This is the recappers' comment thread for Countdown, October 1 2008.
Welcome to You Write the Recap 2.0. This is a special thread for you to post your comments on tonight's Hour of Spin. Note everything salient: smears, distortions, bias, lies, the works. Watch the first showing, the repeat, or view the videos at the Countdown website.
We'll go through the comments, organize them, and the best will form the nucleus of our official OlbyWatch Recap. That will be posted separately, later tonight, for maximum visibility and impact. We need your help documenting the shameless "journalism" of Keith "Man on Fan" Olbermann.
Be an Olbermann Watch blogger--without all the muss and fuss! Comments are open: post your analysis of tonight's Hour of Spin here, and watch for your insights later tonight in the official OlbyWatch Recap.
Shoulda mentioned this last night, but the one part I saw was "Bushed" about his "50 running scandals." Every time I've seen it, Olby has made-up 3 "-gates" but last night it was just one. Running out of things to make up, Jimmy Legs?
Richard Wolfe is growing as gray as Olbermann. The years of playing KO's yes man are taking their toll as he sells his soul.
Usually KO's "interviews" are mutual agreement sessions but he knows nothing about economics so Krugman gets to go his own direction.
KO ays McCain would put "cronies" in his cabinet. I am shocked. That has never been done before. It's not as if anyone put a relative in a cabinet before either. Oh, yeah, there was that Kennedy as AG.
The good news is I'm back from South Florida, where I was rarely on the computer. The bad news is I don't know if I feel up to recapping. What should I expect in WPitW?
Great Thanks - you crack me up when you call him Jimmy Legs. I confess, I have my immature moments.
Uh, KO, if you're going to consistently trash McCain and quote him as "berating himself" for a past campaign action, why did you think he was a good choice for pres, in fact your favorite at one time, coming from your own mouth on the Dan Patrick Show. Sounds like a flip flop to me and you're in no shape to be doing acrobatics.
Good to see you, Mike C. The place is falling apart without you and your recaps.
I have no idea about WPitW but I think a dog that doesn't bark will be the Gwen Ifil Obama book coming out at inauguration time. She has no economic interest in this election, does she?
Bash McCain CHECK
Bash Palin CHECK
Bash Bush CHECK
Bash FoxNews CHECK
Bash O'Reilly CHECK
Even for a slack-jawed hack like Olbermoronn, dishing out the same pile of crap every night must be tiresome.
Had just switched over for a second and saw that Bill O won his umpteenth times 100 WPitW.
It's the same tired shtick every night
Kountdown is like Daily Kos Lite
Olby's news source
Where he's blogger de force
During Kountdown he posts to that site
Olbermann didn't show the newest Obama children's song.

In that case, I'll resume tomorrow night. Just take it for granted that Keith "Man on Fan" Olbermann lied his way through the entire attack. I've lost track of what number attack we're up to. Was he named Monday or last night?
On second thought, I'd better do it tonight. Stand by.
In the opening spiel Jimmy Legs (for you, ktt!) mentioned an interview where McCain had a "meltdown." The short clip he then showed didn't show any McCain meltdown, just a smart-ass answer to a question. I missed the actual segment. Was Keith lying again?
The Media Matters Minute featured O'Reilly Attack #514. I missed #513 last night while I was in South Florida. If my blue blog hunch is any indication, #513 something about the Ashley Judd/women's privacy commentary in Monday's Reality Check.
Worse was Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa). I don't feel like recapping this.
Worser was Brian Wilson. This, either.
Worst was O'Reilly Attack #514. Blue blog source: Media Matters, duh. http://mediamatters.org/items/200810010009?f=h_latest
As I watched last night's Body Language Segment, I knew something Mr. Bill said would be taken out of context. http://tinyurl.com/4x2964
"You know who used to do that--who practiced for hours before making a speech? And I'm not making any comparison here. So, don't...you crazy left-wing websites out there, not a comparison. Adolf Hitler."
So, the alarm bells went off in Commissioner Brock's office. He quickly flashed the Bathman symbol, and Bathtub Boy rushed in to lap up everything his blue blog master wrote. The result?
"But our winner, Billo the Clown [Ding!] on with his unqualified cartoon of a quote [Ding!], Body Language expert of his, the one who has the degree in General Studies from Pace University, and who likes to dabble in hypnosis on the side..." Yes, a Tonya Reiman attack, too. Clown! [Ding!] The Ted Baxter voice was used for our misunderstood correspondent. And, get this, a soft-spoken lispy voice was used for our Body Language doyenne. "So, Billo [Ding!] then makes a jump to a conclusion so great, it would set an Olympic record." After another Baxter dramatization that sounded nothing like the actual thing he was quoting, Herr Olbermann pulled out the Bill is Hitler card, uttering two quick sentences followed by a rapidly-spoken sentence that had several commas. "But he's not making any comparison here. This is at least the eighth time in the last four years that he has not made a comparsion to Hitler or the Nazis. He said Al Franken and Michael Moore were like Goebbels in 2004, he said Hitler would be a card-carrying member of the ACLU, he said Congressman Jack Murtha was a Hitler sympathizer, like one anyway, and he said left-wing sites were Nazis in 2005, he said there was no difference between the Nazis and the Daily Kos (Olbermann's blog) website in 2007...(breath)...and then he described *similarities* between Arianna Huffington and Huffington Post to..." A quick glance down to the gotcha paper to reprise Ted Baxter, and..."'Hitler and his cuthroats.' Now, it's Pelosi. But of course, those were not comparisons. So, what I will not do...I will not compare Billo [Ding!] to that part of the anatomy, that as the old joke goes...everybody's got one. Billo the Clown [Ding!]...today's...Worst...Person..." Yes, yes, we all know how it goes.
I didn't miss these recaps for a second while I was in Palm Beach and Broward Counties (Wexler and Hastings country).
Here's my full transcription of the part in question:
O'REILLY: You know who used to do that--who practiced for hours before making a speech? And I'm not making any comparison here. So, don't...you crazy left-wing websites out there, not a comparison. Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler practiced for hours...
REIMAN: Well, he was a non-verbal...yeah.
O'REILLY: ...all of his gestures and everything else when he out there. So, if you practice your gestures, and then you get out there and you screw them up...(laughing)...you should just be natural, right?
The context of the comparison is Nancy Pelosi's gestures never match what she's saying, as was documented the last time she was analyzed in that segment. The video analyzed that time was a CNN interview where she had her both her hands out a la Dick Vitale.
Boy, I ended up doing more than I thought I would tonight.
Correction for Johnny:
After another Baxter dramatization that sounded nothing like the actual thing he was quoting, Herr Olbermann uttered two quick sentences followed by a rapidly-spoken sentence that had several commas, chronicling all of O'Reilly's Nazi comparisons (or at least chronicling whatever his blue blog masters chronicled for him).
Worst Person in the World gold goes to... [Oralmann opens envelope, dusts off powder] ... Bill-O the Clown!!
If only Keith didn't march lock-step in the PC Idiot Brigade, he would realize just how lame his latest O'Reilly attack was (or maybe he does, but just can't tamp his hard-on for all smears O'Reilly).
During one of Bill's body language segments w/ Tonya Reiman, who comes on to analyze subjects' non-verbal communication, he compared the exaggerated hand gestures of Nancy Pelosi during her speech about the $700 billion financial bailout to those of Adolf Hitler. Mind you, this was a comparison of *body language*, not of deeds or personalities. O'Reilly was careful to stipulate that before he made his observation.
But Olby didn't care. He read off a bunch of instances where Bill used Nazi-related references in the past and quipped "but of course those were not comparisons". Just one thing- does anyone remember O'Reilly ever saying that they *weren't*? I checked back on all contexts mentioned by Keith, and would venture to say that, if confronted about it, O'Reilly would probably stand by his references. Except one- No need for Bill to defend this one, it's so weak-
http://thinkprogress.org/2005/11/30/oreilly-murtha-hitler/
One last thing- Oralmann's source, Media Matters, also falsely suggested that this was a smear:
"As Media Matters for America has documented, O'Reilly frequently attacks those with whom he disagrees -- such as the Daily Kos and Huffington Post -- by comparing them to the Nazis."
Did O'Reilly attack Nancy Pelosi? And did he do it because he disagreed with her? If so, about what? And how does it tie in to Adolf Hitler's hand gestures???
