The Cable Gamer has detailed MSNBC's Pro-Obama strategy: Suck up to the Obama Left, and thereby get all the Barack Obama fans to watch as MSNBC-ers (and to a lesser extent, NBC) cheerlead for the O-Man. (That's Obama, not Keith Olbermann, in case you were wondering.) In addition, TCG has noted the unforeseen upside: GE Capital, sister company to MSNBC (as well as to CNBC and NBC) is now on the receiving end of a $139 billion--that's billion with a "b"--federal loan guarantee, as part of the overall Wall Street bailout.
OK, that's the good news for MSNBC.
The bad news is that to implement this strategy, MSNBC had to rely on some loose cannons. Very loose. One such cannon, of course, is Olbermann. And another is Chris Matthews. Any publicly traded corporation--with all the scrutiny, and the presumption of sober seriousness that comes from being the vessel of shareholder ownership--that links its fate to loose cannons will, eventually, find itself blown up.
And Matthews is our case study for today--still busy, as he has been for the past year, trashing Hillary Rodham Clinton.
One can read this item, from The New York Post's "Page Six," and see clear signs of chronic puffing, an early indicator of inevitable inflation, followed by blowing up:
HARDBALL" host Chris Matthews and the other "castratos" at MSNBC shouldn't hold their breath waiting for a Hillary Clinton interview.
Matthews, who once opined that men who supported Clinton were "castratos in the eunuch chorus," forgot the cardinal rule for those who are often mentioned on Page Six - he didn't take a good look around on the Acela train from Philadelphia to Washington Saturday before he started bad-mouthing the New York senator.
An avowed Clinton lover who was sitting next to Matthews reports: "He was in business class wearing a red baseball hat that said Penn on the back, and the fat [bleep] fell asleep on the train and snored with his mouth open."
During the ride to DC, Matthews awoke from his nap. A fellow passenger asked him, "What's the news tomorrow?" - to which Matthews loudly started talking about President-elect Barack Obama possibly picking Hillary as his secretary of state.
"I don't understand it," Matthews bellowed. "Why would he pick her? I thought we were done with the Clintons. She'll just use it to build her power base. It's Machiavellian. And then we'll have Bill Clinton, too. I thought Obama didn't want drama. He's already got [chief of staff Rahm] Emanuel and [transition team leader John] Podesta. He'll have even more drama with her.
"She's just a soap opera. If he doesn't pick her, everyone will say she's been dissed again, we'll have to live through that again."
Now, is it really wise for Matthews to be carrying on the feud against Hillary, even after his man, Obama, has won the nomination and the election? Do the suits at MSNBC, and parents NBC-Universal and GE, really want to keep attacking her--and by implication, all of her supporters? And all of those who don't want to think that a commentator, and his network have been completely captured by one liberal sliver of the population?
The picture of what Matthews actually believes is a bit muddled, however. As "P6" further notes:
Matthews seems to be playing both sides of the fence. The host, who apologized to Clinton last year for claiming she got where she was because "her husband messed around," said on-air last Friday: "Look, I think that since she lost the fight for the nomination, [Clinton] has been not just a good soldier, she has sang the tune of [Obama]. She's been illustrious, she's been admirable . . . her spirit seems to be with him."
A rep for Clinton declined to comment while a rep for Matthews didn't return e-mails.
So which are we to believe, Chris? What you said on the Acela (which squares with what you said on MSNBC air for a year), or what you have said, here and there, since the election? I think that the obvious preponderance of evidence is that Matthews' train talk is the real Matthews.
And that's a problem for MSNBC as it tries to negotiate its way into 2009. Will it be all Obama-olatry all the time? If so, that'll be hard to watch, even for Democrats--especially Hillary Clinton-type Democrats.
And eventually, all those non-Obama Democrats, to say nothing of independents and Republicans, are going to be asking Jeff Immelt, CEO of GE, why the rest of us must subsidize the left-liberalism of GE's MSNBC unit.
GE is a bigger company than MSNBC, and there might well be some non-Obamans inside the corporate structure, although of late, you wouldn't know it.
Cross-posted from The Cable Game
Thanks, TCG. By the way, GE is now The Weather Channel, too, since NBCU bought them earlier this year. They've even adopted that Green is Universal gimmick. What's next? Keith Oralmann appearing on "Abrams & Bettes" or "Evening Edition"?
Has anyone noticed that Olbermann.com re-routes to the John McCain campaign Web site?
Smooth move by MSDNC in trashing Hitlery. Obama has filled his administration with Clinton criminals and the head criminal herself because Obama knows he is unqualified to be President. Now MSDNC will not be able to get an interview with the secretary of state as she funnels government money to her husbands "charity". Oh what fun it will be watching Hitlery undermine Obamanation from her perch in his cabinet.
The Hillary trashing continues even without Olbermann to haul it. David & Richard saying that Hillary is 'conflicted' and adding some snide Bosnia snipers jabs is just more of the same. It's like watching a circular firing-squad. After Clarence Page called himself a 'journalist', I turned to O'Riley.
With no Palin, Bush or McCain
Kountdown is circling the drain
Disastrous rating
With no Sarah hating
Krazy Keith is simply inane
Perhaps this is Chrissy's first go at making sure that this Presidency is a success. Apparently he is pretty sure that it won't happen without him. He is after all the most knowledgeable political expert in the galaxy. Just ask him. I kind of think of him more as the galaxy wide buffoon.
One thing I find kind of interesting about the interplay of egos, etc. on the Misogony channel is the relative comparison of the quality of guests on the shows. I like to watch Joe in the morning. Perhaps it is just my impression or bias, but they get a much higher quality of people on that show than Chrissy or KO combined. That includes both sides of the political spectrum.
Gotta love an informed electorate:

"America47000": "Gotta love an informed electorate:"
I guess you'll be going to your grave comforting yourself with the lie that ignorance elected Obama.
Meanwhile I can't wait to hear the details about what "Joe The Plumber" just said about how McCain undermined Sarah Palin, or something like that. (or we could call it the latest saga of the stupid one criticizing the unstable one on behalf of the uninformed one).
Mike H, Keith Olbermann, and his liberal friends finally have a reason to dislike A-Qeada. A-Qeada used a racial slur against their cult leader Obamanation. Before A-Qeada was doing the bidding of the left by blowing up our troops, but now they have violated speech codes and must be sent to sensitivity training.
Factor, I've changed my mind about you!
You are clearly a sock puppet shilling for the left.
What about all of those people that were questioned in the video mikeH? What's there true objectives? Why didn't they know the answers to the questions? Why were they 99.9% WRONG or didn't know?
I guess you'll be going to your grave comforting yourself with the lie that ignorance elected Obama.
Talk about total ignorance, the vast majority of obama's votes came from the disallusional hopefuls not knowing anything about the guy.
Yes, it's a pretty sad time we live in when YOUR people don't have a clue.
"the lie that ignorance elected Obama"
You know that exit polls showed people with no high school education whatsoever went for Obama at 63%, right? That being the largest percentage of any education demographic?
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/polls/#USP00p1
Now, so you don't throw the following points back in my face, I will say that yes, no HS education is only 4% of the voters. And that Obama won all the education demographics. But if you look at the trending numbers, you'll see that the numbers get more favorable toward McCain as you approach College graduates, who went for Obama 50-48. Then the great paradox of education ... post-grads going for Obama with 58%.
Of course, in my experience those who just stay in school simply fill their head with theories and have no idea how the world works, so many of them are drawn toward policy wonk liberals who want to treat government as a social engineering experiment. Or they are lawyers feasting on the litigious atmosphere fostered by Democrats. Or they're too lazy to get a real job. Or they just lack common sense. Whatever.
The point being that ignorance may not have elected Obama. But it didn't hurt. It just takes a certain kind of stupidity to vote for a Liberal.
But that video was more about how the media misinformed the public (another cog in a system of creating Liberal mouthpieces starting with the union-corrupted public-school system). Like, most voters said the economy was a chief concern, but if the media had done its job the people would have been more informed about how Obama and the Dems had their hands all over some of the key factors that led to the economic collapse.
Instead, people fell back on the knee-jerk reaction of "Bush is the president. Blame him," then somehow applying that to McCain. That's ignorance.
BTW, why are you guys still obsessed with Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin. You know Obama won, right? When he screws up, is it your intention to blame his failures on the governor of Alaska and an unlicensed plumber from Ohio? Good luck with that.
America47000, the video on that site was discussed tonight on "The Factor" in the Policing the Net segment. Also, Jim Ziegler was on "The Radio Factor" this afternoon. I know that the people shown in the video don't represent all Obama voters, but ignorance is never a good thing.
Thanks for pointing these items out America47000.
We've been wondering for the past few weeks why the media (msdnc) has been so infatuated with Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin. My guess is that they were and could be disasterous to the Dems in the near future. You know that they (dems) would never blame someone from their own party now would they?
I really like your line "It just takes a certain kind of stupidity to vote for a Liberal.
That said, I know someone that falls into that category.
A few days before the election there was a lot of play by a local TV station doing Jay Leno kind of person in the street stuff. What they would do was ask someone who they favored in the election. Then they would ask them one or two basic Civics questions. My two favorite were from Messiahs supporters as follows:
Q. Can you tell me the name of the war between the states?
A: World War I. Uh no that's not right. It was World War II. The South won.
Q. Can you name one state of the United States that borders Mexico?
A. Canada.
My DW was hysterical. Now a naturalized citizen, she was originally (and still is) an Australian citizen. Over there, if you do not vote you can be fined. Over there you must have a picture ID. During the naturalization process here, she was required to know the answers to a 100 question (no multiple choice please) Civics test. A little more difficult than what was the name of the war between the states. For example; name the 13 original colonies. Haven't met one American citizen by birth, regardless of age, who can do that.
America47000: "The point being that ignorance may not have elected Barak Obama. But it didn't hurt. It just takes a certain kind of stupidity to vote for a liberal."
Your post would have been more convincing if it had not completely contradicted itself as well as your orignal assertion. You then settled on the already undisputed reality that there is always ignorance at play on both sides.
But then your "It just takes a certain kind of stupidity to vote for a liberal" was nothing more than a cheap shot. It may be your rather inane OPINION that voting for a 'liberal is 'stupid', but it has no basis in fact beyond the boundaries of your closed mind.
Finally, we are hardly "obsessed" with "joe the Plumber" or Sarah Palin", since they both were a national joke. It's just a lot easier pointing to those two as evidence of stupidity on the right than it is to take man-on-the-street polls.
And if you don't even get how those two really ARE a national joke, then I rest my case!
Hey, Joe the plumber was brought on by the Dems, so who's calling who stupid here? Then, as soon as McCain chose Palin, again it was the Dems and the liberal media that went for the jugular.
It was the media and the Dems that were the national joke, trying to find anything they could on these 2 people.
It's a 2 way street mikeH, and if you don't want to play, leave.
Oh yeah, and while i'm at it, mikeH writes " Finally, we are hardly "obsessed" with "joe the Plumber" or Sarah Palin", since they both were a national joke.
If your friends over at msdnc are NOT obsessed with Joe and Sarah, why are they still talking about them? MikeH, either your TV is on a 2 week time delay or............. oh it's just not worth it. Bottom line is that the man on the street poll of the people interviewed http://www.howobamagotelected.com/ says it all and there is no defense for such ignorance, but i'm sure you'll come up with something to argue the point.
SoCal: "Hey, Joe the plumber was brought on by the Dems,"
REALLY! Is John McCain a "Dem". Who chose to make this man a national icon by repeatedly referring to him in the last debate? Hint - It wasn't Obama!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SoCal: "Then, as soon as McCain chose Palin, it was the Dems and the liberal media that went for the jugular."
DAMN you're stupid! So you think the "liberal" media was supposed to just leave her alone and accept everything her campaign said about her at face value? Sorry jack, but the medai was doing their JOB, and if Palin had known anything about the world and national affairs there would have been no problem. I guess, for you, ignorance must be bliss!
Also, I suppose media should have just accepted Sam the plumber's assistant's web of lies about who he was, what his plans were, how much he made, how much the company he worked for made, and his assertion that he planned to purchase that company......at face value as well?
SoCal, if we ever have a media like that, you won't like it, because it will mean that we no longer have a free media.
The media that you love to hate is one of freedom's greatest protectors.
SoCal: "but i'm sure you'll come up with something to argue the point."
I already have you nitwit!......Review the third paragraph of the 9:53 post.
The day after the elevation of Mr. Obama, one of his supporters said now she wouldn't have to pay her house payment...her car payment....And it certainly is the dirty little secret that he won because in one particular voting bloc, race trumped everything.
Katie Couric resuscitated her 'career' with Gov. Palin. You think David Letterman would have her as a guest otherwise?
This country is fortunate that Obama is the President-elect. If he hadn't won we would still be counting the riot-dead and mopping up the destruction.
If the empowered Libs enact the "Fairness" doctrine, then we won't have a free media.
Why didn't the mainstream media do their job in properly analyzing the economic collapse. Obama's hands were all over the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mess. He took more campaign cash from them than anyone but Dodd. But you don't hear about that anywhere.
Why didn't the mainstream media take a closer look at asinine economic statements like "grow the economy from the bottom up," which is practically code word for nationalizing industry and unionizing the work force. Do they really agree that should be done?
When Obama tells Joe the Plumber it's good to "spread the wealth," do they properly analyze what he meant by that, as they should have? No. Most in the media spent their time trying to smear Joe for even existing. As if it weren't Obama who made the comment. Who cares to whom he made it? Obama didn't know Joe's background at the time.
That question to McCain about how many houses he owned was a pretty irrelevant question in the scheme of things. Was the person who asked that one attacked? No. Why? Because McCain was in a no win scenario, the media knew it, and they used it. What if McCain had answered straight up that his wife owned seven homes. They'd still attack him for it.
When McCain joked about rich being $5 million at the Saddleback forum, then Obama slammed him for it as if he were serious, did the media call him on it? Did they point out that Obama less than an hour earlier had made a similar joke about rich people having written a couple of books? Nope. Free ride.
When Chris Matthews says he gets a tingling feeling when Obama speaks, then says it's his job to help Obama's presidency succeed because we need it to work now, even though he spent a good part of the past 8 years trying to bring down Bush. Where was his sense of trying to make that work (if you believe it didn't)?
Free media, indeed.
My point about ignorance and Obama wasn't that only the ignorant elected Obama. Just that if you analyze the voting trends, you'll notice how the more educated you are, the more you start to swing toward the right. Until you get too much education, then you swing back. How the groups that supported Liberals the most were the highly stupid, and the over-educated. I don't believe that is a coincidence. What's the old saying, "the smarter you are, the dumber you are?" or how about "Too smart for your own good."
I don't think I made any statement about ignorance on both sides (although I will not rest my laurels on the unending brilliance of the right). I was just saying it was ignorant for the left to fall back on the "blame Bush" argument because an honest, point-by-point analysis will show that while Bush may have been lax on some things, his attempts to fix some things were blocked by Dems. And linking McCain to him was unfair, even if it was good politics.
Argueing with someone that has the brains of an ice cube (mikeH)just don't cut it.
McCain came to Joe's defense dumbass. The media chose to play detective on Joe and dig up anything they could on the guy. MikeH's consistant revelations against the man, trying to take a title away from him in regards to what he does for employment only shows that MikeH is one of those kind of people that won't accept the mans dreams of owning a plumbing business, working as a plumber and trying to reach ones goal of making good money down the road.
I guess it's alright for obama to spout how he had already been in 57 states, but you don't hear anything in your media about that, do you mikeH? Fair and balanced media..... yeah right.
Yes mikeH, keep on defending your future crack cocaine president. Didn't hear the media go after obama on his past drug use, but I can sure remember the media going after Bush on his drinking habits.
Again, the ignorance from the left keeps on showing their faces and you are no exception to their rule. Take the blinders off mikeH, you might see a bigger picture.
No mikeH, you are the one that is too stupid to look at the whole picture
B. Obama did crack cocaine
We The People must be insane
Barry's been toking
Cigarettes he's smoking
They picked him over John McCain?
It doesn't cut it, but we'll keep right on doing it. Right?
No offense meant to anybody in the above comment.
I don't know if this has been posted here, but this has to be one of the most "flattering" pics of Keith Olbermann I've seen...very sexy, I can see why a woman HALF his age is so attracted to him...teehee:
http://celebslam.celebuzz.com/?s=keith+olbermann
Funny to see what we start talking about with Olby takes a week off.
Now, the libs will say the MSNBC is a balanced news channel, except for Olby, Maddow and Matthews.
Well, as this week's ratings will bear out, the network is dead in the water without them:
http://tvbythenumbers.com/2008/11/20/cable-news-ratings-for-november-19-2008/8542#more-8542
A fully equipped Fox News Channel is killing them across the board. Check out the 11 p.m. Maddow rerun with the guest host ... It has fewer total viewers than O'Reilly pulled in the key 25-54 demo!
It's so painful to watch anyone who fills in for Olby and Maddow, trying to imitate them. The woman they had for Maddow is constantly stumbling over the script. And Shuster might as well just hold up the New York Times and let the camera pan over it, as dynamic as he is. Maybe MSNBC should just show a test pattern for a couple hours. They'd probably grab the same ratings. Libs like the pretty colors.
Not that Maddow and Olby aren't trite and annoying in their own rights, but they have it down to a science (as David Frum can attest). So scripted. So practiced. So not news. So MSNBC (or BSNBC, to go for the easy joke).
Although, I remember when Maddow would just fill in for Olby and basically do an Olby impression. Ah, those were the days ...
It's such a relief whenever Keith is off. It means there's no attack dog! FNC personalities, News Corp management, conservatives, Republicans, and liberals/Democrats that aren't in lockstep are free from being mocked and attacked via Rip 'n Read's blue blog sources. But Monday, and I assume he'll be back Monday, the attacks will resume. Some of them will probably be based on things that occurred this week.
This week O'Reilly has been hammering away at a potential Fairness Doctrine. Today he called for an "Honesty Doctrine." I'm sure Keith would love to read a Daily Kos script about that one.
The Keith Olbermann Story; The Movie.
Here's a great clip of how the story ends, set some time in the future:
http://tinyurl.com/6ecnme
I'm still laughing at the "castratos"comment. As if voting for the Transsexual One was more manly than voting for Hillary. And for a Democrat to lecture anyone on manliness is ludicrous since, with the exception of Jim Webb, the last man who had a pair left the Democrat party decades ago.
I don't know, Dan. That's a bit *too* far. A better ending would be an "Apprentice"-like ending. "Keith, you're fired." Then, "The Apprentice" fired music cue plays, Keith walks out of the boardroom, down an elevator, out on to the sidewalk, and into a waiting limo, never to be heard from again...at least not on TV.
Ok Mike, I'll admit mine is a bit harsh. Either way, Olby ends up in the Twilight Zone.
Will he be on next week? It's a short week and KO feels like a 2 weeker kind of man-child.
It would be funny to see him get fired though. I mean where else would he go? Who'd be his references? Michael Moore, John Cleese?
Or better yet his resume would be funny as hell. In fact, let's have a bit O'fun. Write down the description of your last job along with your salary....
" For 5 hours a week, minus time for commercials, it was my sole duty and public responsibilty to smear conservative America. I would persue this ultimate goal in many different ways. One way was to attack their news source, Fixed News *ding*, and thier diety Bill-O the Clown. To ensure constaint content that would entice my viewers I would conduct in using half-quotes, blue blog sources, and edited video's only to show the good stuff that would incriminate them. Or as I would've called it in my sports casting days, the biscut in the basket."
" I would sometimes also flex the power of my advance education by showing how intelligent and passionate I am by doing a Special Comment. The kids at the Kos love those, and they are my trademark. But I don't them every night, since it takes a good week or so to go through my pre-written Special Comments with a Thesaurus and replace a lot of words with much larger words to show just how intelligent I am. Totally ignoring the fact that the words sir and madame ussually get repeated in every Special Comment I make"
" My other duties included getting other employees of MSNBC fired, smearing Republicans, praising Obama, Sunday Night Footbal in America quips, and if it has a vagina AND it's a politician it's ASKING for it."
" As of my last day at MSNBC, my salary was 7.5 million a year. "
" Medical notes, I have no depth perception. And if the guy I didn't vote for but really liked is caught in a scandel I might need extended time off, the cure being wine and a bathtub."
Lafinman, he'll be back Mon but he'll also be with Martha Stewart on her morning show, along with triple-chocolate pumpkin pie and baked artichoke hearts. What's next? Going on Ellen since she thinks he's brilliant? Only if she has him dance with her. That would be worth watching.
Did anyone catch the Olbermann coments from Letterman and Katie Couric? Not very flattering.
http://tinyurl.com/5om5pa
My favorite parts:
more 'giant head phrasing' from Letterman and
"I promise you. I had no idea until you apparently had a little cow on the air with Keith Olbermann," she responded. "And then you did that creepy Big Brother thing by stealing our video."
Dave also complained that he was left to talk to Keith Olbermann, to which Couric responded, "I feel for you, Dave."
Awesome clip, ktt....Once again, another example showing what little respect Keith Olbermann receives from his "collegues."
Letterman is willing to make fun of "Wolf-boy," Palin, McCain, Dr. Phil, himself, and Olbermann...
"...and we got Keith Olbermann, with his giant head, in the wings...."
[...]
"....and we had NO GUEST.....WE HAD TO TALK TO KEITH OLBERMANN."
He, he, he....I doubt Olbermann lacks the sense of humor like the others targeted by Letterman, to laugh it off.
cee - KO's getting no respect in that phone conversation. Nothing like a bit of KO bashing to start off the day.
KO has been pretty harsh toward Katie since she got the CBS job that he bragged about being interviewed for. Of course he said it wouldn't be a good fit for him because he couldn't do what he wanted with it, code for they didn't want him. Plus Katie's EP is Rick Kaplan, former head of MSNBC. I bet he has some interesting stories about the Newshole to regale the folks at CBS news.
I wonder if Katy the gf calls him Giant Head along with Bear. Ahh . . . terms of endearment.
TIVO ALERT! I think David Shuster said Keith Olbermann is going to be on Martha Stewart this Monday...he actually said tomorrow, but probably meant Monday. I know Rachel Maddow just did Martha's show, and talked about how she is an hobbiest bartender and made Martha a drink. I think Shuster said, Keith would be baking a pie with Martha. Have the tivo's at the ready...
First, SNL skit, then The View, now Martha Stewart...I know Olby thinks this is cool publicity, but this really is "jump the shark" territory.
OMG---it's true: Keith Olbermann, triple-chocolate pumpkin pie:
Keith Olbermann and Thanksgiving Side DishesAre you looking for a delicious dessert to top off your meal this Thanksgiving? Learn how to make a mouthwatering triple-chocolate pumpkin pie sure to impress your guests when popular television host Keith Olbermann ("Countdown with Keith Olbermann") joins Martha in the kitchen.
http://www.marthastewart.com/martha
What's funny, is they use a picture of him that is nearly 2 years old (maybe 3!) and airbrushed beyond belief...teehee.
He's already done "Jeopardy" so maybe he'll do a cameo on "Days of our Lives"?
I'd like to seem him on "American Gladiators" lol Picture him in spandex.
In the same interview with Katie Couric, Dave goes after Sarah Palin. It was discussed on Thursday night's "On the Record": http://tinyurl.com/55jzwc
For those that watch Oralmann's Martha Stewart appearance on Monday, let us know how it goes. If there's he says some ideological/partisan things that get wild cheers and applause from the audience, let us know. If he spouts Olbermann Lies, let us know that, too.
"The (pie) is horrible! Horrible!" It's about love.
I saw that woman saying Obama will pay for her house. This is insane. The Obama movement is a cult!
