And that's saying something. Shocking statements from Barack Obama's pastor were all over yesterday's news--except for Countdown. Instead, Edward R Olbermann devoted an entire segment to an obscure pastor who recently endorsed McCain. Watch with awe and admiration as Olby's great political intellect, honed by years of baseball card collecting, puts it all in perspective:
Hat-tip: PhillyBurbs.
UPDATE: The firestorm over his pastor's comments has forced Senator Obama to make a stringent condemnation of those comments. How exactly will Edward R Olbermann handle this tonight, given that he totally spiked the story on Thursday? Can he possibly ignore it for yet another day? What's a slovenly political hack to do?
The answer is simple, elegant, and pure Olby. He won't come in. Yes, tonight Keith "Man on Fan" Olbermann is taking a Bathtub Day. Poor Alison Stewart has to try to pick up the pieces of MSNBC's tattered journalistic reputation. Such are the ways of OlbyPlanet.
UPDATE: Obama is scheduled to appear on Countdown tonight. He will already have taped an interview with Fox that will be shown on Hannity & Colmes and On the Record w/Greta van Susteren. Plus he will show up with Coop on CNN. It remains to be seen if Monkeymann will emerge from the Bathtub to bigfoot Alison Stewart out of the interview and handle it himself (to make sure Obama gets the most softball questions possible). If he does, we'll have a recap.
Obama is not responsible for his Pastor, just like McCain is not responsible for John Hagee and Hillary is not responsible for ___________ (who's her pastor?). Anyway, it seems Americans would rather have an aethist or an adulterer for a President rather than a good family man who professes Christianity. So many of you Americans have been demonizing Muslims and have even tried to claim that Obama is one. Aren't Muslims and zealots like John Hagee and Rod Parsley (who has called for the destruction of Islam) part of American society? How come you all behave like this and still call yourselves the "free world"?
Hey, Gibby just got fired from Fox. Why isn't Olby making a big deal about his "old friend"?
"Hey, Gibby just got fired from Fox. Why isn't Olby making a big deal about his "old friend"?"
Because he didn't.
"So many of you Americans have been demonizing Muslims and have even tried to claim that Obama is one"
I deplore and denounce any demonization of any religion.
However, it doesn't help my cause if the radicals in the Islamic world continue to perpetrate such horrific acts of terrorism. It doesn't help my cause either if those in the Islamic world don't protest more openly such acts.
Muslims are free to practice their religion anywhere in America. Just as Reverend Hagee and Parsley are free to practice whatever religious views they wish to espouse. We are a free country.
That freedom include the freedom to hate any religion. Many Americans wish that Christianity would disappear or, at least, not have any influence in America. They are free to espouse such views.
On the other hand, Christians, indeed non-Muslims, are not allowed to practice their religion in much of the Islamic world. Indeed, they are arrested and harrassed when they try to do so.
In order to have the moral standing to condemn Islamic bigotry - which I condemn - one must come to the table with cleaner hands than many Muslims currently have.
This battle was not started by the US. It was started by radicals Muslims.
If you wish to play the victim card, I'm afraid you're playing the wrong game.
Keith Olbermann is dumber than a suitcase full of rocks.
"How come you all behave like this and still call yourselves the "free world"?" - Rehema Ibrahim Anyango
The very fact that Americans can voice their differences, even making fools of themselves in the process, and not be stoned or burned to death for doing so (like in some unnamed societies) is the quintessential example of being free.

Because radial Islamists are wanting to kill Americans. I keep heaeing it's not all Muslims yet when I see video I see them protesting by the hundreds of thousdands. I see Muslims sitting back and not standing up and helping themselves.
Rev. Wright has been Obama's pastor for over 20 years and preformed his marriage. His church is founded on radicalism. I have listened to several of his sermons. This man is a racist. This man is so loony he makes Olby look sane. Do not even try to tell us Obama has not agreed with this radicals opinions. He aint passing the smell test Ace. Soon you'll be defending new finding everyday like the photos of Obama kneeling on a prayer rug, with his back turned to the flag, etc, ect.
It's coming.
I knew we would see the hypocracy show up once again at OlbyNation. Obly trashes Hagee about the Katrina comments but gives a man who is insane enough to say our government created HIV to wipe out people of color. I'd like to ask this man if he thought if our governement was so ruthelss why don't they just gather up all teh blacks and shoot them or put them on a boat back to Africa.
Obama will be the biggest bust to ever get the nomination, even worse than Dukakis.
We who live in the "free world" (love your quotation marks) have the freedom to worship any religion or to condemn any religion. Indeed, we have the right to even demonize religion if we want. The state will not arrest us for doing so.
Nor should they. It's called freedom of conscience.
Of course, a number of Americans have admitted that while they will criticize Christianity that they're afraid to criticize Islam because they might get killed or injured or suffer harm.
I hope our friend above opposes such actions.
I was absolutely floored that Olbermann completely ignored the Obama story and focused on pastor associated with McCain instead. It was surreal. I know Olby's a moronic douche, but, given the coverage by his own network of the Wright story all day, I really didn't think he would completely ignore it. It's official, Olbermann is more of a gutless hack whore than Kristin.
Oh, did anyone catch what Matthews just said on Hardball? He mentioned the controversy and then something about Olbermann. I thought he said someone(Obama?) would be on Olbermann to discuss it. That can't be right? I didn't get the whole thing. I could have completely misheard(word?) it. Probably. Anyone catch that?
I just heard Chris repeat it. He said Obama would be on Keith's show tonight. Jesus. Any shred of respect I had for Obama just went out the window. He's as big a gutless pig as Olby is.
Well Alison Stewart is supposed to fill in tonight. Maybe the big "get" of Obama will convince Olby to get out of the tub and show up tonight. I hope he does. That way we get to do another update to The List.
On the next Countdown, Olbermann will argue that despite McCain's 26 year tenure in Washington and Obama's 3 year one, it is McCain and not Obama who lacks the necessary experience to be Commander-In-Chief... :D
Hm, I'm watching Tucker now and they're covering Wright, of course, but made no mention of Oby on Olby. Seems like he would have said something. Hell, Chris may have been high.
Looks lik obama has been forced to condemn his "reverands" hate speech that has been running non stop on Fox News. One little tidbit he won't mention. The good "reverend" is still the leader of one of obama's cult groups that obama founded. If obama is going on the hour of spin, this will sure to be the topic. The olbyloons/obama cult members will be out in full force, tonigt! On the bright side, so will the Hillary lovers! Gotta love it......
According to The Newshole, Obama WILL be on Countdown TONIGHT:
OBAMA ON COUNTDOWN TONIGHT
You may have caught his latest blog over at Huffington Post, tonight catch him live on Countdown. Please join us tonight at 8p et for an interview with Senator Barack Obama.

Good for Obama for denouncing the Rev. Wright's remarks.
However, I am sceptical when he says that this is the first time he heard the Reverend express such views.
Make that deeply sceptical.
you have to give Dana Milbank credit, he disagreed with everything Keith said in this segment.
He had Keith backtracking and eloquently saying "yea but"
Dana even said, with emphasis, "you are the first person of the main stream media to report this."
Maybe I'm reading to much into Dana's comment but:
He called Keith a person and not news commentator
He said "you are the first person" meaning nobody else has reported it because it's not important.
And finally, Dana raised his voice when he said "main stream media" meaning Keith isn't main stream.
Maybe I'm reading to much into his statements but Keith wanted to do a serious hit piece on McCain and Dana made the whole interview into one big joke.
Jee now I know why Keith doesn't want opposing views on his show, he can't debate for his life.
If Obama is on Keith's show tonight, Keith will give him every opportunity to denounce his pastors words. Same opportunity he didn't give McCain and Hillary since he's been attacking them for months now.
It's Countdown giving Obama a nice friendly nonchallenging environment to try and lay the pastor peccadillo to rest.
However, I am sceptical when he says that this is the first time he heard the Reverend express such views.
Make that deeply sceptical.

You're such a cynic, Steve... :D
What’s even funnier is that Obamanation is going to give an interview on Fox News about his Rock n' Racist pastor instead of going to MSDNC for a blue dress interview.
Because Barak Obama sat in one of my pews, and listened to my racist and biggoted rantings for 20 years and nodded his head in agreement, Barak Obama's chickens, are comin home to roost. Can I get an AMEN!!! Can I get an AMEN!!! Can I get a Halleluiah!!! Can I get AMEN!!!
"The worst of America" Kraut describes the good reverend as. I couldn't agree more.
I'm not touching this story with a 10 foot pole. Someone get me my Mr. Bubble. I am hitten the tub. Have fun Alison Stewart. I'll see you next week. Maybe!!!
Major Garret will be interviewing obama BEFORE Olby gets his chance to slobber all over him and hand him softballs. Majors interview will be on Hannity and colmes.
Comments like this bought Olby a second Hour of Spin at 10 p.m. MSDNC brass just love when he bashes Christianity. He is just keeping in line with the mothership's Nothing But Communist ideology.
Worth a read, Olbermann's rant pondered:
(excerpt)
I couldn't believe this. (No I could believe this.) Olbermann actually has the nerve to cram in the talking point "false or true" that Hillary's "3 am phone call" campaign ad had racial "undertones." Then he goes that one better: In a truly graceful touch, he goes on to say that Hillary should repudiate Ferraro as a way of repudiating racial undertones that aren't there in other aspects of her campaign, because some people happen to see them.
Am I following this right? Is Olbermann actually saying that if Hillary launches any line of argument against Obama, IF someone on the Obama team SEES racial undertones, Hillary should find ways to distance herself from the racial undertones of her line of argument even if they aren't there? Isn't this really close to saying either that Hillary should make no case against Obama at all -- or that all arguments against Obama constitute either racism or the possible perception of racism, by definition, and must be repudiated?
If this is the case, then hasn't Olbermann just described the same state of affairs as Geraldine Ferraro, with the difference being only that he thinks this is a good thing?
I'm not defending Ferraro here. I'm just looking at Olbermann's argument, and it's not making much sense to me. What am I missing?

Dam, can you guys find my girlfriend's reporting on the morning news program here in NY, and post it here. I'm not a morning person, I slept through 9/11, although I did parlay that into an "Edward R. Murrow" award for my reporting on the radio, cool, huh.
Anyway, she won't show it to me. She's mad because she wants a career, when I thought it was clear that she was suppose to start a family, you know, have my offspring. I HAVE to reproduce, I HAVE TO! I'm great you know, my seed can not be wasted. Dam her career! Dam the tons of money spent on her already, dam! Find the footage dammit!
Oh my gosh, that video is so friggin' funny! And I ask again: Is Jeremiah Wright hiding under his desk, or is he soaking in his own bathtub?
Mr. O'Reilly, I'm begging you. Drop your Olby boycott, and cover this incredible hypocrisy. This is just too good to pass up.
Isn't it funny how Olbyonesidedkanoby refers to the Spitzer scandal as "saga?" It's not a "scandal" if it's a (d). It's a "saga!"
More lies from obama. He didn't know. Yea, right. He wants to be president and he doesn't know what his 'reverend' has been up to? TDF!!!(*)[+}-----
Obama just flat out lied. He said that he only learned of these vile sermons 'recently'. On Hardball, Chris showed a quote from the minister himself from a year ago personally telling Obama that he had said controversial things and that he may have to distance himself from him.
Making all religion illegal would be ideal. They are all cults made up of weak minded folks who believe in imaginary men in the clouds.. God is fictional bullshit.
I hope Odildo goes to that Chicago church.. Where hopefully someone will stick an ice pick in the base of his skull. That would warrant a belief in god.
Of course, he lied. Orangy said, "Do you expect to see these videos again?" The liar said, "of course, they've used them in the past." Then he backpedals and says, "they've used this kind of thing in the past." He's a lying piece of dung.
Keith is a living hero,, and the more he pisses off you rightwingers the better he becomes... ooooh America become afraid.. a half black man who is entirely too smart for this country is going to lead it to the future..

Obviously this half black man who ignores one half, is not smart enough to hide this Rock n' Racist preacher or hide his shady crook land dealer. Are you such a pathetic loser that you will vote for anyone who pushes your debunked statist religion? Are you so angry a people who are clearly better than you that you will vote for a bigot fraud? Yes you are. Don't worry though, because you and Obamanation chickens are comin home to roost.
"Living Hero?" Huh? No, Olbermann is an ex-sports hack who wouldn't have a single idea on how to be a real journalist. Kimberly Dozier from CBS, Bob Woodruff from ABC are living heroes for battling back from the injuries they sustained while covering the war in Iraq. And for having the guts to go there in the first place.
We don't deal in such small matters.
... ooooh America become afraid.. a half black man who is entirely too smart for this country is going to lead it to the future..

Is that you, Rev Wright?... :D
