"COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" (8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. ET)
Host: Keith "Czechoslovakia" Olbermann
Topics:
Guests:
The opening spiel is always an important part of The Hour of Spin. It's where Oralmann slips in some of his worst distortions, ilke when he used it to claim that it wasn't Obama who cancelled the troop visit, it was the Pentagon. Conveniently for Bathtub Boy, MSNBC doesn't save video of the opening spiel. That makes it kind of a free-fire zone.
Tonight, Herr Olbermann used the spiel to call John McCain a liar, and then to ridicule him for taking exception to Obama's use of the race card. Why, asked Merkle, did he suddenly object now, when Obama's said that sort of thing three times before? Because, Olberliar, this is the first time Obama accused not some vague "they", but John McCain himself. He said that McCain was going to tell people to be wary of Obama because "he doesn't look like all those other Presidents". Naturally, "Man on Fan" Olbermann didn't tell his viewers that. It would have spoiled a wonderful smear.
J$:
#5 was more harping on the Britney Spears ad (how many days is this going to be a lead story anyhow?) and more McCain attacks. The Pundit for All Occasions actually made an effort in spots to be even-handed. No doubt Howie is filling the Milbank spot, since Keithy's masters at Daily Kos have made it clear that they've had their fill of Dana. Geno was more to Oralmann's liking so Howie was quickly gonged, and Geno slid in his place.
SB_Mich:
How dare McCain try character bashing and playing under-handed politics? Who does he think he is? Keith "Minute Man" Olbermann?

I love how Olby and Eugene Robinson claim that McCain is doing so horribly when the polls indicate otherwise. Poor pathetic libs. Olby just made a crass, tasteless comment (shocker!), saying that the McCain campaign is racist and eventually will claim that B. Hussein Obama is not black enough. Shameless and deplorable is correct.
And here go Olby and Paul Krugman spouting off about eeeevil oil companies and the Dems' opposition to "meaningless" offshore drilling. How out of step with the public can the moonbats get? Krugman is now saying the media is partially to blame for not covering the story correctly (read: spinning the story the way the libnuts want it to be told).
Funny how Olby and Chris Kofinis don't mention Sen. Bill Jefferson's corruption charges and his $90,000 in the freezer, and speaking of another Bill Jefferson, how the Clintons sank the Democratic party in the 90s. That will never be mentioned during the Hour of Spin.

Do the math... Zogby Poll: 74% Support Off-Shore Oil Drilling in U.S. Coastal Waters. Telephone survey finds 59% of likely voters favor drilling in ANWR.
Observer Dan:
KEITHS CREEPIEST MOMENT: His announcement that Luke Russert will be joining NBC to cover the upcoming conventions, focusing on the 'youth vote'. Memo to Luke; Give Peter Doocy a call.
Mike C:
In the Media Matters Minute, Fat Ass attacked the following people for no good reason:
Worse: Some Australian gold prospector/insect exterminator. Sorry about this Keith guy, mate. He's been nothing but trouble for a few years now.
Worser: "Speaking of bugs" (the wannabe Mr. Segue strikes out), Brian Sussman, host of "The Suss-Man Show" on Talk Radio KSFO 560 AM in San Francisco (which is on at the very moment I type this). Picture of Sussman stolen from station's website. How dare he criticize, even in jest that gets taken out of context by blue blogs, the almighty Obama! And how dare he call this God "dude." "Got news for you, DUDE. Obama said he was a (looking at paper): 'proud citizen of the United States and a fellow citizen of the world.' (Looking back up): And the last guy who said something like that, (back to paper): 'I speak today as both a citizen of the United States and of the world,' (back up): Ronald Reagan." Keithy grins and laughs as he says, "Cool, a conservative too stupid to realize he just called Reagan the antichrist...(bellowing): DUDE." The sophomoric staff laughs.
Vice President Cheney: Merkle cites Seymour Hirsch. Oh, no. Cheney wants to provoke a war with Iran. Nobody wants to provoke anything. We're trying desperately to avoid that happening. I'm saying this is Mike C. A war with Iran would turn 60% of the world against us, and of course, Israel. I don't want that. But if all options had been exhausted and we had no choice, do it. Okay, enough about what I think about world news. Back to Olbermoronn. With an evil smirk, Edward R. Olbermann shifts around in his chair and says, "Can you see this happening in Cheney's office? Sure, you can. Can you Cheney getting all worked up and almost smiling? Sure, you can. Can you see where they get to the part about Americans being killed and you can't do that and just...stares at them all and says...'So?'" Then, came that ending flourish.
Could you see Ed Murrow doing that? Eric Sevareid? Robert Trout? John Chancellor? David Brinkley? Of course not! If Keith Olbermann is an anchor or a journalist, then so is Mike Malloy. I was going to say Howard Stern, but I think Howard has more class than Herr Olbermahn. I could be wrong.
Katy Turic:
Paul Krugman and Olby bash drilling
Two trillion barrels aren't worth filling?
Would last hundreds of years
No dependency fears
But the moonbats simply aren't willing
And that's The Hour of Spin for this, the 816th day since the declaration that "Karl Rove will in fact be indicted".
Great thanks to our OlbyWatch recappers who contributed!
CORRECTION 1: "I mean this *as* Mike C."
CORRECTION 2: "'Can you see Cheney getting all worked up...'"
And it's Rep. Bill Jefferson. Thankfully, not a Senator.
I had to see it to believe it but Johnny Dollar has some budding competition nipping at his heels. :)
Kudos to you all!
Thank you, Grammie. It's a labor of dislike for me, but very tedious, as I said in another comment thread on here.
De nada, Mike C.
The thought has crossed my mind, briefly, a few times to give it a whirl myself. I always come instantly to my senses b/c I can't stomach either the sight or sound of him for more then a few minutes and I couldn't do it justice anyway.
Neither can I, but I have to help pick up the recapping tab, even if only for a segment or two.
In reference to the opening spiel, is it my imagination or is it getting longer and longer?
Also, when he started the show he had one or two guests for the whole evening but now he has one for every segment. I think Olbermann is getting lazier and lazier. More guests means less he has to write and it's clear he's turning a lot of that writing over to staff. You can tell because he has that deer-in-headiights look when he sees something on the teleprompter for the first time.
Olby could have been Goebbel's wing man of Nazi propaganda.
I'm glad that O-watch is farming out some of the work to it's loyal bloggers. It must be excrutiatingly difficult to watch this carnival barker every night and then have to write a detailed recap.
Plus, you have to track all the lies, the lists and document.
I don't envy you guys, but the work is truly appreciated.
What's so ironic about the accusation that the McCain campaign would try to scare folks by saying he doesn't look like those other presidents is that someone actually did say that. It wasn't a conservative, it wasn't a Republican, it wasn't a Fox reporter.
"I know that I don't look like the Americans who've previously spoken in this great city. The journey that led me here is improbable. My mother was born in the heartland of America, but my father grew up herding goats in Kenya. His father - my grandfather - was a cook, a domestic servant to the British."
Do you think Obama was telling the Germans he doesn't look Irish?-)
Oh my, McCain has taken a swipe at a broad swath of the leftist blogosphere and it makes me chuckle....
"That the Times made this allegation in a blog post rather than running it on the editorial page indicates that they either knew the charge was bogus or they didn’t have the nerve to make their case in full view of the public. But in their new role as bloggers, the paper’s editors seem to have all the intelligence and reason of the average Daily Kos diarist sitting at home in his mother’s basement and ranting into the ether between games of dungeons and dragons. They also have about as much care for the facts–the 'board' has already been forced to append a correction."
###
Oh my. Remember, we can include someone we all know and love in that group at DailyKos....A kookey leftist diarist and commentor....The infamous Keith Olbermann!
This is becoming very entertaining!
