This is tonight's open thread for your comments and recapping of The Hour of Spin. The infamous, deplorable one has been busy over at his blog. A post appeared that actually criticized Krazy Keith's Olbsession with Mr Bill O'Reilly. So naturally Merkle had to respond, even if in an utterly incomprehensible fashion.
But wait, there's more! Perhaps to change the subject away from the offending column, Bathtub Boy whips up a post of his own, and stokes the fires with additional comments like this one--just as incomprehensible as ever (his basic point: I'm neutral so I won't vote, unless I decide that I will...don't try to make sense out of it, it's OlbyLogic).
So enjoy tonight's Hour of Spin, if you dare. Comments are open!
I'll do you one better. That DailyKos post that rips Olbermann, posted by dang236, was actually posted by me at this site in the Nov. 12 discussion comments page:
http://www.olbermannwatch.com/archives/2008/11/countdown_wedne_12.php#comments
Since I am not dang236, and I have no desire to open a DailyKos account, it means someone just copied and pasted my entire post as their own over there. I'm flattered. I really am.
And it seems it's dang236's only diary entry, made about an hour after I posted the original comments.
Nice to see the fringe libs so worked up about it, and not examaning the statements with the intellectual honesty I would hope. Now if someone would like to post my analysis of the black vote numbers and really send them off on a tangent, I would appreciate it.
The Kos post that was critical of Olbermann was quite well thought out and had me looking forward to the"utterly incomprehensible" response from the gas-bag, only to be dissapointed cuz the link is broken. Boo Hoo.
America4700, well done!
Link has been fixed. Sorry about that.
America47, you are proof that Olbermann Watch commenters DO make a difference. Congrats!
Man I thought that sounded familiar when I read that.
But yeah, Olby logic or humor for that matter is all incomprehensible.
#5 - A Clinton back to the White House. Oh joy! "The job is her's if she wants it", as KO quotes ABC News correspondent Jake Tapper. Wolfman dragged out. "Uninformed speculation" he says. Wolfman was then Great Thanksed.
"No more leading the charge for her vision of healthcare reform from the Senate floor, no more building alliances with other politicians by helping them funraise as she is still doing".
Jon Meacham from Newsweek then brought out. "Landmark in Obamaland", in reguards to how much trouble it would be if it was or wasn't offered. "No drama Obama". "Set up various obstacles for Obama throughout the campaign". "Avoided all traps". Meacham was then Great Thansked.
#4 - More transition talk, more Hillary talk. "Obama's tightly run ship has sprung not one but multiple leaks". Craig Crawford brought out. "Call in Joe the Plumber for this one", laughter..... then Jimmy Legs mentioned that "he doesn't have a license for this stuff either". "Has the Obama campaign sprung a leak?" KO brings up again? "Obama is looking for superstars on his cabinet.... a real eye-popping cabinet together". Crawford was many thanksed.
#3 - Possible job for McCain in the Obama Administration? "Oh boy, what job is he (Obama) gonna give him?" Bathtub Boy spits out. "Two words - Legacy repair" Chris Kofinis blurts out. He also goes on to say that it's McCain's way to repair his image from a nasty campaign that attacked Obama viciously.
Bushed - Blackwater Gate, cites an AP article over indictments the fed prosecutors drafted for 6 who shot and killed 17 civilians. Blackwater will claim immunity for its people, "no way to hold the company as a whole responsible". Bailout Gate involving "the masters of the Bush Association" and the FDIC, over a statement posted on their website about taking $24 billion from the bailout and use it to prevent 1.5 million homes from being foreclosed, an idea Paulson KO says "was rejecting that idea". Siegelman-Gate - New documents coming out now from Time reguarding the former Alabama gov. "Political corruption"!
KO, in reguards to the bailout - "Say it with me now - today we call it a bailout, tomorrow we'll call it the reason daddy went to jail".
WPITW.......
Worse - O'Reilly (surprise) about gay marriage.
KO - "Uh Bill, this debate over gay marriage, Prop 8 in CA, this was started by the religious right along with the support of enablers like you. And you all started this it quite a while before Obama was the front runner let alone the nominee of the president elect, and if it blows back on you, and it costs you any of your precious phony-baloney culture war issues or if it costs the Mormon Church its tax exempt status, you'll have no one to blame but yourself".
Worser - Rick Davis about Palin's interview with Katie Couric that he told Rich Lowry of the National Review. Davis said that Palin thought the interview would be easier then it was, and softer because Palin would be interviewed by a woman.
KO - "Seriously, so apart from all of you being wrong about that, you were also sexist, condescending, pandering, patronizing and trying to find your vp nominee a soft interview on a national broadcast TV network."
Worst - co-winners, Dick Scharff about a letter he wrote to the editor of the San Diego Union Tribune. KO then quoted a part of the letter:
"Veterans, active duty, retired military - alarm alarm! President elect Obama is proposing a National Security Force with allegiance (pay, benefits provided by the executive branch) to him. C'mon, some really bad guys have tried that in the past and we know where that went. Not while I draw a breath!"
KO then called Scharff paranoid about Obama "seeking to expand the Peace Corps and the USA Freedom Core", Olbermoron then said that "the oxygen is already not getting through, so threatening to hold your breath is not going to affect you or the rest of us". KO then went on to said that "The San Diego Union Tribune newspaper should have not printed it and should be correcting the fact that they did".
#1 - The Bush legacy. Pointless drivel.

It's interesting to note about the Worse nod (another O'Reilly attack): immediately after the part TP highlighted for Rip 'n Read, Mr. Bill had two guests:
http://billoreilly.com/show?action=viewTVShow&showID=2134#1
"Jasmyne Cannick, a black, lesbian, syndicated columnist disagreed with those who compared interracial marriage with gay marriage: 'The gay civil rights movement always wants to equate it to the [black] civil rights movement. They really don't understand that movement or the history behind it.' Wayne Besen, Executive Director of 'Truth Wins Out,' a gay rights organization, dismissed the explanation that the Bible was against gay marriage: 'I find it quite ironic that a book that says that slaves should obey their masters is now being used to keep gay and lesbian people down.' The Factor saw it as a pretty simple issue: 'Religious Americans have a right to their opinion and they have a right to express it and they have a right to vote it and they exercised that right. You lost in California. That was the will of the people; it's as simple as that.'"
But TP didn't say anything about *that* part. So, Merkle didn't even know it existed! More shoddy "journalism" from Edward R. Olbermann.
By the way, here's the full Talking Points Memo from Thursday night *in context*: http://tinyurl.com/6ezwwd
And the transcript: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,452007,00.html
I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I still can't get over that America47000's comments were lifted word-for-word and incorporated into a DailyKos diary.
You know how they say that if SNL parodies you, then you've made it? I think in the blogosphere, DailyKos using your shit counts as "making it". And of all the things to make it to the Kos, it was something supportive of Bill O'Reilly...
For Olby, there's no looking back
NBC's political hack
Made his filthy bed
From lies he's been fed
The "news show" where Keith just talks smack
Obamamann and Kofanis were so eager to bash McCain and the Republicans that they overlooked an obvious tactical strategy Obama could employ. If he can convince Republican senators to leave their seat and join the administration, in most cases the state governors would appoint a replacement. So Obama could focus on Republicans in states with Democrat governors, and if those Republicans are dumb enough to give up their seat, then they'd be replaced by Democrats ... bringing the Dems closer to their 60-seat majority without the need for elections. And McCain's state of Arizona is run by ... you guessed it ... a Democrat.

The unfettered stupidity of many on the left doesn't surprise me, but it never ceases to amaze me.
But to headline a report with the blatant distortion "O'Reilly: Gay Marriage ..." and then post the exact quote that refutes the statement takes a lot of gall.
O'Reilly didn't say gay marriage would lead to those other issues. He was listing a lot of issues that he believed certain Obama supporters would be inclined to support. The issues and their supporters might not have anything to do with each other, except for a support of Obama and a belief that his election emboldened them to pursue their preferred policy. Gay marriage was just the first example of it.
And we need the fairness doctrine to silence talk radio?!?
Give me a break.
Oh, and Keith ... the debate over gay marriage was started not by religious people, but by gays who asked for a "right" that had never before existed, been intended or even been conceived of by the founders. I'm not stating here whether they deserve such a right, but the people voted on it and they lost. So to say on one hand that one vote is BS, while at the same time trumpeting the election of Obama, is hypocritical.
In that case, we've got another Great Moment in Olbypocrisy.
I don't know where else to put this but I find these statements I just read incredible.........and I KNOW you will not hear this in the hr of spin where it is the Republicans fault if Detroit goes under:
The president of the United Auto Workers union said the dire financial troubles of the three U.S. auto makers is the result this year's spike in gasoline prices and the meltdown on Wall Street, not missteps by management or high labor costs.
"This industry is in a crisis situation not of its own making," Ron Gettelfinger said in an interview Saturday afternoon with The Wall Street Journal.
The union will not make concessions in order to seal a deal for governmental aid, Mr. Gettelfinger said
With all due respect to Mr. Gettelfinger, he is dead serious wrong. None of them have management that is in the late 20th Century, much less the 21st. Century. The Big 3 have no clue about how to do mixed model production where you produce to very short-term forecasts on the road to producing only to real orders. As a result they stuff the pipeline with inventory that nobody wants. Then when things go bad they always find someone or something to blame. All of this wastes cash and so they burn through it like the proverbial SHI_ through a goose. They are pretty much morons. But they come from the right eastern schools with their Harvard MBAs, etc. Just like the bankers and the other gnomes of Wall Street who are only slightly smarter.
From what I understand, the price of a typical GM car includes about $1500 in health care costs for the company's employees. By means of comparison, a Toyota car's price includes about $100 in employee health costs.
Unions are bad news for American prosperity. They've already destroyed our schools, and with Obama in charge there is no limit to how much they can bring down American ingenuity.
I have seen that healthcare data before and I do believe it. A lot of it is retiree healthcare. It is kind of like Social Security. A next generation is bearing the burden. But the problem is that benefit is endemic. Government employees get it. Congress gets it. So they want it too. Hard to blame them. If Nancy Pelosi can get healthcare for life why not me?
Having said that, GM and the rest of them are not productive on a big picture basis. They produce to annual forecasts, which are basically just huge guesses. They cannot produce multiple products, or multiple variations of the same product in a single plant. Their plants are basically dedicated to "platforms" and not products. So when the forecasts are wrong (which inevitably they will be) they have tons of the wrong product made and not enough of the stuff that sells. When combined with a catch up pace on technology to reduce fuel consumption they are dead meat. It is all what Toyota calls Muda (probably spelled that wrong) or waste. They could substantially reduce the unit cost of healtcare on each vehicle by productivity improvements alone.
GM spends in the neighborhood of 5 billion a year on healthcare alone, plus another 2 billion for prescription pills. The UAW are ruthless..... they get paid about $30 bucks an hour (And could be higher if all the benefits are included in) and they still bi*ch and strike.
Yes they do good. They used to have a deal also whereby if they were laid off they got paid whatever amount was the difference between unemployment comp. and 90% of their base. Don't know if it is still in the contract or not.
There is a great detailed study of the industry in the current weeks' issue of the Economist, which is one of the great periodicals in the galaxy. The future for volume in the industry is going to be in the so-called BRICs. Brazil, China, India and Russia. The thing is though that production will have to be there. Actually both Ford and GM are pretty well positioned for that purpose. The problem will be whether or not their managements can make it happen. The funny thing is that the Dems. will give them their $25Bn or more and they are just as likely as not to spend it over there as here. So much for that insanity. After they do it and the layoffs start anyway who will they blame?
Keith Olbermann In A Minute (funny clip) : http://tinyurl.com/56wshr
We already linked to that here, Dan, but thank you. Unfortunately, it got airplay on OlbyPlanet, too. It made Oddball.
Thanks Mike, I guess I missed that.
It's okay, Dan. And I meant it was linked to in two different recap threads, but not in this one. So, I might have confused you. But Oralmann finding it funny, too, defeats the purpose of it. We're laughing at you, Bathtub Boy, not with you.
Keith Olbermann on the Iraq surge....
"As Senator Biden has pointed out, the new troops might improve the ratio our forces, face relative to those living in Baghdad (friend and foe), from 200 to 1, to just 100 to 1."
[...]
"The former Labor Secretary, Robert Reich, says Senator McCain told him that the "surge" would help the "morale" of the troops already in Iraq.
"If Mr. McCain truly said that, and truly believes it, he has either forgotten completely his own experience in Vietnam... or he is unaware of the recent Military Times poll indicating only 38 percent of our active military want to see more troops sent... or Mr. McCain has departed from reality.
"Then there is the argument that to take any steps towards reducing troop numbers would show weakness to the enemy in Iraq, or to the terrorists around the world.
"This simplistic logic ignores the inescapable fact that we have indeed already showed weakness to the enemy, and to the terrorists.
"We have shown them that we will let our own people be killed, for no good reason."
[...]
"In point of fact even if the Civil War in Iraq somehow ended tomorrow, and the risk to Americans there ended with it, we would have already suffered a defeat -- not fatal, not world-changing, not, but for the lives lost, of enduring consequence.
"But this country has already lost in Iraq, sir. Your policy in Iraq has already had its crushing impact on our safety here. You have already fomented new terrorism and new terrorists. You have already stoked paranoia. You have already pitted Americans, one against the other.
"We... will have to live with it.
"We... will have to live with what -- of the fabric of our nation -- you have already 'sacrificed.'
"The only object still admissible in this debate, is the quickest and safest exit for our people there."

Ah, what a difference almost two years, the brave and heroic actions of American Men and Women (including George Bush), and the soon ascention of a democrat President-elect makes.....

Yeppers, there is an agreement for an orderly withdrawl of US Troops from a secure and ever more peaceful Iraq....The New York Times has on its current front page dancing Americans with Iraq security forces who, according to the left, would still be shooting at eachother today....
Well, I am amazed that Keith Olbermann was wrong. (sarcasm)
I am amazed that those that think like him, including, at that time, Senator SNOBamessiah, were also wrong. (sarcasm)
I am amazed that the members of the church of SNOBamessiah who so frantically called for Bush to be stopped over Iraq were also wrong. (sarcasm)
Note the reference to Vietnam in Olbermann's screed.....this is like Vietnam?
Nope. Why? Because Bush did not allow it to become like Vietnam.
Oh boy.....Now it is in the new President's hands. A President who promised all troops out within 16 months of him taking his oath of office....
It is now a three year agreement....will SNOBamessiah accelerate this process?
I wonder........
I suppose we still could lose in Iraq.
VERO POSSUMUS
But cee, according to this site's left wing nut olbyloon MikeHee, his hero Olbermann, and his messiah Obama, the surge would not help resolve the political troubles of Iraq. In fact, Obama said it would make the situation in Iraq WORSE! And his disciple, MikeHee, this site's resident olbyloon, agreed!
But, now that the surge is proving that it helped accomplish the goals it set out to, all of a sudden (after the election, of course!), there is silence from this site's olbyloon, the left wing nut MikeHee. However, that liberal rag the NY Times, acknowledes the success (I bet there have been lots of articles at Politico.com too!). And, there is agreeement from the right, because the WSJ, stated that Iraq is failing: just upwards, not downwards as the three stooges predicted:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122696745574835445.html
MikeHee won't be held accountable for his prediction against his own country's success, except by some here. Olbermann, won't be fired for his wrong prediction of American failure. And the MSM won't hold Obama to his wrong prediction either. On top of that, Obama was elected as president. What a wonderful country we live in eh MikeHee? Despite electing a guy who staked his foreign policy reputation on the failure of America, he shows he can be elected el presidente!!!!

Despite the fact that a guy who staked his foreign policy reputation on the failure of America, he shows he can still get elected el presidente!!!!!!
Excellent, (and very funny), insight to what was behind the revival in our country 2 weeks ago under the church of SNOBamessiah.....

VERO POSSUMUS!
Thanks flindycon for your post above and welcome to our neighborhood. I was starting to think that there was only a few of us left here to counter MikeH and his messiah and slobbermann. Now that the Govt. has bailed out GE and company, it looks like KO will be getting that pay hike he wanted. It's just a shame that KO has to be the worst journalist in the business. His Blatant LIES, rip and read tactics, left leaning garbage, non partisan guests......oh did I say LIES, yes MikeH, Slobbermann lies during every nightly show he is on. Slobbermann is a weak man who cannot go out on the streets without bodyguards to protect him. And just for MikeH in regards to just one of KO's lies, he lied when he said "KO - "Uh Bill, this debate over gay marriage, Prop 8 in CA, this was started by the religious right along with the support of enablers like you."
NO, NO, NO, it was not started by the above mentioned but started by the gays and lezbo's themselves. These people pushed their crap on us and we're just fighting back for what is right. Things were so much better when it was kept in the closet.
Your welcome SoCal. I do apologize however, for falling into the same trap most new posters do with my multiple posts.
By the way, you made a misstatement about MikeHee's hero Olberman. He is NOT a journalist, even though he pathetically tries to claim that he is. Real jounalists don't rip and read from internet sources without confirming their validity like MikeHee's hero does nightly, in addition to other sins against journalism that Olberman commits.
SoCal: "I was starting to think that there was only a few of us left here to counter MikeH and his Messiah and slobbermann."
It's kind of pathetic and somewhat revealing that you feel so threatened by lil ole me that four against one isn't good enough odds for you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SOCal: "Things were so much better when it was kept in the closet."
Better for WHO?......YOU?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SoCal: "He lied when he said......"
You stated he "lies 99.5% of the time", and one month later you FINALLY found something you could taught me about as something you call a "lie".....and how revealing it is that the subject matter was something as insignificant as Bill O'Reilly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
flindycon on Obama: Despite the fact that a guy staked his foreign policy future on the failure of America, he shows he can still get elected el presidents!!!!!"
And what "failure" would that be?.......Since I assume you talking about Iraq, tell me:
1) - How has so called "success" in Iraq helped America solve the problem of 50 million un-insured American's?
2) - How has it helped the budget deficit?
3) - How has it helped the economy?
4) - How has it enhanced or insured the freedom of America?
5) - How has it helped our military readiness to defend this country against ACTUAL threats?
6) - How has it helped us capture Bin Laden or defeat the REAL Al Qaeda?
7) - How has it helped to contain Iran?
8) - How has it helped the families of those 5000 Americans that have been killed?
9) - How has it helped the futures and families of those 30,000+ who have been seriously wounded?
10)- How has it helped the ideological divesions of the American People?
The answers to those questions are precisely the reason that Obama was elected "el presidente"!
MikeH, I am NOT threatened by you but am only trying to educate you to your unrelenting causes. As for 4 against 1, that's your problem not mine, don't forget that it's YOU that is on the other side of the fence and if you don't want to play ball with US, take your glove and bat and find another neighborhood to trash.
Next, "Things were so much better when it was kept in the closet."
Better for WHO?......YOU?
YES and everyone else that has had to put up with their social and imballanced ways of life. That is my opinion and I stand behind it 100%. You do not have any right to push their agenda onto myself or anyone that is against it.
Lastly, Bill O only brought up the subject, don't even go there saying that he's insignificant, he was just reporting on the issue, something that YOUR keith O, would never do or tell the truth about.
Well then SoCal, if you want to "educate" me, then try posting something intelligent and thought provoking.
And just so you understand SoCal, the above comment was aimed specifically at YOU, and NOT anyone else on this blog.
SOCal: "he was just reporting on the issue, something that YOUR keith O, would never do or tell the truth about."
I guess you'll give him credit for telling the truth just as soon as he starts calling the newly elected president a "commie".
MikeH, why don't YOU try posting something intelligent yourself instead of whining all of the time.
You can't fix STUPID
Tsk, Tsk, SoCal, you'll never look smart by parroting my own comments back to me....And likewise, you'll never convince anyone your not a whiner by calling someone else a whiner!
You make so much sense mikeH, I forgot who I was talking to.
