"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)
Guest Host: Alison Stewart
Topics/Guests:
UPDATED WITH VIDEO
He wasn't supposed to be on, but after Olbermann Watch ridiculed his taking a Bathtub Day, the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann got out of the tub and came into the studio. It's a Very Special Episode of the Hour of Spin. And it's a very special casual Friday at Olbermann Watch.
#5: Nice way to frame the pastor controversy: it all emanates from "the McCain campaign". KO plays the clips he wouldn't play yesterday, since the Rev is no longer on the campaign staff (so he's fair game for Olby now). Funny he didn't play the clip about the government created H.I.V. Obama didn't show up on schedule so Bear filled time with Lefty Alter. He gave the standard defenses ("guilt by association"), but nobody noted how those same defenses could equally have applied to last night's OlbySmear of John McCain. Certainly Merkle didn't mention that but he did worry about using the Rev's tapes to "swiftboat" Barack.
Say, why did Olby give up a Bathtub Day to come in for this "important" story? How important could it be when yesterday he didn't even report it? But we disgress.
Then The Man himself appeared. Here are the tough questions he pummelled Obama with:
Amazingly, Oralmann's interview was less fawning that his usual blue-dress style, and actually approached a sort of faded Xerox copy of, say, high school journalism. But it was in no way confrontational, and we'll go out on a limb and suggest that Major Garrett will make more news on H&C and Greta tonight than Oralmann did (which was basically none).
By the way, remember the OlbySmear over Cunningham's comments, where Merkle insisted McCain was responsible even though he hadn't heard the statements? Where he spent an entire segment with Maddow smearing McCain? That argument was strangely not in play tonight. But we digress.
Afterward Fat Ass returned quickly to form, suggesting that, well, even if Obama had been to a lot of sermons, the ones we've seen were overly dramatic because the pastor was playing to the camera. Even Lefty couldn't swallow that drivel and actually--gasp!--contradicted Bathtub Boy. Rough night on OlbyPlanet. So then KO switches the topic to preachers who endorsed McCain, completely neglecting the point that McCain's endorsers may have odd religious views, but Obama's pastor has odd political views.
Funny, Edward R Olbermann never once said that Obama threw Wright "under the bus" [Ding!]. There we go, digressing again.
With that the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann suddenly said it's his day off, and Alison Stewart took over. Well he did put in a 25-minute day.

If it's Friday, it's our weekly assessment of Krazy Keith's masculinity. This week, Monkeymann attacked Fox and other broadcasters 13 times. Olby's source (Hillary Clinton's Media Matters) criticized (MS)NBC 12 times, but Keithy protected his corporate masters with zero criticisms. That makes this week's Olbermann Manhood Quotient: -50 [patywaist limp].
And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 678th day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will in fact be indicted".
UPDATE: Clear headed analysis: Let's Play Olbermann Oddball!
UPDATE: Obama interviews
Major Garrett, Fox:
Keith Olbermann, MSNBC:
Clocked in for a twenty-five minute
Snoozefest with Olby to spin it
Got dragged from his tub
Then called in the sub
The ratings? Is Olby still in it?
That interview was 2nd rate at best. Keith just put the Obama pin on you hack.
You need to raise your standards O'Lielly.
That interview was 2nd rate at best. Keith just put the Obama pin on you hack.
> We would all do well to be as brilliant as Keith is.
Well you are.
haha. i had to come back here just to post about Keith's show tonight.
He was already there!! Why did he leave??
"yes its my show, and yes i already drove in to do it. but its my day off, so fuck it. i'm going home. bring in stewart."
in a related situation: MSNBC, give allison a show again goddamit. SHe is adorable and does an excellant job. If that brick contessa brewer can get two hours every morning, how can allison not get a show? What, are allisons knockers not big enough?
(yes, contessa is incredibly hot. I concede that point. But god is she stupid.)
So poor Obama was "swiftboated" by these revelations. Typical low-life tactic by the king of sleaze to imply that this was the work of the Republicans and couldn't dare have come from the only party locked in a tight political battle with the Obama campaign, i.e., Hillary. In the 20 years Obama and Rev Wright have been friends not once did he get the inkling that this man was a frothing at the mouth, anti-American racist? If you believe that then I got some prime commercial space on Air America I want to sell you.
Major Garrett is grilling Obamanation. He is holding his feet to the fire. Thank God this fraud was grilled by a real reporter and not some cheerleader on MSDNC.
What is great about this is that the lefts candidate is being brought down by his goofy preacher. This is the same left that says the right is controlled by "religious radicals". Who has the religious radicals?? LOL!!!
Olbermann has some excellent talents - he writes well, he can be very witty - but he really can't sustain an interview for more than two or three questions. Contrast his skills at interviewing with his former ESPN host Dan Patrick. Patrick is superb.
Olbermann clearly tries to direct the interview in one specific direction or area; and if the subject veers off from the course, Olbermann is lost and has to scramble to come up with a new question.
He needs a tight leash; but for some reason Phil Griffin just loves him and allows him to pretty much do whatever he wants.
Why are some of you so deliberately obtuse? Obama chose Countdown to make his latest stand, so Keith had to be there, dammit! It would have been seen as a sign of disrespect to have someone other than the host of the show speak with him.
Who the hell cares if he left after that. It was supposed to be his day off, and he took it.
yeah, i could just see tom brokaw or walter cronkite walking out half-way through their shows. please.
Olbermann has no work ethic. Even his stories and special comments are rehashes of blue blogs. God forbid he actually be a journalist.
Well, the condemnation statement tries to calm the waters, but Obamessiah fails to explain his history with Wright completely and the idea that he did not know about his anti-American views really is suspect.....
And why it took so long after the release of the sermons to move Obamessiah to release Wright from his campaign is another aspect of thisstory that will make it linger. And again, I believe McCain will not himself use it, but 527 surrogates will have a hayday with it all....and to their credit.....
For too long it has been a one sided weapon that democrats have used as a wedge issue....now they have to deal with it.
“No, no, no, not God bless America — God damn America!”
Rev. Wright
This was spoken by and advisor to Obamessiah and he claims he did not know Wright said it publically?.....Ok....yeah, right.
Hmm--wasn't just this week that hte orange stooge was telling his micro-audience on his low rated show that he was not endorsing the Obama campaign--yet when Obama gets into some hot water over his 20 + year relationship with his pastor of hate( btw what the good Rev said really isn't racist---in fact it's basic boiler plate for the hard left who infect--and now thanks to the maniacs at Move On ,crazy Howie Dean, and Olby's new masters the Kos kids-own the demcrat party--it's just 100% hate for America, her people, and her values)--where does he go?Why Fat ass and his comfy cozy low rated show to try out Obama war room responses on the orange stooge( hey --the orange putz could not be any more in the tank--or since it's fat ass--the tub, for Obama).
Hmm---I would have loved to see fat ass waddle into his studio to do his best as a KOS KID stooge to help out the Obama campaign test out the latest Obama war room responses. Amazing --isn't it that MS-DNC alllows this stooge to do a 60 min campaign spot night after night for the KOd kids new favorite--Obama.What's even better is the total lack of credibility the orange stooge has left --after tossing a shive right into the back of the DEMS 1984 VP candidate--a liberal in perfect standing--fat ass sewing in the R of racism right on Gerri's Dona Karen jacket (see fat ass--I too read ) like the loyal Kos Kid stooge he is---then last night doing a hit job on McCain--and tonight running--as far as fat ass can run--since he never once played any sport ever--yet he became a sports guy( a hated sports guy at ESPN--so hated that when ESPN hit a milestone aniv--everyone who ever worked fort espn was invited back---that is everyone except fat ass) on the basis of a 12 yr old boys need to collect baseball cards to do an emergency pr job for Obama. What a putz this orange hue hack is.
Never in the history of this country has a person whose paster says "God damn America" ever been elected president, and it's not gonna happen this year, either.
Jeremiah Wright is worse than a hate filled radical black nationalist, he is a maniac.
Cecelia, several dem guests said the same thing that you did yesterday about what is mainstream black thought.
I knew it was out there but just thought that it was on the radical fringe rather than being the dominant black view. As you pointed out you can see the same sentiments shared by the radical fringe represented by the HuffPoers, Koz Kidz, Crooks and Liars etc.
This primary season just went from being uncertain and unsettled to wild and woolly. If the book makers in England still put out lines on American politics I would love to hear about it.
We still have a lot of time in which ANYTHING can happen to either side to go but I must admit that for the first time since last election I would put my money on the repubs and not expect heavy odds.

Premises are assumed to be true as you proceed.
Premise 1.
If he did not know what his pastor was spouting for twenty years then he does not deserve to be president. Says reams about observation capabilities.
Premise 2.
He took his children to listen to the racist crap this man spewed from his foul mouth. With this assumption to be true I would not let my children socialize with his. I would not sit next to him at a sporting event.
Premise 3.
What his wife said she has no pride for America as a true feeling. I would not say anything more than hello as I passed on the street to either of them. I would even consider crossing the street to avoid eye contact.
I am a middle of the road libertarian and could have voted for any one of the three and felt OK. Not any more.
"Afterward Fat Ass returned quickly to form, suggesting that, well, even if Obama had been to a lot of sermons, the ones we've seen were overly dramatic because the pastor was playing to the camera."
J$
overly dramatic?
playing to the camera?
Sort of when Olby is doing one of his crazy comments?
Can someone tell me when someone left half way through his show because it was his day off?
Damn! what was so important that he couldn't hang around the last half hour he had to split?
Afraid Katy might sneak off on a 'Girls Night Out'?
As for Alison Stewart, How does it feel being Olby's 'Clean-Up Woman'.
Did he leave a tip on you're desk?

Please point out in what way KO is "brilliant" in your estimation...
Whoops!
How did that happen?
What his wife said she has no pride for America as a true feeling.
Vince - AZ
Vince that's a great connection!
What his wife said, ( No doubt picked-up in the Sunday sermons)
And the Pastor.
What part of the Church was Barrack in those Sundays for the last twenty years while this was going on?
Ya know...I was watching this drivel and came here to rip on KO because he is just such a....
wait a sec...its my day off I gotta go, where's my rubber ducky...
Janet, please finish for me...
obama has moved to being on defense. His tone has drastically changed as well. He's not bellowing as loud at his appearances. His whole demeanor has changed. Penn. is not a shoe in as the media has been reporting. The times are a changin. What has obama been saying about "Change?"
Poor Baby, I need a nickname for you after that comment: Funny Baby.
OK, here goes.
The Angels rule and KO drools!

Grammie, I googled the HIV conspiracy theory and I was even surprised that Bill Cosby had ventured it at one point.
This really is typical stuff in the black community. That's not an exaggeration. There's a lot of reasons for such paranoia that are utterly understandable and then there's the fact that many of these fears have been inculcated and played upon by politicians.
Obama's lie about not having heard those particular opinions from Rev. Wright before, was a calculated political move and one he had to make. The fact is that like every other African-American, Obama has heard this sort of talk and these sorts of sermons since he was a little boy. You can take that to the bank.
Olbermann hasn't hesitated to accuse the Clinton camp of every sort of campaign ploy, but he stopped here. He blamed this criticism of Obama's pastor to on John McCain. Olbermann knows just how potent and sensitive this is and that if Obama doesn't make it, if people believe that Hillary went about dragging into the light day, the things that are generally aired only in the family, it might be the straw that broke the camel's back as far as African-Americans staying home instead of voting in Nov.
There's a lot of work to do here for Republicans, if we're ever going to make inroads into the black community.
As in liberalism, there's a sense among racial minorities that these sorts of beliefs that are critical of the country are, in some way, a credit to those that hold them. They are a badge of honor for being savvy of the powers that be, in the way an eternal dissatisfaction and angst about "the way things are around here" is honorable to liberals because it represents a soul tortured by social injustice (and longing for heaven...) Like Mrs. Obama talking about just now feeling pride in the nation, when Mike here at OW says that the time he felt the most relieved of his liberal burden was when Bill Clinton balanced the budget, he's pronouncing his bona fides.
Republicans don't think like that and don't feel like that so it'll be hard chasm to bridge with minorities. We've got to start figuring out how.
"Also, I am not here endorsing Senator Obama's nomination,"
Olbyonesidedkanoby
I think we have our #1 for the Top 10 Lies of '08. It's only March!
WOW! Even Bob Beckel just said he thinks obama knew about the reverends hate based sermons (duh). All the while defending obama!
I apologize to Barack Obama and his "rich white American" hating Reverend that I was born white and in America. Obviously I had a choice but screwed up - I hate myself.
If I could only tell Obama's congregation that I'm not rich maybe they'd like me! But because it's impossible to look at someone and determine if they're rich or not they'll hate me because I'm white.
Because of my choice to be white and an American I can't understand what it is to be a black and an American. However, if I chose to be black I think I would still choose to be American out of all the countries I could choose from. Unfortunately I would still be hated by Obama's congregation because I'm American.
Cecelia, I've been thinking about your comments yesterday quite a lot. Looking back I should have had a much better understanding of the situation than I did.
Your view and info gave me a new perspective on the current debate that is disturbing. It seems as if the concrete progress we have made as a country, and that progress is tremendous, is non existent as far as the perception of it is to a fairly large minority.
This is definitely a tough nut to crack.
Have you read any of Dr Thomas Sowell's writings? He can explain the how and why that we have arrived here but doesn't have any more suggestions than anyone else on how to solve the problem.
If only we had passed the Civil Rights laws and enforced them and skipped the War on Poverty and The Great Society I belive we would be in a much better place than we are now.
Grammie
Keith Olbermann's double standard is amazing. When a radio host at a John McCain event says Obama's middle name, Keith crucifies McCain for it. But when Barrack Obama's own pastor of twenty years and a man who Obama refers to as his uncle says that America deserved 9/11 and that the United States of America is the "United States of KKK", Keith says that Obama is being "swift boated".
I love it when Keith "Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles" Olbermann calls someone else a racist. It's like the big fat orange pot calling the kettle black.
CountDung, first I love your name.
I think you just refined the problem down to its essence to a large degree.
Grammie
How long before obama is denouncing his wife and children? Just curious.
The link in The Red-Meat Mini Blog titled "Iraq: Worth the Price" by Christopher Hitchens is a pretty good read.
I also have been getting a kick reading the links to some of the Libs going bat s**t ballistic b/c KO is now using the exact same tactics against Hillary that he has used for years against GWB/Repubs.
Grammie
Olby is the best. He is ensuring the lefties push for the craziest, most unelectable left wing candidate. Without men like Olbermann, the lefties would have a real chance of electing their horrifying commie leaders.
Thank you Herr Olbermann! Obama for Prez! Now if only that kooky disavowed and jilted preacher would go on a few talk shows . . .
Keith's interview of Obama was weak.
He can't interview, he can't have a debate with opposing view points, he can't get the facts correct and half his show is one bad joke after another.
And his degree is not in journalism it's in communication.
How the heck did MSNBC decide to hire this guy on the 8pm slot?
Major Garret showed Keith how to do an interview. Keith probably saw the interview Garret did and he has to be embarrassed and a shamed of himself.
The problem with Keith interviewing Obama is that he accuses Hillary and McCain of many outrageous things and never has them on his show to rebut his false misrepresentations, because he can't defend his words.
This makes Keith look like a shill for Obama.
Hillary, McCain and Obama can't be responsible for every word said from nut jobs that follow and support them, so I'm not going to lump Obama in with Jeremiah's ignorant comments.
But this could be a problem for Obama, at least he has to be given credit for going on Fox.
Many democrats are scared to go on Fox because of the tough questions they'll be asked.
Keith did about two hours on the Ferraro story I wonder if 26 minutes is all he'll devote to the Jeremiah story?
KfK, it is a hoot, isn't it?
The leftist lib blogs I've been reading since I ventured onto the internet almost two years ago have been virtually monolithic until now. It does seem that KO has pulled the fulcrum out from underneath a fair amount of them.
I almost, I said almost, feel sorry for Ferraro and her llib counterparts who are Clintonistas.
It must be a shock to suddenly find themselves on the receiving end of the 'slings and arrows' of accusations of RACISM coming out of the blue with no justification like a bolt of lightning.
I have loaded up with popcorn so I can sit back, nibble and enjoy the show!
Grammie
Will the left's shill, Keith Olbermann, cover this important story of backroom manipulation of the democrat party primary by money interests?......
"Reflecting how tense the situation has become, influential fund-raisers for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton have stepped up their behind-the-scenes pressure on national party leaders to resolve the matter, with some even threatening to withhold their donations to the Democratic National Committee unless it seats the delegates from the two states or holds new primaries there.
[...]
"Pushing to seat the Florida delegates, at least one top Clinton fund-raiser, Paul Cejas, a Miami businessman who has given the Democratic National Committee $63,500 since 2003, has demanded Democratic officials return his 2007 contribution of $28,500, which they have agreed to do.
"'If you’re not going to count my vote, I’m not going to give you my money,' said Mr. Cejas, who was the United States ambassador to Belgium from 1998 to 2001.
"Christopher Korge, a Florida real estate developer who is another top fund-raiser for Mrs. Clinton, held an event last year in his home that brought in about $140,000 for the national party, which was set aside in a special account for the general election battle in Florida. But he told committee officials this week that if Florida’s delegate conundrum was not settled satisfactorily he would be asking for the money back.
"'If we do not resolve this issue,' Mr. Korge said, 'I think it’s safe to say there will be a request for a return of $140,000.'
The anger from Clinton fund-raisers seems to emanate mostly from Florida, where the impasse appears farthest from resolution. Democratic Party officials in Michigan on Friday proposed a new primary election on June 3 to make up for the January election.
[...]
"The situation in Florida seemed more intractable, with Clinton supporters arguing the party’s prospects in November could be jeopardized if a satisfactory resolution is not found. Some Clinton backers said they were intentionally withholding their contributions to the party, arguing that Howard Dean, the D.N.C.’s chairman, has left the situation in the hands of the states and the candidates, as opposed to exercising leadership to resolve it.
"'My wife and I could max out, and we won’t,' said Ira Leesfield, a Miami lawyer who has given $61,500 to the committee since 1997. 'We’re dissatisfied with the D.N.C. not taking the bull by the horns.'"

Oh well....Obamessiah's powers seem to be weak against these few of the MANY deep pocket supporters of HRC....I think Cecelia may have more to her point about HRC still having a good shot at being McCain's opponent in November.
Like I said before....as an American I would be sad for my country to see HRC be so close to the Presidency....but as a republican....all right, go for it dems....a candidate with such high negative poll numbers would be easier to defeat in November
Obamessiah better get his game back soon before he becomes a VP possibility and he has to swallow his pride to be HRC's Dan Quaile (sp?)....Oh the irony!
3600 posts....mostly nervous leftist Obamessiah disciples worried their redeemer will succumb to HRC (the devil with her tempting manipulations...."Vice President Obamessiah!") in the desert before he reaches the real mission against McCain and those truly evil repubs!.....
Oh my...this is fun to watch.....hate speech from his spiritual advisor and mentor......more money woes regarding Rezko.....a primary season in the political desert that looks like it is going to extend into June....possible July....possibly to the CONVENTION!
wannawipe needs to make himself feel better....
Just go back to the progressive democrat NY governor's troubles....at least there is a real hot looking lady in that story!
Looks like the Obama and Clinton camps are all a bunch of racists and the Dems are fighting and feuding.
Does anyone remember all the talk about the GOP being broken beyond repair and there is no way they can repair the party in time for the election? How the tables have turned.

I enjoyed this website. Thanks for starting it.
Keith O must a closet campaign manager for Obama. He is total supporter of Obama. I think the public expects some fairness.
so we are all to beleive that Obama never heard any anti American anti White Anti Semetic sermons in the 20 years he went to that church. What a bunch of crap plain and simple. This is the end of the his run, he will never surive this. He is a anti american, anti capitolist phoney trying to run as the every man, the truth will set you free my brother. Oh and Keith Olberbitch what a complete and utter moron talking about the right swiftboating Obama about this, hey keith he swiftboated him self. Really i cry for the future of our country with fakes and frauds running for the presidency and people like KO spewing such anti american propaganda to forward there own personal agenda. if we keep on this path in no time will we be a third world nation.
Well, we can add Larry Elder and Michael Steele to the list of people that think obama knew full well the subject of the good 'reverends' sermons. Larry Elder went on to say that he has been in black churches all over the US and has NEVER heard anything like the good 'reverends' sermons.
DP, how may times are you going to re post obama lying?
The biggest loser I see in this Fauxbama/Wright thing is OPRAH. She threw in with this garbage so that the "black agenda" (whatever the hell that might be) would be front and center. They(anyone in that "church") are now being exposed as white hating, America hating moonbats. This is the worst thing that could have happened to blacks in America, by their own hand. It shows why they are the only minority that won't integrate, and the only minority to suck off of the system for generations. Koreans, Vietnamese, Chinese, Mexicans, et.al. all come here, not knowing the language, broke, and hopeless, and in five years they a own a chain of stores and are voting Republican. Meanwhile, Blacks are preached to that Whitey is to blame for everything, and stay at the lowest rung in America for generations. Maybe blacks will finally awaken to the reality that their ministers, politicians who milk identity politics for all it's worth, and so called "Black Leaders"(Jesse, Fat Albert Sharpton-You know, the race pimps) are herding them like cattle to the failure trough so that they themselves can benefit financially...Too bad the MSM isn't putting two and two together as far as Fauxbama's "mentors" and who they are politically....Fauxbama is nothing but a socialist/Fascist running on the black victim card..Gerry Ferraro was right. Who the hell would consider a white 46 year old one term Senator for President? Yeah, no one...Oprah has screwed herself. I won't be surprised if her cult following starts falling apart. I saw it coming, just didn't know it would turn out like this..Who'da thunk there are serious black rascists, and it seems it's institutional..? Go New Black Panther Party...Man, liberals are really naive....................
Did DP mention that the majority of all the posts on his ever s loved puffington post read like this? Of course not! Thanks, DP!
Your excuse that you were not aware of these statements made by your Pastor, Mister Obama, does not hold water. You sought counsel from him prior to running for president, base your presidential campaign from one of his sermons and have had a father and son relationship with him for over the last 20 years. He married you for gods sake. You can not just stake claim to words that are not offensive and be shielded from the negative ones. Shame on you!

I wonder when Michelle Obama gets thrown under the bus?
"Hey, I'm married to her and she's the mother of my children, but I don't agree with what she says. That's expecially true for any statements which may have offended anyone."
It's all good, and if it ain't good, he ain't down with it!

Mr. Obama, in not completely extracating himself from this church, where his pastor (whether he is resigning as pastor or not) and congregation, is clearly spreading White hate, and whose congregation are obviously a security risk for Senator Clinton, disqualifies him to run for the Democratic candidate for president. It was not just the pastor's inflamatory language (it could actually be likened to a KKK meeting) but the congregation jumping up and down in their pews, screaming "amen" and agreeing with the pastor's words that indeed implicate any person who attends this "church." Mr. Obama cannot continue to attend this church and expect Americans to believe that he does not believe the anti-White, anti-American hate spewing forth from its pulpit!

Elections are about perceptions. Have any of you been listening to talk radio this week?
Educated liberals can debate this from now until November, but America is full of people who are not educated liberals. Obama cannot win the GE.
He's done.
Reply Favorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:52 AM on 03/15/2008
For Obama to even SUGGEST that he did not know about the militant views of his pastor, but attended church there for 20 years, is laughable. I am rejecting and renouncing my support for his campaign. There is no way to talk his way of this. There is no way he can't, in his own circles, believe the venom spewed by Wright. It's illogical that anyone would attend, out of any church in Chicago, that one unless they subscribed to those beliefs. Period. So, I'm back to team Hillary because Obama could never win the election with those skeletons in his closet.
Reply Favorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:48 AM on 03/15/2008
It will be hard to vote for Obama after this. More than the anti-american rant, the victimhood preached by the pastor is disgusting. I believe that is where Michelle Obama got the mindset of feeling patriotic for the first time even though she had the opportunity to go to Princeton and Harvard. I sense an arrogance and revenge mentality in the Pastor and Michelle. Don't know about Barack but he came across wishy-washy in yesterday's interviews.

The virginal PATSY, with 100% of his time available for trolling around, since he does not have a life, has managed to lay another turd on OW. I believe congratulations are in order!
Keith: "I see no reason to repeat it." (If I am going to repeat anything I will repeat on Bush, Rove and O'Reiley)
The above post (10:34) and olby sucks post about Elder and Steele sure shoots the hell out of Cecelia's claim..."This really is typical stuff in the black community. That's not an exaggeration"...
Not that I have heard differently from my black friends, but with them they all say the same thing tongue in cheek. Like it's a blast to them the few times that they have heard this garbage. A laugh riot, but unfortunately, as the video from that church beared, the flock were taking it all in with high fives and screaming their approval.
Like I posted previously, this is pretty scary stuff, and like with most churches, schools and parents if the kids are being taught this daily what else would you expect from the blacks.
How exactly Cecelia could we (whites) diffuse this kind of racism and help to better race relations when we have exhausted ourselves in trying to help the black race, while at the same time the black children are being bombarded from their own kind the outright lies and trash these elders preach?
I mean when does the crying stop, and self responsibility take over?
Our country is going poor in trying to make up for past misdeeds (welfare, food stamps, free health care, hiring by race agenda, etc.) and all the while only hear about how bad "whitey" is.
I'm married to a Columbian, and like the 10:34 poster said, like most minorities she is a republican and loves this country, and believe me the prejudice she has expierienced any black would never want to change places with her.
She is a teacher doing very well, but when she came here 22 years ago didn't know an ounce of English, and now teaches English so how did she manage so well?
White guilt Ceceila is what has caused all these race problems, and frankly the answer to your question is not what WE have to do to to bridge this widening racial gap, but what THEY have to do.
We couldn't possibly do anymore, and if over 40 years of trying to make up for the horrors of the past hasn't worked, then I would think it's about time they made an effort to change their ways, and if this reverend Wright is any indication of what they think then it may be a long time before we see that happening.

wolverine, I happened to catch a segment on O'Reilly's show last night. He had two black women, I forget their names and all they did was scream "you're people imported blacks to be slaves" over and over among many other asinine and racial comments. Bill couldn't get a word in edgewise They claimed to speak for "the majority of blacks." The blacks (a great deal of them) wouldn't know what to do with themselves if they couldn't scream "racist" at the drop of a dime. If 'reverends' like wright are "standard" like Cecelia claims, those children being spoon fed hate like that don't stand a chance. Plain and simple.
I wonder when Michelle Obama gets thrown under the bus?
"Hey, I'm married to her and she's the mother of my children, but I don't agree with what she says. That's expecially true for any statements which may have offended anyone."
It's all good, and if it ain't good, he ain't down with it!

Olby Sucks, African-Americans don't need to be "spoon fed hate". They can experience it first hand.
One of the biggest epiphanies of my life was an experience I had a good number of years ago (but not THAT long ago) when a white friend of mine was attending a college that is considered a "black college". She had six or seven black classmates over for a study session, I happened to come by, and after a bit we decided to go over to the campus to eat.
As we were crossing one street, cars full of idiots driving by yelled the "n word" out the windows. This happened TWICE with two different cars!
"That's life" one of the girls said to me.
Yes, I think that politicians and professional civil rights leaders like to instill the notion that things haven't progressed much in this country for nonwhites. That is patently NOT true. And there's certainly a black hiphop culture that is doing young African-Americans NO good. However, for goodness sake, don't act as though there's not some historic and current day precedent that works as the building block for the paranoia of a Rev Wright. THAT is the sort of mindset that only fosters estrangement.
Frankly, our political party has seen enough of that.
It's beyond me why you continue to defend and apologise for the good 'reverend' wrights hate filled 'sermons.' I'll leave it at that.

Wolverine, I'm not following you. You seem to be arguing two things at once-- that Rev. Wright's beliefs ARE rare and are not prevalent in the A-A community, therefore uniquely radical and shocking AND then that they are NOT rare and are purely the result of political pandering, manipulation and white appeasement.
Which is it?

Olby Sucks, it's not a all or nothing proposition here. It is perfectly logical to find these beliefs unrealistic and paranoid AT BEST, and to also understand they did not come about in a vacuum.
One minute it's "standard" and the next it's "paranoid?"
All I can say is the only good that has arose from this is obama is on defense, big time. And not doing well, at all. He has no one to blame, but, himself, too. mike can't come here screaming "smear" or "swiftboat." Although, it wouldn't surprise me.
Yeah, "my people."
Let's see. My father was Italian and my mom Irish. I really can't remember the last time they imported any blacks, although they did buy some imported wine from Italy.
They brought me up in a mostly black neighborhood, and the only time I learned about or saw any racial prejudice towards the blacks was what I learned in school or saw on TV.
Now that being said, I know that there has been racial, ethnic, religious prejudice since the beginning of time towards every group that ever came to America (hell, the Irish were considered the worst of them all when they first came here) , but the one group that just won't let it go are the blacks.
Right now that group would have to be the Hispanics that are going through the ringer, but in their case it all stems from the Illegals which is much easier to accept, but at the same time my wife has had to deal with it (she's been legal for almost 20 years now) , and still does because of her accent, looks (hot... think Shakira...) etc, yet she never claims racism.
Yeah, she LOVES her new country, and hates what these illegals are doing to get in, as she thought to do it the right way, and yet when she came here knew nothing, I mean NOTHING, about how prejudice the blacks were until she had to deal with it herself from them.
Certainly an unbiased opinion if there ever was one, and yet she formed this opinion long before she met me. She can't understand it, as most of her fellow teachers are blacks, and they constantly make fun of her accent and her ways.
She has her masters and is still going to college taking more courses to better herself and her career, and yet never stops telling me daily about how prejudice her own teachers are.
Now was she also one that "imported blacks to be slaves?"
I predict, although I'm sure I won't be around by then, that the Hispanics in 40 years will be looked at for the most part no differently than what the Irish, Italian, German, Russian, Asian, etc. nationalities are looked upon right now. In other words no different than the rest of America, but that the blacks will still be screaming racism.
Funny though, the ones that don't scream prejudice are the ones that seem to be doing the best. In other words they are the ones that never used that as a crutch and found their American dream on their own. Like every other group that came to this country.
"those children being spoon fed hate like that don't stand a chance. Plain and simple." Ain't that the truth

I used the term "standard" in the sense that it is prevalent, OS. A mindset can both be widespread AND irrational. Irrational thinking can be an illogical extrapolation or exaggeration of a real situation or dynamic.
It's no good just telling people that their fears are utterly psychotic and seem to have sprung from thin air, anymore than it's good to use those paranoid fears for a political agenda.
Cecelia. I'm not arguing that these things being "thought " by Wright and other blacks are rare, just that I feel that most black Pastors that spew this racial hate are rare.
I know that the underlining thinking of most blacks is that what he said is true (you had to notice the celebration with every hateful thing said about the white's from his congregation) as my friends at least acknowledged that some of his points were well made which did lead to some heated points between us to where we all afterwards just went out to play some ball.
(Most we just laughed at though, and they admitted that it wasn't something they believed in).
By the way, your example of what you saw in college is reprehensible to say the least, but having had bottles thrown at me, being slashed with a knife (three inch scar on my arm), cut with a razor (one inch scar on my forehead), and too many fights to count simply because I had the "nerve" to play ball at a black park or hanging out at their clubs or in dating their women, I think would qualify as something much worse than being called a name.
"That's life" is surely the response I had every time I encountered some of these racists, and I considered it a blessing if all I got was "white trash" or "honky" tossed my way. But, like one does learn with bigot people, it usually is just a few a..holes, and you move on.
My skin color, because of the town I lived in and the music I loved (r&b forever...therefore the black clubs), certainly got me into more trouble than any black person I knew, and yet it didn't stop me from achieving my goal of being happy.
I was never preached to by parents, teachers or any pastor that the blacks were bad or evil, and took every racial incident against me as the act of the individual a..hole. Plain and simple

You sound like a liberal. African Americans not only DO have a chance, they're living it. They live in the world and encounter good people of all races every day. They're progressing because they live in a country full of opportunity and decent people, even if they do manage to live a dual existence of compartmentalization in some sense.
I'd like more of them to be Republicans. I'd like them to embrace a country and a culture that where EVERYONE is taught to be human instead of being taught to be race or ethnic identity.. That's not going to happen by telling folks to get on the bandwagon or get the hell out of here. Reaching out isn't synonymous with pandering.
We've got a good opportunity here for a lot of folks to see that the Democratic Party and Democratic pols...hell...even the first black president and his wife...aren't the saints they have been billed as being... Look at some the rhetoric among the camps now. Look at some the weird election results in Democratic primaries that just beg for investigation. You think African-American Democrats are oblivious to this?
Get over yourself and get behind a strategy that can facilitate bringing minorities into the party rather than working against it.
We can start with sitting back and letting Hillary take on Obama, until if and when we have to.
Cecelia, ahhh I "sound like a liberal!"
Now that's a low blow! I'd rather you called me a redneck!
Seriously though, I too would want more blacks to be republicans, but then that would be pretty difficult if their thinking is behind what Wright says and preaches.
Why would a black become or want to become a republican when all they hear is that the white republicans (for sure that is what his whole sermon implied) are trying to end the black race by starting aids, inducing them to drugs, etc?
How am I working against that when all I'm saying is that it is time for everybody to do for themselves and not look to blame another race for their shortcomings?
When I was younger I got a DWI and was sent to prison for two weeks. Now because I was young I blamed the cop who arrested me, my lawyer for not doing enough to keep me out of prison, and the judge for giving me jail time.
I also blamed my brother who was a deputy inspector for not doing enough to help me. Matter of fact he endorsed the penalty by saying it would straighten me out.
Bottom line though, as I grew up and realized, is that it was ALL MY FAULT. Nobody forced me to drink and drive. It wasn't because of MADD that I got arrested. It wasn't because of the cop, my attorney, the judge OR my brother, as it was all because of me.
In other words I accepted the responsibility of my own actions, and I learned my lesson because I stopped blaming everyone else for my mistakes.
One has to accept what one puts into this world before one can achieve their goals. One has to accept complete responsibility for all one's actions before one can move on.
That is all I'm saying, and for me that does mean that we all are created equal. that we all have the same chance, and to use the racial crutch as the reason for being held back is bull.
Choices, in this beautiful country in which we live, are there for everybody, and not just the whites.
I don't know of any strategy to bring blacks (or whites for that matter) into the republican party other than to say that they should think for themselves and stop crying that they can't or won't get anywhere because they are black, or Jewish, or Italian, Irish, short, fat, skinny, ugly, smart, dumb or God forbid LIBERAL.
As my father always said "do for yourself, and you will do better."
