Olbermann Watch, "persecuting" Keith since 2004

    February 11, 2008
Countdown with Keith Olbermann - February 11, 2008

"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)

    Host: Keith Olbermann

    Topics/Guests:

    • THE DEMOCRATIC RACE IN THE 2008 ELECTION: Richard Wolffe, Newsweek senior White House correspondent and MSNBC political analyst; Jonathan Alter, Newsweek senior editor and MSNBC political analyst
    • THE REPUBLICAN RACE IN THE 2008 ELECTION: Pat Buchanan, MSNBC political analyst and author of "Day of Reckoning"
    • IRAQ: Paul Rieckhoff, Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America executive director
    • AWARD SHOWS: Paul F. Tompkins, comedian and VH-1 contributor

It's a new week and that means that, back at the anchor desk on The Hour of Spin is none other than the Daily Kos's very own Keith Olbermann, who bellowed the opening spiel: Edwards might endorse! Obama leads McCain! Huckabee! Iraq is chaos! Rove! [Ding!] All this plus a special bonus OlbyClip and, did Keith Oralmann take a veiled slap at Olbermann Watch? We report, you decide.

    Bathtub Boy

#5: Clinton campaign changes. Obama has more delegates and is stronger in polls. Clip of Obama (a stump speech line he's been using for weeks, but Oralmann seemed to think it was something new and wonderful). Texas and Ohio are key. The Wolffe Man simpered and was Great Thanksed. Obamarama! Colin Powell considering Barack. Lefty Alter nattered and while he wasn't Great Thanksed, he was Pleasured. Tom Lantos died.

#4: Huckaboom! Olby was talking so fast at the top of this segment he sounded like a tape played at double speed. Surprise, Pat Buchanan showed up; he hasn't visited OlbyPlanet for many moons. KO was looking for ways Huck could hurt McCain but Buchanan didn't bite. Instead he went off about arrogant party leaders who got us into Iraq, and then it became clear why Pat was there after all. He wasn't Great Thanksed but he too was Pleasured.

After another Rove! [Ding!], a Fixed Noise! [Ding!], and an OlbyMiniRant about upcoming "convenient" "show trials" of 9/11 plotters (the trials were presented as another Bush "scandal") came #3: The surge is a bust. It's "stay on failure". The war is putting us at risk. We're vulnerable all over the world! Reickhoff, of the far-left IAVA, yammered that the military is falling apart. Oh my, was he Pleasured.

After Fixed News! [Ding!] and another Rove [Ding!] came #2: Paul McCartney, Heather Mills, Roy Scheider. #1: Paris Hilton, Grammies, etc. The Media Matters Minute got off to a big start with Fixed News! [Ding!], Roger Clemens, and Rove [Ding!] of Fox Noise! [Ding!] (Blue Blog Source: Buzz Flash). Oh, and another Fox Noise! [Ding!] The interesting comment here was Merkle's suggestion that the eeevil Fox is bankrolling an "anonymous smear blog" about him. A little touchy there, Monkeymann?

    OLBY

Dogs That Did Not Bark: Ah, Keith "Pimping" Olbermann, crusader against hate speech. You will recall how he slammed Michelle Morgan for the crime of using the phrase "we've got a bullseye" on Nancy Pelosi. (Of course when Olbermann's Brain used the bullseye phrase on MSNBC, Olby was silent.) And he's gone after Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, and most famously Michelle Malkin, blaming her for some guy who sent Fat Ass a tablespoon of Tide in the mail. But there's some hate speech that Monkeymann always seems to overlook. It flies under the OlbyRadar, so to speak. And so it is that someone wishing the death of Rush Limbaugh not only doesn't get a "worst person" nomination, it doesn't even get mentioned on The Hour of Spin. Such is the Wide World of Olbypocrisy.

    MisterMeter

Tonight's MisterMeter reading: 1 [LOW] And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 646th day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will be indicted".

    Hee Haw

HERE'S HOW THE LEFT SUPPORTS OUR TROOPS! OLBY INCLUDED

An Ohio mayor had a stern order for a company of Marine Corps Reservists: Get out.

The Toledo Blade reports that Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner ordered the Marines out Friday as their buses were arriving for a three-day training mission in the city, where they have periodically trained since 2004.

The 200 Marines, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., had planned to participate in urban patrol exercises in downtown streets and a vacant building, according to the Blade, which reports that past exercises have included mock gun fights, ambushes and the firing of blank ammunition to simulate urban combat.

Finkbeiner said that would be alarming.

MSNBC & Olberman are in a quandary.

If they fire Shuster, he can sue them using Olberman saying the same about President Bush and General Petreaus.

I noticed that Shuster has said "Enough is enough" about all this. Scooter Libby probably felt the same about him.

What's the matter Keith? No Bill-O tonight? ...or "comedian" Rush Limbaugh...or Sean Hannity? They slapped you and MSNBC around pretty good today and you have no response, sir? How about Fox & Friends calling you "bizarre?" Still no response, sir? Sir? When the big boys ignore you, you have plenty to say, but when they push back a little, the topic turns to Paris Hilton's movie. You, sir, are a hypocrite and a coward.

No, his whole show wasn't about Paris Hilton. He also showed the "individual bicycle twirl" and the "sledgehammer thingy" from the Rural Olympics in India. The point being, he didn't respond to valid criticism from his enemies, finished his show, and is undoubtedly soaking in the bathtub at this very moment.

Keith assiduously found you out Robert and Johnny$. You are funded by EEEVIL Fox News and EEEVIL Karl Rove!!!! Assiduously how much money does Roger Ailes give you to run this site assiduously? It is assiduously impossible for anyone to think that Keith Olbermann is such a jerk off political hack that they must create a site on their own to mock him assiduously. You must have had help from News Corp. How many billions of dollars did News Corp and the RNC give you to assiduously attack Keith Olbermann? We demand assiduously answers!!!

    Great assiduously Thanks

    P.S.

    Loved the Clip.

What a brilliant idea for the cover of Ol'Girlmann's book! Keith must have come up with that on his own. As you see at the left of this page, his book has "WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD" printed in big letters with Keith standing proudly right alongside. Realizing the fact that he doesn't have many viewers and would not be easily recognizable, he has his name printed in big letters right underneath the title. Now everyone knows the answer!

Perjury and obstruction of justice is the same as a rude comment about a candidate's daughter.

How ironic you would be defending bj clinton on another thread. Only here at OW!

Out of the mouth a babes comes pearls of wisdom. Who would have thought Opie and Anthony would do this?

    "Really? No talk of politics?"
Posted by: at February 12, 2008 12:54 AM

Maybe you should get someone to read these posts to you. You're obviously having a hard time grasping the point. HE DID NOT RESPOND TO THE HARSH CRITICISM LEVIED ON HIM BY HIS ENEMIES. And when I say enemies, I mean enemies. Remember Olbermann's quote? "Fox News is worse than Al Qaeda."

Six tied to 9/11 attacks to face death penalty and get a nice long nap....

    By PAULINE JELINEK
    Associated Press

    RESOURCES
Detainees charged with murder, war crimes WASHINGTON — The Pentagon has charged six detainees at Guantanamo Bay with murder and war crimes in connection with the Sept. 11 attacks, it was announced today. Officials said they'll seek the death penalty in what would be the first trials under the terrorism-era military tribunal system.

the topic turns to Paris Hilton's movie. You, sir, are a hypocrite and a coward.

    Posted by: Ol'Girlmann at February 12, 2008 12:15 AM

Give him some credit. At least he's sticking to what he knows......the latter is a given.

I figured out why Olbermann keeps using his tired old phrase "comedian" Rush Limbaugh. It's because Rush has a sense of humor and Olbermann only wishes he did. He needs the laughing stagehand to make everyone THINK he's funny. As you'll see by the following examples taken from his Paris Hilton segment, he's about as unfunny as they come.
"An opening weekend box office gross, and we do mean gross, of $25,000."
"I think they wrote it about an hour before they filmed it, that's my guess."
"Did it beat Ishtar, did it beat the documentary, "The Great Speeches of President Coolidge?""
(Acting high on marijuana) "Is it over yet? Where's the door? There had to have been a door, we came in."
This idiot is not even remotely funny, hence the need for the laughing stagehand. Pitiful.

I wish KO would make up his mind..on the one hand he claims that the threat of Terrorist is being made up by Bush and company and ain't real then he turns around and claims Bush and company are making us less safe and more a threat from Terrorist...which is it KO?

On the irony note..I saw Karl Rove on O'Reilly tonight while poor ol'Shuster is at home crying in his beer..if thats not poetic justice I don't know what is. LOL!!!!!!

With all this over acting by Keith I wonder what he is auditioning for?
Maybe for the next captain of the Star Ship Enterprise?

Is he tied to some electrical shocking device that goes off right before he delivers every 3rd word? Keeeeeeen

Even when he is apologizing he comes off has a bombastic, pompous, blowhard phony.
Not to many people can pull that off but Keith does it well.

If he was sure about himself just enough to let us see the real Keith, maybe we wouldn't laugh at him so much.

The Shaksperian tragedy here is not what Keith reports but how he reports it.

mlong, I have never heard a claim on Countdown that the threat of terrorism is being "made up".

KO obviously believes, as I do, that the terrorism threat has been blown out of proportion in relation to other serious issues that we are facing simmering just below the surface.

It is also obvious that he believes that the so called counterterrorism policies in which Bush has pursued, mainly the invasion of Iraq, has made us less safe. In other words, the wrong solution was worse than no solution at all. ..... I totally agree!

The bottom line is that, while you may disagree, there is no contradiction.

"Its because Rush has a sense of humor and Olbermann only wishes he did."

Is it the "whacko environmentalist method" of picking football game winners that you find funny?

The truth is neither one of these characters is anything close to being a comedian.

Wonder if KarmaBites1 has ever received an apology without limit, hearing how dreadfully sorry he is. Or any of the other women who may have been pimped out thru his emails?

As Dan Patrick once said, if Keith is around there is always drama.

    Pisses anonymous at 12:21:

"Was his whole show about Paris Hilton?
Are you just trying to be deceptive?
It seems that you are just trying to pull it out of your ass."

    END QUOTE

Did he say his whole show?

Um, look Olbyloon, you are defending the king of deception and the master of pulling things out of his ass.

You should know, I'm sure you've been hit right between the eye balls from things falling out of Olbytird's ass.

Posted by chciken crap anon at 12:23 who happens to be the same moron posting at 12:21:

"Perjury and obstruction of justice is the same as a rude comment about a candidate's daughter."

    END QUOTE

Do you apply the same standards to Bill Clinton dick lick?

    Craps Mike Lussy Lou:

"mlong, I have never heard a claim on Countdown that the threat of terrorism is being "made up".

    END QUOTE

Are you a moron? Do you think Mike Moore films have credibility? No, he may not have said those exact words but he impies and he implicates those words especially in their use to affect an election and he did so again last night in the comiong trial of the six 9/11 planners.

Are you related to Neil Gabler?

    **********************************************************************

    Lussy furthers"

"KO obviously believes, as I do, that the terrorism threat has been blown out of proportion in relation to other serious issues that we are facing simmering just below the surface."

    END QUOTE

Blown out of proportion. Are you insane? Tell that to those that dies on 9/11. Tell that to someone whose best option on the top of the Trade Centers that morning was to jump 100 floors to their deaths rather than burn to death.

    **********************************************************************

    Mike futhers his stupidity:

"It is also obvious that he believes that the so called counterterrorism policies in which Bush has pursued, mainly the invasion of Iraq, has made us less safe. In other words, the wrong solution was worse than no solution at all. ..... I totally agree!"

    END QUOTE

Look up the definition of terror because you and Oblyturd's mugs are pictured right next to it. Holy shit, let's not hit back because we should be afraid of retribution. Well Lussy (in my best Ron Reagan impersonation), it looks like us killing terrorist has prevented any furhter attacks not only on our assets abroad but on our own shores, something the piece of shit Bill Clinton can not boast.

    **********************************************************************

    Mikey fillay spent:

"The bottom line is that, while you may disagree, there is no contradiction."

    END QUOTE

Wake up Alice, this aint Wonderland. If it weren't for saps and Simple Simons like you, asshats that make statements like "That depends on what you definition of "is" is" would have been ran out of office in shame.

    This site absolutely rules
    Viva Robert Cox
    Viva Johnny Dollar
    Viva Phony Soldier

And even viva you Mike,,,,,,,this is a website where you can come utter such brilliance as "mlong, I have never heard a claim on Countdown that the threat of terrorism is being "made up". I must be a lunkhead, i used to think that was the basis of Keith's WHOLE SHOW..stupid me

Wow...I am part of a conspiracy here at OLBERMANN WATCH...I am so proud!

Do I get a secret decoder ring and microchip reader?

    Mike,

How did the invasion of Iraq make us "less safe"? How do you know how safe we are? I don't claim that I know the answer to that one.

And don't wiggle out of it by saying our troops in Iraq are less safe, because that is not what you meant.

How are you and I less safe?

Ha...I have to laugh.....Keith Olbermann is the biggest cheerleader on the left's squad that Fox News is a shill for the republicans....and what does Clinton Co. think?

What a mess these poor, unprofessional journalists have gotten themselves into.

MSDNC should think about removing all the adjectives from Keith's show. That would cut Meltdown to 5 mins and MSDNC could run more commercials. Seriously, does Keith really need to stick and adjective before every noun? He could fit in another Brittany Spears attack in if he cut out just a few.

How are you and I less safe?

Posted by: Rico at February 12, 2008 9:41 AM

Rico, did you expect an answer? I hope not. They're just chirping anything and everything Olbermann. Right on cue.

Well Rico, now that 10:58 partially answered your question, I can be more brief in my response. I'll just add a few more details.

    - Lost respect around the world makes us "less safe".

    - Increased worldwide Jihadism recruitment as a direct response to the occupation makes us "less safe".

    - We have lost the ability to react or intimidate internationally because the world sees how badly we have been tied up in Iraq, and know perfectly well that we would be hard pressed to open up another front. THAT makes us "less safe".

    - Our gradual desent into an international debtor nation, greater magnified from conducting a war that we are not even paying for has also made us "less safe".

Finally Rico, your question of "how are you and I less safe" sounds more like a personal question than a national security question to me. I have never felt 'personally' in any danger from terrorism........have you?

I would really like a quote from someone who knows that we, as a nation, are ripe for the picking in terms of being, "unsafe." I have been told this from leftists since 2005 and yet......

No new activity from North Korea.

Iran is supposedly not on the brink of wiping Israel off the map.

Iraq is safer than it was one year ago thanks to the surge.

There has been no major terrorist attacks on us or our allies in over one year.

Although a cyclical recession may occur over the next several quarters, unemployment is still at record lows, inflation is no where near that of what we saw under Jimmy Carter and interst rates are still managable for most RESPONSIBLE middle class Americans.

I see a great future, as always, because of the American people....not the helplessness and hoeplessness of Mike and the left who always needs people to be in fear and loathing to achieve their political goals.

It also serves to distract from the results of a war policy that will abandon allies and give the jihadists a victory.....Premature withdraw is still the only valid issue to discuss here and everything else is demogoguery. What will happen if we do like Clinton and Oabama want....all troops out by the end of the President's term?

Oh and one final point....the left will never have credibility when it comes to national security because their record in the 1980's and 1990's was to slash and cut defense budgets without preperation for future security threats....Look at the budgets, "the peace dividend" promised by the adulterous sodomite President Clinton....Oh, then 9/11 happens......

And what about how the radical left is treating The Marines in Berkeley Ca, Mike? Do you approve of this to "make us safer?"

Polls like the ones you and Professor Honeydew use never deal in specific policies. They have little predictive value as do generic "republican v democrat" presidential polls.....

When the policies are discussed or the candidates stand in front of the country, people get serious and those previous polls mean nothing. The typical, normal person does not pay attention to politics is an election year until AFTER LABOR DAY!

The polls looked good for democrats prior to the 2002 and 2004 elections and what happened?....Lets stick to the facts regarding polls and look at Hillary's negatives...oh wait those polls need not be looked at, right anon?

No delusion here....How could McCain beat HRC and come close to beating Obama in polls if other polls show republicans need not even apply?

Like the Super Bowl upset.....lets play the game, anon.

And what about how the radical left is treating The Marines in Berkeley Ca, Mike? Do you approve of this to "make us safer?"

If he had a problem with it, believe me, he'd be crying his eyes about it. Honeydewdrop would be plastering it all over this blog, too. I can picture them sitting in their plastic chairs banging away all dressed in pink!

Just a "distraction" says the demopologist.

Did the White House arrange payments to Hubbell in an effort to buy his silence about things he might have learned while he and Hillary Clinton were partners at the Rose Law Firm?
Did the White House pressure the McDougals not to talk during their fraud trial?
Did Hillary Clinton obstruct the investigation by lying or hiding her records?
Did Bill Clinton lie in sworn testimony in 1996 when he denied any knowledge of the fraudulent $300,000 loan to Susan McDougal

    It's called "debunking."

    Bush is not running losers.

The new candidates will present their visions and policies.

30-35% of the population is solidly behind the right moral policy in Iraq....

The average American is reasonable to hear a former POW and patriot to discuss the national security dangers of the left's plans to abandon the Iraqi people....

The chips will fall where they may....I am not deluded, like the lefitsts on this site, to know the outcome....

But I know what is right and wrong.

loons using wiki for proof. Now, there's delusion, front and center.

Pat Buchanan? Didn't he resign from the GOP? Wasn't he sounding to the left of crazy Howie Dean a few years ago? What the hell does Pat Buchanan know about current GOP issues--since he quit the party--and burned all his briDGES BEHIND HIM.dON'T GET ME WRONG--pAT CAN BE FUN---BUT HE'S NO LONGER A GOP insider---the GOP thinks he flipped his wig a few years ago--and rightly so.

Ricarh Wolffe-------where the hell did this guy come from?Would anyone trust him to get out of a paper bag, let alone win a global war of terror? Oh wait--Newsweek--that explains everything----who reads Newsweek now anyway ? I like The Ecdonomist--as does everyone else-----no wonder lefty Alter i s looking even more bizare these days.
Now for fat ass. Hmm--where was slipster this week?Oh, wait--he called fat ass's boy crush's kid a whore----so off he went into forced vacation( hmm--does MS-DNC say the slippery was being suspended w/o pay? Nope--so the slimy little orangeturd ass kisser gets an extra week vacation).Gee--no mention of Imus--until he was told he could by his GE masters---no mention of slipster either----hmmm--sense a pattern--oh and no mention of Mathews apology to Hillary last month either? But fat ass sure as hell can devote segment after segment to Britney Spears----tossing more gas on the fire that is her sad life---and then crying that he spends to much time of that poor woman. That's fat ass-----he will take shot after shot at poor Ms.Spears---despite the fact that all the evidence says she is in the middle of severe mental health issues----call the child of a presidential candidate a prostitute------but won't say a word about the great Mark Levine---who rammed fat ass's smirk right down his big mouth when fat ass went after him.Yup--fat ass is fine when he attacks a girl--in in Ms. Spear's case--a very sick and troubled girl who is unable to defend herself due to illness----but that's been fat ass's MO all along--he's a coward and a fraud----and the great Mark Levine proved it when he destoyed fat ass---notice how fat ass has not dared--dared--even mention the great ones name on his low rated MS-DNC--boster show?

I\'m not so sure the american public is willing to trust an adultorous sodomite like McCain Cee.

70% of the american people have grown sick of this war, the lies of the right in the buildup to it, the promises made about the cost and length of the war, the arrogence of the Bush administration in it\'s unwillingness to address many issues in a timely fashion, or admit to errors.

The rhetoric of the insuregency is in it\'s last throes have lost the right any credability with the american people Cee.

Not to mention the Far right seems to have turned on McCain for not being a xenophobe and being in favor of science. a Position the far right has a deep hatred for. McCain has dared to vote against the party on occasion and that is a sin that the lock steppers can never forgive.

No, poised with a chance to elect a man of principle who fought for his country and beleives in science and the humane ideals for which we were once known for, the far right is choosing to stay home.

Please explain what's wrong with facts from Wikipedia.
    I'm all ears.

The hope of the radical left....

There is no indication that thatwill happen and while there is much antipathy between McCain and some on the right....the right is not a monolith.....

I am as conservative as they come and I voted for McCain in the 2000 primary and in 2008....I read Coulter and listen to Rush....but I hardly take marching orders from anyone.

I guarantee if one reads McCains autobiography one will walk away with a sense of this man that makes him very qualified to be President.

So your prediction will be about as right as that about the troops in Iraq in Spring 2008.....This will be a close election and likely a republican victory in Clinton wins her party's nomination without Obama as her VP.....Obama in the picture makes it impossible to call.

Uh oh, te backward slash poster!

Joe Lieberman has dared to vote against the party on occasion and that is a sin that the lock steppers can never forgive.

Olby sucks, I read earlier what te backward slash indicated but don't remember now.

I do know that I am seeing more of them recently.

    Thanks,

One last point about national security issues....Andrew McCarthy has a great insight today at NRO.....

"On Sunday, the Pentagon announced that military prosecutors have decided to seek the death penalty against six al-Qaeda operatives who were complicit in the 9/11 attacks. Whether those enemy combatants will actually be executed, however, is a question better answered by three decisions made in the United States Senate on September 28, 2006.

"That was the day the chamber voted in favor of the Military Commissions Act. In pertinent part, the scorecard reads as follows:

John McCain (R., Ariz.) — Aye
Barack Obama (D., Ill.) — Nay
    Hillary Clinton (D., N.Y.) — Nay

"In sum, whether Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his five fellow savages are subjected to a military-commission trial at all, let alone put to death, will be determined by the outcome of the election in November, not the analysis of JAG lawyers."

This is a very simple difference between the right and left....9/11 terrorists treated as they should be....enemy combatants....NOT only criminals deserving of all the rights and priviledges afforded under The US Constitution....

Who do you think a majority of the American people agree with?......

"World War II, when, in a mere seven weeks, German saboteurs were captured, tried as enemy combatants under FDR’s order, and executed, is a distant memory. Essentially, we’re now looking at months and months, if not years, of litigation. And that’s without factoring in the layers of appeal that would occur after any trial, first in the military system, then in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and finally in the Supreme Court.

"No one can say how long that will take. One thing is sure, however: it will take us beyond January 20, 2009, the day Chief Justice John Roberts will swear in the 44th president of the United States.

"So, the 9/11 Six present an opportunity for Sen. McCain.

"When the Senate voted in 2006, it was being asked to decide what enforcement paradigm would best protect the American people. Should we return to the 1990s mentality of regarding our enemies as mere criminal defendants, swaddled in the same rights as American citizens accused of crimes? Should we, under the rubric of civilian due process rules, provide our enemies with a banquet of intelligence even as their confederates continue plotting new attacks?

"Or should we impose a system in which the enemy is given fewer privileges and life-saving intelligence can be shielded from disclosure?

"For all his reservations about interrogation methods, Senator McCain voted to treat the enemy as the enemy.

"By contrast, Senators Obama and Clinton voted to treat the enemy like we treat an accused tax cheat.

"So will Khalid Sheikh Mohammed face capital punishment after a military-commission trial? It probably depends on whether January 20th signals a return to September 10th."

Obama AND HRC symbolize a return to 9/10/01 and McCain will be able to make that perfectly clear.

Cee, an adultourous sodomite is someone the far right won\'t trust. The Anne Coulter Rush Limbaugh\'s and Sean Hannity\'s of the world are angry at McCain for retaining his humanity and his nefarious past.

This does not sit well the sadistic wing of the Republican party who beleive the only way to defeat the enemy is to be as much like them as possible. McCain has rejected this and been ostrasized for it. In additon his pro science views have infuriated social conservatives. Who are threatning suicide missions of voting for Clinton if she wins the nomination.

No the immorality of the far right will determine this election. Independents and moderates who embrace McCain\'s more humane stances will oppose him on issues like continuing and spreading wars killing more Americans and draining our coffers. His Past as a sodimite will turn of off the christian right along with his anti-torture views and issues where he has retained his morallity. This opens the door to the left who America is now realzing has been right all along.

I do know that I am seeing more of them recently.

    Thanks,

    A previously banned poster.

Sorry anon, you do not socialize in the circles I do....From the leftist view, that is a possible future based on NEWSWEEK, but the reality is that most conservatives, even evangelicals, know McCain is a conservative and will be willing to pull the lever for him just like we did knowing Bush was not all we wanted in a candidate.

Your mistake is believing conservatives are monolithic and cannot think on their own....We are a diverse group with diverse beliefs with different views of what "conservatism" is. Unlike the radical left that was born out of a new religious philosophy of secularism, conservatives are from many traditions and much more open minded to differences that do not attack the basic tenets of conservatism....

Purity is hard to come by and those who wish it soon see the impracticality of it.

People like McCain...he has high positives.....HRC is near 50% negatives...so if she is the nominee without Obama as her VP, get ready for President McCain supported by conservatives, moderates and liberal republicans alike.

You are right, Cee, about the small minority of purists. This is what I heard McCain say about the refusal to vote. He explained that his supporters in 2000 were angry and vowed not to vote, but most came around, and that is what he expects to happen here with the conservative base. Some won't come around, but most will. Right now, Huckabee is still in the picture, and we don't know whether he, Romney or someone else will be the VP. I have a friend who won't vote for McCain; she is a Ron Paul supporter and strongly committed to the pro-life movement. She sees McCain as completely untrustworthy and will not change her mind. But I don't think she represents the base.

There are many people who distrust McCain, I have reservations since the "Gang of 14," myself. However, on the important issues of national security, taxes and spending and judges, unless aliens have taken over his brain, he is a conservative and will not change his philosophy and approaches to these subjects.

Human caused global climate change and human embryonic stem cell research are areas he has wandered off as has people like Bush (global warming), Hatch (ESCR), and others. Purity could make one leave with their support on these issues....it is their choice.

Putting them up against the most left the democrats could realistically give us....HRC an/or Obama, most will be practical.

Especially when it comes to Clinton Co.

The current clamoring from the radio right and evangelical power structure is simply for their own relevance....and McCain does not have a tin ear politically...he will mend bridges. I think the VP choice will come into play here, as will be his biography that will blunt much of the criticism and as the rank and file embrace him, the leaders of those two groups will follow.

The fact that he has old Reaganites like Kemp and Bennett defending him also helps.

    Cee,

McCain may try to mend bridges but his anti-family adultorous ways will catch up with him. He has opposed the discrimination of gays, he favored scientific breakthrough a real threat to the conservative ruling elite\'s power structure.

He opposed the fiscal irrespnsiblity of the Bush administration, by voting against the Bush tax cuts for the super rich, again threatning his standing with the ruling conservative elite. these and other issues have splintered and fractured the right and pushed independents towards the Democratic camp.

As McCain tries to reach out perhaps displaying his national security creditals the far right will call him soft on terror for his pro-human rights views. They will think he is a flip flopper and insincere for adjusting policy in the face of declining support for the war.

No, the right came out for Bush to support his policy of discrmination and they won\'t come out for the anti-family sodomite.

was David Shuster the "Worst Person" last night, I missed it?
