Remember those stories in June about how Olbermann was "beating" O'Reilly. TVN and the usual left-wing flacks trumpeted the news, the blue blogs rejoiced, Keith cancelled his vacation plans and the mainstream press ran yet another series of celebratory articles on the incipient rise of Keith Olbermann. But a funny thing happened along the way. Just don't expect to hear much about it from these same sources.
When not getting a boost from media and blog hype for his oh-so-special comments, Keith's ratings have been tanking and last night Keith took a particularly bad drubbing at the hands of his nemesis, Bill O'Reilly. BOR doubled KOs numbers in the demo and more than tripled his number in total viewers.
Read it and weep Keif.
Live ratings (All / 25-54)
O'Reilly ( 2.0 / 0.4)
Olbermann ( 0.6 / 0.2)
Live+same day DVR (all / 25-54)
O'Reilly (2.1 / 0.5)
Olbermann ( 0.6/ 0.2)
Live ratings by household (all / 25-54)
O'Reilly (1,856,000 / 443,000)
Olbermann (490,000 / 196,000)
As noted in the comments, for those scoring at home, Countdown managed to lose half its audience in one night - over 600,000 viewers. The drop is so steep that it bears some explanation from someone.
i have a question,,, arent we helping the fat liar's ratings when we watch. i believe cable companies provide that info now. how can i bear witness to the douche baggery and not contribute to viewership? i want to be able skewer this assh*le without providing ratings help. ???
Dont worry. A mayday message will be sent out via KOS to all left wing nuts to tune in. His numbers will go back up from pitiful to just sucky.
He even finished behind Nancy Grace.
Time for another special comment.
Wednesday Aug 6th
8PM - P2+ (25-54) (35-64)
The O’Reilly Factor- 2,376,000 viewers (489,000) (904,000)
CNN Election Center– 575,000 viewers (184,000) (317,000)
Countdown w. Olbermann – 662,000 viewers (224,000) (312,000)
On the Money -130,000 viewers (a scratch with 25,000) (57,000)
Nancy Grace – 994,000 viewers (440,000) (544,000)
Tuesday, August 5th
8PM - P2+ (25-54) (35-64)
The O’Reilly Factor- 2,329,000 viewers (481,000) (776,000)
CNN Election Center– 659,000 viewers (270,000) (396,000)
Countdown w. Olbermann – 1,289,000 viewers (425,000) (621,000)
On the Money -120,000 viewers (a scratch with 33,000) (72,000)
Nancy Grace – 891,000 viewers (345,000) (491,000)
That's quite a difference. Wednesday is half of what Tuesday brought in. And Tuesday's numbers are more in line with the norm for Olbyboy. I'm thinking something is amiss with the Wednesday numbers. I'm really ok, if that isn't the case, as I'd love to see this guys numbers drop off in a dramatic and permanent way. One can only hope.

Take *that*, Keith! Hopefully, tonight won't make for a rebound. (God forbid.)
spearrule, in regards to your question it is what I've been saying all along about this anti-American asshole. Don't watch as it can only help his ratings.
The powers that be that run that communist station don't care whether you like him or not, as long as you watch him. I have watched his show once because in flicking the channels I remembered him when he did his espn show, and decided to watch the whole show hoping that his condescending and obnoxious ways had left him.
In watching that day I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing, and it was hard for me to believe that he actually got worse than he was with espn. The same olbermann, but he added a new twist with his lies and distortions towards everything that is good about America.
One full show was enough, and after that I found this site to see if I was the only one understanding all that is bad about this traitor, and thankfully I wasn't alone...not by a long shot.
So the answer to your question is YES, it helps this commie and his commie station so do yourself and all true Americans a favor by never watching. Let Johnny and Robert do the suffering for all of us, and you won't have to get sick to your stomach every night...
I found Olbermann's next WPITW.
This right wing war monger was planted at a Michelle Obama campaign stop.

Wolverine: "communist station"...........................LMAO!
I hope you keep right on calling people "commies" and "traitors" for committing the MORTAL sin of disagreeing with you and your personal standards for patriotism and nationalism. I say yell it from the highest hill! ...... Then go get yourself a megaphone and continue to yell these ridiculous cliches at passing traffic. It will only help get Obama elected that much more easily, as "clear thinking" Americans run away from such RW radicalism.
That said, I would argue that Fox actually comes much closer to meeting the literal historical standard of a "commie" network in that they have been practically a mouthpiece for the White House at times......much the way the former Tass and Pravda were once the official mouthpieces of their repressive "commie" regime.
Actually Olbermann and MSDNC are closer related to the Nazi party in Germany and MikeH is either a useful idiot or a collaborator.
What is it with you Mike H? Can't except the fact that somebody would DARE to disagree with your Lord and Master olbermann, and therefore that person must be a rw?
olbermann, the one "man" you defend hour after hour, and he'd be the first to throw you under the bus the second you said you joined the army to defend your country. This is your hero, and who you call a patriot.
Wake up bro, and understand that the one guy I attack all the time is this commie asshole. Not you, and not people who disagree with me...just him. Then again if you have some homo affiliation with him then there's no talking to you.
I know plenty of liberals who feel the same way I do, so it's not about disagreeing to me, as it's all about deluded love and affection from you for a "man" who either purposely says what he says to get a rise out of anybody who wastes their time listening to him, or it's because he hates America. Either way he's our generations Mata Hari...

word up...
I caught the opening spiel tonight and saw Jimmy Legs make fun of Rudy's lisp. Sure hope E.J. Dionne wasn't watching tonight, Keith!
How's it going, Mike? (For those unfamiliar, I'm making small talk with Mike and refraining from debating.)
Mike,
I hope you don't feel "repressed" by Bush.
But let us not forget that Dana Milbank was basically kicked off of Olby Island for saying something that the host did not agree with. That's repression, is it not?
Anyone know if BOR was attacked? I can sense an attack tomorrow night because he promoted the big ratings win we're talking about here.
Dan Patrick was on to talk football with Keith. Howard Cosell Olbermann is only on his game when it comes to sports. I think we're all aware of that by now.
You got it all wrong Wolverine. You want to know 'what's up with me'.....even though I told you "whats up" ith me about 50 times now. You just refuse to listen.
As for me 'defending' Olbermann.....I would gladly defend ANYONE against being branded a "traitor" for no other sin than expressing contrary viewpoints in this great country, whose most notable freedom happens to be the FIRST amendment......It also amuses me how you seem completely unable to understand that the purest form of patriotism manifests itself in the form of Americans expressing divergent views about what they believe is best for America.
That said, you also seem blissfully blind to the fact that every time you call Keith Olbermann a "traitor", you are ALSO calling millions of other like-minded Americans who are every bit as patriotic as you are "TRAITORS" as well.
I think the more pertinent question is;....what's up with YOU?
I can assure you of one thing for sure Mike that there is definitely not ONE...I mean, not ONE... other like-minded human on this planet that thinks and acts like olbermann.
Like I said, ALL my liberal friends agree with my thoughts on him to a T, so that makes for a lot of people, as EVERY conservative in this country also feels the same way, who understand what this traitor is all about, but you can be that one in a million (outside of his stooges that join him on his show) who feels he's for America.
"Rico: Mike, I hope you don't feel repressed by Bush."
PERSONALLY repressed....no! But has the country been repressed.....absolutely!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rico: "Let us not forget that Dana Millbank was kicked off of Olby Island for saying something the host did not agree with. Is that not repression?"
Not unless you believe your own boss would be guilty "repressing" you for not allowing you to verbally trash HIS company while working on HIS premises.....Or unless you believe the president is guilty of "repression" by firing HIS own press secretary for trashing his policies.
Sorry Rico....but an analogy comparing how a TV host chooses who will appear on his show to whether the president of the Undited States chooses to honor the Constitution or not.....is just plain silly.
BTW, and this really is entirely beside the point.....but Millbank was "fired" for refusing to clarify using an out of context quote that left out a critical lead-in sentence which effectively changed it's entire meaning to the opposite of what the speaker was actually saying.
You can't be serious using an analogy comparing
hmm..Bad news about KO's ratings and bam!! heres MikeH to try to change the subject..I couldn't help notice he didn't comment on any of the postings about the Milbank affair..guess even he can't spin that away. LOL!!!
As for KO's ratings as I commented on in the past...his ratings like other things involving KO cant's be kept up without a little help..such as his"Special Comments"where he has to get the Daily Kos crowd to remind people too watch (if he had such a strong and loyal fanbase he wouldn't need to beg them to watch with the S.C. gimick)..but like other things in his life KO can't keep it up for long and sure enough everything droops down again untill the next artificial boost..in fact I think we should start calling "Special Comments" KO's little blue pill that he needs to "keep up" with O'Reilly. LOL!!!
And I'm still holding to my prediction that after the Election and the end of the Bush term that KO will not have the ratings he had..because if it's Lord Obama no one will turn in to nightly Obama butt kissing from KO and if it's McCain he won't be able to tape into the same level of hate because it just won't be there..so all he'll really have will be tired rehashed attacks on O'Reilly and FOX news....New Murrow indeed.
BTW, and this really is entirely beside the point.....but Millbank was "fired" for refusing to clarify using an out of context quote that left out a critical lead-in sentence which effectively changed it's entire meaning to the opposite of what the speaker was actually saying. MikeH
Sort of like how KO misquoted O'Reilly and changed what he really said (again)then wouldn't have the guts to admit it?..if Milbank deserved to be fired then shouldn't KO?...New Murrow indeed.
Okay, Mike, I'm about to do my WPitW recap. Please do not take me personally. Any wisecracks I say are all in the spirit of regular recaps. Here goes.
In the Media Matters Minute, Worse was some minor league umpire. Worser was Glenn Beck. "Parroting the latest GOP..." It was there that I paused the video and skipped ahead. As Glenn said back in March, as was documented at OlbyWatch, "it much easier just to read the transcript using a funny voice, you know, something that I'm sure Olbermann's hero, Edward R. Murrow, would approve of. Oh! There, did I just do it again? I just used sarcasm. I am so sorry. So I can clarify for the blogs, Edward R. Murrow would have despised Keith Olbermann. Clear enough?" (I went back to my WAVE file of the CNN video of the segment to transcribe that.)
Worst was Rudy Giuliani. Unflattering image of Giuliani used. This was based on his two-segment appearance on "Fox and Friends" this morning. Lunatic fringers! [ding!] Paranoid fantasies! Oralmann says China isn't "drilling off the Florida coast." Speedy, Daffy Duck-esque voice used for the Mayor. What a guy, that Olbermoronn. After reading "this makes no sense," Edward R. Olbermann appears on screen with a sinister grin and says this: "Well, the last part is right. You don't...n-n-n-make no sense at all. And if we need to listen to anyone when he admits he is making no sense, that man is...(flipping papers to his left)...Rudy Giuliani! Today's...Wortht...Person...(swallowing in the wake of that lispy 'Worst')...in the World!"
Well Wolverine, all I can say is that "ALL" your "liberal friends" obviously aren't as "liberal" as you seem think they are.
And if you are arguing that EVERY conservative" marches in lock step with you, I beg to differ with you on that as well.....and I think most conservatives would probably take exception to that premise as well.
When people like you stop calling people you disagree with "commies" and "traitors".......you will be taking your first steps toward understanding what America is REALLY all about.......as well as your first step being taken seriously yourself.
I meant to type "it's much easier".
Mlong, I almost commented on the ratings earlier, but doing that really seemed rather silly in light of the FACT that KO's ratings have been quite impressive lately.....and it's a little bit funny how this site chose to pounce on Olbermann's first off-night in a while.
I wasn't 'changing the subject' at all....I just think raising the subject at all is a little silly under the circumstances.
That said, your analogy questioning why KO shouldn't have been fired from his OWN show for using an out of context quote dissing another TV host, to a 'firing' a guest on his show........was pretty silly as well! Both KO and BO have every right to choose who does and doesn't appear on their show....or why.
It looks like Keith was busy posting at Kos during his show again.
http://tinyurl.com/5wayh5
He must be READING at Kos DURING the show, too, and WRITING DIARIES also. (No wonder the show is so boring - even he's not paying attention to what's going on). He's a bit put out that someone beat him (the ace reporter) to the story of Clinton speaking at the convention.
New Murrow indeed.
Back to Giuliani for a minute. I went back to my DVR recording (in HD, no less) to see the part that was cited by Merkle. What he won't tell you is that Rudy said he was for *all* energy options, including alternative, not just offshore drilling.
Mike H, I see you've learned from your master in the art of spinning a point, as I never said that every conservative marches with me in my thoughts, but as I said only towards what olbermann is all about. I think if you've ever read the comments made here daily about the anti-American they certainly aren't disagreeing with me.
As a matter of fact I haven't heard one positive thing to say about this coward, and even you would have to agree that this is a conservative site. So now that you have been totally destroyed once again I'll move on to your other inane comments.
As for "commies" and "traitors" once again, as usual, you've spun it to appear you were making a valid point as I never said that I call everybody who disagrees with me (you come to mind) this term, only olbermann, because he does a lot more than disagree with my philosophies, as his distortions of the truth in every way disagrees with what America is all about. His lies and daily slander is NOT the American way as you seem to think it is, as it is nothing more than a way for him to gain points for his vile agenda.
And last, but certainly not least, if you feel for one second I am trying to be taken seriously from the likes of someone who absolutely adores the ground this anti-American walks on you are grossly underestimating my intentions with every comment I've ever made on this site. I would have a better chance of convincing a ho that I lost my wallet during the act, than to convince you of anything negative towards your anti-American hero...
By MikeH on August 7, 2008 10:34 PM
"...for using an out of context quote dissing another TV host,..."
Please confirm that the above is how you wish to describe a highly acclaimed professional journalist and network election coverage host quoting on air a false accusation made by a dishonest blog that ridicules, not just "another TV host," but his time slot competitor who continually whips his butt in the ratings, and by doing so, literally lies in his accusation that his direct competitor did not know what he was talking about and was incapable of grasping the facts in an on air report and needed to be corrected by a guest proving the incompetence of his competitor, who garners the highest rating in his time slot night after night, when, in reality, it is the accuser, the ridiculer, the highly acclaimed professional journalis and network election coverage host who did not know what he was talking about and failed to grasp the facts and proved his own incompetence and refuses to admit and correct his mistake.
If that is your wish, please turn in your brain for repair or replacement as it is clearly not functioning.
Sorry MikeH....Patriotism is not holding views that would lead to policies that destroy the very foundations of our country. The anti-American left, which you and Olbermann voice support for, hold ideologies that are wrong for America both socially and economically, and seek to change Constitutional, foundational structures that have served our people well for over 200 years. In addition, the left has consistently shown their willingness to abandon people struggling for freedom and democracy across the globe in return for nothing of more value than their domestic political and personal power. No thank you.
Your and Olbermann's paranoid and unsupported delusions regarding Presdient Bush, John McCain, the war against radical islamic terrorism and its goal of totalitarianism are wrong. They are fringe, leftist conspiracy theories that belong in the trash. The leftist political elite, which is now lead by Obama, Pelosi and Reid, cynically use the energy formed from those crazy conclusions to give themselves influence, power, money and a neverending supply of hubris. The radical left elite use these base, crass political manipulations to forward an out-of-mainstream agenda.
I am not a right-winger....I do not believe that people like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity speak for me....You, however have shown your devotion to the far left-wing by believing everything Keith Olbermann spews nightly....HE IS NO BETTER THAN RUSH LIMBAUGH.
So please, stop whining about someone calling you and your anti-American leftists unpatriotic....At one time the left was at least honest about their real views and being proud of the country was not one of them.
Regarding besmurching other's patriotism, you are just as guilty of doing it as is Mr. Olbermann regarding others they view as wrong on the issues....No problem, call me and others unpatriotic, we who support John McCain, George Bush and their clear record for defending freedom here and around the globe, even resulting in their own personal sacrifice. Please show me where Obama has shown a clear record in defending freedom that meant a diminishment in his own personal self!
The other difference in my mind is IDEOLOGY, and Olbermann shows his radicalism everynight with his bomb-throwing rhetoric that only serves to stoke the fires of hatred and intolerance on the left....Just like Rush does every afternoon on the radio....You defend the hack!
Shame.

"...the purest form of patriotism manifests itself in the form of Americans expressing divergent views about what they believe is best for America."
Mike, your above statement is preposterous. It's patriotic to use your rights? Nonsense.
According to this definition of "the purest form of patriotism" there wasn't much patriotism during WW II. I don't remember anybody saying "Why do we think we can change the world with our bombs?". Didn't happen. Where were the patriots during WW II?
So an American of today can say "Death to the Infidels!!!" and that, according to your definition, must also be an expression of "the purest form of patriotism".
I think not, Mike!
Hey Rico....Those Confederates sure were patriotic! I wonder if there would be a United States of America if MikeH's definition of patriotism was in place since the founding?
Sure.....you have a deluded, wrong-headed and even destructive view of the policies, laws and governance of our people?....You're PATRIOTIC while you spout lies, half-truths, "fact" that is really opinion that erodes the basic principles and ideas that unify us all as a people!....NO PROBLEM!
Olbermann was comment on the Daily Kos AT the SAME time his Countdown guest, Craig Crawford, was talking (according to the fangirls at Blogging Olbermann---WARNING: the other comments the "girls" gushing over the Dan Patrick visit, have your barf bag ready):
"The show was pretty good tonight, but did anyone notice that Keith was typing whenever Craig Crawford was talking? He was submitting comments to the Daily Kos. That was rude for him to be that dismissive of his guest. I hope he doesn’t do that again, but if I hear typing again, I’ll be straight over to D/Kos to see what he’s saying.
Anyway, it was rude."

And for those who feel it is not cogent, please explain this little piece of hypocrisy.....
"Of course. I mean, for a lot of Americans -- including the family that I grew up with, I mean, it's fundamental to how you judge people and human character -- whether you keep your word, whether you keep what is your ultimate word, which is that you love your spouse, and you'll stay with them. ... I think the most important qualities in a president in today's world are trustworthiness -- sincerity, honesty, strength of leadership. And -- and certainly that goes to a part of that."
JOHN EDWARDS TO CBS NEWS' KATIE COURIC
###
Oh my, one of the many hypocritical democrat party elities prepared to lead our nation! Now when a leftist decides to make fun of a Republican for their stumble, they will think about one of their great moral crusaders who cheated on his cancer stricken wife....A man who is as sure of his moral place in the universe to impose all sorts of policy on his fellow Americans as his party's nominee, SNOBamessiah!
Oh, the arrogance. Oh, the pretense! VERO POSSUMUS!
Ann Coulter hit the nail right on the head with this observation:
"A Washington Post reporter defended the total blackout on the National Enquirer's John Edwards' love child story, telling the Times of London: 'Edwards is no longer an elected official and he is not running for office now. Don't expect wall-to-wall coverage.' This was the perfect guy to talk to because if there's one thing they're careful about in London, it's tabloid excess.
"Isn't there some level of coverage between 'wall-to-wall' and 'double-secret probation, delta-force level total news blackout' when it comes to a sex scandal involving a current Democratic vice presidential and Cabinet prospect?
"Hey, what sort of 'elected official' was Ted Haggard again? He was the Christian minister no one outside of his own parish had ever heard of until he was caught in a gay sex scandal last year. Then he suddenly became the Pope of the Protestants. And yet, despite the fact that Haggard was not an 'elected official,' the Post gave that story wall-to-wall coverage. And what sort of "elected officials" were Mel Gibson, Rush Limbaugh and Bill Bennett?"

Will there be puppet theater over this tonight, with laughs and snikering, on COUNTDOWN?
Cee,
No doubt Mike is feverishly trying to come up with an answer for me. I won't hold my breath waiting for an answer.
I notice that Edwards dumped this at the moment Limbaugh's show went off the air for the week. Coincidence? Also for the record, last nights 'News Hour' Meltdown with Keith Olbermann, KEITHS CREEPIEST MOMENT: Keef mocking Giulianni's speech impediment. The Edward R Murrow Tradition lives on!
Off topic. Mr Cox , the picture in the top left " meet your meat" ad is a bit startling when this site comes up. Is it just me or does it grab the eye for all the wrong reasons?
According to the latest BillOReilly.com newsletter, Miss Ann will be a guest on "The Factor" next week. The letter didn't say what day, but it's better watch her on "The Factor" than "Hannity and Colmes," where the Colmes part is more auditorally pleasing than the Hannity part. (I'm sorry; Sean is a great guy, and yes, he *is* a Great American.)
MSNBC......More Slanted News By Communists. I CAN'T WAIT to see how Olbydouche handles the Edwards news. It's virtually IMPOSSIBLE for this not to be his top three stories tonight. I'm actually going to tune in at 8:00. This is f@#king delicious. Call your shot Orangemann!!!
HA! HA!HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!
During the Favre traded to the Jets segment Thur nite, Dan Patrick said something I had to think about to try to determine what he was talking about. I'm still not sure...
Patrick to Whatzhizname about 38 year-old Favre trying to play QB in a stadium that is not condusive to the aerial game:
"...and you (KO) certainly know what it's like trying to complete a pass at the Meadowlands..."
Rico @ 10:13 AM on 8/8: "No doubt Mike is feverishly trying to come up with an answer for me"
No Rico....Contary to your wildest fantasies, I often go for days without even looking at this site these days, .... as I just did since your posts.
Now, regarding your WW11 points you were trying to make:
1 - If you want to continue deluding yourself that today's situation is in ANY way analogeous to the 2nd World War, I can't stop you....but it is purely delusional on your part to continue to believe such a thing.
2 - Your statement that you "don't remember anyone saying" anything during WW11 is silly to the extreme, because we both know you weren't there. Neither was I, but my father was certainly a veteran of that war, as well as the two minor wars that followed it, and I can assure you that desent was certainly alive and well during both the Vietnam and the Korean Wars.
3 - Your refence to the Confederacy is equally silly. Where the Confederacy crossed the line between patriotism and treason is when they chose to MILITARILY defy the authority of the Federal Government by attempting to succeed from the Union. That said, speaking out for what you believe best for your country is NEVER unpatriotic.....nor is it EVER "un-American". However, I could easily argue that it might well be unpatriotic to argue the opposite. Essentially Rico, whether you understand this or not, what you are seem to be arguing for is the abolishment or suspension of the First Amendment.
4 - Ironically Rico, most of you beliefs as I understand them seem to center on Nationalism masquarading as patriotism. Trust me, there is a WORLD of difference between the two concepts!
Try again Rico, because your arguments present NO challenge whatsoever.
secede
