http://thenewshole.msnbc.msn.com/
Keith, you are becoming more like a spineless Democrat every day. You apologized to the Clinton family when you did nothing wrong. Would you believe this was my first thought only after I heard the introduction, knowing nothing about what you were even going to apologize for?
Now that I’ve watched the show, and I know why you apologized, I still don’t think you needed to do it. I can’t stand Shuster. He’s not “keen”, he’s an idiot, and I hope they keep him off the air for a while. If he had called Chelsea a “ho” I guess he would have been fired, right? But to insinuate that she merely allows herself to be “pimped out”, and that her parents are doing the pimping, that’s ok.
This is the second time you have apologized on behalf of someone else. The last time was Alison Stewart and her remarks about Senator Vitter’s wife. Now you’re apologizing for Shuster, and he didn’t even make the remarks on your show. I’ve got to ask, have you become NBC’s designated apologist now?
Shame on you, sir!
