On June 13, 2008 Tom Brokaw came on the air to announce the startling news that NBC News Washington Bureau chief Tim Russert had collapsed and died. Just ten weeks later, as we witness the near total collapse of the last vestiges of credibility at NBC News, it was worth remembering Brokaw's sign off that sad spring day:
"This news division will not be the same without his strong clear voice...he'll be missed as he was loved...greatly."
Brokaw could not have imagined then how swift would be the fall.
I remember when Russert gave us a classic TV moment with his election-night whiteboard. Now NBC has degenerated to featuring the arrogant Herr Olbytard trying to have Brokaw thrown off the MSNBC election coverage, getting his loon lackeys to get Scarborough fired and picking fights with The Drooler. Brokaw is right - Russert is sorely missed.
With Russert hosting Meet the Press, the NBC elite could always forgive that little MSNBC show attracting attention among the blue blogs. "Let Olby stir controversy", they would say. "He'll gain us a bit of ratings we've otherwise been missing for years. It may be embarrassing to our network standards, but it's only the minor leagues. Russert is our man. He is the face of NBC. Any criticism from our sister station can be deflected by the very mention of his name."
Jump to the afternoon of June 13th, and the NBC elite begin shaking in their boots. There is no credibility beyond Russert.
Their loose cannon, Il Duce Olby, who was never reigned in before Russert's untimely demise, is inevitably becoming the face of NBC. With Brokaw more or less resigned, Russert was the only check and balance remaining for that rag tag group over at MSNBC.
Now that he's gone, it has become a free-for-all with Olby as ring leader. Shuster kicking at his heels. Abrams completing under the radar the full tack of the ship to the far left. Mathews climbing on board for the attention he thinks he deserves.
The NBC elitists are cowards, unable to stop the steamrolling circus that has since employed Air America at 9PM, and is currently aimed at extinguishing the last remaining center-right voice in Scarborough.
If The Goon only had a measure of humility, he would realize the vileness and immaturity of his actions.
ESPN taught him the wrong lesson. His foul temper and moronic, bridge-burning behavior that led to his resignation, did not result in a more refined, mild-mannered, and humble Olbermann. No. Instead it lead to a nastier version that realized that the uncouth, childish antics would have been better spent if channeled into fascist destruction of any and all differing opinions so that he, and he alone, would rest upon the heap, while the easily-manipulated, morally-confused masses (re: blue blogs) yip in his approval.
What a sad day it was when Russert passed away. In more ways than his family could have imagined.

Read Jossip this AM. They say that Phil Griffin is trashing Olby behind his back. If he loses his biggest fan there then what?
