In a Divisive Campaign, Purple Becomes the New Neutral
By ERIC WILSON, NYTimes, Fashion & Style
Keith Olbermann, the commentator on MSNBC, has worn solid pale purple ties twice in the last week. And on Tuesday, he wore another one with purple stripes. Lester Holt, the weekend anchor of NBC Nightly News, appeared on camera in a more vibrant shade, approaching magenta. Over on Fox News, pretty much the polar opposite on the political spectrum, Bill O’Reilly was in shiny grape, and Kelly Wright, an anchor of “Fox and Friends Weekend,” showed that purple is bipartisan.
Is a color that represents the middle ground between Republican Red and Democratic Blue a sartorial statement of objectivity?
“Purple is the new neutral,” said Jim Moore, the creative director of GQ...

The Ridiculous Assertion That Ties Say Anything Significant About a News Man
Know what you get when you spot isolated instances of various television personalities wearing a tie of a certain color? A Times trend story! Eric Wilson spotted folks like Brian Williams, Keith Olbermann, and Bill O’Reilly all wearing ties of a purplish hue in recent weeks, which is apparently their way of announcing they’re staying neutral in this heated political climate...
There are some great KO-butt kicking gems in those Daily Kos comments. Once you work your way past the ubiquitous KO-speaks-truth-to-power nonsense you'll find some clear thinkers:
"He is not a real journalist
He is a counter to the Right's non-stop crap on every other channel, but that is it.
Did Tom Brokaw or Dan Rather ever have a "Worst Person In the World Segment?" Are such segments objective?
Think about it. Expecting anything out of Keith besides entertainment and relief that someone on TV is not a right-wing talking head, is stupid.
And I do watch his show, religiously. But I don't expect him to act like a real journalist."
Some are angry, but many are filled with disappointment and disiilusion - yep, that's KO.
But then you have poor JoanMar:
"I am very reluctant to criticize Keith. He has been too good to my heart." Just plain sappy.
Hey ktt, saw those Daily Kos "gems"...some of the other KO lovefest blogs didn't even cover the Milbank story. BTW, thanks for finding the Katy Tur(d) video from CW11. I left you a comment on that thread, but it was a few days ago you may have missed it (Thanks again):

Thanks ktt for finding that nugget. That CW11 website only, for some strange reason, I can only watch 2 or 3 videos, then it just craps out on me.
God, she is so bad, couple of flubs in a piece that was only 1:20 total! Plus she says PON-TEE-ACK like she has no idea what she is talking about, but wants to make sure everyone knows its 3 syllables. You'd think after all these months she would start getting better. Maybe, like Olby, she's not a morning person and live reporting is not her forte. That was from the CW11 morning show and she sure didn't look very good, her hair was on the greasy side. Plus her wardrobe looks like it could belong to Olbermann's mother---very matronly & cheap.
Thanks for pointing out the MLB male dancer's story, although I can not get the visual of a "dancing, big bellied shirtless hairy Olbermann" out of my head! I think I just threw up in my mouth...teehee...
ktt, what surprises me is that you used that quote at 1:46 PM from the 'clear thinker' on KOS, because that particular commenter (whom you apparently agreed with yourself), is EXACTLY right!
It amazes me that so many people on this site seem to take the WPITW segment so seriously when it was obviously never mean't to be taken that seriously. It also amazes me that KO haters seem to think that very many of his watchers think of him as a "real journalist".....we don't. That said, how many "real jounalists" anchor cable TV nighttime shows?
Check out the poster's first and last comments without focusing on WPiTW.
"He is not a real journalist. He is a counter to the Right's non-stop crap on every other channel, but that is it."
and
"But I don't expect him to act like a real journalist."
When KO started the show in 2003 he actually anchored a newscast that was informative but yet added a bit of fun. Somewhere along the way he lost his mind and sold his soul for ratings. When asked he says he is a newsman, not a commentator.
The WPiTW segment came later and I've never cared for it. I understand it is not to be taken seriously but it often exudes KO's petty jeaolusies. I am actually embarrassed for him, or at least I was when I used to watch.
Get ready for a slow seething jealous filled Keify burn. NBC announced it's convention coverage crew and Luke Russert will be covering the "youth" vote. Remember when Olbermann mentioned DURING the Russert funeral coverage how he envied Luke getting to go on field with his dad at AllStar Games back in the late 90s. Of course he'll publically say how great it will be to work with Luke. That has got to drive Olby nuts, his own father hating sports and all, and having such a tortured broadcasting career where no one "helped" him, but at least he got his own "girl" a job...
Even better, Olby came in third in the all-important-stupendous-best-thing-ever-DEMO last night...ouch!
How did you guys miss this nutty story?

Not too many!
mikeh, do you remember what happens every time you try to speak for anyone besides yourself? You get bit.
MikeH - so glad you agree with me.
