I think its pretty simple. McClellan has basically confirmed everything they all wanted to believe, and a couple years ago he was allegedly in the President's inner-circle (not sure I believe this, as I recall Tony Snow being pretty adamant that a condition of his taking the job was that he wanted to be involved in policy discussions, unlike ScottyMc). This is just the next step in the process that KO started with CD....preaching only to the choir, and dealing only with those who agree with you.
