Yes, it has been only three days since the death of Tim Russert. And you might think it cold, given that short period of time, to reflect on who should succeed Russert in that chair. The next host will have to establish his or her own legacy to the program. Given our times, and the overall timidity of the Washington press core toward Bush and Republicans, the program deserves someone who can stand up to government, regardless of who is in charge. And that person is Keith Olbermann.
Olbermann has stood up to Republicans and Democrats. He is one of the best writers in any form on television today, and could add a special comment at the end of "Meet the Press." And he is the only one currently at NBC News who has the reputation of asking the tough questions of all sides, a true tradition of "Meet the Press."
By the way, if you are interested to get hold of whatever drugs Chad Rubel is on, please click here and send him an email.
Putting Keith on Meet the Press will be NBC News' "Jump the Shark" moment.
I think Gregory will get the post.
He made his bones at the white house and he is quite frankly, a disciple of Russert.
They should send that table and set to the Smithsonian.
They will need a new set and new graphics...etc...etc.
Bob, having read the post and the comments I don't even want to know what he is smoking.
Although he did admit it was a longshot subhuti thinks Norm Chomsky would be a great replacement.
If I didn't know better I would swear that the post and comments were first class satire.
"Olbermann has stood up to Republicans and Democrats."
Sorry, inaccurate....he has stood up to Republicans and Democrats not bowing down to the radical left.
"[Olbermann] has the reputation of asking the tough questions of all sides."
Really?.....Give me an example of a tough question posed in an iinterview by Olbermann to anyone left of and including Hillary Clinton? Please, just one tough question.
In a word....deluded.
Think what you will considering the source:
"For what it's worth, he didn't position himself publicly on this for obvious reasons, and we had had a very pleasant, very constructive 'what can we do to keep our two styles from hurting each other's broadcast, or the whole organization,' conversation. But Tim Russert was as supportive of what I did as anybody else at NBC, and his role on the MSNBC election coverage was voluntary and enthusiastic."

I for one doubt Tim Russert was really worried about "his style" hurting COUNTDOWN....but he was a nice man and perhaps he threw Olbermann a bone.
The same goes for his being an NBC NEWS team player and appearing on MSNBC election night coverage. Also, Russert LOVED politics and I doubt even Olbermann sitting in the anchor chair could keep him away from covering and analyzing the big political stories of our day.
Once again, for Keith Olbermann, it is all about him.
Hello to all charter members. I hope to contribute to the quality and spirit of this blog . The ""timidity of the washington press corp towards the Bush administration""?!?! ""Olbermann is the only one to ask the tough questions of both sides""?!?! Exactly what planet has this dude been on? I not sure this piece even warrants any rational reply. no thinking human being could have this opinion. In regard to Keithy's assertion that Russert had his back, well, I think that Mr. Brokaws recent comments have quelled the notion quite pointedly.
Welcome, spearule!
I hope you're just kidding, Bob. And welcome, spearule.
To suggest Olbermann as a replacement for Russert is a testament to just how clueless the far left progressive Olby-lovers are whats ironic is that many commenters over on the left side of the web at MYDD are tearing Olbermann apart.
The left does not want to maintain an objective media presence like the one Russert maintained, they want to force feed the viewers their warped agenda presented by raving partisan hacks like Olbermann hoping Americans wont figure out that the guy talking into the camera is a complete loon.
Just the their deceptive labeling of their agendas "Pro Choice", "Employee Free Choice", "Progressive" leave it to the lefties to suggest an empty silk suit like Olbermann to replace Tim Russert who was perhaps the most objective and fair political media figure of all time.
MikeC, I'm so glad you commented just now.
I had grandkids for what seemed like forever and I always turn over my computer, Game Boy, TVs to them and have my chance at big people fun after they go to sleep. Unfortunately my computer is in one of my guest bedrooms and I planned on listening to your Olbybot reading when they left.
I forgot about it and your comment here at OW reminded me about it.
They are so funny and educational. Take away the histrionics and KO's SEKs come across as what they are, overhyped drivel.
Rush is talking about Keith right now!
It's press CORPS. Corps, you f***ing idiot.

So you say, Keith. Isn't it convenient that Mr. Russert isn't around to corroborate your statement.
You see, your reputation for dealing with collegues, and those that who have ever worked with you preceeds you, so you'll understand if I don't believe you. Testimony from people you have left in your wake would suggest that you had a confrontational conversation with Russert. Truth be known, you probably hated him. Just as you hate anyone who disagrees with you or your "style." If you have a short memory, just ask Katie Couric.
maybe he meant apple core
If KO is a legitimate journalist, as he and his followers keep insisting, why was KO so accepting of Russert's refusing/abstaining from making his favorable "position" re KO "public(ly) on this for obvious reasons,"?
Assuming, and that's a huge assumption, that this conversation took place what was it about Russert's "style" that KO could see as "hurting" his " broadcast, or the whole organization"?
What a pompous conceited twit KO is!
Test
You know after a little thinking..I hope they do make KO the new host because even NBC wouldn't allow KO to have no Conservative or Republican guests..and the first time KO is force to face someone with a different view than his..is when He starts calling in to stay in the tub on Sundays..New Murrow indeed.
Robert,
This is a joke right?
But, can it core a apple? ed nawton
Not that it's going to happen, but I truly would want olbermann to be the next host. I've waited way too long for him to get fired by the leftist station he works for, but I believe the comparisons to Russert would overwhelm even the most hypocritical boss that msnbc has, and they'd have to get rid of him.
I mean how ludicrous would it be everytime a liberal comes on, and he tries to act neutral? Not only that, but if he has any say about who does come on mtp, it wouldn't be long until the general public gets sick of seeing anti-americans on week after week.
And, how in the hell would this wanna-wipe manage to keep a straight face if he ever had a conservative on? I can see it now:
Olbermann:(stammering with every question asked, as the FEAR, absolute TERROR of facing a real man has him doing everything he can NOT to blow the interview)... "Do you really believe we should still keep those "supposed" terrorists in Guantanamo?"
Romney: "Well, absolutely until we can find out all there is to know what they know even if it takes years. Our country's safety is at hand here."
KO: "Do you really think that's important?"
MR: (with a rise in his response)... "What? Keeping our country safe?"
KO: "No, I meant finding out what those poor unfortunate's may know. In other words, wouldn't it be wiser to ask Bush what he knows instead of some lost soul who was in the wrong place at the wrong time."
MR: (with indignation in his reply)..."Are you implying that President Bush has some inside information about the 9/11 attacks they he's not sharing with the American public?"
KO: "Of course not Mr. McCain, but after all wasn't it you who said that the mission was accomplished over 5 years ago, and if that was true then why keep these prisoners any longer Rudy?"
MR: "First of all I'm not John McCain or Rudy Giuliani, and President Bush NEVER said that statement. Where do you get your facts from?"
KO: "Let's stick to the question Mr. Huckabee, and lets not let facts get in the way. Could you please just answer the question. Was that truly a hunting accident, or was there some other reason he was shot?"
MR: "Who was shot?! What the hell are you talking about?! My God, I feel like I'm on Pee Wee Herman's playhouse!"
KO: "So, it WAS your storm troopers that raided that movie theater, while all of America watched in horror Mr. Chaney. How do you explain that?"
MR: "Listen, I've had enough of this nonsense. You're the most incompetent moron I've ever come across, and if I live to be a hundred I will never forget this day!"...Romney screams, as he storms out of the studio.
(silence follows for a long and agonizing minute followed by muffled voices, and then...)
KO:"Be sure to join me next week where I will have Governor Mitt Romney on discussing the quandry known as Guantanamo Bay."
Yeah! I truly PRAY that he takes Russert's spot!
Robert, up till now I have always respected your opinion, but after I clicked on that site (which you recommended) I will think twice before I go anywhere from your say so.
Jesus, it really made me sick to see all the unfiltered shit that was on there. A truly horrible experience to say the least, and the trolls were in full force over there.
Almost all of the posts were anti-american, and the one that used the Huffington Post as an EXAMPLE of good reporting truly made me wish I was in arms length of the moron. Stating that the Post had a "Russert Watch" was about as sickening as seeing any abortion up close.
These weak and limp dicks I'll leave for you and Johnny to scan for me, because believe me it brought back some real bad memories of just how anti-american this country really is.
The praise of olbermann was hard to believe, but at the same time the delusion in how they described him reminded me of the monster in "Pumpkinhead" where all rhyme and reason went out the door.
Truly disgusting, and I actually was hoping to read something from A N O N Y M O U S saying how stupid and inane these posters were, but there wasn't a chance he was on there as the IQ's of most of those people would never give him any intelligent responses.
Please Rob, the next time you ask for any participation on another hateful site, could you at least preface it with a warning.
You know maybe like: "If you want to respond to this moron you can go to......but you must have an IQ under 90 to submit, and you MUST hate America."
Thanks...Wolverine
