The hits just keeping on coming for Keith Olbermann, the discredited and widely disparaged tax deadbeat who poses as a "newsie" on something called MSNBC several nights each when he is not too busy helping his 24-year old live in girl-toy edit her freelance reports for Channel 11 News.
Pulitizer-Prize winning TV critic Howard Rosenberg poses the age-old question: Is Olbermann's snide act on MSNBC the future of TV news?
Rosenberg's conclusion: Is his ends-justifies-means credo good for the news biz? The answer is no
The piece is a must-read for Olbermann Watch fans but let me tease a few of the best lines:
Olbermann (and Matthews) spent the election season heckling Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton from deep inside Sen. Barack Obama's hip pocket and hammering Sen. John McCain since Day One.
When Obama clinched the Democratic nomination this week...calming down these guys would have required a defibrillator
Olbermann's homage to iconic Edward R. Murrow is like...a Cyclops saluting Brad Pitt
Guffaw.
We told them so.
I saw this last night via a google alert and emailed my feelings to Mr. Rosenberg.
I liked the piece until I got to the part where Rosenberg admits he kind of likes Keith and hates BOR. BOR has "wacky views"? Give me a break.
Mike,
I actually prefer that he said that, in some wierd way. I read this waiting for the "full disclosure" that Rosenberg works for FNC or once got a swirly from KO or something.
Rather, it was a (slightly snarky) legitimate critique of KO, and MSNBC, by someone who is a self-professed fan.
It strikes me that during all the accusations of bias in favor of Obama, I have never heard a denial from NBC News. They have been rather vocally thin-skinned regarding other criticisms of later. KO, of course, couldn't deny it (after his official appology to the Kossacks for his original anti-Obama stance), but Chris Matthews, Dan Abrams, et al, have been curiously silent on these accusations.
Wait a minute, the guys at Rosenberg's gym think Olbermann is halarious? Do they mean like when Olby does his impersonations? What does he mean? I wish he'd have used an example.
Gym guy #1: "Oh man, did you see how he nailed O'Reilly's voice?! Then he sounded just like Gibson! He's great."
Gym guy # 2: "No, no, no. Did you see him flip those papers in the air? How can anyone think this stuff up! It was just like Chris Rock would've done. That's funny as hell!"
Gym guy # 3: "How about when he said someone should take Hillary in a room and only he would come out! I'm telling you I laughed my ass off!"
CountDung, I... LMAO!!...
I wonder if Olbermann even sees stuff like this. Does his turtle shell defense against views that disagree with his extend beyond his..."newscast"?
It's gotta sting when somebody on the Left uses Olbermann's own term "echo chamber" to describe Countdown to Third Place.
Olby is so vain that he probably googles himself non-stop or pays his little honey to do it for him. My guess is that he reads Olbywatch. Being miserable is his life, so he probably checks this site all day looking for something to set him off.
"But at least O'Reilly invites dissenters to his lair (if only to disembowel them), whereas "Countdown" is more or less an echo chamber in which Olbermann and like-minded bobbleheads nod at each other."
This is my favorite part of the article. Olbermann's guest could be considered bobbleheads. I think bobbleheads are more intelligent.
I post over at TVNewser- and those loons (when confronted with ANOTHER left-wing negative assessment of Keef) started to attack Rosenberg!
They claim that he's old, senile, and scared that Keef is part of the brave, new media that will put Rosenberg out of business.
Of course, when told (again) about similar comments about Keef from Time, Washington Post, HuffPo, the Nation, etc, they just shrug those off too...
There are none so blind as those who will not see.
"whereas "Countdown" is more or less an echo chamber in which Olbermann and the like minded bobbleheads nod at each other."
Yawn! ....... Much like this blog has become!
Except that we allow dissenting points of view. Other than that you have a good point (not!).
Is it our fault that your hero is indefensible, mikeh? Whatever you do, don't make a peep about orangys tax woes.........just our daily dose. Actually, it's turned to 'just our weekly dose.'
"is it our fault that your hero is indefensible, mikeh?"
But it IS your fault that you are at least as one-sided as he is.
"Except that we allow dissenting points of view."
Obviously, nobody wants to dissent, .... probably because nobody considers any of this as being particularly important.
But it IS your fault that you are at least as one-sided as he is.

Weak........
"Weak......."
Your MO as always.
If you don't have anything to say to refute a point, just say something virtually meaningless.....like that.
"nobody considers any of this as being particularly important"
Really? I wonder why our stories are being picked up in run on hundreds of news web sites and blogs. I wonder why the Kossacks are writing odes to OlbyWatch. I wonder why there have been repeated attempts to use DoS attacks to shut down the site. I wonder why dozens of major blue blogs celebrated our decision to "shut down" Olbermann Watch last year. I wonder why Keith has repeatedly attacked this site. I wonder why we are the #1 Keith Olbermann web site in the world.
Face it, Olbermann Watch is arguably the single most important blog in the world.
"Face it, Olbermann Watch is arguably the single most important blog in the world."
You forgot to add the laugh track on the end of that post.
I do appreciate your sense of homor though!
"I wonder why we are the #1 Ketih Olbermann web site in the world."
Thats a little like taking pride in being the world's spitting champion.
